Mascara -Dejavu (Imju) - Fiberwig Lash Knockout
Addytude 7/31/2008 11:41:00 PM
This mascara is fabulous for extreme length only. Two disappointingly components are that I find flaky fibers on my face throughout the day and the fibers tend to get in my eyes occasionally...so I will sadly have to return it mostly because once those fibers get in your eyes, good luck with trying to get them out...it took me several hours one time and it made my eye very red.

Lip Gloss -L'Oreal - HIP Jelly Balm [DISCONTINUED]
Addytude 7/29/2008 8:40:00 PM
The jelly balm feels fabulous on my lips. It's a thick glossy conditioning balm (which I adore) and not sticky at all. As I viewed the shades online I originally planned on buying "Plush" but once I got to the drugstore it was a very bright pink (I already own MAC's Fafi ((she's a French graffiti artist,)) lipgloss named "totally it" which screams bright pink 80's so I needed to pass on that shade since I already own it. Also MAC's lipglosses I find to be very sticky.) So, I purchased the shade "Succulent" -- WOW, I'm glad I did (note: I didn't find it to be sheer as some of the other MUA reviewers stated but I may be adding a thicker amount.) This is a subtle fuchsia color that once applied it truly revealed a nice little pout, please realize I'm not a big believer in lip plumper's. This color compliments my pale skin and red hair. I found I do have to reapply at least 3-4 times a day, generally though only after drinking my hot drinks (green tea) or eating, which I am perfectly fine with since it is only a lip gloss/balm. Also, I normally skip tubs and won't even buy them cause I hate dipping my finger in color because I usually don't have anything to wipe my finger on, but I gave this one a go and I'm thrilled that I did...HERE IS THE "AH OH" BONUS FOR ME, you know it is named "HIP high intensity pigments jelly balm" well to my pleasant surprise this color (not sure about the other shades) but this color actually leaves a light stain on my lips. OMG...I'm always on the hunt (no, seriously) for lip stains and sadly always disappointed because they either dry out my lips or really don't stain that well. Say "Hello DAHLINGS" to my new HG lip source that I will use most of the time (especially for a daytime look) and honestly I can't see applying this over lipstick, so I will keep this separate when I wear lipstick. I still can't believe this balm conditions, provides a great color and a stain ::sigh:: Oh, I must mention the smell, it is truly minor, it disappears quickly after it's applied and after a view days of using it you don't notice it at all cause you're busy admiring your nice glossy lips instead. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! P.S. A lot of reviewers mention MAC's tendertones which I've never used since it's a bit pricey and I'm trying to condense my impulse spending. I said trying, right?

Lipstick -Maybelline - Mineral Power Lipcolor ] [DISCONTINUED]
Addytude 7/24/2008 11:54:00 PM
The marketing for this lipstick had my attention when it stated "it overall conditions your lips up to 62%. The lipcolor contains both shea butter and jojoba oil to leave your lips smooth and supple" I'm a huge fan of anything that lists jojoba oil. So I picked up a tube at the local drugstore and I have to admit I'm loving it so far. Years ago MAC made a tinted "pinky" lip conditioner tube that I adored and of course they discontinued the tint tube and put them in tubs that requires me to use my fingers ::double yuck:: Alas, Mac is infamous for that (I'm not a MAC hater at all; I worship the gel eyeliners, I have several colors.) Anyhow back to the review, I chose Healthy Rose based on my skin tone and red hair. Anything pink draws in a ton compliments for me, so now that I'm older I gravitate towards those shades. I'm quite pleased with the color, plus the conditioning factor and the barely there feel. I also like that its a nice even color that is not really shear IMO and not overly a thick matte either which will have me pursing another color (maybe crushed mauve.) I haven't noticed much plumpness to my lips though. This one is a def re-purchase. EDIT** After a solid week of use, I have discovered it's not as moisturizing as it claims, although the color was a nice pink shade. I just couldn't deal with the grittiness and the slight peeling that occurred, I always seemed to have a little extra goop on my lips. RETURNED!!

Mascara -Maybelline - Full 'N Soft Mascara
Addytude 7/22/2008 11:22:00 PM
I bought the waterproof version several months back and was not impressed...Anyhoo, based on the MUA reviews I decided to finally buy the regular version and after a month of use, I'm writing my review. This is a decent quick swipe daytime/workday look. Additionally, I've played with it and it's buildable as well and it doesn't clump at all. Plus, it doesn't smudge my bottom lashes, I even find myself grabbing this mascara even when going for a more dramatic look at night with my other mascara's (I'm a mascara whore), I still tend to wanna swipe the bottom lashes with this mascara only. Again superb on workdays when I run behind. Oh, and, several people have commented on my lashes lately. Overall, I will repurchase Full &Soft as a staple for a variant of reasons.

Mascara -Christian Dior - DiorShow Mascara Waterproof
Addytude 7/12/2008 4:21:00 PM
Hmmm, I'm mystified...it's waterproof but it smudges, plus it flakes. I live in Florida and need a stable mascara. Drat. Return. It seems after some heavy researching/reviewing waterproof seems to smudge on about 80% of us. ::shakes head:: this is befuddling! I used DS Blackout in the past but had to add Bourjois Volume Clubbing on top to control flaking. I wanted to condense down and not buy 2 highend mascaras, I thought this mascara was the answer. Le sigh...

Mascara -Maybelline - Unstoppable Mascara [DISCONTINUED]
Addytude 4/23/2008 10:26:00 PM
This is unstoppable all right - it smears and smears. It didn't give me any length, and waterproof < HA. I originally went to the drugstore to buy "full and soft" just for my daytime/work look and decided to try this, ugh, what a waste of $$.

Skincare - Face -Unlisted Brand - Jojoba Oil
Addytude 4/12/2008 6:59:00 PM
Brilliant! This Jojoba oil came highly recommended from my cousin that is in the Esthetic's field. I have been using it for about 3 weeks and it is less greasy that Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Vaseline & Sesame oil, which I have tried all three and regrettably moved on and was just using some drugstore lotion until I found something better. Make sure to buy it in its purest form though...it's renowned for its hydrating and soothing effects on the skin, hair and scalp, this wax-like extract from the jojoba plant actually attracts moisture to help this desert plant survive long summer droughts. Applied straight from the bottle, it lightly coats the hair to seal moisture in and help soothe dry skin and scalp. I also use it once a week in the shower as a facial mask (wet my face, apply the oil, let it get steamy and then rinse off). I've noticed a lot people complain that they feel that they waste some of the oil because of the bottle it comes in and wish it was in a pump style. I just went out to my local Target and bought some cheap spray bottles and it is a lot less waste and you can apply it more evenly. THIS MY HG!

Eye Shadow -Bare Escentuals - Oz Glimmer
Addytude 4/12/2008 6:27:00 PM
I am happy to announce they are selling this color again -- I adore wearing it wet only. When I've applied it dry, the minerals get into my eyes and it makes them irritated. So wet is for me and it stays on for a looong time.

Fragrances -Stella McCartney - Stella Eau de Parfum Roll-On
Addytude 3/12/2008 11:44:00 PM
This is one of the few fragrances that I have purchased every time I run out, I normally move onto to something new in the market. I love that this is a roll-on and I carry it with me everywhere. I haven't in years been able to place perfume on my skin because it tended to smell musky a few hours later. So, when I purchased this scent for the first time, my plan was to just roll it onto my jeans and what not, however, one day when I was in a hurry I accidentally hit the skin around my neck, and to my astonishment it never turned musky on me. Woo hoo, finally, I can adorn perfume like a normal person again. So now when I wear this scent I roll it on to my wrists and neck, and sometimes even between my cleavage on a night out with the hubby. This is a wondrous unique, sensual, intense, but, oh so feminine smell. Please don't let the the rose and amber ingredient discourage you to try it at least once, you won't regret it. Plus, the roll-on is fairly cheap and we all know most of Stella McCartney's stuff is not. Additionally, my husband seems to adore the scent and he usually complains that all my perfume it to heavy only after 2 squirts, so that was a bonus for me!!! I feel I will never tire of this fragrance.

Mascara -Christian Dior - Diorshow Black Out Mascara
Addytude 3/10/2008 3:09:00 PM
Bloody Brilliant!!! Loving this mascara, it's the closest to a falsie look that I have ever gotten out of a mascara and it lasted 8+ hours the other night while out dancing and it's the blackest black on me. It does produce flakes that I'm willing to live with for the "wow-wee" pleasure it gives me. Although, I've found a way to minimize the flakes -- I swipe Bourjois Volume Clubbing mascara on the tips since they claim it is sweatproof, etc (great for dancing, eh girls?)...this component has worked out well for me (I notice maybe 5 small flakes the whole entire time - worth it to me). I especially wanted to add that extra Bourjois VC step since I live in Florida and the sweltering heat is on the horizon for us soon. This is an absolute repurchase!! I've also come to the conclusion that not everyone's eyelashes are the same and not everyone wants the same exact results that I look for in a mascara. I say this for the reason that some say "oh this mascara is fabulous" and rightly so on them, but not necessarily something I adore. So my routine for this application is: Shiseido eyelash curler, currently not using my Shiseido mascara base only because this mascara along with the curler gives me the desired look I want (my lashes have a tendency to fall limp in some places and remain intact in other spots when I use other mascaras) and also it cuts down on the application steps however, I may try the base again and see if it gives an extra dramatic outcome or allows me not to use as much product (gotta save those $$ for more makeup) and lastly four swipes of mascara on each eye, using my Tweezerman Pro metal eyelash separator in between each swipe and allowing 20 seconds between each coat to reduce clumping. I am curious about the "original" DiorShow since the reviews are higher, but I am exceedingly content for now...crossing my fingers that doesn't change. Egads, I'm saying it again, this mascara is Bloody Brilliant!!!

Mascara -Yves Saint Laurent - Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils
Addytude 3/10/2008 12:56:00 PM
This mascara is better than most, however, I will prolly only use it during the day. It does not give me the va-va-voom that I was looking for. Although it lengthens and thickens enough and it certainly does not smudge or flake at all. I'm on the fence if I will repurchase based on the cost and the non-wow factor that I'm not getting. I like my lashes to be dramatic regardless of time of day...will update after I use this with my new Shiseido eyelash curler. Plus they don't sell this mascara locally so I also have to order online and pay $27 plus S&H, can't decide if I want to do that again!

Mascara -Shiseido - The Makeup Mascara Base [DISCONTINUED]
Addytude 3/10/2008 12:42:00 PM
I see a slight difference when using this base. It does grab the little hairs as promised, however, I continue to have lashes that overlap and are uneven and that was my whole purpose of buying the base to hopefully fix that (and yes, I use an eyelash curler before applying the base). This is my 2nd mascara base I have tried, the first one was by Lancome and it was way to stiff and didn't do anything for the overlap and unevenness. Now then, I have recently switched and bought the Shiseido eyelash curler, I was using the Shu Uemura brand (but it pinched my lids to often so I exchanged it). So far, the Shiseido eyelash curler is wonderful, my lashes are even now & no overlapping either to boot. They don't pinch my lids at all, plus it seems to grab more of my lashes and fits my eye socket like it was custom made for me....so I will give the mascara base another try and see how it goes. I'm on the fence if I will repurchase though because I recently purchased DiorShow black out mascara the other day and all I used was the Shiseido eyelash curler and the mascara and no overlap or unevenness emerged after 6+ hours. Will write an update soon...

Mascara -Bourjois - Volume Clubbing
Addytude 3/8/2008 1:38:00 AM
I am with "MsLips" on this one (the reviewer below me). You have to use it correctly and you won't have any clumps, and the thickening is amazing. It's description of it being sweat proof, tear proof, and friction proof that will last on the dance floor as long as you do is what intrigued me. Plus, I live in Florida and the heat is sweltering and I wanted a thick mascara that would hold up and this one is working so far. I plan to use this one mostly when I am outside for long durations. I seem to also have a tendency to always use 2 different mascaras on my lashes at the same time. At the moment the volume clubbing has been the last step I'm applying when I use either "Yves Saint Laurent, Volume Effet Faux Cils" or "Christian Dior, Diorshow Black Out Mascara" because I want to take advantage of the sweat proof feature. I use these 3 brands depending on the event or my mood because they all have different appeals to me. Can you tell I am little indecisive when it comes to mascara or aka "a mascara whore"? (I have purchased 9 different types since January, and it's all because most of the them have not been THE ONE!) Luckily though, these 3 I am extremely pleased with for now...I removed one lippie for the reason that I was told that Sephora is not going to carry Bourjois much longer and I've noticed eBay has a slim selection if you live in the US. Now then, if we lived in Europe we would have access to this brand very easily...I always seem to want to find an excuse to move to Europe (HA!)

Misc Beauty Tools -Shiseido - Eyelash Curler
Addytude 3/8/2008 12:47:00 AM
I used this curler for the first time today and I usually wait to write up my reviews. However, I had to share with everyone how impressed I am with how evenly it curls my lashes and doesn't pinch the skin at all. It seems to fight my eye socket perfectly and quite comfortably. I'm in lust at the moment. I will update if anything changes...

Misc Beauty Tools -Shu Uemura - Eyelash Curler
Addytude 3/8/2008 12:21:00 AM
I wasn't impressed with this one and I bought it based on the reviews from this site. It seemed to be quite similar to the drugstore types to me. It did not curl all of my lashes evenly and it also had a tendency to pinch my skin. I took it back to Sephora and exchanged it for the "Shiseido Eyelash Curler" now that one is worth the money. I'm going to write up my review on that product next. I typically wait a week before writing a review, however, I am overly pleased with Shiseido's thus far.
