Lotions/ Creams -Alba Botanica - Un-petroleum Multi-Purpose Jelly

It's an inexpensive, pure and natural thick moisturizer. I use it at night on my lips and (very sparingly) on any dry patches of skin and I wake up with moisturized soft lips and skin. I would definitely recommend this product as an alternative to Vaseline.

Blush -Maybelline - Dream Bouncy Blush
rated 3 of 5
GLou 1/20/2012 3:50:00 PM

Like the reviewer below, I bought this after seeing Emily's vlog on Beauty Broadcast (plus it was on sale). I purchased "05 Fresh Pink" and "20 Peach Satin". Both colors appear pigmented in the package, but not so much when it is applied to the cheeks. It's easy to apply. And the strange bounciness gel/cream like texture makes it sorta fun. Nevertheless, I think I would stick with my Maybelline's Dream Mousse Blush as my drugstore cream blush. I just hope Maybelline doesn't plan to replace this product and discontinue their Dream Mousse Blush. If you plan to try it, buy it on sale since it's about $7.99 at retail price.

Cleansers -Burt's Bees - Facial Cleansing Towelettes
rated 3 of 5

Like the 2 reviewers below, I found the scent of these wipes a bit overpowering. The packaging (aka snap on lid) is great and it keeps the wipes moist. I tend to use wipes to remove my makeup before using my regular facial cleanser (even though it's not necessary with these wipes). These wipes left my skin feeling clean and most importantly NOT STICKY! However, I felt a slight tingly feeling every time I use it. As a result, I would not re-purchase these wipes again.

Lips -Joe Fresh Style - Tinted Lip Balm
rated 3 of 5
GLou 4/28/2011 1:14:00 PM

Not sure what the "hype" about this product is coming from, but it's just like any other tinted lip balm. After reading the initial reviews, I bought "Honey" from my local Loblaws for $8.00 CND. The packaging is cute, but the product itself is average. It smells nice, but it doesn't seem to moisturize my lips as much as I want to during the winter/spring season. I actually have to put my regular lip balm before I apply this product so it doesn't appear dry on my lips. Then again, everyone's lips are different. Would I buy this again? Most likely not unless it's on sale since the color pay off isn't bad and it last as long as any other tinted lip balm. And with $8.00, you can definitely find a better tinted lip balm than this one.

Lotions/ Creams -St. Ives - Oatmeal and Shea butter
rated 5 of 5
GLou 3/21/2011 1:30:00 PM

I'm currently on my 3rd bottle of this lotion so it's obvious that I love it. It's affordable and easily found in drugstores and grocery stores. It's smells great and it moisturizes (note: I only apply it after I shower). Plus it's paraben free. I guess it varies from person to person, but unlike the reviewer below I dislike the Body Shop Body Butter (which I find overpriced and greasy and none of the scents appeals to me). Bottom line, try it and see for yourself. Worse case scenario...You'll lose $3-5.

Misc Beauty Tools -Olay - Professional Pro-X Advanced Cleansing System
rated 5 of 5
GLou 3/14/2011 3:25:00 PM

After visiting 3-4 different Shopper's Drug Mart, I managed to get my hands on one (on sale for under $30.00 CND). I've been using it for a week (twice a day) and I am loving it. It cleans, it exfoliates, it has two settings (high and low) and it's more affordable than the Clarisonic. My skin is feels smoother and softer and some of my blemishes are fading away. As one of the reviewers mentioned, it was a little difficult to remove the lid to insert the batteries. I'm also not too excited about the cleanser that came with the cleaning system. My suggestion is to use your regular cleanser/exfoliator since your skin might have a negative reaction to a new product. For references, I use St. Ives - Elements Microdermabrasion (which is similar to Philosophy's Microdelivery Micro Massage Exfoliating Wash, but more affordable and paraben-free). I like this product so much I even bought one for my sister. So I will definately re-purchase (if I ever need to).

Treatments (Eye) -100 Percent Pure - Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream
rated 4 of 5
GLou 3/8/2011 11:25:00 AM

I've been using this eye cream for over 6 months and I have not noticed any major/dramatic difference with my dark circles. It's a nice moisturizer and as the reviewer below said..."It smells divine". Although I prefer pump dispensers, I found that the pump squirts too much product. Towards the end, the pump actually stopped working and I had to uncap the bottle to use up the rest of the product (which I found extremely annoying). I would re-purchase this product if it was on sale (or more readily available in Canada). Otherwise I'm pretty sure there are better eye creams out there. Note: I purchased this product online for $19.99 USD (not including shipping or taxes) through Bath and Body Works . It is no longer available through BBW.

Lotions/ Creams -Nivea - Nivea Soft Moisturizing Creme
rated 5 of 5
GLou 1/10/2011 11:56:00 AM

I decided to purchase a traveller size tube of Nivea Soft after I read all the comments below. I was on vacation and due to the TSA regulations I was only able to bring my basic face products (in traveller size since I do not like check-in bags during the holiday season). I'm used to cold winters, but my skin did not like the dry and cold weather of Colorado. Patches of my face became extremely dry, red, and irritated. I applied Nivea Soft at the night (since it is a little thick) and my face "cleared" up in a day or so (with no breakouts). It does what it says, it's affordable, and it's travel-friendly. I will definately re-purchase again.

Scrubs -St. Ives - Elements Microdermabrasion
rated 5 of 5
GLou 12/23/2010 12:24:00 PM

After finishing my bottle of Philosophy's Microdelivery Micro Massage Exfoliating Wash, I decided to find a drug store dupe. And I have to agree with some of the previous reviews that St.Ives has managed create an almost exact dupe (minus the high price). It's low price, it works, it doesn't cause any break outs, and it doesn't smell bad. I will definiately re-purchase this.

Treatments -Clean & Clear - Persagel 5% Benzoyl Peroxide
rated 5 of 5
GLou 12/15/2010 2:40:00 PM

I purchased this at Winners (a Canadian version of TJ Maxx) and I'm glad I did. It appears to work for me. Yes, it can dry out your skin. But the trick is to put a small amount (rather than lathering it on). I use a Q-tip over the affected area, then let it absorb into my skin for about 3-5 minutes before I put my moisturizer on. I will definately re-purchase it again.

Treatments -Olay - Regenerist Daily Regenerating Serum - Fragrance Free
rated 5 of 5
GLou 11/3/2010 1:53:00 PM

I purchased this after finishing my bottle of Philosophy's "When Hope is Not Enough" serum. I prefer Olay's pump over Philosophy's applicator/packaging. I also like the fact that this product is fragrance-free and it work just as well as Philosophy's serum for a fraction of the price. I would definately re-purchase it again when it's on sale ofcourse ;o)

Makeup Brushes -E.L.F. - Daily Brush Cleaner
rated 5 of 5
GLou 9/17/2010 4:01:00 PM

I bought this from Winners (Canada's equivalent of TJ Maxx) and I really like it. You just spray and swipe away on a paper towel. It dries fast and it cleans/disinfects your brush. If you're sensitive to perfume, then you might not like this product since it does have hint of it. As noted by other reviewers, the bottle does leak (even if it's purchased in a store). It's too bad we don't have Target in Canada because I'm not entirely sure what I will do when I run out of this stuff. Hehehe... As always, you should supplement this a weekly "deep cleansing" of brushes. Remember nothing is worse than using a brush filled with dirt and bacteria and spreading it all over your face.

Moisturizers -Philosophy - Hope in a Jar SPF 20
rated 1 of 5
GLou 9/7/2010 5:04:00 PM

This jar came with my Philosophy mini "Advanced Makeup Optional" kit. All the other products were great, but I was extremely disappointed with my "Hope in a Jar SPF 20". It's extremely greasy so I stopped using it (since I'm afraid I might break out). After 2-3 weeks, I re-opened the jar and yeah...The product looks like oily cottage cheese. Has anyone experience this problem?
