Gels/Soaps -Nubian Heritage - Goat's Milk & Chai Soap with Rose Extracts

I absolutely love this product!! I have the body wash, not the bar. When I first smelled this, I immediately fell in love. I really don't know the best way to describe it, but you can definitely smell the rose extract. There's also a sexiness to this, and I do not find it overpowering at all. After you shower, even if you put on a moisturizer, you can still get a hint of the product. Aside from the scent, I also love what it does for my skin. This is very moisturizing, you only need a little bit of product to get a lot of lather, and my skin has gotten even softer since using this everyday for the past month. I would definitely repurchase this, and I am also thinking of getting the accompanying body lotion. This is the perfect product and scent for the colder months.

Conditioner -Organix - Repairing Awapuhi Ginger Conditoner
rated 4 of 5

I fell in love with Organix's Macadamia Oil Conditioner, but after that ran out, I wanted to try something different. I have 3c/4a hair that dries out very easily. This conditioner smells amazing, and moisturizes my hair very well. I have since repurchased the macadamia oil conditioner again, but I still use this one when I need to put some protein into my hair.

I love this product! I bought it for use after using the MUAC Mandelic Acid Peel. I had done the peel several times, but I didn't have a proper moisturizer to use after. My skin felt so tight, dry, and very uncomfortable. This moisturizer has less than a handful of ingredients, which I really liked because to me it means that I have less of a chance to break out (I have very sensitive, acne-prone skin)! This works so well to soothe my skin after my peels, and I also use it some nights after using my cleanser, if my skin is feeling particularly dry. The consistency is like Vaseline, which made me nervous at first because I feared I may breakout. But I haven't had any adverse reactions.

Masks -Makeup Artist's Choice (MUAC) - 25% Mandelic Acid Peel
rated 3 of 5
Chicagobabe89 11/1/2012 9:28:00 PM

I bought this peel a few months ago, hoping that it would work as well for me as it did for most of the other reviewers. I have done this peel more than several times, and I don't know how I feel about it yet. I have sensitive, acne-prone, darker skin, and I was looking for something that would help with hyper-pigmentation, evening my skin texture-especially on my forehead-and help minimize any breakouts that I experienced. I think this peel is helping to fade the marks slightly, and my skin looks bright the days after the peel, but it hasn't done anything for the small bumps I have on my forehead. I do feel like it does diminish the breakouts that I have, but it doesn't do anything for stopping them from forming. I will finish the bottle, but I do not think that I will be purchasing it again.

Skincare - Face -Makeup Artist's Choice (MUAC) - Mandelic Acid Toner

I ordered the sample size of this product, and I've been using it for almost one month, so I feel like I can finally give a review. I was interested in the product because I wanted to brighten my complexion, fade dark marks, and make my skin smoother. I had previously been using a glycolic acid toner, but I felt as though that was too strong for my sensitive skin. I think this is a great toner. I use it a few times per week as part of my night-time routine, and when I wake up, my skin always looks brighter. I've really noticed it smoother out the rough texture of my skin and helping with my acneic skin. The only thing that knocked off a lippie is that my skin feels dry after using this, and I normally have normal to oily skin. I'm pretty sure that comes from the alcohol in the product. If you use this product, use a good moisturizer, otherwise your skin might get that uncomfortably tight/dry feeling. After this sample is finished, I plan on buying the full size!

Moisturizers -Pro Activ - Green Tea Moisturizer
rated 3 of 5
Chicagobabe89 8/12/2012 12:09:00 AM

I recently started using Atralin, as prescribed by my dermatologist. Using this a few times per week really makes my skin extremely dry, so I began searching for a moisturizer that was gentle enough for my sensitive skin and was able to really moisturize well without being too greasy and breaking me out. I've been using this for a few days, and I can tell that it's not breaking me out, so that is a really big plus, but I'm disappointed because it's not that moisturizing and after I apply it, my skin still feels tight. One of the reasons I was drawn to this was because it's marketed to people whose skin is dry from acne medications. I think I'll continue using this when I wash my face in the morning, but I'm still looking for a moisturizer that works well for my night routine.

Cleansers -MyChelle - Apple Brightening Cleanser
rated 2 of 5
Chicagobabe89 8/12/2012 12:03:00 AM

I had high hopes for this product. I wanted to try something to help fade my acne scarring, make my skin tone more even, and provide some brightening to my face. I did notice the brightening right away, especially on my forehead, and the little bumps there seemed to be diminishing. Unfortunately I couldn't continue using this product because it was breaking me out on my chin and my cheeks. I had painful cystic acne that eventually went away after I stopped using the cleanser.

Gels/Soaps -Shea Moisture - Coconut & Hibiscus Shea Butter Soap with Songyi Mushroom
rated 2 of 5
Chicagobabe89 7/20/2012 11:25:00 PM

First I will say that I really like the Shea Moisture brand. I have used their hair products-shampoos, curling products- and have been impressed, so when I saw this soap at Target, I really wanted to try it. I was intrigued by the claims on the packaging which stated that it helps with brightening and evening out skin tone, and it has anti-aging properties. This soap smells really good. It has a nice, sweet coconut scent, but it isn't overpowering, which I like. I use exfoliating gloves when I shower, and I only had to apply the soap on the gloves one time during the entire shower. It produced a very rich, creamy lather. It makes my skin feel clean, but not stripped of moisture, and my skin is feeling even softer than before. I can't wait to keep using the product to see if I notice any brightening and evening out of my skin's tone, as I have a few scars and areas that are darker than others. I'm happy with this purchase. I paid five dollars for the bar, which I thought was a little expensive (I am used to buying Dove bars which are much cheaper), but it is definitely worth it. EDIT: I used this bar up completely, but I realized that it wasn't helping to provide any moisture to my skin. I did feel clean, but I did have that "stripped feeling". Also, the bar smelled great before I used it, but once I did, I could no longer smell the coconut. I will not be repurchasing this product.

Primer/ Corrector -L'Oreal - Studio Secrets Magic Perfecting Base
rated 4 of 5
Chicagobabe89 7/20/2012 11:16:00 PM

I bought this product on a whim, because I really needed it for an event I was attending. I hadn't heard any reviews, so I didn't really have any expectations that were too high. I will start with the only con I have: it isn't in a pump bottle or squeeze container, so I feel like it's a little bit unsanitary, even if you are using clean hands. Otherwise, I really like this product. I have oily, sensitive skin that's prone to breaking out if I use the wrong products. I haven't had any breakouts, my foundation stayed all night (even in hot, humid Chicago summer weather), and it felt so smooth going onto my skin. So to sum it up-my makeup stayed on, and it doesn't break me out. I even use on my eyelids because I keep forgetting to by an eyelid primer. I won't repurchase though because I really dislike the packaging.

Styling Products -Shea Moisture - Organic Coconut & Hibiscus Curling Soufflé
rated 3 of 5
Chicagobabe89 7/19/2012 11:12:00 PM

I had previously been using the hair smoothie from the same line, but I wasn't that happy with it because I felt like it didn't fight frizz or define my curls (4a/3c) that well. I used to use a gel that worked great for that, so I wanted to try this, since it has a gel consistency. This product is very oily! it's also very sticky which I do not like at all! If you try to work with your hair while this product is still wet in your hair, your hands will feel very sticky and uncomfortable. I gave it three stars because it did a great job of helping my hair lie flat and it did define my curls. But the sticky and oiliness is a huge con, and I probably will not use this again.

Mascara -Christian Dior - Diorshow Mascara
rated 4 of 5

When I first tried this mascara, I fell in love with it. I will admit that my eyelashes are not short, and they curl naturally, but this mascara made them appear longer and fuller. It was pricey, but it did last me a long time. I like trying new products, but I may go back to this one because I loved the results it gave me.

Lips -Revlon - Just Bitten Lip Stain
rated 3 of 5
Chicagobabe89 7/2/2012 9:26:00 PM

I got this product in "crave", and I will start by saying it's a very pretty dark purple/plum with a hint of red to it. It definitely stains your lips. The product lasted in Chicago humidity as I ate, drank, and worked out. However, there are a few things about this product that I don't like. The first one is that it's very drying on my lips. Even when I apply the balm portion of the product, I don't feel like I am getting enough moisture; and dry lips are very uncomfortable. The other thing that made this product lose points is that the balm portion broke off already, and I have only used this a handful of times. Overall, the color is nice, it lasts for a long time, and it doesn't transfer. If it didn't break and was more moisturizing, I would have given it more stars.

Styling Products -Organix - Curling Perfection Defining Cream
rated 2 of 5
Chicagobabe89 7/2/2012 9:19:00 PM

I got this on sale for a few dollars off of the regular price. I purchased this on the same day I got the Organix Macadamia Oil conditioner and shampoo, both of which my hair loves very much. I have very curly hair, so I wanted to try this cream to see if it helped combat frizz and define my curls. I have used this a few different times, and I am not impressed at all. It doesn't do much for my hair. It doesn't define curls, or keep them together. The only plus, and the reason I gave it 2 stars is the smell. It smells really nice, and reminds me of the original Pantene shampoo/conditioner. However, there are better curling creams out there.

I bought this a few years ago for some stretch marks that I have my sides. I read a lot of reviews and product information, and I was really hopeful that this would do what it says and help fade the scarring. This didn't do that, and it didn't feel moisturizing to me at all. There are better oils, like emu or avocado. This product also has a bit of a weird smell. Overall, I was very dissatisfied and glad that I had only purchased the small bottle.

Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Organic Root Stimulator Hair Mayonnaise

I've bought so many of these jars and packets over the years! I usually love to switch it up and use different products, but I always have come back to this one. It's amazing for my tight curls that easily get very dry and tangled. I leave it in my hair for as long as possible, wrap my hair in a plastic cap, and then rinse when I'm ready. The longest I've left it in was overnight. It works so well to condition your hair, make it very soft, and detangle it. I have a lot of hair, so I use a lot of product at a time, but I find that the jar lasts around a month or more if you use it once a week.
