Powder -Bare Escentuals - Bare Minerals ALL

This review is for the Original formula foundation, I can honestly say I have tried this product long enough to determine it is garbage for acne prone skin types. Ever since BM became all the rage I was using this foundation, once the matte formula came out I switched over to that. My acne was so bad back then that I could never think to blame BM for contributing to my break outs. About a year ago I stopped using BM to venture out to other brands but I found myself coming back to this product. It appeared that once I started using BM again I began to break out horribly in ways I never have in years; I thought it was due to changing my skincare regimen. However, last week I did not have to go to work (I work in cosmetics) so I spent the week not wearing a drop of makeup. What do you know? My acne infested face was absolutely and completely spotless, I barely had comedones (blackheads). I thought it was because of my diet or taking B-complex. So yesterday I wore BM again for work and guess what, my zero zit face has about 10 new pimples all of which are near cystic. I understand the feeling of reading a review and thinking that won't happen to me because of X reason, but I clean my brushes daily so the breakouts are not caused by that. BM does not affect everyone this way, as my mom uses it with zero irritation, but if you're acne cautious I wouldn't venture into BM, and if you're already there consider if it is causing more breakouts. NOTE TO SELF: BARE MINERALS IS THE CULPRIT FOR MY BREAKOUTS!! Bismuth is a crappy filler that should not be used, and they need to stop lying to themselves that they need to change their formula or add an additional 3rd for their loose powders.

Moisturizers -Peter Thomas Roth - Oil Free Moisturizer

Sadly this moisturizer was rather anticlimactic. I think overall the idea of it was intriguing with all of the vitamins it contains and very small list of ingredients. I wouldn't go as far to say it is horrible because I wouldn't say that. This would be fabulous for heavily oily skin types which is not the case for me. Even though I am acne prone I need more than an oil free moisturizer to do the job these days. It may have caused me to breakout a little nothing inflamed, just a few clogged pores.

Foundations -Unlisted Brand - Mineral Hygienics

For starters I am bummed not many know about this foundation like the know about youngblood, bare minerals, and laura mercier. I want to begin by saying that I have no affiliation with the brand nor am I one of those youtube gurus who get sent free product and say there are "un-biased." Pros: Does not cause break outs, especially if brushes are kept clean Fantastic coverage that lasts all day, do need a mattifying powder for oily skin types. Finely milled which means less is more, also it glides on the skin more efficiently. Great color ranges (Mini starter kits are only $30 and include two foundation colors and one kabuki). Has 4 ingredients, and the fourth is mica which is minimal. Cute packaging. Cons: Is only online I have been on the mad hunt for a really great foundation for years. I first used Bare minerals, which was good until I realized the color was just not good and it could have been causing break outs. I then tried Everyday minerals which I found to break me out, and then I tried Alima. I loved Alima and still like the companies concept but I think there minerals need to be milled better. The powder is rather chunky, looks cakey, and you need a whole lot to get good coverage. Mineral Hygienics has stunned me because when I see all 5 star ratings for something I become skeptical; like are they paying people to write this stuff? Overall, they hold up to what they say and all one can do is try them out. If you decide you don't like it then they will allow you to return the starter kits for a full refund, and if it is a product then that's for an exchange. (Shipping can be free with online coupon codes).

Sunscreen -Unlisted Brand - Devita Daily Solar Protective Moisturizer spf 30

After extensive hours of research on a natural/ chemical-free sunblock, I discovered Devita natural's line was the best option. I have yet to receive it in the mail, but one of the biggest concerns people have said to have is that they are getting burnt while wearing it. One of the most important things to know and remember about physical sunblocks, and not chemical sunscreens, is that they are a physical barrier between your skin and the sun. Many people complain about how white their skin can get from physical blocks or the residue it leaves behind (this is zinc that is showing) Much like MMU, it has to leave a residue so that barrier exists, which means applying a sufficient and generous amount of sunblock on your face is extremely important. Devita also says you should reapply every few hours and right after swimming. The recommended, generous amount by the American Academy of Dermatology 1 oz. (a full shot glass) for the body and 1/4 of a tsp's worth of sunblock should be applied to the face, and if you do not have a white cast than you are either using nano-sized zinc or you are not using enough. Note: your face does not need to be ghostly white, but it should have some kind of sign zinc is on your skin protecting it from the sun. ***UPDATE: I finally receieved my Devita Solar Protective Moisturizer in the mail and I have to say, I love it! The feeling is so smooth and breathable. It is not at all too dry or too oily (which has been my previous experience with other sun protection products). I have highly acne prone skin, and when I say this I don't mean I break out on occasion, this is anything and everything that can break me out, will. I also have highly sensitive skin (due to using various prescribed, acne medications). Most sunscreens cause my skin to burn and turn bright red, which seems to be contradictory to their purpose, but Devita's does not at all, it soothes my skin and feels like a dream to put on. The aloe vera in it is most likely what is helping in that department. It does not leave a residue, which of course concerns me a tad if it's supposed to be micronized zinc and 19%, but since I have been wearing it on my face in 110 degree Arizona weather, while walking around my college campus, I have not been burned by the sun. For the acne sufferers out there, a good tip to making sure any product doesn't clog your pores is to cleanse well (by using an oil, mine preference is adding a 3 drops of tea tree oil to 2 pumps of purpose cleasner), because if anything sits on the skin for too long, even if it's deemed non-comedogenic, it may cause you to break out.

Loose Powders -Make Up For Ever - HD High Definition Loose Powder

I absolutely love this product! It lasts forever and a little goes a long way. I bought the travel size of this 7 months ago for $15 and it is still half full. I use this before I put my MMU on. It is instructed to use it after, but I think it creates a nice canvas for make up application. It refines pores and absorbs excess oil, so MMU does not go on cakey but glides on. It does not appear to break me out and I love that. It is made of 100% silica, so it has only one ingredient which I love!!!! This stuff is the best and is worth a potential splurge for some.

Powder -Alima - Satin Matte Mineral Foundation
Dancexnxthexrain 6/29/2011 6:41:00 PM
I love Alima pure cosmetics. They really know what they are talking about when it comes to cosmetics. I love that they have so many color selections (I think its 60-80) for my fair complexion. Most cosmetics, even BM fair, made me look shiny and fake. This caused me to hate wearing make up and found it to be less helpful than helpful. I also have acne prone skin and anything I put on it clogs my pores and breaks me out. Alima does not since there is only 3 ingredients in their products. I love that they match your skin type with a specific blush that makes my skin glow and I look healthy. There is no sheen or shimmer to their foundation, which I really like cause it is more natural. Their customer service is very helpful and friendly. The only downside is that if you don't live in Oregon you have to do mail order. One tip with this foundation is to use a good finishing powder before you apply the foundation (one like makeupforever HD finishing powder) it creates a nice canvas for the foundation to go on flawlessky since it does not absorb oil well. I love this product!
