Moisturizers -Weleda - Skin Food
Alyne 7/17/2008 3:20:00 PM
More about me: Skin Type: Normal with some dry patches In MAC realm, I'm a NC30 - 35 Beauty Effort Level: Lazy- Easy I want the maximum amount of positive results with the least amount of time and effort put into it. Budget: 65% inexpensive, the other 35% is willing to shell out for something fun, new and will do it's job. Review: I am extremely surprised that this product got such high ratings. I think this is very sticky and does not soak into my skin. I put it on after washing my face thinking the the moisture would make it soak in better, but it didn't work. I wake up the next morning and my face is greasy/sticky and the product seems to be on the surface. I did buy the Weleda Everon Face Balm along with the Skinfood (it was Winter and my skin was very dry) and I like it more. The Everon, even though it is a balm and therefore even more greasy, seems to actually soak in to my skin. I can't wear either one of these during the day because my powder and whatever other makeup I put on my face will stick to the areas with the moisturizer and make my make up look streaky.

Eye Shadow -Wet 'n' Wild - Silk Finish Eye Shadow in "Cream" [DISCONTINUED]
Alyne 7/9/2008 10:17:00 PM
When I'm not sure a color or product will work on me, I purchase a inexpensive brand in a similar color to experiment with first. Wet n' Wild has been my tester brand many times now, but I've come to realize that WNW is just as good as the more expensive, better packaged brand. Here's a case of, "I shouldn't be lured by the packaging." I've been looking for a bright light frost for highlighting and liked Cream but I thought I could do better. So I just purchased Phloof! from MAC and did a side by side comparison with Cream and they are comparable. The MAC color is more fine in texture and is very slightly more frosty looking. The WNW one looks light yellow in the container and the Phloof! looks pinky toned, but when applied they almost look the same on me. The WNW was on sale for $.99 and the MAC was $14.50.

Eye Shadow -Aveda - Petal Essence- Triple Accent - Pink Hematite/Clematis
Alyne 7/6/2008 3:38:00 AM
I love Aveda's hair and face cleansers but I did not like or was able to make this product work. This is supposed to be a triple use pencil. One end is the Pink Hematite fat eye pencil that is light pink and the other end is the Clematis, a beautiful deep shimmery wine/plum, that is supposed to be dual purpose for lips and cheeks. This fails on all three counts. The eye pencil creases very badly, yes I used a primer and the lip/cheek end feathers/runs/smears on the lips and is impossible to use as a cheek product because it doesn't blend out from the line you've drawn. No wonder the sales person told me they were coming out with an incredible NEW line of makeup soon. It is a $18 waste. I want to support the more natural companies but it also has to look good.

Eye Shadow -Revlon - Make A Sheen Lustrous Shadow Trio - Espress'o Yourself
Alyne 7/6/2008 3:18:00 AM
The shadows are shimmery without being too glittery. The only reason I don't give this a 5 is because I find the two darker shades to be hard to blend. And, even though I like this trio, I don't feel excited about it. I don't like all the new products that are coming out with a pattern made with the shadows themselves. I like my shadows all in their seperate little slots. I find this type of packaging, gimmicky and of the moment, but I hope it will fade away soon.

Eye Shadow -Wet 'n' Wild - Mega Eyes Trio - Amazon Greens [DISCONTINUED]
Alyne 7/6/2008 3:12:00 AM
Yes, I still love Wet n' Wild. I remember buying their really wild bright lipsticks when I was a teenager and I still love this brand now in my 30's. The colors in this trio are beautiful! They all leave a fantastic metallic shimmer without the glitter. They blend well and I love the mirror that slides out the side. I love all the brands compacts. Their logo is ugly but the compacts have fun ways to get to the mirror.

Primer/ Corrector -Cle de Peau - Refining Corrector for Lines
Alyne 7/6/2008 3:04:00 AM
As a line corrector, I find that it fails. It's supposed to defuse light to draw attention away from the shadows that your lines cast but I think it just leaves a whitish sheen on my face that's a bit greasy looking and sticky. I use it as an eye shadow primer and it's great for that.

Eye Shadow -Victoria's Secret - Very Sexy Liquid Shadow in Pillow Talk
Alyne 7/4/2008 10:54:00 PM
Very pretty and soft color once it dries, even with 2-3 coats. Not the bright gold color that you see in the package. Use a primer or it will crease. It still may crease if you have deeply lined eyes. 8 hour test: needed to reapply 1/2 way through the day to renew the look.

Eye Shadow -Milani - Runway Eyes- Beach Sand
Alyne 7/4/2008 10:49:00 PM
Glitter, glitter, glitter! Not shimmer, glitter! Big glitter! I gave this a 3 rating even though I won't buy it again because it's a good product. It is what it says it is. I thought I could bring it down a notch, I don't know why, and use it just as a bit of light on my lids but it can't be tamed. As the reviewers said before me, the biggest boldest shimmer is only on top. I wiped away that layer with a tissue but I found it was still too glittery for me. I also have 2 of the smaller single shadows in Ice Blue and Java Bean and they are glittery too. Even though they don't look it in the pan. I wore the Java Bean sparingly and when I checked my makeup after 6 hours, my whole face down to my jaw line had glitter sprinkled on it. If you want a dramatic intense eye shadow that will stay in place, try "Makeup Forever's "Star Powders". it cost 3 x as much but it feels finer and is super shimmery.

Eyeliner -Aveda - Eyeliner
Alyne 7/4/2008 10:37:00 PM
This is a review for the Petal Essence line, eye liner in 920 Black Orchid. Eye Definer? How about eye smearer. It is soft and deep black and easy to apply but it smears badly. Maybe it's more like it runs. I have raccoon eyes practically right after I put this on. I've tried blending it out, to pre- smear it and I've tried sealing it with a shadow but it just doesn't work for me. It's back to hard liners and a lighter.

Mascara -Revlon - Luxurious Lengths
Alyne 7/4/2008 10:28:00 PM
This works for me. I have very, very hooded eyelids, where my lids sit on my lashes, unless I get scared :) and this does not smudge off onto them. This makes my lashes long, not too thick and they do not feel hard. I aim for a natural but enhanced look. I have it in blackest black and it is not waterproof.

Highlighters -Milani - Glimmer Stripes in Pink Glimmer
Alyne 7/4/2008 10:17:00 PM
I've used this for 2 months now and I like it. You have to be very light handed when using it. You can look un-naturally shimmery and greasy/glossy. I would not use it all-over as the packaging says. I use it on the apples of my cheeks and a little swept up on the top of my cheekbones with a matte blush in the hollow. I sweep my brush over the four darker colors and they all blend together. The white-ish color has a pink/purple iridescent that I don't like on my cheeks. It's a good eye shadow too.

Powder -MAC - Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation
Alyne 7/4/2008 10:05:00 PM
Love it! I like looking very natural, just better and I've been looking for a powder or TM or foundation to do that for years. I never thought MAC would be the place to find it. I always equated MAC with heavy, Kabuki face makeup, but it really is, all in the application. Use very sparingly and use a brush that isn't densely packed. 8 Hour Test: slightly worn away in high rub zones. Nose and mouth. My bad.

Scrubs -Origins - Modern Friction
Alyne 6/3/2008 12:46:00 PM
I've finished the jar and this is not for me. It does work very well for exfoliating but it leaves my normal-sensitive skin red for over 24 hours no matter how gentle I use it. I've tried using it once a week to three times a week, I tried using it wetter, dryer, with light pressure, etc and it always left me red. I asked the rep. at their counter if it has S.Acid in it and she wasn't sure, but she thought it did. S. Acid is too strong for me. I haven't bothered looking the ingredients up because I won't buy it again. I can't go around looking like I've just been baked.

Eye Shadow -Make Up For Ever - Star Powder - 906 Turquoise
Alyne 4/25/2008 2:57:00 AM
Oh my golly, It is beautiful! It is a bright flashy turquoise. On my skin it looks like it has a bit of a yellow/gold undertone. not a duo color but just a warm undertone instead of a cool. I think it was $18.00 at Sephora. Il love Makeup Forever because they ave such fun colors.

Eye Shadow -Milani - Blue ice (#14)
Alyne 4/25/2008 2:48:00 AM
When I first rated this I gave it a five, but I've down graded to three because I find it very glittery and the glitter is large and will travel down you face throughout the day, all the way down to your jaw line. It is a great shadow for people that want a dramatic icy blue with glitter but not someone who wants a more subtle blue.
