Lotions/ Creams -Trader Joe's - Coconut Body Butter
rated 5 of 5

Someone on one of the boards was raving about this body butter, and I just had to try it. Totally an HG for me! I'm too cheap to buy the Body Shop brand, and a lot of other brands have sketchy ingredients. This one is largely coconut oil, and it definitely smells like it. The texture is lovely and smoothes in well. I like to use it after shaving my legs.

Gels/Soaps -Shi Kai - Moisturizing Shower Gel
rated 5 of 5
Glitzee 1/12/2013 7:51:00 PM

This is one of my favorite shower gels on the market! My skin is super dry in the winter and sensitive year-round, and this shower gel is very gentle. The two scents I've tried (vanilla and pomegranate) are both pleasant and mild. I look for this at Whole Foods and buy a couple bottles when it goes on sale.

Styling Products -Unlisted Brand - Alagio Crazy Curl Curl Enhancer Balm
rated 5 of 5
Glitzee 12/1/2011 11:03:00 AM

This is my HG hair product for my wavy/curly/frizz-prone hair. It has the perfect amount of hold to keep my curls in check without crispiness or that oily/silicone look. I put it on damp hair and either diffuse or air-dry. I couldn't find it for a while, so I was left wandering in the wilderness of other hair care products. None compared. Saw it on the shelf at Publix (grocery store) the other day and I practically jumped up and down!

Lip Gloss -Revlon - Colorstay mineral lipglaze in overtime wine - 555
rated 5 of 5
Glitzee 11/1/2009 5:29:00 PM

I've now bought three colors of this gloss and it's one of my favorite drugstore items! I really like the texture-- it's thick, not too too shiny (i.e. not a Lipglass dupe) and with just the right amount of pigment. It's about halfway between a lipstick and a sheer gloss. The colors definitely last and are perfect with my skintone (NC20). If they go on sale, I'll buy even more!

Moisturizers -Aveeno - Ultra-Calming Night Cream
rated 4 of 5
Glitzee 12/16/2008 7:13:00 PM

I was looking for a cream that I could use over my Metrogel at night. I have sensitive, acne-prone rosacea skin so I need to be pretty careful about what I put on it. It feels very cooling when it goes on and dries to a matte finish. I didn't have any problem with stinging or burning, and the fragrance doesn't bother me. Whether it actually reduces redness or not, I don't know-- I use Rx for that.

Treatments (Eye) -Kiehls - Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado
rated 4 of 5
Glitzee 12/16/2008 7:06:00 PM

I've never been much for eye creams but when I started getting flakes under my eyes this winter I knew I had to start using one. I bought this after a rec from a Sephora SA-- yes, I know they don't sell Kiehl's at Sephora! -- and am delighted so far. It blends in very well and doesn't take long to sink in. It provides a nice base for my concealer. The texture is moisturizing but not greasy and the scent is very mild. A little goes a very long way so I don't mind shelling out for this.

Moisturizers -Desert Essence - Jojoba Oil - 100% pure
rated 5 of 5
Glitzee 12/16/2008 6:59:00 PM

I bought this after diagnosing myself as a DSNW from the Baumann book. (I'm probably an OSNW in the warmer months.) Wow, this stuff is unbelievably great! I use it to take off makeup and as a general facial cleanser. I apply with my fingers and massage all over my face, then remove with either a cotton pad (when removing m/u) or a washcloth. It takes everything off and is sooo gentle on my skin. Thanks to this stuff I am no longer peeling/flaking this winter. Can't believe I didn't try this stuff earlier! At some point I will probably transfer to a better bottle. But you can't beat the price at Trader Joe's.

Gels/Soaps -L'Occitane - 20% Shea Butter Soap
rated 5 of 5
Glitzee 7/15/2008 9:16:00 PM

I got a small bar of the Milk variety when I was staying at a lodge a few months back, and I just got around to trying it. I'm now wishing I had unwrapped it earlier-- the soap is that good! It leaves my sensitive/dry skin feeling clean but not parched. The "feel" of the soap is very nice, and the scent is mild. I like the lather too. Would definitely buy again.

Moisturizers -Aveeno - Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer SPF 30
rated 3 of 5
Glitzee 6/29/2008 12:35:00 PM

I've been using this moisturizer in the warmer months for a while now, but these days it's been irritating my skin and making it a bit oily, so I'm going to give it a rest. It does a good job of sinking into the skin, but it has a weird texture to it going on-- not a soft, comforting moisturizer feel. The SPF is fabulous though. I may come back to it, but this is far from HG material in my book.

Scrubs -Alba Botanica - Pineapple Enzyme Facial Scrub
rated 4 of 5
Glitzee 6/29/2008 12:28:00 PM

I got this scrub in a travel kit a while back and dug it out recently to get rid of some flakies from Retin-A usage. It really did the trick without overdrying or irritating my sensitive skin, and it smells terrific. It's definitely not a hardcore exfoliant, so if you are expecting microdermabrasion in a tube, this is not the scrub for you.

Moisturizers -The Body Shop - Seaweed mattifying moisture lotion SPF 15
rated 3 of 5
Glitzee 6/29/2008 12:24:00 PM

I think this product has been reformulated lately, as the name and packaging is different than similar listings on here. I bought this while looking for a good mattifying base for makeup for an upcoming photo session. Tried it out last night in Hotlanta with Studio Tech and loose powder on top. Though it was 90 degrees and humid, my makeup didn't move! (This never, ever happens.) So it gets raves from me. UPDATE: It turns out that this product triggers my rosacea. I won't be using it regularly-- maybe for special events.

Conditioner -Trader Joe's - Balanced Moisturizing Nourish Spa Conditioner
rated 5 of 5
Glitzee 11/18/2007 12:03:00 AM

Wow, I never thought that my HG conditioner would cost less than $3 per bottle! I have dry wavy/curly hair that needs serious babying from conditioner. This stuff, plus Nexxus Sleektress shampoo and Garnier Fructis spray gel (for curly hair), means I have an automatic good hair day. It's rich and creamy without weighing down or coating my hair too much. It doesn't have yucky ingredients and I can easily finger-comb with it in. Love this stuff!

Shampoo -Nexxus - sleektress
rated 5 of 5
Glitzee 11/11/2007 1:01:00 PM

I have wavy/curly hair that is on the dry side, and finding a shampoo that doesn't leave me a tangled mess has been a lifelong search! This is definitely my HG shampoo-- it leaves my hair smooth and soft, ready to be conditioned. It's a bit on the pricey side if you are cheap like me, but it's definitely more reasonable than my other fave, Aveda Sap Moss.

Lotions/ Creams -Burt's Bees - Shea Butter Hand Repair Creme
rated 4 of 5
Glitzee 10/18/2007 3:13:00 PM

In the fall and winter my hands get extremely dry and I frequently get red, cracked areas on my knuckles . Ouch! That and a small patch of eczema on my finger prompted me to look for a richer cream than I had been using (Gardener's Hand Repair, which stings the sore spots). I love the light herbal smell-- not perfumey at all-- and it really sinks into my dry patches. Not too oily but you can feel it working. My skin is definitely improving, even after a couple of days. Note: a little goes a long way! Also, as you see from reviews here, not everyone is fond of the scent-- it's very lavender to me but I love herbal scents.

Gels/Soaps -EO - Lemon Verbena Liquid Hand Soap
rated 4 of 5
Glitzee 2/25/2006 9:17:00 PM

There's a very refreshing, lemony-herbal scent to this hand soap. I don't like antibacterial soaps and this doesn't have any. It's not too drying, and the scent makes it perfect for kitchen use. Nice and simple.
