I have become a connoisseur of lip balms this season. I have tried them all from Sisley, La Mer, Chanel to Blistex, Chapstick and so on. The cold is brutal on my lips. They get red, cracked and irritated. I tried Blistex Medicated Lip Ointment for a few days and am not impressed. The texture is nice, its thick- something I am looking for but it falls short of working well. The scent is minty with undertones of elmers glue. It felt like it sat on my lips and did not absorb. It would probably be a good balm for someone with mild dry lips but for moderate to severe dryness, irritation and cracking- this is not enough and does not do a good job.
Deodorants -Dove - Clinical Protection Visibly Smooth
EmHimes 12/30/2010 4:27:00 PM
I have used this deodorant for at least a year and love it. It truly works and prevents sweating. I am not really a heavy sweater but (and I don't mean this to be TMI) but my periods/pms has changed since my early 30's and sweating with chills/hot flashes has become a real problem. Dove works great and prevents sweating during this time for me. I have tried other clinical strength brands and none work as well as this. I highly recommend it.
Not one of my favorite Cleansers from Mario Badescu. This stuff does absolutely nothing for my skin. The ingredient list is very short, which could be a good thing, but its shows when I use this because its like it does nothing. The consistency is a gel. It does not foam or lather. You massage it around your face but when I wash it off, my face does not feel clean at all. I really like this line of skin care but this cleanser is really a disappointment. I will use up what I have but I would not repurchase this. If you are considering this cleanser, you should look into others from Mario. The Glycolic Foaming Cleanser is amazing.
I am very disappointed with this deodorant. Since its 'Clinical Strength' I was expecting this to work well and prevent sweating. I have used almost the entire deodorant and it has not prevented sweating. I am not a heavy sweater either. I will not get this again. I have however used Dove Clinical and that stuff is amazing, works well every time. If you are looking for a good deodorant that prevents sweating, you should look into Dove. I have not had luck with Secret At all.
Powder -Sephora - Mineral Double Compact Foundation SPF 10
EmHimes 12/12/2010 9:22:00 AM
This stuff is okay but I would not buy it again. For some reason, it seems like it 'sits' on my skin and doesn't even out well. This is usually not an issue for me with other brands making me think that something in the powder does not agree with me. I have not had any luck with mineral foundation products so maybe its minerals in general that don't work for me. This is called 'Foundation' but acts more like a powder/setting powder then a foundation. I will use up what I have but won't get this again. I would recommend trying this at Sephora before buying and if you have not had luck with minerals in the past, there is nothing about this that is 'better' then any other mineral foundation.
Eye Primer -Too Faced - Shadow Insurance, Anti-Crease Eye Shadow Primer
EmHimes 12/12/2010 9:15:00 AM
An amazing eye primer. Works every time with no creasing. I love that you only need a tiny but and the tube lasts so long. I have never had an eye look crease or fade on me with this. I have stopped using all other primers. Since this works amazing and is so inexpensive ( I normally use Dior, Guerlain and Chanel so compared to those prices, this is so much better. $17.00 to $18.00 in those lines will get you an empty box and maybe a velvet sleeve). The tube will last forever. If you are debating on whether to get this, I would say go for it. I will add that I have used this year round which includes hot summers and have never had a crease. Great stuff.
I don't know why I waited so long to buy this. This is an amazing set of colors. I use it for a smokey eye look. The darkest color is a black with golden green shimmer. There is a pink shade, a medium to light gray and a white gray. I love the smokey eye look but sometimes 'matte black' is to much and dramatic. This set is unbelievable for the smokey look that has the same effect but most as hard. I can't say enough about how pretty the colors are. I think this would work for almost all cool toned gals and neutral enough to work for warmer tones as well. The individual colors alone are nice, making this a set you would reach for more so then others.
Tinted Moisturizer -Laura Mercier - Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20
EmHimes 12/12/2010 9:02:00 AM
I have to add a good review for this. I love this tinted moisturizer. It gives a hint of color and makes my complexion even and gives it color. I am very fair and most lines make a light, medium and dark color- and that's it. I can't use those lines because the 'light' is either to dark or orange. Laura Mercier offers a nice range of colors and I love that they make one light enough for me. I have never had any issues with clogged pores or breakouts from this. I have a little redness around more nose and this has enough color to hid that. If you need a lot of coverage, then do not get a tinted moisturizer. This is light, sheer and not made to conceal. Its great for days when you don't want to wear a foundation.
I would say that this is good but not great. The hold is okay. I am looking for a spray that gives hold that stays in place without the hard, helmet hair look. If you want significant hold for a style, you would have to use a lot of this product. Its a light hold. You can run your fingers through your hair with this and it looks very natural, like you have no hair spray in. But because of the low hold, it does not stand up well to styles that need to stay in place very well. Good for light hold but not so much for styles that require more hold.
This is not one of my favorite speed, fast dry top coats. It works 'okay' but I have to say that I have found others that do a far better job. My bottle actually dried out on me about half way though its use. I had the cap tight and always stored it in a closed, dry, dark space. I would say its performance is average. Seche Vite is what I use and I love it. In my experience, the OPI works average but if given the choice, I would go for another brand.
Moisturizers -Sisley - Restorative Facial Cream - Creme Reparatrice
EmHimes 12/12/2010 8:45:00 AM
I have to give 5 stars to this cream. I do not use this daily, its to rich for that purpose. But I do TCA and various facial peels about once a month/every other month and this cream is what I use during the healing process. Its very soothing, never irritates my skin. Some may complain about the smell- I kind of like it, its not bad at all. The price is high however but in the world of Sisley creams, this is on the lower end of the price scale. Because I use it when my skin needs to heal (after peels, or really dry northeastern winters) I do not use a lot and my jar lasts. Great cream to have on hand when skin needs something extra to help sooth, heal and protect. I would absolutely recommend it.
Polishes -Christian Dior - Purple Revolution Nail Polish
EmHimes 12/12/2010 8:39:00 AM
This review is for Dior's Purple Revolution Nail Polish, new for Fall/Winter 2010. This color is very, very dark. Its almost like a black shade that has hints of deep purple when it hits the light. Its very pigmented because when I tried to remove it with polish remover, my fingers and nail bed stained purple. I get this with dark colors but it was particularly more noticeable with this color. The staying power is great, I will say that. The shade is matte but has a pretty shine to it. But again, it is very dark, almost a purple/eggplant black. The bottle also features the newly designed Dior applicator brush which does make applying color much easier. 5 starts for the new brush.
Treatments (Eye) -Promaxyl - Eyelash Renewal serum Rapidlash
EmHimes 12/12/2010 8:33:00 AM
This stuff is unbelievable. I was surprised at how well this works. I will not be without this stuff. First off, the brush makes it very easy to apply. But make sure you apply this only where you want growth. I lined the entire upper lash line from start to finish and ended up with to many lashes in the inner corner of my eyes. There is no question that my lashes are longer, the results are almost unbelievable. I will say that I was not having eye lash issues to begin with- no lose of lashes, no breakage. I just wanted to enhance what I had and get some length. It did that and went beyond. I highly recommend this. The price point is better and less expensive then other brands but its not cheap. BUT it is worth it.
I can not recommend this at all. Maybe I got a bad bottle? This smells exactly like melted wax from a line called Gigi Beeswax, sold at Sallys for hair removal. The smell took me back about 20 years to my first job as an esthetican and doing waxing appointments. It even has that 'muslin strip' aroma too! I think the Brown Sugar scrub smells much better, but the lotion here is a big fail for me.
Not one of my favorites....I wish this were packaged in a squeeze tube, the product is not so thick, that a tube would not work. I shower (not bath) so its almost impossible to keep water from getting into the tub. As far as the product, its okay. This stuff is $$$. I would expect it to do something amazing but it does not. My hair was conditioned and it felt softer but I don't have to spend nearly $40.00 for that.
