Shampoo -L'Oreal - Vive Pro Color Vive for regular hair

I don't know *what* is in this stuff, but it is breaking my skin out like nothing else. The sides of my face have been broken out consistently since using this (over 5 weeks) and I haven't changed anything else in my routine. I'm switching for now to see if it makes a difference but I'm pretty sure this stuff is up to no good.

Moisturizers -Neostrata - Daytime Smoothing Cream SPF 15 Normal-Combination Skin
rated 5 of 5
Canadiana 11/1/2005 8:02:00 PM

This moisturizer contains 8% glycolic acid and it is the perfect exfoliating moisturizer for skin like mine (combination-oily, with oily t-zone). I use it every morning. You only need a tiny bit to cover your face. I let it absorb for a few minutes, then my skin literally sloughs off. I just rub gently to get all the skin off. This has left my skin clear and glowing for the past month. It is quite expensive but it is worth the money. It's annoying to have to dip your fingers into the jar but it is a small inconvenience. I have tried the version without SPF and for some reason it stings my skin terribly. But this one does not and I can't figure out why one and not the other.

I use this in conjunction with the following: Neutrogena extra gentle cleanser and the 2.5% BP gel from acne.org, every morning. At night, I do not use moisturizer after I apply the BP gel. My skin has been very clear and I have no had a serious breakout in a few months. It's worth a sample, at least.

Mascara -Yves Saint Laurent - Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils
rated 3 of 5
Canadiana 7/17/2005 9:34:00 AM

On my quest for the perfect mascara, it kills me to say that I won't buy this one again. It kills me because this mascara is amazing. Inky black, it gives volume and dramatic length like nothing else (and I go for long, dramatic lashes). The brush is the perfect size and separates lashes beautifully.

So why only 3 lipsticks and why wouldn't I buy it again? This mascara is VERY heavily scented. It smells like dead roses and not in a good way. I can smell it the entire day I'm wearing it and it gives me a headache. Why on earth do we need scented eyelashes?? The scent also irritates my eyes to the point where it's not even worth wearing. Further, the price of this is outrageous ($40 CDN). I wouldn't normally mind paying for a quality product but the scent of this knocks this mascara way down the list for me. Unnecessary and irritating; not worth it when I can achieve the same general effect with Lancome Hypnose - without the scent. If this mascara was available unscented, I would buy it in a heartbeat. Shame.

Moisturizers -Prescriptives - All You Need + Broad Spectrum Oil Absorbing Lotion SPF15
rated 5 of 5
Canadiana 7/17/2005 9:20:00 AM

It kills me to say how much I love this moisturizer when it costs me $54 CDN. That said, it's probably the best moisturizer I have ever used on my combination-oily/breakout prone skin. It's light and comes in a pump dispenser that dispenses the perfect amount to cover your whole face. It's a light green colour which is really unnecessary but hasn't proven to be irritating to my skin. It has oil-absorbing properties which make it perfect for someone with oily skin. Note: if you are not oily on at least some parts of your face, this moisturizer won't do much for you. It is VERY light, to the point where I sometimes need to apply more to my cheeks or other "normal" parts of my skin.

Most importantly, this stuff has broad spectrum sunscreen AND has never broken me out once from using it. You can find winners and losers in all skincare lines but this one is truly Prescriptives' gem. I'll continue to buy it, even though the price is a bit outrageous, because it's that good.

Conditioner -A/G - daily light
rated 5 of 5
Canadiana 7/3/2005 11:36:00 AM

This is an excellent daily conditioner that has left my thick, wavy, colour-treated hair in great condition. I use it with the TechTwo shampoo for colour-treated hair. It can be quite expensive, so look for it at beauty supply stores where they often sell the two products in one litre bottles at a lower price.

Hair -A/G - Varnish
rated 4 of 5
Canadiana 7/3/2005 11:33:00 AM

This product comes in two forms: 1. your basic shine serum which your pour into your hands and apply; and 2. a spray version, where you spray the product directly onto your hair. This review is for the spray version. It is an excellent, light serum that gives fabulous, glassy shine. It also smells like Kool-Aid, if that's your thing, but thankfully the scent does not last.

It is very easy to over apply this product, getting trigger happy with the spray, resulting in greasy, weighed-down hair. The key is to spray far enough away from the hair and to apply sparingly.

Shampoo -A/G - Tech Two
rated 4 of 5
Canadiana 7/3/2005 11:24:00 AM

This is a wonderful shampoo for colour-treated hair; the best I have tried so far. I'm not a fan of the pineapple-tropical scent but thankfully it doesn't last. Combined with the daily light conditioner, this has kept my thick, wavy, colour-treated hair in great condition.

It is quite expensive, so look for it at beauty supply stores where they often sell the shampoo and conditioner in one litre bottles that come in a package together. Alternatively, check out the line at: http://www.aghaircare.com to see where you can buy it.

Conditioner -A/G - fastfood
rated 5 of 5
Canadiana 5/8/2005 11:07:00 AM

I LOVE this product. I use it almost every day whenever I flat iron my hair. I apply it to damp hair, blow dry then flat iron. It keeps my hair soft, silky and healthy-looking. It's decently priced, too. I have very long hair, about bra-length, and I've been using the same bottle for six months; still not finished. Great value.

Styling Products -A/G - Recoil Curl Activator
rated 5 of 5
Canadiana 5/8/2005 11:05:00 AM

I really like this stuff! I have naturally wavy hair that I usually flat iron straight. When I feel like wearing my hair wavy I apply this curling cream to damp hair and scrunch it dry. Sometimes I'll use a diffuser but it's not necessary. I get great curl/wave definition that is not too crunchy. This stuff is better than TIGI Curls Rock, IMO, but it's the same type of product. This is also miles better than Aveda Be Curly (which left a waxy film on my hair) and BTZ Noodle Head (just not that great).

The one downside would be the smell. It's rather plasticky and gross; wish they'd used the same smell as the Fast Food leave-in conditioner. Thankfully the smell doesn't last.

Mascara -Prescriptives - False Eyelashes Mascara
rated 2 of 5
Canadiana 3/30/2005 11:14:00 AM

Wow, this stuff sucks. For $30 CDN I was expecting a little more. It is impossible to get any length with this stuff and the black colour is not very dark at all. It also doesn't hold a curl and makes lashes stick straight out. "False eyelashes" I think not.

The tube, while fun and ergonomically designed, dries out very quickly. Hugely disappointing. I will be returning this today and going back to Lancome Hypnose.

Eyeliner -MAC - Fluidline Eye-Liner Gel in Blacktrack
rated 5 of 5
Canadiana 2/17/2005 11:57:00 PM

MAC's inevitable answer to Stila smudge pots and Bobbi Brown gel liner; and it was worth waiting for. This is a creamy gel liner that comes in a tiny glass pot. I applied it with my MAC 266 brush (although it appears they are selling a tinier brush with it, if you prefer) and it applies like a dream. Smooth, even and takes a few seconds to try so you have some time to play with it, i.e. if you wanted to wing it out at the sides, or smudge.

This colour is matte black, which is perfect for every day and for glamming up at night. It's also waterproof and smudge-proof; what else could you want? This is really a no-brainer eyeliner and I could see this replacing my shadow liners very easily. Nice one, MAC!

Blush -Guerlain - Divinora Bubble Blush - Rose Chamallow 60
rated 4 of 5
Canadiana 10/11/2004 8:16:00 PM

I picked this up on a whim this weekend, as I normally wouldn't pay anywhere near $34 for blush. But holy smokes, this stuff is fantastic. It has that lovely mousse-like texture and applies easily and evenly to your skin. It is not greasy nor flaky and gives the most lovely flush.

This colour in particular is a very bright, flushed pink with no shimmer or glitter. It's perfect for this time of year for that wind-blown look. I really like the way it looks with my dark hair. Overall, this is a fantastic product but I've had to take off one lipstick for the price. I can do without the tacky gold-foil glass container in exchange for a cheaper price.

Styling Products -Matrix - Sleek.look Lite Smoothing Cream
rated 5 of 5
Canadiana 8/7/2004 1:18:00 PM

Gotta agree with fairy_queen here. I cannot believe the bad reviews for this product. THis stuff is hands down the best product I have ever used on my thick wavy hair. It gets it bone straight after I blow dry and flat iron, and does a decent job of holding up in humidity. I really am shocked at the bad reviews, but for me this stuff is now a HG and I will never go back!

I use it with a little bit of Biosilk, then blow dry and flat iron. Afterwards I use Matrix water-free hairspray it keep it all in place and I'm good to go all day.

Styling Products -Beyond The Zone - Beach Head Texture Spray
rated 1 of 5
Canadiana 7/4/2004 11:51:00 AM

If you're a fan of BTZ products like myself, you might be sorely disappointed with this product. With so many great products, how did this happen? This stuff is terrible. It smells awful, a horribly fake overpowering baby powder scent; on a beach spray?

This tangles my wavy hair and makes it greasier than anything else I've ever used. Save your money and try the John Frieda beach spray instead; far better investment. BTZ, I expected better of you.
