Shampoo -John Frieda - Brilliant Brunette Shine Release Volumizing Shampoo

I was very disappointed with this product. I have a very normal scalp and normal hair and this dried my hair out badly! Shampoos never dry my hair out. A waste of money.

Liquid -Cover Girl - Clean Makeup Oil Control
rated 4 of 5

This is my new summer foundation---you cannot beat the price and quality! It's light but provides a decent amount of coverage without being heavy. I wear Ivory and it's a good match for me (Stila B, MAC NC-20). Most importantly, it ****does not break me out**** I break out very easily! Others complain that CG foundations can be on the pink side, but give these a try! Everyone is coached to believe they have yellow undertones, and while that may be true, many people do have *some* pink in their skin (like me). Give this foundation a try! It is so worth it!

Toners -Paula's Choice - Final Touch Toner for Oily/Combo Skin [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
Emily 4/15/2003 1:31:00 AM

This is the best toner on earth, bar none. It's so gentle--it's virtually water on the skin--and yet it removes the last traces of makeup. I need this b/c I often use Cetaphil, which doesn't remove makeup well. Some toners (even alcohol free) make my oily/combo skin feel weird and red...but because this one is free of colorants and dyes and fillers, it makes my skin feel so fresh. I cannot say enough good things about it. Paula's Choice is such a great line.

Treatments -Darphin - Purifying Balm

When my normally oily skin was freaking out and had horrible dry patches, an SA recommended this to me and gave me a sample. He told me to apply it to the dry areas at bedtime. I was hesitant to try it, b/c it has the consistency of vaseline, and my skin is REALLY acne prone. To my delight, this stuff is AMAZING. When i put it on at night, the next morning the dryness is GONE! the skin is smooth! I use this simply for the moisturizing capabilities, not for "skin brightening". If you can get a sample of this, try it out. It is one of the most "miracle work" products I've ever tried!

Liquid -Lancome - Photogenic [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
Emily 1/15/2003 10:58:00 PM

After tinkering with other foundations, I always come back to Photogenic. I think it's my holy grail!!! It's lightweight, but it gives light to medium coverage...and it's not greasy and it won't clog pores! Trust me on this...I have very sensitive and acne-prone skin that will break out at the slightest thing, and this foundation does NOT break me out. Like I said, it doesn't go on like a mask, yet it still covers. Plus a bottle lasts me a loooooooong time. I love it!

Concealers -Paula Dorf - Magic Stick
rated 4 of 5

I really like this concealer under my eyes! It is lipstick form, and I painted it on under my eyes, then blended with a concealer brush, then applied powder over it! Usually concealers can't do anything on my dark circles, but this cuts most of the darkness out. I definitely recommend it...plus, #1 is great for really pale skin! The price isn't too bad either, compared to other stuff at Sephora.

Eye Makeup Remover -Clarins - Instant Eye Make-up Remover
rated 5 of 5
Emily 12/14/2002 3:50:00 PM

I received some sample bottles of this from lovely MUAer Deni, who is a counter mgr for Clarins. I really like it! It truly does take off eye makeup instantaneously...or, there is no pulling and tugging involved. I sweep it across my lids and then once again under my eyes and they're clean. It does remove heavy eye makeup well...the first time I used it was after a Dior MA applied LOTS of eye makeup on me. I would definitely recommend this. Since I use Cetaphil in the winter, this is great for getting the eye makeup off that Cetaphil will not! A *touch* greasy, but that doesn't bother me b/c I just use it on the eyes, and follow up with washing my face, so all remnants are gone!

Moisturizers -DDF - Ultra Lite Oil-Free Moisturizing Dew
rated 4 of 5
Emily 12/3/2002 12:36:00 AM

I finally took the plunge and ordered the moisturizer everyone is raving about. I should say that I'm VERY picky about trying new products, because my skin is sensitive and acne prone. First, I want to say kudos to DDF for creating a moisturizer that simply MOISTURIZES and doesn't try to make your coffee too! It is a basic and lightweight, fragrance-oil-and dye-free...which is hard to come by. A little goes a long way! I was pleased that one squirt can cover my entire face. It dries to a matte finish quickly. My only complaint is that the bottle I got seems to be clogged with air, and it takes several pumps to get one squirt out sometimes. Overall, rave from me!

Liquid -Jane - Oil Free foundation
rated 4 of 5
Emily 11/6/2002 1:34:00 AM

I think this is one of the best oil free foundations, low end. It provides nice coverage without being too heavy. The price is amazing! I also love Stay Calm foundation for days when I don't need as much coverage. Jane, as a line, is just the best drugstore line in my opinion. The eye shadows are my favorite low end, the lipsticks are nice, and the foundations get thumbs up too. :)

Sunscreen -Clinique - Super City Block SPF 25
rated 5 of 5
Emily 10/27/2002 9:18:00 PM

This is one of those products where, I'll use it for a while, wonder if there's anything better...and then ALWAYS return to it!!! I have decided this is the best sunscreen I've ever used. It doesn't break me out, it's gentle, and is has enough of a moisturizing quality that it isn't TOO DRY (sometimes I get dry patches). It it super under makeup...plus, it's slightly tinted to sort of help even out skintone. I highly recommend it!

Concealers -L'Oreal - AirWear ] [DISCONTINUED]
rated 3 of 5
Emily 10/26/2002 1:21:00 AM

I loved the color of this, the applicator, and the consistency of this product! It really is long wearing and goes on so smoothly! Unfortunately, it broke me out so I cannot use it anymore. But I recommend that other MUAers try it out, if you want a long wearing concealer with smooth application!

Liquid -Revlon - ColorStay Makeup
rated 4 of 5
Emily 10/24/2002 10:54:00 PM

I really like this foundation--it is one of the best out there for oily skin that is prone to breakouts b/c it really does have GREAT coverage. I don't need as much coverage these days, but I have always had luck with this foundation. I really like it! Wish they would quit hiking up the price...it IS drugstore after all ;)

Moisturizers -Olay - Olay Complete - Fragrance Free
rated 3 of 5
Emily 10/21/2002 4:11:00 PM

I think I just tried this at the wrong time of year :) My skin is acne-prone and oily, but this time of year I need a bit of a heavier moisturizer b/c my skin gets dry patches. It is a great lightweight, fragrance free moisturizer w/ SPF! It will be a great summer moisturizer for me...but in winter it's best for REALLY OILY skins.

Lip Gloss -Delux Beauty - Lip Gloss [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5
Emily 10/20/2002 3:42:00 PM

I bought J.B., and I really like it! It's very shiny, not sticky at all! The staying power is decent; above average for most glosses. Yes, it is not super cheap, considering the glosses are small, but I really LIKE the fact that I can stick it in my jeans pocket and not have to carry a makeup bag! I like the portability of it. J.B. is a rosey pink neutral color that is good for every day. I will be buying more of these!!!***************EDITED************* i have since swapped/bought two more glosses--Melvin (sheer red) and Odin (light plum--a glossy Stila Natalie.) I LOVE THEM!

Palettes -Stila - Stila 8 pan holiday matchbook
rated 4 of 5
Emily 10/17/2002 1:02:00 AM

This is a GREAT collection of shadows and blushes for brown-eyed brunettes! I can take this palette with me on vacation and it's all i need!! I really like Tone and Heather--really pretty colors, and Tone is very unique. Ecru is the most PERFECT white shadow...love it as a highlighter The only color I do not like is Grape. It makes me look like my eyes are bruised! Too red-toned. But overall, I LOVE this palette! Shoulda known my Stila gal Marianne would love it too :)
