Misc Beauty Tools -Clarisonic - Mia

Update #28 day of using clarisonic (x1 a day): I've decided to set aside my clarisonic indefinitely. It really pains me to do so as I was really expecting it to work on my skin :(.... But the dark spots left behind from the purge are still around.. Coupled with the more frequent clogged pores I see on the sides of my cheeks, just makes me wanna cry.. Perhaps it's a vicious cycle in which i use clarisonic to remove my thick make up which I use to cover my dark spots... And the clarisonic breaks me out again.. And I get more dark spots and the cycle repeats... I have decided to stop using clarisonic till my dark spots fades.. I'm using nadinola now and will try maxi peel to fad the marks as well... But till then, adios clarisonic... It's bee terrible knowing you.. You gave me the WORST out break in my life.. I wasn't even acne prone before this!! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Update - #14 day of usng Clarisonic (once a day): Just a little update on how this purging nightmare has progressed... The cystic pimples in both sides of my cheeks finally died down.. But because I have a skin picking addiction, those bumps have left quite a handful of flat, red/grey marks in my cheeks.. But at least those annoying cystic pimples are gone.. For the past 3 days, I had whitehead pimples surfacing instead... No biggie, I treated them with a layer of LRP effaclar K or Dermalogica's medibac overnight clearing gel and the tiny bumps were down the next morning.. So now that my condition is a little more Under control, I reflected on my first 6 days of mia usage to look not the cause if my ridiculous outbreak... I concluded that the combination of mia (physical exfoliation) and AHA 8% ( chemical) daily was too much for my skin to take.... I was also new to applying 8% AHA at that time... Moral of the story: pls, when you're using clarisonic, don't go all crazy and introduce all kinds of new products to your regime... Stick to your usual regime so it's easier to single out the reason of your outbreak... My daily process is now this and my skin's handling it well: day: Just washing my face with good old cetaphil.... No clarisonic Night: -cleanse once to remove makep using an oil cleanser -clarisonic my face with cetaphil -apply lightweight moisturiser -apply layer of effaclar K - to the pesky areas where i think zits might be forming, apply a layer of medibac - spot treat scars with ZA true white cream (the only lightening cream that works in my skin and it's cheap) **note: I only use clarisonic at night to remove my makeup... I'm wearing a thicker layer of makeup now to conceal scars.. On Sundays, I give my clarisonic a rest.. I've chosen instead to mix my AHA 8% with my moisturiser... AHA is crucial to the process of fading those scars.. Will update again in 2 weeks' time.. Keeping my fingers crossed that THIS IS the end of purging period.. BTW, I found this out too late but it's been really useful to the last few cystic bumps I had... APPLY SUDOCREM ON IT TO BRING IT TO HEAD....works wonders!!!!!! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- #6 day of using Clarisonic (once a day): Will update again IF AND when the purging subsides.... Just got my hands on the Mia 1 week ago.. was really excited about using it.. I would follow this process: -Use an oil cleanser (Shu Uemura) to remove make up -Apply a layer of cetephil on my face -Wash mia brush gently with body soap -Use Mia to clean my face for 1 minutes.. sometimes I'll go slightly beyond the one minute.. (with the default sensitive head brush that came along with it) -Apply Paula's Choice 8% AHA Gel -Terproline moisturiser I did this once a day at night for the past 7 days.. on the 7th day, THE HORRORS WHEN I WOKE UP THE NEXT MORNING!!! Bumps and pimples on both sides of my cheeks!! The only thing I forgot to slap on my face the night before was the AHA gel.. Some of the questions running through my head now are: -Am I over-exfoliating? Is the combination of clarisonic and AHA gel too potent? I have since cut down my usage of mia to twice a week.. and NEVER exceeding the 1 minute this time.. but I'm still applying AHA gel every night... I'm cursing myself for forgetting to slap on the AHA gel as perhaps skipping that one step was crucial in keeping the purging at bay???? -I have cleaned my brush head once with hydrogen peroxide and warm water... perhaps I should be doing it more often? My brush head does not look dirty or discoloured though. The pimples on my cheeks are mostly small bumps, but still visible under makeup... there's no way to hide bumps.. also, I had a 3 cystic pimples on my jaw line but they have gone away quite quickly as well.. 2 days max. It's so depressing because I was expecting so much from Mia.. and when my face became a pizza face I started reading up more about the purging phase.. I'm just hoping that the worst of the purge is over :s To help calm my skin (perhaps from over-exfoliation??? I have no clue), I have resorted to applying a thick layer of MANUKA honey mask (15+) on my skin everyday for 15 minutes... I've only done it the past 2 days and so far it seems to calm those annoying zits..

Primer/ Corrector -Sephora - Smoothing & Mattifying

Another primer which made me break out! It does give a nice canvas when applying it to your face.. My makeup lasts considerably longer with it as well.. But because it made me break out, I will only use it as an eye primer and not repurchase this when I'm done with this bottle!

Primer/ Corrector -Bourjois - Flower Perfection translucent smoothing primer
Breadyyy 3/8/2013 10:29:00 AM
I used this primer once and never want to touch it again... To be fair, smoothing it on your face does create a very smooth canvas for slapping on the rest of your make up... BUT this primer made me break out.. I don't have acne-prone skin- only slightly oily.. It also has no oil control whatsoever.. I'm guessing the thick consistency of this primer is really clogging.. My skin felt suffocated! Also the primer comes in a jar which is unhygienic.. This might have contributed to my break-outs as well!

Cleansers -Shu Uemura - Cleansing Beauty Oil Premium A/O
Breadyyy 3/7/2013 6:03:00 AM
I use the yellow version.. Why bother having 2 make up removers - one for the eyes and one for the face - when you can have an all-in-one make up remover like this??? Because of my oily skin, I tend to use gel eyeliners which won't budge all day (essence brand from Germany).. Using this to remove my eye make up thereafter is a God sent!!! It removes all traces of my make up! You only need a few pumps to cleanse your entire face, and no cotton pad is needed! It's a little pricey for a makeup cleanser but one 450ml bottle lasts me for 6 months which amounts to about 10GBP/month.. I consider it money well spent and maximum efficiency ;)

Moisturizers -Za - True White Night Cream

This cream is awesome not as a night cream, but as a spot cream in lightening blemish scars! It tends to be a little drying when used on its own so always pair it with some moisturizing lotion.. I have used products like murad's lightening gel, hazeline white snow, but always find myself returning to this cream! I might consider trying Estée Lauder's ANR serum, but till then, I'm relying on this cream to fade my scars!

Masks -Murad - Pomegranate Exfoliating Mask

This treatment is AMAZING!!! I have used it only once but it has already shown results!! I'm current;y having some blemishes that are taking quite some time to go away.. Using this mask once has "softened" the dried up area around the blemish and has made it lighter as well! Also, my face used to be an oil slick by mid day but ever since I used this mask last night, my face has been under control. I also agree with other users that my complexion seems to have brightened up a fair bit. This mask is not expensive at all. I bought it off lookfantastic.com for 11.65 pounds for 6 sachets. Each sachet is good for 3 uses. This amounts to 0.70gbp for each use. Not at all expensive for something so fanastic! However, I do agree that the packaging could be a little more user-friendly. Nevertheless, leaving on this mask for 15 minutes is so soothing to my skin! I didn't get a sharp stinging sensation. Instead, it was a nice cooling and tingling sensation which I can only imagine it to be working on my blemishes. 5 lippies for sure!!!

Skincare - Face -Unlisted Brand - Jojoba Oil
Breadyyy 6/7/2012 9:35:00 AM
I bought the Dessert Essence brand and have been using it for the past one week. The oil gets absorbed into the skin pretty fast! I use it at night, mixing 2 to 3 drops with my usual moisturiser. I wake up the next morning with my skin still feeling moisturised, supple and yet not oily! I have tried applying just the oil alone, without my usual moisturiser, but I find my face looking a little too slimy, so I would suggest mixing it with your usual moisturiser - I'm using Dermalogica's Active Moist. I have combination face with oily T-zone. More importantly, this mixture has not given me a single outbreak/zit! I have not tried using this as my day time moisturiser- I have read that applying it to your face before putting up make up helps your make up stay on longer. I will try it the next time and feedback again! EDIT: perhaps this is not the best moisturiser for humid climate...

Treatments -La Roche Posay - Effaclar K
Breadyyy 5/21/2012 6:04:00 AM
Excellent product!!! Used it for only one night and immediately saw the results the next morning! I did not wake up to oily skin; the bumps on my face seem to have flattened over night; redness have disappeared. It is a wonderful product for how it can keep pimples at bay, and yet not dry out your skin! When applied, it also has a slight tingling session which I feel really good about. I picture it to be zapping my zits overnight. The only thing might be that it flakes a little.
