Lipstick -Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics - Lip Tar
rated 5 of 5
Bratt_the_Catt 10/31/2011 12:03:00 PM

I've rated this an overall 5 based on longevity of wear, ease of application, range of colour choices, extreme pigmentation and high quality in all of the shades I've tried and the amount you get per package. I gave it a 1 on price, because you only need literally half of a pin head sized blob. Do NOT squeeze this; the tubes are almost self-dispensing! If you squeeze, you will get enough to cover your whole body ten times. I'm serious. When I say pin head, I mean a simple straight pin, like the kind you'd find on a brand new mens dress shirt, NOT a quilting pin, or a fancier sewing pin. The amount you use is crucial. I've used Stalker, Anime and Hoochie at least once or twice a week since November 2010 and they barely look used. It's Oct 31 2011 right now. Moving on.. The only place I've rated this poorly is packaging quality. I gave it a 2. As I mentioned before, these come very full of product and are almost self-dispensing. The first time I opened one, even though I was being gentle, I accidentally held it too tightly and 1/4th of the tube ended up on my hand. Luckily, it was Tarred, the black and the amount left in the tube is enough for the rest of my life still. Remember, these are so full of pigment that you only need a tiny bit. So. I would buy this product again, but I doubt I will have to for several years. After a few months, some of my tubes have cracked near the lid, so I transferred them into the containers available at occmakeup.com and those seem to be holding up better. I am a daytime red lipstick wearer and Stalker has quickly become my all time favorite. It is an intense blue-based red that is unusually bright (as far as reds go). These smell a bit pepperminty upon application but the scent goes away fairly quickly. I always use balm underneath and either Revlon Colorstay clear lipliner or UD Ozone (clear liner) on the outside of my lips so this doesn't move. have used the lip tars alone, without liner and they do bleed a TINY bit. This is how I usually apply: Line around my lips with liner. I don't actually touch the liner to my actual lips, but just on the outside of them. Since I am using clear, this only results in a perfectly even barrier for the lip tars to stay inside. apply lipbalm. Open Lip Tar. DO NOT SQUEEZE. Place a TINY dot onto a lip brush. CLOSE the Lip Tar. This may seem obvious, but unfortunately with this packaging, it isn't. If you don't close it, it'll leak all over you. I like Urban Decay's old brush (it flips and isn't retractable) because it's small and precise. I dot it onto my bottom lip with the brush. Then I carefully paint the inner part of my whole bottom lip, press my lips together and continue moving the pigment onto my upper lips. Only after I've gotten the middle of my lips done will I move onto the edges. These are super pigmented, so precise application is 100% necessary. I have heard some ppl say they use two layers, but I haven't found that to be necessary. I usually leave my mouth open for a minute or so to make sure the colour has dried completely and "set," but you could blot at this point and get on with your day. Once I've applied this, I can eat and drink, probably smoke (if I still smoked) all day and not have to reapply. Occasionally, if I've eaten something totally greasy, I'll do a TINY touch up on the inside of my bottom lip. For this, I usually just use what's left on my brush from the morning's application, as any more would be unnecessary. If you have dryness at all, this product probably isn't for you, at least until you whip your lips back into shape! You must have moisturized lips because this dries to a very opaque, satiny finish, not a matte one (these don't even come close to how horribly drying MACs matte lipsticks feel) This feels like nothing, when you've applied it right. If my lips are moisturized well, I'll skip the balm that day and this stays on much better. Personally, I'd rather feel balmy lips and have to do one touch up in a 10 hour day than not. I know this is a super long review, but a lot of ppl have mentioned on the boards that these bleed or feather on them. They are using WAY too much. Seriously, I cannot stress the little bit you need enough. These NEVER feather on me, they don't bleed, they're not too drying (I'm a lipbalm freak though, and always have some on hand) and the colour choices are awesome. OH! This is a VEGAN product! That ALONE should make you want to run out and buy it. It is SO hard to find vegan stuff that is really pigmented, so that makes this even more amazing. I LOVE LIP TARS!!! I'll review the other colours I have and update with comparison photos too. Thanks for reading and I hope this is helpful! :) ETA. From the OCC Website, re colour separation: "This is completely normal and due only to the unprecedented amount of pigment we use in our product. To get the pigment back into suspension, simply alternate the way the Lip Tar™ tube is stored it (i.e. cap side up, versus cap side down, on its front or on its back). You will find that the Lip Tar goes quickly back into suspension. Preventing this from happening on our end would mean reducing the pigment load itself, which is a change we're sure our customers wouldn't want to see happen!" Just thought I'd mention it, since I noticed it happened with mine too.

Eyeliner -NYX - Grow Lash Serum Liner in Jet Black
rated 5 of 5
Bratt_the_Catt 7/5/2011 11:06:00 PM

I've used this every day for about a month and I have to say.. this is everything I've ever looked for in a liner. It's super black, SO EASY to apply (I can get THE thinnest line ever!!), totally waterproof, sweatproof, smudgeproof etc. I don't know if it's making my lashes grow and to be totally honest I don't even care. I wish I had bought like, 3 of these when NYX had their sale. They retail for $13 but I would happily pay more. Amazing. I've showered with this on and it stays 99% perfect. I sweated my face off and sweet. sweat. sweated. how the hell do you spell that? Anyway.... part of it came off when I rubbed my sweaty eye, but the other eye that I didn't touch looked perfect when I dried off. I love this stuff..

Eye Makeup Remover -Wet 'n' Wild - eye make-up remover
rated 1 of 5
Bratt_the_Catt 5/18/2011 1:44:00 PM

If it were possible to give this a ZERO I would. I bought this specifically for the WnW H20 proof liner (which I am also tossing because it takes literally days to remove completely) thinking that the company who makes it would have an effective way to remove it as well. Wrong. It didn't even budge the H20 proof liner, and only after some scrubbing did it remove the rest of my makeup. It burned so badly I had to rinse out my eyes with water. It doesn't work to remove waterproof makeup. This has to be the worst product ever made. It even stings my SKIN. On top of the fact that it doesn't work well, and the sting, it also it smells horrible like saccharin fake flowers and candy. Awful. I only paid two dollars for it, but it was a waste of two dollars. Hate this stuff. I cannot believe this has two lipsticks.

Lipstick -Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics - Lip Tar - Tarred
rated 5 of 5
Bratt_the_Catt 3/30/2011 5:15:00 PM

Just a warning to those reading these older reviews. OCC started out with only two lipbalms, one of which was this black one, Tarred. It was a sheer balm that was meant to darken any lipstick. They've reformulated them and this is no longer sheer by any stretch of the word. Tarred is an extremely opaque lip product that can be used alone, but is mostly used to mix with other lip tars to darken them. For more info on the lip tars, please check out my in-depth reviews on Anime and Stalker.

Three of my tubes have cracked at the lid. OCC exchanged 2, but I had to replace the last. I've put them in 1/4oz bottles from the OCC website and they seem much sturdier. I have some swatches here on MUA that should turn up if you do a board search. They're also in my profile if it helps.

Eyes -Kryolan - CEL Sealer/Cake Eye Liner Sealer
rated 5 of 5
Bratt_the_Catt 11/19/2010 3:06:00 PM

I bought this a few weeks ago at IMATS. I tested it on my hand early on the first day, and after multiple hand washings and swatches + remover, this line was still there. I bought a bottle for $6 CDN and used it the next day. Before I left I bought another bottle. Yesterday, I wore this with a piggie from Naked Cosmetics. I got fired and cried in the car and my makeup still looked perfect when I got home. I hope they never stop making this stuff. And it's vegan. woo!!

Makeup Brushes -Urban Decay - Lip Brush
rated 5 of 5
Bratt_the_Catt 6/23/2010 8:27:00 PM

I swapped for this, so can't comment on the price. I use this every time I wear dark or bright lipstick. It's perfect for getting a precise line because the bristles are packed tightly and flat. I've had this for about 3 years and use it at least twice a week, sometimes every day. I've never noticed any shedding. It has a cap that fits on the end of the brush to extend the handle. Very sturdy; I throw it in my purse every time I wear bright/dark lipstick and I've never had the cap come off either in my purse or while applying lipstick. It's vegan which just makes it even more awesome. This lipstick brush is perfect and I would definitely buy again if I lost it. UPDATE: It is 2011 and I still love this brush. Since getting some OCC Lip Tars, I am using it almost every day and it is holding up perfectly. I'm kindof sad to see that the newer version is retractable instead of reversible like this one but have not tried it.

Lipstick -Make Up For Ever - #205 Blue Red
rated 5 of 5
Bratt_the_Catt 6/10/2010 8:04:00 PM

True to the name, this is a true blue-based red. Finally! I love the colour, the shine, the wear. I apply with UD's lip brush, Merry Hempsters lipbalm underneath and Revlon CS clear liner around my lips. I can even eat my lunch and I don't have to touch it up. This picture was taken after waiting in the rain, in a line for 4 hours, eating twice and snacking almost the whole time. I've now had it for almost two months and I honestly don't know why I've even kept any other lipsticks. I can't see myself ever NOT loving this one! I gave it only a 3 for packaging quality because I hate how cheap the tube looks. The box is so classy but the tube is cheap plastic. I paid $19 plus tax in NY state. I have confirmed with MUFE that this particular product is vegan.

Highlighters -Physicians Formula - Virtual Face Powder in Highlighter
rated 5 of 5
Bratt_the_Catt 11/25/2009 10:07:00 AM

I LOVE THIS. It has finally replaced Benefit High Beam as my every day highlighter. Not glittery or greasy looking, not too fake looking, not silver, not overly pink, just perfect subtle highlighter. It's PERFECT for my cool/neutral PPP skin. LOVE THIS PRODUCT, HATE THE PACKAGING! I depotted and stuck it in a Smashbox container. Ahh much better. I can't tell if it's vegan so will write the company and find out. If it's not, I'll have to find something else exactly like it. Until then, I have two backups so I'll be fine for awhile.

Lipstick -Revlon - Colorstay LipColor-Ruby
rated 4 of 5
Bratt_the_Catt 11/25/2009 10:01:00 AM

Looks to be a true dupe to Avon Ripe, which has been my go-to red for a decade. Appears to be vegan. Lasts a long time, with a little wear in the center of my lips, probably could be drying, but I always use lipbalm before applying. The shape of the lipstick is great and easy to get a clean line, especially if you don't have time for liner. I love this and will definitely buy more. I'm pretty sure it's discontinued, but I hope to find some at the Christmas Tree Shops in MI the next time I head south.

Lip Liners -Revlon - Colorstay Lipliner in Clear #600 [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5

I have used this for years. Every time I wear lipstick, I line the outsides of my lips and it keeps the lipstick from feathering. It really works great with bright or dark colours. I know this is a crappy review, compared to some others, but I wanted to at least add my ratings.

Mascara -Kiss Me - Kiss Me Mascara
rated 4 of 5
Bratt_the_Catt 4/28/2009 11:48:00 AM

There is some confusion over the branding of this. I have only used BLINC Kiss Me and this is what my review is based on. I love this mascara. I got a sample tube at a beauty supply store. It was very small and lasted four applications. I probably could have squeezed another one out of it, but I was anxious to get a full size tube. It cost me a little over $19 Canadian at a beauty supply store. I have sensitive eyes, and am vegan. I need something without animal ingredients, that is totally waterproof and smudgeproof. I had been using GOSH's Looong Lash Mascara, and while it was "good enough" it wasn't the best. It smudged and flaked a little after about 5 hours of wear. THIS mascara doesn't smudge, doesn't flake, doesn't smear, doesn't irritate my eyes, and I can rub them without fear of screwing up my mascara. When applied correctly, it makes my lashes look much longer, and adds enough thickness for me. I love how black this is. A lot of black mascaras are a warm, light black. Not this one! It is a true, glossy, dark black. I'm not a huge fan of the brush, but if I use a lash comb before it dries, I can get rid of any clumps that may have appeared. This is definitely the best mascara I've ever used. I think it even beats out Maybelline Full n Soft, which I used for over a decade before going vegan nearly three years ago. It's super easy to remove, and I love looking at the little tubes in my fingers at night. I use warm water on a washcloth, or toilet paper, and then GENTLY pull the tubes off. I then use jojoba oil for the rest of my waterproof makeup. Love this stuff. I will re-assess the marks for packaging and overall rating after a month or so, but for now, a 5 overall and a 2 for packaging. I'm really excited to try the blue mascara, and will definitely re-purchase this when it's gone. To the gals who had trouble with lasting time and application; it helped me immensely to read all the tips and tricks BEFORE applying. The first time I put it on, it was extremely clumpy and flaked shortly after applying. It's nothing like the regular coating mascaras; there is a small learning curve to this. Give it another shot. If you read the tips and put them to use, once you get it right, I'm more than confidant you're going to love it. UPDATE. It's now been a month of using the full sized tube. I still love this and will definitely re-purchase. I wish I'd found this years ago. UPDATE. July 2009. Someone I love deeply died and I've cried more in the last two weeks than in my whole life combined. This mascara stayed on through it all, except for a few tubes on my cheeks after a two hour hysterical sob-fest in LA heat. Amazing. UPDATE. January 2011. I took my packaging rating down to a 2 (from a 3 before) because the last TWO tubes have snapped when I closed them. I'm not putting extra strength into my closing-mascara-efforts, so I don't think it's me. Not impressed. I will repurchase, but if it happens again, I'll have to look for another mascara. UPDATE: May 2011. The last two tubes I've gotten aren't as long wearing as the others I've used. I am now looking for another mascara, as this is no longer working for me. It doesn't flake, but if I rub my eyes it will loosen the tubes and they'll break off onto my face. Not impressed. :( I took my overall rating to a 4 because it's still better than other mascaras I've used. UPDATE: July 2011. I'm an idiot. I realized that I had been layering this over a non waterproof mascara and that's why it was tubing off on me. I started using this over a waterproof Revlon and it's working great again. I have not broken the tube either, though now that I mention it, I'm likely to. Either way, I'm still really liking this mascara and I take back my earlier comments about it starting to suck.

Lipstick -Revlon - Matte Lipstick- all shades (new for Winter '08)
rated 4 of 5
Bratt_the_Catt 2/5/2009 3:02:00 PM

These are 12.50 here in Canada, which is a bit pricey for a drugstore lipstick. I will repurchase though, because I have not found another truly matte lipstick like this. If I apply over lipbalm, I don't have any problem with dryness. It lasts a few hours without touching up, wears off evenly, and doesn't give me a Ring effect as it wears. The only colour I have so far is Wine Not. It's a vampy, dark winey reddish purple. Can be built up to a deep dark purple, or applied lightly for a more redder wine tone. I really like this. According to the ingredients, this appears to be vegan as well. I can't wait to try the other colours. EDIT: I now have Pink Pout and Really Red. I love the formula of these lipsticks. All can be applied lightly or layered for more drama. All seem to wear the same. I can't wait to see what colours they come out with as this line grows. I'd love a really super-cool toned red, and a light pinky nude, like MAC Blankety.

Blush -Physicians Formula - POwder Palette Multi-Colored Blush
rated 5 of 5
Bratt_the_Catt 12/2/2008 1:55:00 PM

I swapped for this and I'm so glad I did. I love this stuff. It has replaced my HG of many years (Benefit Dandelion) as my new favorite blush. This gives my PPP cool-neutral skin a natural healthy looking glow. It has the slightest bit of shimmer (only noticeable half an inch from the mirror) and is a perfect berry shade. A light swipe with a brush is enough for everyday, and colour is buildable if you need more intense colour. It lasts all day on me. Also, I have very dry skin. Most powder products dry it out even more, and I've not noticed ANY flaking or dryness due to this product. I hate the packaging. It is heavy, awkward and bulky. If I could put this perfect colour in a different container, I would. I wish it was vegan so I could re-purchase. I put yes because I would definitely swap for it again, but since it isn't vegan I will not re-buy.
