Brows -Smashbox - Brow Tech Wax
DivineHammer 3/11/2011 1:00:00 PM
I ordered this online, was absolutely shocked at how small it is! For $20, I would expect more than a tiny teeny bit of product (the diameter is about the same as a nickel). The product works ok, but it isn't magic. I don't know why my brows are suddenly unruly, but they are. I apply this, and for the most part, they stay put. There are always a few strays though, it doesn't work 100%, which is disappointing to me. I still end up looking like a crazy old man, but it helps a little!

Styling Products -TRESemme - Fresh Start Dry Shampoo for Oily/Straight to Normal Hair
DivineHammer 3/11/2011 12:28:00 PM
This product is absolutely terrible. I used it correctly, and it made my hair look dirtier than before. It made my hair look like a vat of grease, it felt disgusting, like grease. I actually had to wash it out, which defeats the purpose! If you're looking for a good oil zapper, I use Lush's body powder between washes. It is super fine powder, you can't see it, it smells lovely and gets the job done.

Pressed Powders -Physicians Formula - Multi-Colored Corrector- GREEN
DivineHammer 1/19/2011 3:58:00 PM
This powder makes you look super green, like a comic book character. Yes, I used as little as humanly possible, and yes, I always ended up looking green. Someone else mentioned that it doesn't work well in combination with other mineral makeup -- maybe that's my issue. But it is green, so green. I use a kabuki brush, make a quick, light swipe over the powder, tap it all off the brush, and it is still too green. And my face is still red!

Treatments -Ion - Anti-Frizz Solutions - Extreme Moisture Nurturing Creme
DivineHammer 1/19/2011 2:31:00 PM
This is the best product to use immediately after coloring your hair. I rinse the hair dye out, then slather this stuff on (combined with straight natural protein), and let it sit for 15 minutes or so. Even after being treated so terribly with the dye, my hair feels great after I wash this out. It looks silky and smooth and seems to repair all the damage I do with the dying. Love this product!

Moisturizers -Cetaphil - Moisturizing Cream
DivineHammer 1/19/2011 2:27:00 PM
My skin is on the dry side. Most moisturizers are just not heavy enough for me. For a while I used straight up Vaseline, but it would clog my pores. I found this, and really like it. It is super thick and heavy, I put it on at night and wake up with nice, soft, balanced skin. It doesn't clog my pores or cause any irritation, like most lotions do. It is too thick to apply make-up over it, the make-up slips and slides, but it does a great overnight deep moisturizing job.

Styling Products -Beyond The Zone - Straight Shot Straightening Balm
DivineHammer 1/19/2011 2:22:00 PM
This product reminds me of Rusk Str8 exactly. It makes my hair super dry and straw-like, doesn't protect my hair, doesn't make straightening easier, doesn't keep humidity out. Basically, it doesn't do anything it is supposed to do, AND it makes your hair feel dried out and gross. Do not recommend.

Styling Products -Beyond The Zone - Turn Up the Heat

I don't understand this product, it does nothing for my hair. Nothing. At all. It doesn't make it greasy, it doesn't make it dry, it doesn't stop my ends from splitting when I flat iron, it doesn't make it smell good, it doesn't do anything. I've been using this for months because it is cheap, my stylist always comments on how much damage there is from the flat iron. Clearly, it isn't working.

Foundations -Dermablend - Cover Creme (new formula)
DivineHammer 1/19/2011 2:13:00 PM
Redhead here, with very, very fair skin -- I'm always the absolute lightest on the shade scale. Thankfully I've been blessed with lovely skin, no issues at all with acne or any imperfections, so I've been able to swing by with casual swipes of tinted moisturizer my entire life as my "foundation." Then I was in a really bad accident, and left with a lot of redness and scarring that is in the process of healing. Several of my doctors recommended Dermablend. It was really, really difficult for me to figure this stuff out coming from a very casual makeup user. I watched a ton of You Tube videos, and asked advice from everyone I know. What I have learned...dig it out (SMALL amount) of the jar and rub it on the back of your hand until it is nice and smooth. I warm it up with my breath, too. It becomes nice and creamy. Don't use any primer or lotion with it. My skin is on the dry-ish side, the best way it works for me is to use moisturizer the night before, then nothing the morning of application. I can't even wash my face in the morning or it won't stick, or cover properly. Also, you have to exfoliate like crazy the night before, because this stuff adheres to any flakes you may have, and cakes and looks terrible. Second, a foundation brush is NOT the way to go, don't waste your money on theirs, like I did. A concealer brush didn't work either. The best way I've found to apply it is by using a triangle sponge, blending like crazy. I only apply it on the red areas, and blend it in with the remainder of my skin. I don't apply it all over my entire face. Use a mineral powder foundation to set it, no need to buy their setting powder, mineral powder foundations work fine, and sort of finish the whole look. It just makes the Dermablend set, and gives a uniform look to the rest of your face, sort of "hiding" the Dermablend. Before I figured all of this out, I hated Dermablend, it did nothing for me, and I felt completely hopeless about these hideous scars. After playing with it, and trying and trying, I now use it every day. I'm so thankful, it gives me more confidence about my appearance while I heal. In fact, I even started using it on undereye circles, it works like a charm there as well. I highly recommend it, but I also recommend not giving up on it! Keep playing with it until you can get it to work for you, it is way worth the efforts.

Styling Products -Rusk - Str8
DivineHammer 1/19/2011 1:19:00 PM
This product is gross. I bought it because my stylist recommended it, but it made my hair look awful. It dried my hair out so much, my hair always felt, and looked, like straw. It actually took much longer to straighten my hair after using this product, and I could never get my hair fully straight with it. I would go over the same strand over and over and over with my flat iron and the curl remained. Thought maybe I was using it wrong, tried more, less, combining it with other products, nothing worked. My hair always felt so dry and brittle, and looked like an absolute mess. This is by far the worst straightening product I have tried so far.

Conditioner -Aussie - Moist Conditioner
DivineHammer 1/19/2011 1:18:00 PM
This is my go-to conditioner. I have thick, wavy hair, and most conditioners I try are way, way too light, leaving my hair a tangled, stringy mess. This conditioner is nice and thick, and smells so good. It never leaves any build up, with other thick conditioners I end up having to use a clarifier every few weeks, but not this one. People are constantly commenting on how nice my hair smells, although I can't really smell it anymore! My hair always feels nice and soft, I won't use anything else.
