Eye Shadow -MAC - Frost Eye Shadow - Swish
rated 5 of 5

Despite MAC and reviewers describing this as a pink shade, to me it’s definitely in the purple family and it’s most definitely a unique shade. It was one of those unplanned purchases you end up loving. I like that as a frost it imparts a lovely sheen on my lids and it can be applied lightly as a wash or more intensely. I often pair it with Stila Key eye shadow. It wears well all day with no fading, creasing or smudging. It works well with Syrup and Sweetie lipsticks. For reference I’m a cool-toned PPP with blue eyes and blonde hair. I reckon it would suit most cool-toned girls.

Lip Gloss -MAC - Viva Glam VI SE Lipglass
rated 5 of 5
Eleven 4/24/2008 1:56:00 AM

As much as I love MAC lipglasses for their unbeatable texture and lasting power, other than Cultured and the original Viva Glam VI I don’t really like any of the colours in the regular range and usually stock up on LE pinkish shades, so I bought 3 tubes of this. It works well alone on my PPP, C2 with blue eyes and blond hair complexion and I highly recommend it for cool-toned fair girls. It’s a pink-mauve with subtle gold shimmer that is slightly frosty and quite similar to Cultured. I agree with the other reviewer who says this goes well over Syrup lipstick. It also pairs really well with Fabby lipstick and Swish eye shadow. I love the texture of MAC glasses because they wear well, moisturise the lips and make them feel cushioned. It’s a pity this isn’t made a permanent shade like other Viva Glam products.

Lip Gloss -MAC - Cult Fave
rated 4 of 5
Eleven 4/13/2008 8:14:00 PM

Being LE and the sort of colour I’m attracted to, I bought 2 tubes of this. It does, however, on its own, have a tendency to wash me out as it’s frosty and I’m very pale with naturally pale lips. Over Fabby lipstick, however, this is excellent as it helps to tone down the gold frost in the Fabby. It also works well over Sweetie. There is a Clinique lipstick called Pink Goddess which makes another great combination. My sister also bought this when she was holidaying with me. We have similar complexions but this doesn’t wash her out and looks great on its own. A good shade for cool-toned PPPs.

Lip Gloss -MAC - Lipglass in Nico Now
rated 3 of 5
Eleven 1/23/2008 10:22:00 PM

This gloss is from the LE MAC Originals collection which has revamped and revived some old shades. For reference, I’m a blonde, blue-eyed cool-toned PPP (MAC C2). This gloss is fairly sheer and seems to enhance my natural lip colour by adding a touch of depth and lots of shine. I think my natural lip colour makes me look unwell and so in using this gloss I can’t quite decide if I like it on its own or not – does it enhance my natural lip tone or not? I certainly like it over a pink lipstick, as the pink in the lipstick adds some brightness to my mouth. I also like to combine it with Palatial Lustreglass, which also has pink tones but I don’t think I’d repurchase even if it wasn’t LE. Nevertheless, this has MAC’s high quality texture that feels very comfortable on the lips and lasts well. The small shimmer particles do not cause me any problems.

Conditioner -Joico - Daily Care - Leave-In Detangler
rated 5 of 5
Eleven 12/17/2007 7:23:00 PM

This is now called Daily Care Leave-in Detangler. It says it’s a leave-in conditioner and thermal protectant, which means two products in one as I blow dry and flat iron my hair each day and like to use a leave-in for some moisture and a thermal protectant to prevent heat damage to my hair. As it’s summer in Australia and I didn’t want anything too heavy in my hair (and also my HG Redken Soft Ends leave-in has been discontinued) I thought I’d give this a go. I find it incredibly light so I can use it on the roots, which helps just after my hair has been bleached and does tend to tangle a bit. I also spray it generously through the lengths and ends and it doesn’t weigh my hair down at all. This might not work for girls with really thick or very dry hair but for my fine hair it seems to be great, and the fragrance is very subtle so won’t compete with your shampoo or conditioner. It doesn’t go crunchy and seem to help keep frizz and fly-aways in check. I will repurchase.

Lotions/ Creams -Aveeno - Intense Relief Hand Cream
rated 3 of 5
Eleven 12/17/2007 7:14:00 PM

This absorbs quickly without leaving a greasy residue, which is a big plus. I do think it probably lasts through one hand washing. However, I didn’t find this as moisturising as I expected. I think there are better or at least the same quality of hand creams that are a couple of dollars cheaper and probably smell better too. This hand cream is fine but it’s not rave-worthy and I don’t think I’ll bother to buy it again.

Treatments -Garnier - Synergie Pure - SOS Anti-Blemish Pen
rated 5 of 5
Eleven 12/17/2007 7:08:00 PM

I’ve always been fortunate to have pretty clear skin (even in my teens) and am now in my late 20s with good skin, but occasionally I get that one lone spot on the face that’s really annoying. I’ve found that applying a tiny amount of this with a cotton tip directly onto the pimple at night really helps. I wake up in the morning and generally it’s gone or is at least a lot smaller. It tingles for 5-10 minutes after application but it doesn’t feel sticky or greasy. It’s also clear so it doesn’t look silly. The tube will last me ages as I hardly have to use it (only a few times a year) but I will repurchase when it runs out.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Paradisco (Frost)
rated 4 of 5
Eleven 10/15/2007 11:36:00 PM

I went to Rosemount Australian Fashion Week last week and got this in the official goodie bag. It’s not a colour I would naturally pick as I’m a very pale, cool-toned blonde with blue eyes and thought this colour would be too warm for me. Turns out it’s not, however, it’s not the sort of colour I’d normally gravitate towards and so I probably wouldn’t repurchase even though I’m happily using it. As some other reviewers have said, it’s like a sunset colour and instantly reminds you of lazy afternoons on the beach. I’ve found I’ve had to pack it on my lids to get colour pay off but it is a very pretty, unique colour that has lasting power (ie. no creasing or fading throughout the day). I would only wear this in summer with bright pink lips (a combination of MAC’s lustreglsses in Palatial and Wonderstruck goes really well with it) and peachy blush. It probably would make a great blush so I’ll have to give that a go some time. I also got Aquadisiac at RAFW and I suspected they’d make a great pairing, which has been confirmed by other reviews so I’ll also have to try that.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Satin Taupe
rated 5 of 5
Eleven 10/14/2007 8:50:00 PM

I went to Rosemount Australian Fashion Week last week and got this in the official goodie bag. I’ve seen this shade for years at the MAC counter and being a taupe assumed it would be like any old medium brown shade and so there was no need to purchase it as I have enough browns in my collection. Well, I’m glad I didn’t have to pay for it (!) but I was wrong. Every girl should own this as it’s such a versatile colour. It’s definitely not a boring brown, but one that applies smoothly, wears well all day and has a nice silvery sheen to it. I agree that it has some mauve undertones and is a very versatile colour that could be paired with many other colours on the eyes, lips and cheeks. I also imagine it would suit a variety of skin tones (I’m coll-toned PPP with blue eyes and blonde hair). I also agree with other reviewers that Satin Taupe is best set off with a brow highlighter such as Shroom to give it that extra pop to the eyes. I highly recommend this must-have, non-boring brown shade.

Shampoo -Kerastase - Bain de Force
rated 5 of 5
Eleven 10/14/2007 8:42:00 PM

I find Kerastase conditioners, treatments and styling products good but not worth raving about. However, I find their shampoos to be the best in the business, and Bain de Force is about the only one I hadn’t tried so I thought I’d give it a go. My abundant hair is naturally very fine, prone to frizz and fly aways and as I wash and heat style it daily and colour it regularly, I figured it could do with a shampoo designed for weakened hair. I’m always a sceptic when it comes to believing products can strengthen or repair hair so I really can’t say if it’s helped to fortify my hair but like with all Kerastase shampoos, it cleanses gently, leaves my hair tangle free and feeling really soft and smooth and that’s all I can ask for. So although Kerastase is expensive I am willing to pay for their shampoos because I believe they are the best around. I will definitely repurchase.

Treatments -Redken - All Soft Velvet Whip
rated 3 of 5
Eleven 10/14/2007 8:40:00 PM

This supposedly replaces the Soft Ends leave-in condition in the All Soft line, but how can a thermal treatment product containing quite a bit of silicone replace a lovely, light leave-in? I am not sure how I’ll live without Soft Ends, and although there isn’t anything wrong with Velvet Whip, it certainly isn’t a replacement in my opinion. The texture is lighter and more like a gel. I use two pumps on my very long, frizz-prone and heat styled hair when it’s damp. I think it’s supposed to condition with the heat of my ghd (like the Kerastase Ciment Thermique) and while my hair does feel soft after use, it doesn’t seem to do much to reduce frizz. I’ve only used it for a few days now so will see how it goes and I’ll update my review if I change my mind but for now I don’t expect I’ll repurchase (unless my search for a replacement for Soft Ends is not successful and I may have to stick with this).

Polishes -Bourjois - So Laque - Rose Vamp
rated 5 of 5
Eleven 10/14/2007 7:56:00 PM

This is the perfect, non-shimmery blue-based, bright-but-not-too-bright raspberry with high shine. It adds a lovely pop of colour for spring/summer and is just the colour I was looking for when I bought it. I’m super-pale and cool-toned and this looks fantastic on my toes. I think it would also suit much deeper shades of cool-toned skin. I’m not sure this is quite the quality of Chanel nail polishes (as I’ve been led to believe they all come from the same factory in France) but it’s very good value for AUD12. My only slight criticism is that the neck of the Bourjois bottles is long and so the polish goes right up the stem of the brush which can be a little messy. I’ll definitely repurchase as I love the shade.

Treatments -Sally Hansen - Complete Care 4-in-1 Treatment
rated 4 of 5
Eleven 10/14/2007 7:53:00 PM

This can be used as a base coat, as a top coat and as a clear nail lacquer. I find this wears well, doesn’t peel or chip easily and has a high shine. It’s almost double the price of other Sally Hansen nail polishes and I’m not sure how much it does extra compared to other base and top coats (I’m a sceptic when products claim to grow or strengthen nails, which make up its 4-in-1 properties) but I’m happy with it and will probably repurchase.

Lips -Maybelline - Shine Seduction Glossy Lipcolor - Ruby Spell
rated 3 of 5
Eleven 10/14/2007 7:49:00 PM

This is a cool-toned deep pinky-red with shimmer. For those blonde PPPs like myself who often find it troublesome to source good red lip shades, I recommend you try this. I don’t tend to wear reds often but this is a nice shade and helps to make teeth appear whiter due to its blue base. I’ve knocked a couple of lippies off, however, because I don’t like the consistency of this. For me it’s not thick and emollient enough but I am one of those people who love sticky, tacky, thick glosses so for those who like a thinner consistency this might be for you because it looks glossy but doesn’t feel overly glossy and your hair won’t stick to it.

Gels/Soaps -Aveeno - Moisturizing Body Wash
rated 5 of 5
Eleven 10/11/2007 6:54:00 PM

I like that this has a thick, creamy feel with a light fragrance as it makes it a pleasure to use. It’s gentle on the skin. It’s not the most moisturising body wash I’ve used but I do like it and will repurchase. The bottle lasts for ages, as a little bit goes a long way so it’s good value for money even though it’s a bit more expensive than a regular drugstore body wash.
