Moisturizers -Clinique - Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel
DiaryofaDyme 5/5/2013 10:00:00 AM
This moisturizer is amazeballs. No hassle or frills about it-it just works! It indeed has a gel-like consistency which feels very invigorating when applied to the skin. It takes a relatively short time(several minutes) to absorb into the skin(Even P-Ville's beloved cerave takes a good 20 min to absorb). For the people angry because it 'left a film' on their faces- you need to wait out the first min or two and just let it absorb- don't add anything to your skin during that time. Granted it's a bit pricey but you get a lot of product for your money. I have combo skin which is slightly oily in the T-Zone, but normal-dry in the cheek and forehead area, and this worked miracles on me. Once it absorbed, it felt just like my skin, and that essentially is it's purpose- to replenish the skin with moisture after it has been cleansed.

Fragrances -Coach - Perfume

One whiff of this fragrance was enough for me to decide that I have to have it. It starts out with a white floral accord, followed by a peachy note which then takes you to the drydown: a beautiful, fresh musk(the combo. almost reminds me of the smell of brand new leather). Unlike some musky fragrances which tend to be overdone or heady(white musk, I'm talking to you), this fragrance has just enough musk to come off as clean, while still maintaining it's feminine touch. I remindds me of a woman who is in control; her sensuality cleverly concealed in the daytime, allowing her to conquer the professional world, but at night, she rears her sensual face, and conquers her carnal fantasy. The beautiful packaging, of course, was also a welcomed bonus.

Fragrances -Escada - Magnetism

All the so called "modern" perfume makers better take heave because this is one of the few sweet fragrances done RIGHT. Is starts off with a sharp sweet note, almost syrupy, but then it evolves. First, to a fruity floral mix. Then, to a clean beautiful floral drydown. The secret to it's success in my opinion lies in the green/floral notes that offset the sweet ones just right, creating a harmonious, well integrated fragrance.

Misc Beauty Tools -Clarisonic - Mia
DiaryofaDyme 3/4/2013 7:47:00 AM
I consider this to be one of my smartest buys to date. Though my skin is dryish combo, I still have some troublesome spots; Mainly my T-Zone and sometimes my decollete will collect the occasional blackheads. I also suffer from some acne scarring and discoloration. Now, before I jump into this review, I will state that this is no panacea, nor is it intended to be. It does not claim to be the umbrella cure for all skin conditions from acne to dry skin. All it claims to do is provide a deep, yet gentle exfoliation, which it does fabulously. I've only had this gadget for a month, but I believe I'm already beginning to see results. It cleared the small cluster of blackheads from my chest area the very first time I used it. As far as my T-Zone, It's not 100% blackhead-free, but I notice a huge improvement. When used on drier areas of the skin, it exfoliated them just gently enough, without stripping the skin of it's moisture. I don't know whether it's the sonic technology or perhaps the quality of the brush-head(so dense and soft), but somehow, it just delivers. I'd recommend this to everyone.

Moisturizers -Neutrogena - Combination Skin Moisture Oil Free
DiaryofaDyme 2/11/2013 12:55:00 PM
If you look at my other reviews, you'll see I'm not a fan of neutrogena by a long shot. This product is actually the exception. It has an elmers-glue-like consistency that deeply penetrates the skin without the oily residue. My only qualm is that it contains silicones, which have already proven to slightly irritate my skin. That aside, it'll be my go-to from now on.

Fragrances -Paris Hilton - All Products
DiaryofaDyme 1/30/2013 1:15:00 PM
So, let me start off by saying that never, in a million years, did I think I'd like, let alone own, a Paris Hilton fragrance. However, after receiving a free sample from Ulta, I began to fall in love with this fragrance. To me, this fragrance comes off as ArdenBeauty's PG-Rated brother. Whereas Ardenbeauty says: "clean, feminine and sexy"; PH's fragrance says: "clean, feminine and confident in my sensuality"-See the difference? lol. The fragrances are similar in that their floral notes are well balanced by their green notes. However, Paris Hilton's contains a musky note that gives the fragrance a sense of pleasantness and familiarity(Ardenbeauty gives off more a sense of 'grown and sexy'). It's not by any means a rival to my beloved Ardenbeauty, but it is a child friendly version of the fragrance, which I feel comfortable wearing in the daytime.

Hair Removal -Silk'n - SensEpil
DiaryofaDyme 10/16/2012 3:33:00 PM
Let me start off by saying that even after I read the rave reviews, I was still a skeptic. 'Perhaps the hair takes one or two weeks to grow back', I thought, 'but 6 months(as packaging claims)- No Way'. This product has turned me into a believer. Before I dive into this review, I will add that I am middle-eastern, and you know what that means-hair, and lots of it. After struggling with foliculitis in my bikini line for way too long(my hair is also coarse), and after seeing different moethods of dealing with it fail, the sensepil really was my only option. And it rescued me. I primarily used it on my oits and bikini line, and occassionaly on my legs. My problematic bikini line is, after using it for about 8 months, clean and clear! It is 100% bare? No. If left unshaved/waxed/epilated for a month, a few hairs are bound to show up, but we're talking 6 tops. For me, that's a huge improvement. In the pits, I had less success, but that may stem from the fact that I've never waxed or epilated that area; just shaved. After having waxed once, the hairs became thinner and easier to deal with. My legs used to be another problem area. I HAD to shave every 2 days, or else I ran the risk of my legs looking kinda manly. Now, the hair does indeed grow back much thinner, and with patches. Also, let me also mention that I looked into the possibility of laser hair removal and ipl, and found that the results are not permanent, cost a lot of money, and the providers which do it in my area are ppl to whom the idea of showing my private bits doesn't excite me, to say the very least. It's private, cost efficient, and most importantely, it works. It is the ultimate hair removal solution.

Misc Beauty Tools -Tweezerman - Deluxe Eyelash Curler - metal
DiaryofaDyme 10/8/2012 11:48:00 AM
When I first used this eyelash curler, I could think only of one word:Yes! This curler has managed to score in every single category: Frame shape-much flatter than most drugstore ones-flat enough to fit the majority of my lashline without pinching. Did it fir every single lash of mine? No, there were a couple of lashes in the very back of my eye that didn't make the cut .However, I doubt I will ever find an eyelash curler to to fit all my lashes unless it's custom made for my eye shape; which happens to be very slanted. To solve this problem, I curl the lashes in the back of my lashline at an angle. This curler also provides an actual curl, and not that crimping that some other curlers give, and finally, that curl just lasts. Half an hour later, I found myself touching my lashes to check if maybe this lash curler was heated. And when it comes w/ two spare refills and a lash comb for 12 dollars, who's to complain?

Eyes -La Cross - La Cross Eyelash Curler with Refill Pad
DiaryofaDyme 10/8/2012 11:20:00 AM
Didn't like it. The manufacturers made pretty much every mistake imaginable in an eyelash curler: The frame was much too round and pinched; it gave my lashes a crimped look; and it didn't fit a large part of my lashline. To be fair, though, I will state my eyes are slanted, and thus, my lid is flatter. This might work for Caucasian girls.

Skincare - Body -Palmers - Cocoa Butter Formula with vitamin E-Swivel Stick
DiaryofaDyme 10/6/2012 9:21:00 AM
This is my second favorite stick lipbalm behind chapstick. It provides a thick coat of moisture and smells well. However, I wish it would last longer. As to it's skin smoothing properties-I've never found cocoa butter to even out discoloration-it just moisturizes. It's not love, but it is like.

Self Tanners -Jergens - Natural Glow - Medium
DiaryofaDyme 10/2/2012 5:40:00 PM
I was definitely underwhelmed by this product. It claims to moisturize while providing a buildable subtle tan. However, on me, it didn't moisturize, was streaky, and was filled with some unnatural looking sparkles. On the plus side, they got the color down-looked like my actual skintone, not the orangy tone that self-tanners sometimes impart. Was a dud for me, though I've seen my (paler) friend use it with much success. Go figure.

Moisturizers -Nivea - Aqua Sensation
DiaryofaDyme 9/26/2012 7:21:00 AM
Love is not even enough to describe that I feel toward this product, lol! I wake up every morning longing to put this stuff on, it's that amazing. I have combo skin that is prone to acne in certain areas. I used to use Control It by same brand when I was younger and my skin was oilier, but now it just won't cut it; I needed something more moisturizing. Then came aqua sensation. Everything about this cream is right;it's consistency-not too light or too heavy-creamy and invigorating, the amount of moisture ot provides-plentiful, while at the same time it never gets greasy. It doesn't irritate my skin as some other creams have, and moisturizes the drier areas of my skin while controlling oil in other areas. It also smells great. Nivea is such an underrated, yet terrific brand, and this product epitomizes just that.

Shampoo -Unlisted Brand - Clear Scalp & Hair Therapy
DiaryofaDyme 9/26/2012 7:08:00 AM
Upon reviewing the reviews for this product, I see that it seems to be a hit-or-miss. For me, it was more than a miss, it was an epic fail! I picked it up for the 'dry scalp relief' label on the box, and because I forgot the prescription for my medicated shampoo;p Now, my hair is dry, coarse and curly-from 3b on the front to 4a in the back. Some parts, especially the back, are extra dry and quite brittle. In the past, I've used head & shoulders, but had to stop because it irritated my scalp and made my hair drier, which contributed to the breakage. When I saw the 'for dry scalp' label, I thought 'ah, finally, someone who understands my needs', but when I used it, the results were disastrous. Not only did it irritate my scalp, but it dried it, much more than head&shoulders, and sealed it with some sort of thing(I think it was the silicones), preventing moisture from coming in. I wanted to cry at the results; lots of tearing in the back, dryness and a certain hardness of the hair. I will never repeat this mistake again.

Fragrances -Nina Ricci - Premier Jour
DiaryofaDyme 9/15/2012 8:12:00 AM
So, I tried to steer away from this fragrance because of how popular it is, but I failed- this fragrance got me, hard! It reminds me of sunny days, cherry blossoms and roses, of course. It is the epitome of a gentle floral. Nothing sophisticated or strident, just a clean, uplifting, caress of a scent done exquisitely. Feminine and comforting, it reminds me of my childhood nanny. Clean enough for daytime wear and feminine enough for evening wear. A timeless classic.

Eyeliner -Wet 'n' Wild - Mega Eyes Creme Eyeliner - Black
DiaryofaDyme 9/15/2012 6:45:00 AM
To me, this liner was just OK. The consistency seemed to gravitate to the dryer side, and I had to perform 'brush acrobatics' just to get some liner on the brushes I was using(I used a few). In four months it dried up on me completely, and was unusable. I think there are many alternatives on the market(think Maybelline, for example), that would perform just as well, if not better.
