BB Cream -Marcelle - BB Cream Beauty Balm
Cheapchic 4/21/2013 12:43:00 AM
I bought the BB cream and powder in a set for $23 CAD at London Drugs in medium to dark. I am NC30 and would say this shade was a bit dark on me but I didn't mind. I really liked the natural coverage and the moderately moisturizing attributes of this BB. I use Legere and also Kate BB gel on a regular basis and find that the Marcelle product is equally as good especially for the price. I can add some pigment powder where there is discoloration and I have pretty good success for a sheer but flawless look. Overall, I do recommend this BB, especially at this price point.

Hair -Bumble & Bumble - Hair Powder
Cheapchic 4/21/2013 12:36:00 AM
I paid $50 plus tax for a full size bottle at Sephora in Canada, which IMO is a $$$ product. It's marketed mostly as a temp colouring agent for roots which are growing out and a great idea for those who are between touch ups. I bought it mostly to cover up some thin spots on my crown which are especially unbecoming for women. I also have coarse straight black hair and a light scalp which makes it very apparent that my hair is thinning. Anywho, I was quite impressed by its ability to camouflage all of my bald spots and make the remainder of scalp look like I was born with enormous amounts of volume. HOWEVER, the product did make my scalp quite itchy. And relieving your itchy scalp only leaves some serious black residue on one'sfingers. And wearing light colours only escalates the issue with the black residue. (The black residue is only applicable if you are using the black powder formula so I cannot comment on the other shades.) I am contemplating whether to return the product as I like the advantages of having the baldness camouflaged but the black residue is overwhelmingly disarming. Perhaps if I had a big day like a speaking engagement or an important date, I might use it. I might be more inclined if the product were in the $20 range. Give it a try in the store before investing.

Polishes -China Glaze - Trendsetter
Cheapchic 4/10/2013 12:14:00 AM
Discovered this beautiful colour at my favourite new salon getting a pedi. Although I was getting a pedi in Cirque du Soleil limited edition Trap Eze, I could not resist trying this shade in on my tips. It is a cross between harvest gold and avacado colours you see on appliances from the 70s, but with more depth. I haven't bought it yet so can't say I would make a repeat purchase but will definitely look for it at my salon.

Misc Beauty Tools -E.L.F. - Mechanical Eyelash Curler
Cheapchic 10/16/2010 2:11:00 PM
Bought at Winners Canada for $5.99, not $1 as most reviewers noted here. This review is not about Winners' pricing strategies but the curler itself. Curler does not fit my eye shape but curls better than most drugstore equivalents. I found the handle to be space consuming and overall quality to be mediocre. Extra pad was a plus and I didn't experience pinching. It was ok but I won't repurchase.

Blush -E.L.F. - Contouring Blush & Bronzing Powder
Cheapchic 6/10/2010 12:56:00 AM
I am in Canada and bought this item at my nearby Winners as an impulse purchase for 6.99 CAD. This is an outrageous price given that the US price is only $3 and the exchange rate is almost at par. I dropped the darn compact three times in the store and the rubberized container survived, so full marks on the packaging quality. As others have mentioned this is a great dupe for NARS Laguna/Orgasm and I love the pigmentation. I thought the shimmer was very micromilled and could be worn for certain occasions. All in all, a great product at a cheap price.

Liquid -Jane Iredale - Liquid Minerals
Cheapchic 5/22/2010 11:27:00 PM
I bought this foundation online after reading the reviews on MUA. I usually use NC 30 or NC25 in MAC and ordered Warm Silk in Jane Iredale. I love the skin care feel of this foundation. The texture is not too thick or thin and one pump gives me enough coverage. I also live the pump applicator which keeps the product nice and sanitary. Will certainly repurchase if I can try another color.

Makeup Brushes -E.L.F. - e.l.f. Studio 11 Piece Brush Collection
Cheapchic 5/22/2010 9:33:00 PM
I purchased this set on clearance at Winners for $22.49 because the box was missing. I really enjoy the detail work I can do with the eye brushes. The fan brush is an interesting tool that I would not have bought individually. Bristles are artificial, not animal hair. Handles seem to be decent quality and are black matt in colour. All in all, this is a great little set for both beginners and connoisseurs of make up.

Styling Products -Charles Worthington - BIG Hair products
Cheapchic 1/30/2010 1:10:00 AM
I'm reviewing the texturizing sea salt spray. I've tried this product alone and also in conjunction with the S and C. When used alone, the product gave very little results and basically performed as a water bottle with some added fragrance. When used in conjunction with the matching products, it seemed to provide some light body to my stick straight hair. It may work as a very weak setting lotion, but I have not tested this. Either way, the product has mediocre performance at best on my coarse straight hair. Perhaps, results would be different on someone with finer wavy hair... This item was bought in a US drugstore on clearance for $3.19. No repurchase for me, sorry.

Shampoo -Charles Worthington - BIG HAIR - Full Volume
Cheapchic 1/30/2010 1:04:00 AM
I bought the shampoo, conditioner and sea salt spray when I was at Walgreen's (in the US) for $3.19 each on clearance. I have used all three now for about a month so I've had some time to reflect. I have thin (quantity) hair, but hair texture is thick and coarse. It's been a genetic trait that I have been blessed with, LOL! The use of all three products does have an amplified effect on my hair, and I have not figured out whether I like the overall effect. It does make my hair thicker if only by illusion, by coating the hair fibre. I gave it a 3 lippie rating for actually performing but knocked off two lippies for dragging it down and making it lose movement. Would I buy again? Sadly, no, it's just too difficult to buy in Canada and there's too much choice on the market.

Lip Treatments -Revlon - Beyond Natural Liptint SPF 15 ] [DISCONTINUED]
Cheapchic 1/6/2010 11:49:00 PM
I bought these at Fred Meyer (supermarket) for $7.99, BOGOF and was very very impressed with the moisturizing factor, the ease of application and the mere simplicity of the product. I realize through MUA that one can get these much cheaper at drugstores, so check your flyers. The spf 15 is great for outdoor activities and make a great casual lipcolor when you don't want a very made-up look. I have not seen these in Canada, unfortunately.

Makeup Brushes -Ecotools - Bamboo Angled Eyeliner Brush
Cheapchic 11/11/2009 4:07:00 PM
This is my all time favourite brush, and I got it $4 CAD. The bristles are stiff enough for my gel lner product. I love the packaging in so far as I can reuse it to store brushes for travel. In fact the pouch can store a couple of brushes, so don't discard the package. The taklon bristles are great and I don't have to feel guilty for any little hairless goats running around. I will repurchase and will buy a few extra.

Conditioner -Alba Botanica - Alba Hawaiian Mango Moisturizing Hair Conditioner
Cheapchic 8/23/2009 2:44:00 PM
I bought several Alba hair care products with my interest in non SLS shampoos. According to the website, This daily use conditioner provides nourishing hydration and refreshes with the aroma of mango nectar. Certified organic aloe and sunflower oil moisturize while tropical nut oils protect and repair. Enriched with shine-enhancing awapuhi for silky, strong, healthy, manageable hair. I found the conditioner to be thick and did not do a good job of detangling my short to medium length hair. The product did not rinse well and left my hair limp and lifeless. The mango scent was barely noticeable. The product did not come through the opening under the flip top lid and the entire lid had to be removed to access the product. I bought this product on sale for $3.99 at London Drugs, but really, I won't be repurchasing it at any price.

Lip Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Abreva Docosanol 10% Cream for Cold Sores
Cheapchic 5/1/2009 12:58:00 AM
This product retails for about $20 CAD and can be found in Shoppers Drug Mart, Safeway, pretty much anywhere you'd find lip treatments. I am an infrequent cold sore sufferer, maybe once per year. I am fastidious on keeping my hands clean and not touching my lips. Nevertheless, I had to invest in a little tube of this product, hoping it would obliterate my tingling lips before it developed further. First of all, the metal tube causes too much product to leak out, thus wasting a large amount upon opening. Think of Mac Paint and you have the right idea. How about making the packaging bigger and less easy to lose? After two days, the problem got worse. I can't say this product has been effective for me and I applied it on my lips within an hour of feeling pain and numbness.

Treatments -Lumene - Vitamin+ Radiant C Beauty Drops
Cheapchic 2/22/2009 7:18:00 PM
I picked up this item at my local Winners for $12.99 CAD. After a week of trying this product, I have not noticed any significant difference, either positive or negative. I enjoy the silky smooth texture, but this is the silicone effect that could give the user clogged pores. The scent is pleasant but the lack of results prevent me from re-purchasing this product.

Skincare - Body -Biotherm - Intensive Body Treatment with Apricot Oil
Cheapchic 1/4/2009 2:13:00 AM
This product has a lovely fruity peach-apricot scent and a nice texture. It absorbs well into my dry parched and dehydrated winter skin. I live in western Canada and recently, our weather has been dry and very cold. Although the product is very moisturizing, I do find that I need to reapply during the day to have lasting moisture. I purchased this item right before Christmas and paid $36 for 800 ml instead of the 400 ml size. There are a number of excellent body moisturizers out on the market for much less $, especially if you're slathering it on. Although the scent is captivating, the fragrance does not linger on the skin after application. I would probably not repurchase given the number of great body moisturizers on the market.
