BB Cream -Olay - Total Effects Tone Correcting "CC" Cream
DCMakeupAddict 3/12/2013 8:03:00 AM
As other reviews have mentioned, I've tried a few BB creams--Garnier, Maybelline, L'oreal, among others--and saw this advertised as a CC Cream and thought it would be magical and provide everything a BB cream does but with good coverage too! It was not magical. Its basically a moisturizer with a tiny drop of foundation, and does NOT provide coverage for anyone but a 20 yr old with perfect skin anyways. I am 33 with very fair skin, and a few patches of melasma (dark spots) that I've been lightening with a prescription formula, and was hoping the CC cream would help that process, but I'm not sure its doing anything extra. It also has kind of a weird too-slippery texture, and takes a very long time to dry. I tried Olay's CC Cream the first time as part of my normal makeup routine (with concealer and powder) and went to work, but by the end of the day I looked terrible (i.e. nothing to hide my dark spots/melasma and other scars). I like the look of this layered under foundation, because it gives a nice glowy look but is not greasy. Over the past few weeks of very dry weather in DC, I actually layered spf 30 moisturizer, then the CC cream, and then foundation (Almay Magic Mousse is nice!), and I still wasn't greasy by the end of the day and my makeup looked good. The verdict: I would recommend this as a decent moisturizer, layered under foundation, but definitely not as a standalone foundation--its just too sheer for most people.

Liquid -L'Oreal - True Match Lumi Healthy Luminous Makeup

So first off, I would agree that this foundation is not for those with really oily skin. Like many of you out there, I get oily in the summer, but just sort of regular t-zone oiliness in the fall/winter and I can take a lot more moisture in my products. This foundation is great for dry to semi-oily skin. The pump is AWESOME, and two pumps is perfect coverage. I'd say the coverage is medium to full, and although it might seem light, it actually covers quite well and the texture is so smooth and easy to apply. I apply it with my fingers, and make sure to smooth it out all the way down my chin and partly down my neck, because it can cake up just a bit if you don't spread it all the way out. Another post mentioned using a brush to apply and that could work too but I havent tried it yet. I've found that using the Nuance Translucent Finishing Powder on top of the foundation and concealer works the best. Leaves a beautiful, luminous finish that lasts for hours. Seriously, hours! I go out often after work, and I'm so impressed that with the combo of L'oreal Lumi plus concealer and Nuance powder, my skin still looks great over 12 hours later!

Mascara -Maybelline - Great Lash Lots of Lashes
DCMakeupAddict 12/19/2012 9:53:00 AM
I have been testing out a few drugstore brands on the hunt for the best one at the lowest proce (bc I don't think you have to pay a lot for mascara), and this unfortunately came up very short of the mark. First off, the brush is just weird and very hard to use unless you are ambidextrous. I can do my right eye ok, but the brush is so sharply tapered on the end that you have to really stretch into a pretzel to get the left eye. Then, if you can even get the product onto both lashes, it stays wet FOREVER, and smudges all over the lid. If that wasn't enough to turn you off yet, the final blow is that you can never really separate your lashes even with the best lash comb, and it flakes all over the place when you try so you end up with spidery, flaky, wet lashes for at least 10 minutes until their dry enough to try the comb again. Definitely don't recommend. Better choice, and so far the winner in my search, is CoverGirl Professional mascara. Holds the curl, lengthens lashes, lasts a long time even though its not waterproof, flakes only a tiny bit with lots of combing, and doesn't clump but builds nice volume.

Mascara -Cover Girl - Cover Girl Professional Mascara (washable)

I have been on the hunt for a good drug store mascara, and I think I've found it in Cover Girl's Professional mascara. In the last week I've tried Cover Girl Clump Crusher, Maybelline Great Lash Lots of Lashes, and Revlon Grow Luscious Plumping mascaras--and Cover Girl's Professional is the BEST PERFORMING so far! This product plumps lashes without clumps while providing length as well! So far I have had no issues with smudging, and only a little bit of flaking, but that is ok with me. Definitely recommend trying this product out!!

Mascara -Revlon - Grow Luscious Plumping Mascara

I bought this product (and the regular non-plumping version as well) after reading the reviews, but am really disappointed. I got the waterproof version, but its NOT waterproof. It smudges under and around my eyes from the start, and is super flaky. It volumizes pretty well, but when I apply it and run the lash comb through my lashes, it flakes all over my face! The only good thing is that it comes off easily with just soap. I do not recommend this product.

Liquid -Revlon - ColorStay Makeup

LOVE this foundation! I read an article in InStyle about Olivia Wilde (the face of Revlon) and she said that all of her friends stole this foundation from her bc they love it so much. I was skeptical, but tried it anyways, and its awesome! It feels superlight both during application and all day, but covers imperfections and redness like a miracle. The color selection is really good, and it blends seamlessly. Wonderful product and such a great price.

BB Cream -L'Oreal - Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream

Like others, I was a bit weirded out by the texture, but it quickly turned into a smooth product and dissolved into my skin. I am using the Light color, and tested the even lighter tone (Fair, maybe) but it was VERY light and didn't seem to have the same coverage as the Light tone. The Light is a wee bit dark for me, but with concealor in the key areas and powder on top, it evens out into a good color. I have melasma/dark spots, and this gives me a more even tone that I like, without the heavy feeling of full foundation. With a little Bare Escentuals concealor (LOVE this stuff, by the way), I have an even complexion all day without greasiness except on the most humid of Washington DC days. The only thing this product is missing is an SPF, which I use every single day to protect my skin. I layer the L'oreal Sublime Skin 50 spf sunblock underneath the BB cream and that works pretty well. I am going to try the new Maybelline BB cream that has an SPF and see how they compare.

Pressed Powders -Black Opal - Invisible Oil Blocking Powder
DCMakeupAddict 7/3/2011 1:20:00 PM
MAGICAL POWDER for ladies with oily skin!!! Seriously, this powder is fantastic! In the last few years my 30-something skin has been getting increasingly oily, especially in the hot summer months, and the best oil control and matte powders from Clinique, MAC, and others haven't done me any good. I randomly came across the Black Opal Invisible Oil Blocking Powder in the drug store and gave it a shot bc it was so cheap and no big deal if it didn't work. I was amazed to find that the unremarkable-looking ivory colored powder INSTANTLY soaked up the oil in my t-zone, and actually matched my skin tone perfectly! My winning makeup regime is to apply sunscreen, light foundation, and this magic powder with a fluffy brush, and I only need a touch-up towards the end of the day for oily-free skin!! SOOO glad to find this amazing product!
