Fragrances -Clinique - Simply [DISCONTINUED]
0amelie_poulain0 10/18/2005 1:54:00 PM
Like everyone has said, there is no other perfume that smells like this. I wore it and liked it. However I always find something missing from it. Is that because of the simple blend of notes? As the name suggests, it isn't a sophisticated scent. One day I went into the computer lab of the univerity and found someone else was wearing it (I wans't wearing it at the time, otherwise it would have been embarrassing). I realized that such a fresh scent could be THIS overpowering that it made the whole lab full of the unique smell. That's just too obvious! It really made the wearer, whoever she was, appeared "trying too hard". Since then, I never wear Simply again. It's really too recognizable. I really don't like that people guess what you are wearing easily. I haven't recognized any familiar fragrances worn by other people except Simply.

Lip Treatments -The Body Shop - Born Lippy Lip Balm
0amelie_poulain0 7/17/2005 2:07:00 AM
For the past 3 years, I bought 4 of these balms. One in Watermelon as a gift for my friend (she liked it) and 3 for myself. It took me more than a year to use up my first one (in Mandarin, my fav. flavor). The colour of the strawberry one, which I am currently using, is most flattering to me. Unfortunately the raspberry one, which I bought about a year ago, was not my colour, a bit too blueish. They all have fantastic flavors and are as not sticky as many lip glosses (yes, they are actually lip glosses. If you use them to moisturize your lips, you will be disappointed). And they are cheap! You get a lot for the price. If I hadn't used the mandarin one everyday, every night and everywhere, I wouldn't have finished it in a year. The drawbacks are the poor lasting power and the packaging! I really hate dipping my fingure into the jar to apply. Germs on your fingure will easily stay in the rest of the balm. Even if you use a lip brush, there will be the same problem (lip brushes aren't that clean). I wish the Body Shop will change the packaging. A squeeze tube, for example, is more hygienic.

Foundations -Bourjois - Le Nu Vous Va Si Bien
0amelie_poulain0 7/2/2005 9:57:00 AM
After reading the reviews below, I was a bit shocked. Come on, Le Nu Vous Va Si Bien (the liquid one) is not that bad! Some gals probably don't have the right skin type to use it, e.g. oily skin. You'd probably avoid it. I have normal skin and I use a moisturiser underneath otherwise it can even be a little be dry for me. I think Le Nu is probably one of the best foundation I have used. It's also probably the ideal foundation I have been looking for - great colour match (Sable), not too greasy or too dry, not turning my face yellow or orange that the end of the day, light coverage and cheap! It does have a little bit coverage, not much. Therefore it gives my skin a natural, non-makeup look. I like that! It doesn't feel greasy upon application yet it doesn't make my face greasy after I have worn it for a few hours. The rose faragrance is quite artifitial but I like it, because it reminds me of something from the childhood. If this foundation doesn't cause me pimples (will probably update after using it for a while), I would buy it again and make this my HG foundation. UPDATE 12/8/2005: I think the shade will be too light for me in summer. So I probably can only use it in winter. However, it's a bit dry... :(

Eye Shadow -Clinique - Shadow Duo- Twillight Mauve/Brandied Plum
0amelie_poulain0 6/24/2005 5:10:00 AM
I really hate this Clinique eyeshadow. It's soooooooo dry. I prefer powder eyeshadow with a bit of shimmer and a creamy texture. I bought Twilight Mauve/Brandied Plum. Those shades were completely matte and looked dull on me. And the drawer-like package looked so weired and ugly. Really regret buying it!

Masks -Sisley - Masque Givre - Botanical Mask with Linden Blossom
0amelie_poulain0 6/21/2005 5:28:00 PM
This is a wonderful deep cleansing mask. It doesn't make my skin tight and uncomfortable after being rinsed off; instead, my skin feels soothed and calmed. It seems to have the ability to suck impurities out of pores, unlike many other masks which claim to do so but fail, cos my skin looks clear with smaller pores after using it everytime. Not sure if it will really tighten my pores in the long run. I have been having it for a few months but didn't use it often because I am lazy (I really need to change that!). Dry skin people would probably love this mask too. It is difficult to find a mask that cleanses while hydrates drier skins. Perhaps that's one of the reasons it is so expensive in addition to the facts that it's Sisley and supposed to have lots of rare botanical ingredients? It's literally the most expensive (and best) mask I have ever bought (NZ$85 from Strawberrynet). Would probably buy it again at Duty Free if I can't find anything as good. However, I wouldn't spend my money on other Sisley products cos they usually contain nasty ingredients such as paraffinum liquidum and are not worth that much.

Powders -L'Oreal - Visible Lift Line Minimizing Powder
0amelie_poulain0 6/21/2005 4:10:00 AM
WARNING: Don't buy this if you are looking for something you can put on lines. I bought this in Medium and have been using for a few months. It doesn't have the ability to minimize lines as it claims. I like it just because it is translucent (I hate heavy and thick powders), non-drying and doing a good job in diminishing the shine of my foundation. It is non-comedogenic and fragrance-free. A nice drugstore powder. I am usually no fan of L'Oreal products but will keep purchasing this.

Lotions/ Creams -Clarins - Body Shaping Cream
0amelie_poulain0 6/15/2005 1:41:00 AM
I am on my second jar of this. Yes, it is pricy but it is the only slimming product I have tried that works. I would rather buy this than spending my money on cheaper but useless products. I use it in the evening after shower on my belly and waist (these are the areas where fat easily accumulates). I remember seeing visible results after just a few weeks of use. I am currently using it to keep myself in shape and prevent fat to accumulate. I started to use the current jar at the beginning of the year. Nearly half a year after, there is still 80% left even if I have been using it every night. Therefore in the long run, it doesn't really cost you a lot.

Lipstick -Origins - Creamy Lip Color
0amelie_poulain0 6/15/2005 12:59:00 AM
The Origins website describes this lipstick as "Creamy, vegetable-based colors. Chock-full of soothing substances to soften lips and prevent dryness. Won't feather, bleed or wander." Yes, that's true. It is long-wearing and doesn't bleed like some glossy lipsticks to (becasue it is creamy instead of glossy). It doesn't dry out my lips. I have this lipstick in Razzmatazz, a light pink colour. Unfortunately it is a wrong shade for my warmtone MMM skin. Would probably buy another shade next time.

Moisturizers -Neutrogena - Visibly Firm Night Cream with Copper
0amelie_poulain0 6/13/2005 4:07:00 PM
It is a great inexpensive night cream for my normal skin in winter. After a few weeks of use, I really found my skin was firmer. I like the fact that it is fragrance-free (that's why I use so many Neutrogena products, scents suck), moisturising enough and not causing pimples. I am a heavy user and going to finish a jar about 3 months after I began using it (lol). As the weather is going to get warmer, I will shift to something lighter. But I will definitely buy this again next winter if I don't find anything better.

Lipstick -Bloom - Lipstick
0amelie_poulain0 6/13/2005 1:35:00 PM
I was looking for something to replace L'Oreal Shine Delice in Sugar 'N Spice, so I bought Bloom lipstick in Captivate. It is actually quite purple, a cool shade with slight silvery shimmer. It is sheer but the colour intensity is buildable. I still think the L'Oreal shade is more sutitable for my warmtone MMM complexion, however it dried my lips out. I like the Bloom one anyway. The packaging is soooooooo cute! I would probably buy another shade next time.

Lip Gloss -Bloom - Lip Glaze in Glitz
0amelie_poulain0 6/13/2005 12:59:00 PM
Not long ago I bought this lip glaze because I tried the shade at the store and liked it. However, the gritty texture and terrible scent really annoyed me. How strange. I had never used a lip gloss with grit. It was a waste of NZ$16. Definitely won't buy again!

Lip Treatments -Neutrogena - Lip Moisturizer
0amelie_poulain0 6/13/2005 4:24:00 AM
WOW! This is the most moisturising stick lip balm I have ever tried. It is non-waxy and fragrance-free (no more terrible scents), extactly everything I want! Mind you, it's much better than Blistex, Nivea, etc. A great base for lipstick/gloss. I bought it last November and have been using it daily since. Still a lot left! Definitely a staple to me.

Makeup Brushes -The Body Shop - Eyeshadow Brush
0amelie_poulain0 6/11/2005 2:28:00 PM
Like everyone has said, this brush doesn't pick up powder. I am sure it is better for applying cream eyeshadow instead of powder. Buy this only when you are going to use it for applying cream products.

Eye Shadow -Biotherm - #945 duo
0amelie_poulain0 6/11/2005 11:31:00 AM
I totally agree with the other 2 reviewers beofore me about this eyeshadow duo. The shades are exactly what I have been looking for a while. You can adjust the amounts of the pink and taupe while mixing to achieve slightly different results or use the pink shade to highlight. Love the velvety texture. The package and applicator look fun.

Blush -Almay - Beyond Powder Blush in Berry 07
0amelie_poulain0 6/11/2005 10:44:00 AM
This is a great inexpensive blush. Almay products has high quality among drugstore brands. It is oil-free, hypo-allergenic and fragrance-free, which was the reason I bought it in addition to its price. Berry 07 is a muted brownish pink colour, suitable for my warmtone MMM skin. This shade is quite neutral and should be great for cooltone people too. This blush is not very pigmented yet the intensity is buildable. I use it for a natural daytime look. The only think I'd complain about is the tiny brush that comes with it. That brush was totally crap, making the blush applied streaky. I threw it away and use my own blusher brush instead.
