Lip Treatments -Dr. Bronner's - Magic All-One! Organic Lip Balm - Naked
rated 5 of 5

I absolutely LOVE this lip balm. I've tried so many products out there, expensive and cheap, and this is the best. I am someone who hates lip balm to be scented.. and I don't just mean scented on purpose, but even if there is a natural type of smell, I can't use it. For example, I found the Lavera Sensitiv smelled like burnt carrots or something. At first, I did detect a scent with this one... probably the hemp oil in the product. However, I soon got used to it and don't even notice it anymore. My previous HG was The Green Beaver's Winter Lip Balm, but I was finding it was going bad fairly quickly and having a kind of rancid oily smell. I just finished my first Dr. Bronner's and bought two more tubes while I was at the store. Got them for $3.99 CAD at The Big Carrot in Toronto. This is definitely my HG lip balm and will keep using it for years to come!

Fragrances -Frederic Malle - Une Rose
rated 4 of 5
Gillian166 10/23/2010 4:34:00 PM

I haven't actually tried this perfume yet, but was hesitant to try it because a previous poster mentioned that the perfume uses castoreum absolute (a product from beavers.) I emailed Frederic Malle themselves to ask if it is authentic castoreum that is used, and they replied with the following: "The castoreum we use in "Une Rose" is not taken from animals since it is now forbidden by the law. Our perfumers use the best qualities of naturals with castoreum facets (such as ambrette seeds) and synthetics which reproduce the smell of the original molecule. Best regards, Etienne" This should clear it up for people who did not want to try it because it contained animal products. I now feel comfortable to try it, and will because it sounds amazing!

Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Eminence Organic Skin Care - Strawberry Rhubarb HA Serum
rated 5 of 5
Gillian166 10/21/2010 8:07:00 PM

Firstly, I just want to say that I am a HUGE Eminence fan. I'm using all Eminence products and I love it!! I just ordered this product and have been using it for about a week. It's unbelievable!! Within a minute of putting it on, my skin feels tighter -- not drier in anyway, but just super toned and firmed. It feels moisturized but not at all greasy. Just glowing. I'm someone who is very sensitive to smells of certain products and was a little worried about it having too fruity of a smell. In the bottle itself, it has a slight medicinal smell (almost like kid's cough medicine) but the minute it's on your skin it smells like ripe strawberries. I've been putting it on twice a day just so I can have that smell! I've had no issues with breakouts, stinging or anything from this product. I've tried two other Eminence serums before but this is definitely the best for me. The Couperose was okay - had a minty smell, which I don't really like, and I just found it didn't really do anything for me. I also tried the Grape Antioxidant serum and found it stung my face a little bit, so I returned it. I'll definitely re-purchase the Strawberry Rhubarb serum when I run out. Love it!!!!

Concealers -Chanel - Pro Lumiere Correcteur Professional Finish Concealer ] [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5
Gillian166 9/7/2010 6:46:00 PM

I experienced the same problem as an earlier poster. I live in Canada and was told that the Pro Lumiere isn't available here and that only the Eclat Lumiere is available in Canada. My parents just went on a trip to Chicago and I asked my mom to pick me up one of the Pro Lumiere pens. She went to three different stores and at Saks Fifth Avenue the man at the Chanel counter told her that they have consolidated the two pens, because different states and parts of the world have been using different names. He also said the colour names have been different in different places. Now, Pro Lumiere is being called Eclat Lumiere. My mom doubted him and he went on and on that he's worked at Chanel for 20 years and he definitely knows the products inside and out. So she paid the $42 US and brought one home last night. The formula doesn't seem to cover dark circles very well, and I somehow am doubting if it's true what they told her. I'm trying to contact Chanel to ask them to explain to me if they ARE or ARE NOT the same product. The phone number on their website (800) 550-0005 doesn't seem to work from Canada. *sigh* Anyone else know anything about the two products being combined? ***UPDATE** I emailed Chanel and got the following response: Thank you for your e-mail. ECLAT LUMIERE Correcteur is the re-named version of PRO LUMIERE Correcteur Concealer. To find a listing of all retail locations in your area, please visit our store locator on www.chanel.com. Thank you for your interest in CHANEL. Best Regards, Matthew Consumer Relations CHANEL, Inc.

Gels/Soaps -LUSH - Turkish Delight Smoothie
rated 4 of 5
Gillian166 5/18/2010 11:17:00 PM

I just bought this the other day because I loooove the smell of rose and this one smells really great. The lady at the store said to rub it on before showering and then wash it off in the shower. It's supposed to leave your skin moisturized. I used it and loved the smell. To be honest, I didn't really find my skin was any more moisturized than usual, but it certainly didn't dry out my skin. I did notice my skin seemed a little more "calm" -- I have keratosis pilaris and have issuse with redness on my forearms. The rose smell DOES linger which is great and the amount they give you in the tub will last a long time. Apparently, it's been flying off the shelves and I got the last one at the location I went to. Worth a shot, love the smell, but definitely didn't work any major miracles for me. The price is a little steep at $30 Canadian, but if you have the cash to spare, give it a try.

Fragrances -Perry Ellis - Perry Ellis (New 2009)
rated 4 of 5
Gillian166 5/14/2010 7:23:00 PM

I received a free sample of this at a department store and tried my hardest to find it cheaper elsewhere -- at the time, the only places I could find it were The Bay (Canadian department store) and on Macy's website. Now it appears to be much easier to find. Needless to say, I paid $65 Canadian (I never buy perfumes full price normally). Anyways, I really love this scent. I'm super picky with perfumes and the only other two I can stand to wear besides this one are The Body Shop Cassis Rose and Kenzo Flower. Perry Ellis 2009 smells like white flowers and peach, to me. Very original scent, like nothing else I've ever smelled. Love it! The bottle is really beautiful and classy and I even got a free freshwater pearl necklace when I bought it! My only complaint is that the pump sprays a lot of perfume out at a time, and because it's Eau de Parfum, it's very strong. I wish you were able to spray a bit less out at a time, but the spring on the spray goes down all the way each time. Anyways, great perfume, fresh clean scent.. not cloying at all. Love it!

Mascara -Cover Girl - Lash Blast
rated 5 of 5
Gillian166 5/14/2010 7:18:00 PM

This is my HG of mascaras! I used to be a loyal fan of Maybelline Volum' Express, but this one prevents clumps much better! The brush is nice and fat and really enhances every lash. I'm on my 6 or 7th tube of it and will continue to buy it!!!

Polishes -Sally Hansen - Hard as Wraps -- Sheer Pink Gloss
rated 5 of 5
Gillian166 8/27/2008 10:13:00 PM

Just tried this and LOVE it! It has that sheer, translucent pink colour that everyone who gets manicures seems to have! Went on SO SO SO smoothly, and dried very fast.... I'm the type of person who will always smudge my nail polish no matter what, and it didn't happen with this one. Usually these light pink colours go on really streaky for me, but this one was foolproof... it would start off a little streaky and then blend together to perfection!! For the price and the result, definitely a great buy.

Top/Base Coats -Sally Hansen - Hard as Wraps - Acrylic Gel
rated 5 of 5
Gillian166 8/27/2008 10:08:00 PM

Bought this last week and finally got around to trying it, and so far, I love it! I have very strong nails already, but I'm what you'd call a "picker" and I pick my cuticles with my nails, so my nails kind of split when they get to a certain length. This product has added an extra layer which helps stop the splitting. Went on easily, dried shiny, smooth and quickly! I bought it in a starter kit with the sheer pink gloss and it's so beautiful. I think I paid $6.99 for the kit so definitely worth it.

Lotions/ Creams -Neutrogena - Norwegian Formula Hand Cream
rated 5 of 5
Gillian166 8/27/2008 10:04:00 PM

My HG of handcreams! I'm really picky with scents and won't wear anything scented (except perfume) so I always buy the unscented version of this one. It's super moisturizing, non-greasy and really absorbs fast. You can also wear it on your lips in the winter if they get chapped. A little really DOES go a long way and I probably buy about 2 of these a year (i use it daily though, not just in winter etc.) Definitely worth checking out.

Mascara -Maybelline - Volum' Express The Colossal
rated 2 of 5
Gillian166 8/1/2008 10:55:00 PM

I bought this mascara because I love the Volum Express Turbo Boost and thought - if this has an even bigger brush, it will work even better!! Unfortunately I was wrong. The actual product itself DID make my lashes look good. But it was the smell that made it unusable. I usually like the smell of mascara - that clean almost soily smell - but this smelled like it almost had perfume added to it! I used it once and could still smell it hours later! I thought I must be imagining it, so I didn't use it for a few days, and then tried it again. Sure enough, I could STILL smell it after about 1.5 hours. I called Maybelline and told them and they are sending me a coupon for any mascara of my choice. I'm disappointed, and won't be buying this again.
