Eye Primer -Too Faced - Shadow Insurance - Candlelight, Softly Illuminating Anti-Crease Eye Shadow Primer
rated 1 of 5
DarkSideChic87 2/22/2013 3:13:00 PM

I bought this when I was nearly out of my UDPP. I LOVE UDPP, but I was intrigued by the promise of a little shimmer in my primer, so I figured I'd give this a shot. First of all, it's not so much shimmery as just full-on glittery. Second, it didn't really do much to improve the wear or application of my eye shadow like UDPP does. Finally, it dried out the skin on my eyelids and brow bone like nothing I've ever seen. It was flake city up there, and adding glittery primer did not help with the look. I switched back to UDPP 2 days ago and my skin is already back to normal, so I know it was this stuff messing with my skin. Learned my lesson - sometimes it's better to just stick with what you know you love.

Hair Color -Manic Panic - Temporary in Vampire Red
rated 3 of 5
DarkSideChic87 10/24/2012 2:35:00 PM

I used this color to dye my hair for part of a Halloween costume. I dyed over my dark brown hair and was pleasantly surprised at how vibrant it came out. It looks different colors in different lights - in sunlight it looks like a bright, true red; in low light, it's a dark merlot; in some fluorescent lighting it looks almost fuchsia (which I'm not super fond of, but whatever). After dyeing it, my hair was in great condition, not dry or brittle like it would be with some permanent dyes. The reason I gave this product a 3 is because of the overall inconvenience that goes along with using it. First of all, it comes in a little tub and you have to scoop it out to put it on your hair. This can be extremely messy and will stain your sinks and floors if you're not careful. Then, you have to leave it on for a LONG time (I did 2 hours, but I know some people recommend overnight). Bleeding is also a horrible problem with this product. Every time I take a shower it looks like I've murdered someone in there because of all the red dye that comes out. My fingernails are also stained from washing my hair. I've tried using cool water to rinse my hair to prevent bleeding, but A) it didn't work, and B) who wants to take cold showers in October (I suppose you could wash your hair in the sink, but again, inconvenient). Then, as I take my showers at night, I have to blow dry my hair to avoid ruining my pillowcases and sheets from all the bleeding (I've already ruined a towel). Again, this is very inconvenient, especially since I don't get home from class until 9PM most nights. In conclusion, I would not purchase this product again. Maybe when I was younger and had more time for my hair, I would have enjoyed this, but all the extra steps that go along with using this dye are just not worth the trouble, despite the gorgeous color it gives. UPDATE: Not changing my rating, but I just wanted to say that this color continued to bleed from my hair into late December (I dyed it in mid-October). Every night the water in my shower would turn pink from this stuff bleeding. Such a pain to deal with.

Eye Shadow -BeneFit Cosmetics - Creaseless Cream Shadow/Liner - Skinny Jeans
rated 5 of 5

This stuff definitely lives up to its name! I put it on this morning before work and it lasted through work and kickboxing class. And it didn't crease at all. The color on me is a pewter with a little gold shimmer. It's great for a light smoky eye with one swipe, or you can layer it to build the color. Would absolutely recommend this product.

BB Cream -Skin79 - Vital BB Cream SPF50++ Hot Orange Label
rated 2 of 5
DarkSideChic87 7/1/2012 11:25:00 AM

Well, I really wanted to love this, but unfortunately it just did not work for me. I bought in to all the hype and gladly spent $20 plus shipping for this stuff. When I first used it, I noticed that the coverage is MUCH heavier than I expected, though the cream itself feels pretty light. I didn't really even have to use concealer with this. You only need a tiny bit (maybe 1/2 of a pump) for your whole face. The shade was pretty good for me, though it was slightly too yellow on my fair skin. Anyway, my main problem with this is that it caused a MAJOR reaction on my face - I'm not really sure if it was a breakout or an allergic reaction, but I had a few pimples all over, and TONS (I'm talking probably 50 or more) bumps that were like tiny, itchy whiteheads. I tried to convince myself it was a heat rash, but I stopped wearing makeup for a few days. When it cleared up, I tried this cream again and got the same reaction. I know everyone's skin reacts differently to these things, so based on the reviews here I'm sure it's not a bad product overall. However, I've never had a reaction like this to any skincare or makeup product, so I was very sadly disappointed.

Concealers -Cover FX - Conceal FX Camouflage Concealer
rated 5 of 5
DarkSideChic87 1/18/2012 8:29:00 PM

I bought this a couple weeks ago and I LOVE it! I went to Sephora planning on buying MUFE Full Cover concealer. Somehow the Cover FX display caught my eye and I took the plunge with this one. I'm usually very skeptical of products claiming to have "self-adjusting" qualities, but this one is definitely doing something right. I bought the X-Light shade which looks a bit orange in the tube. Once I blend it on my very fair skin, however, it matches perfectly. I would say it has medium full coverage - it covers under-eye circles and blemishes, stays put all day, and looks natural. I have not had any problems with the product separating like some people mentioned. I know some people mentioned that it's cakey and it definitely can be IF you use too much and don't blend well. You only need a TINY bit (like half a grain of rice or less) to cover both under-eye areas. I've found using my fingers is not the best method of blending this concealer, so I use a fluffy concealer/eye shadow brush (MAC 217) to blend. It allows the concealer to give me medium/full coverage and still look natural, whereas using my fingers tended to just rub a lot of the product off. The fact that you use so little product each time makes the $27 price tag really quite economical. I wear it every day and most likely will have it for well over a year. In short, this concealer is a GREAT product for the price. I will definitely repurchase.

Lipstick -MAC - California Dreamin'

I got this in a swap a while back. This is my absolute FAVORITE lipstick. It's the perfect pinky/nude shade for my lips. So sad that it was limited edition. I would buy a million of these if they brought them back LOL.

Mascara -Maybelline - Volum' Express The Falsies
rated 2 of 5
DarkSideChic87 9/30/2010 10:52:00 AM

I've been using this mascara for about a week, so I feel like I can give it a fair review. I heard so many raves about it that when I ran out of my last mascara, I went out and bought this one. My first experience with it was confusing, because I was really not sure how to use that spoon-shaped brush. My lashes came out clumpy and didn't look a bit thicker or longer than usual. Now, I definitely wasn't expecting the promised "false lash effect" but SOMETHING would have been nice. So, I asked on the boards how people were using this mascara and they seemed to be as confused as I was. Some people said to use it with the spoon side up, others said the opposite, and still others said they just used the sides of the wand. So I've tried it from every angle, and I can honestly say that it just really doesn't do anything special. My lashes still come out clumpy, and I have to use a lash comb just about every day (something I don't have to do with most mascaras). Now the mascara formula reminds me a LOT of Maybelline's infamous Great Lash. It's very wet, very drying to the lashes, and as I mentioned before, doesn't do anything to lengthen or thicken. I might use up this tube, but I will definitely not buy again. I should just stick to my old standby CG Lash Blast.

Concealers -Cover Girl - fresh complexion concealer
rated 4 of 5
DarkSideChic87 2/3/2010 3:24:00 PM

I'm on my second tube of this, and on a whim decided to read the reviews. I'm surprised at all the bad ones. If I had looked here first, I probably wouldn't have bought this concealer, but it's actually pretty great for me. I have very fair skin, so I use the lightest shade. It's great for my undereye circles because it's such a light formula, blends easily, and doesn't settle into fine lines. It's also great IME for blemishes. Though the formula is light, it usually covers my blemishes with just one layer. If it's particularly pesky, sometimes I have to use two layers. Sometimes, for even more coverage, I even apply powder after the first layer, then add a second. Because the product is so light and blendable, layering over powder does not cause it to look cakey or unnatural as it would with some heavier concealers. I would actually compare this product to MAC's Select Cover-Up, only this is better because it's not as drying as I've found Select Cover-Up to be. You also can't go wrong with the price. I will definitely be repurchasing.

Mascara -MAC - Studio Fix Lash
rated 4 of 5
DarkSideChic87 1/7/2010 5:56:00 PM

Love this stuff. I've never bought a MAC mascara before because I've always heard their mascaras are crap. I think it was easy for the sales lady to talk me into this one because I had a gift card. It's pretty awesome, though. Gives me awesome volume, a little length, and no clumps. The only thing is, it gives me results similar to CG Lash Blast (which is my HG), so IMO there's not really any point in spending extra money on it. If you have issues with the CG Lash Blast brush being too big but you like the formula, though, this may be good for you. The brush has the plastic bristles, but is much thinner than the LB brush.

Hair Styling Tools -Unlisted Brand - InStyler-Tre Milano brand
rated 4 of 5
DarkSideChic87 12/28/2009 10:24:00 AM

So, I've been using this for about 3 days and I'm pretty much in love. I have medium-thick hair that is mostly straight but always has a few weird waves and awkward pieces sticking out when I wake up, so I have to style it pretty much every day. Before the InStyler, I was using a standard flat iron, which did a good job of straightening my hair, but it would take me around 20 minutes to get all of my hair straightened. Not a good thing on mornings when I have to get up early for work. The InStyler allows me to straighten my hair in about 5 minutes. It's hardly more difficult than brushing my hair. It doesn't make my hair quite as shiny as using a straightener, I'm guessing because it doesn't press and flatten every hair, so I get a few flyaways (easily fixed with a little styling creme or shine serum). The fact that it doesn't flatten my hair is great, though, because it gives my hair more volume and movement, and shows off my layers, whereas a flat iron pretty much made my layers disappear. I do agree that it's easy to burn yourself with this if you're not careful, but I don't think it's any more dangerous than a curling iron. I would totally recommend this product. Makes my morning routine much quicker and easier.

Mascara -Maybelline - Pulse Perfection™ by Define-A-Lash® Vibrating Mascara ] ] [DISCONTINUED]
rated 1 of 5
DarkSideChic87 10/10/2009 10:37:00 PM

Just awful. I tried using this several times, adjusting my method (wiggling the brush, wiping off excess, etc.) and it just does not do what it promises. The bristles on the brush are too far apart so they hold tons of product, giving lashes that oh-so-glamourous clumpy, spidery effect. The vibrating feature is supposed to prevent clumping, but I feel it just doesn't do enough to make any difference. Plus, it's so awkward to have to hold down the little button while applying the mascara that half the time it ends up turning off while I'm trying to apply it. The best thing I can say for this mascara is that it makes my lashes very dark. This isn't saying much since I could get the same effect using the notorious Great Lash mascara which, though equal in crappiness, is about $8 cheaper than Pulse Perfection. I'll just have to stick to my HG, CG Lash Blast (why I ever stray from it, I'll never know).

Lotions/ Creams -Bath and Body Works - Heel of Approval
rated 5 of 5
DarkSideChic87 6/17/2009 1:29:00 PM

This is the most fabulous foot cream I've found. I'm going to the beach this weekend, so I wanted something that would make my feet look great. Before using this, I had the most uncomfortable, ugly cracked heels I've had in my life. It has glycolic acid in it, so it gets rid of any dead, dry, cracked skin. I bought it yesterday, used it last night, and literally all the tough, cracked skin on my heels is gone. My feet feel super soft and look great. I got this as part of a buy 2 get 2 free sale yesterday, so it was a good deal. Even if it's not on sale, I'll definitely repurchase. Would recommend this for anyone who has problems with cracked skin on their feet. It's also great for knees and elbows or any other cracked skin.

Mascara -L'Oreal - Full Definition Voluminous
rated 2 of 5
DarkSideChic87 5/23/2009 4:41:00 PM

Bought this on a whim recently when I needed new mascara. I love how dark it is ( I got it in "Blackest Black") but that's where the love ends. It doesn't give me tons of volume like it promises, nor does it define my lashes. All it really does is make them very dark and clumpy. I have to go back through them with a lash comb, and even then I can't get all the clumps out. Once in a while, on a lucky day, I can get it to look decent, but overall it's crap. Wouldn't buy again.

Lotions/ Creams -Unlisted Brand - Aquatanica Spa - Sea Moisture Gel Souffle
rated 5 of 5
DarkSideChic87 3/17/2009 4:58:00 PM

I absolutely adore this product. I usually use it after I shave as it is very gentle and sinks into skin quickly. It has a very unique texture: light, yet still moisturizing. The smell is a bit strong, but it's very clean and not overpowering. I love it. I would absolutely buy this product again. It's a little pricey for the amount you get, but I usually stock up during BBW's semi-annual sale so I don't have to pay full price.

Hair Color -L'Oreal - Natural Match haircolor [DISCONTINUED]
rated 2 of 5
DarkSideChic87 8/21/2008 9:41:00 AM

My HG hair color is Garnier Nutrisse in Dark Chocolate. Gives me a lovely dark brown color and makes my hair so soft and shiny. Well, unfortunately, they were out of this at the store yesterday so I picked up natural match in 4W, a similar color. The dye process was very easy, and pretty standard to all at-home hair dye kits. I absolutely love the applicator tip of this product. It's very thin, so it's easy to make little parts so you can get dye close to the roots. The color came out a very dark brown, which I love. My only issue with this product is that it made my ends extremely dry. I used almost half the tube of conditioner that is provided, and still my hair feels really dry. Probably nothing a little deep conditioning won't fix, but it's not something I usually have to deal with. I would probably not buy this product again, since it's not my HG. If I were in a bind again, however, I would probably go back to it. EDIT: This product killed my hair. Made my ends so dry and damaged. I ended up having to get about 7" cut off to make it look healthy again (luckily the style turned out really cute). The color also didn't last very long. Would definitely NOT buy this again.
