Fragrances -Molinard - Nirmala

I was first introduced to this by my aunt a few years ago, who had sent the solid version to me from the Molinard in Grasse. I loved it and wore it everyday, even if I was just staying home. It was the first 'real' perfume I ever owned that didn't give me a headache or trigger an allergic reaction, and it was difficult to find it anywhere for an affordable price for years. At one point I saw it in a store in the city, but I wasn't about to spend $200 on a bottle of perfume no matter how much I liked it. I recently found the EDT online, and in spite of some of the bad reviews it received I decided to take a chance and buy it. Nirmala had been my signature scent and I missed wearing it every day. At first I was extremely disappointed, it was incredibly strong and right after putting it on I wanted to wash it off. The top note(s) are strange, I think one of them mixed with the alcohol in the EDT makes it smell vaguely like sweat. This goes away after about 20 minutes, and all that's left behind is the Nirmala I knew years ago. Once it mellows out that wonderful, slightly sweet, not-too-strong vanilla base comes through without even a hint of the initial weird sweaty smell left behind. For that reason I put this on at least an hour before leaving the house, otherwise it's way too strong. The solid didn't have this problem, so I'm guessing this is because of the reformulation, or it could be from the alcohol that's present in the EDT. I'll keep buying this and wearing it forever, because I now know those wonderful base scents will come through. If you decide to buy it, make sure you give it a chance and wear it for at least half an hour. It'll transform into something beautiful and incredibly unique.

Moisturizers -Burt's Bees - sensitive daily moisturizing cream

I've tried many moisturizers in the past year or two. At least fifteen, some with disastrous results. Out of them all only two haven't made me break out, and this is one of them. The other is only wearable at night, and I really needed something gentle that was suitable for every day wear. My favorite thing about this product is how quickly it sinks into my skin. For the first time, I can wear moisturizer under makeup without having to worry that my face will be an oily mess in an hour. It's also very soothing and has no fragrance, which is important for me. I've had reactions to things I never expected, like LRP Toleriane Ultra. I also recently had a bad reaction to an acne treatment, and this was the only thing that helped calm my skin down.

BB Cream -BRTC - Jasmine Water BB Cream SPF 30 PA++
rated 4 of 5
EveAmaranthe 7/1/2012 9:30:00 PM

This is easily one of my favorite BB creams. It's also one of the few that matches my skin tone well without the white cast some other creams have. Most of the others I've tried made me look very pale, but this one is a perfect match for me - for reference, I'm NC15. It also lasts for hours even in humid weather, and controls shine better than most of the other creams I've tried. The only thing I'd change is the amount of product in the tube. When I opened it for the first time it felt like it was only half full. It's also more expensive, but I feel it's worth paying a little extra for a great color match and a formula that works for my skin type.

I've been using this for about a month, and so far I really like it. It definitely helps reduce fine lines and puffiness, I just wish it was in a more hygienic container.

Moisturizers -La Roche Posay - Toleriane Ultra

I didn't expect this to cause any breakouts, but it did. After dealing with a really bad bout of acne from another moisturizer and finally getting my skin under control again, I decided to look for something made specifically for sensitive skin. I'm really disappointed that this just made the problem worse, and within two days I was dealing with another really terrible bout of cystic acne. It seems squalane is the culprit for a lot of people that have tried this line, and I'm guessing this is the reason I my skin reacted to it too. Aside from that, no matter how little of it I used my skin would be incredibly greasy within an hour.

Terrible. Made my hair look nice, but also made my skin break out worse than it ever has before.

Conditioner -Organix - Moroccan Argan Oil

I tried a sample of this and the shampoo with good results and decided to buy the full size. What a mistake! It left my hair soft and frizz-free, but after about a week I was experiencing severe, cystic breakouts that were very painful and wouldn't go away no matter what I did. I've never had this kind of issue with my skin and thought my new foundation was the cause at first, but once I stopped using this my skin cleared up and went back to normal. I was so disappointed. The hair serum hasn't had the same effect..yet.

Self Tanners -Jergens - Natural Glow Revitalizing
rated 5 of 5

The results after using this product for only three days were great, it gave my skin a hint of color that looked very natural. It also evened out my skin tone and hid the streaks that resulted from using the nightmare that is L'oreal Sublime Bronze, which turned me orange overnight. Edit: Ugh, what a pain in the ass this stuff is. The result after three days of use is a nice, natural glow.. however this color is difficult to maintain if you want to shave your legs. It comes off fairly easily and the longer you use it the darker you get, which means any color that comes off is going to be very, very noticable.

Eye Shadow -Urban Decay - Naked Palette
rated 4 of 5
EveAmaranthe 3/19/2011 9:26:00 PM

The colors are gorgeous and the quality is very good, though I wish this palette wasn't so expensive. I really dislike the brush that comes with it, the bristles are very stiff. It feels more like a concealer brush than an eyeshadow brush, and doesn't deposit much color regardless of how much is on it. A $2 brush from Target does a better job, for that reason I gave this a 4 instead of a perfect 5.

Polishes -Sephora - Sephora by OPI Iris I Was Thinner
rated 5 of 5
EveAmaranthe 3/9/2011 3:27:00 AM

When my favorite lavender polish was discontinued, I looked everywhere for a replacement. I was so glad to find this one, and although $9 is more than I'm usually willing to pay for one bottle of nail polish, I felt the color was unique enough to be worth it. The quality is what you'd expect for the price, as well as what you'd expect from OPI. It wears well and doesn't even need a top coat, though I usually need to apply three coats for complete opacity.

Lotions/ Creams -Aveeno - Stress Relief Moisturizing Lotion
rated 4 of 5
EveAmaranthe 3/9/2011 3:16:00 AM

I love the smell of this lotion, it's definitely a relaxing scent. It's supposed to smell like lavender and chamomile but oddly enough, it reminds me a lot of cedar, just more floral. I took one point off because it doesn't absorb into the skin as quickly as other lotions, and putting too much on at once results in a greasy mess.

Styling Products -John Frieda - Frizz-Ease Weather Works Weather-proofing Style Sealant Creme
rated 4 of 5
EveAmaranthe 3/9/2011 2:56:00 AM

This is a must have in the spring and summer, otherwise my hair is a frizzy mess. It really does defy any humidity, as long as you use enough of it. This is one of the few styling products I've used that doesn't make my hair feel crunchy if I use too much. The only con I can think of is the residue left on your hands after using it, but that's easily washed off and once dry, this leaves my hair feeling soft and smooth.
