Blush -Everyday Minerals - Summer Stroll
rated 5 of 5

Like the other reviewer, I was really, really hesitant to try this. It came as a free sample with my order, and I almost just threw it away. That "mac and cheese" description is hilarious and accurate. It's the color of the powdered cheese when you mix it with the milk! I'm a cool, pale, brunette with pink undertones, and I thought there was no way in hell I could pull this off (honestly, I didn't see how anyone could). BUT...It looks gorgeous on! The "summer stroll" name is perfect. I look like I spent a nice day in the sun, at the beach, and got a nice, glowing, golden color to my cheeks. Excellent.

Lotions/ Creams -Victoria's Secret - Beauty Rush - Body Whip Moisture Cream - Slice of Heaven

The other reviewer pretty much mirrors my thoughts. I love the smell of this lotion...Very sweet, kind of buttercream frosting, I guess. Mainly, though, I LOVE the whipped-cream texture of this stuff. It's fun to spray, apply, play with. Just be sure you point it straight down, or you'll have whip all over the bathroom. I'm definitely going to get a few more in other scents.

Styling Products -Matrix - Biolage - Gelee
rated 5 of 5

I'm becoming more and more impressed by Biolage products. At first I thought this was a bit expensive, but when it arrived, I saw that it's a giant bottle. I was pretty impressed. It didn't weight my hair down at all, in fact, I think it gave me volume. It defined my curls really well, and held them. There was a bit of crispiness, as with all gels, but I scrunched it out after my hair dried. Excellent product.

Shampoo -Redken - Clear Moisture Shampoo
rated 5 of 5
jamiemp 4/17/2008 2:04:00 PM

I'm kind of surprised this isn't very popular. I find that it moisturizes my hair perfectly, without weighing it down at all. In fact, I have great volume after using it, with no frizz. I follow with the matching conditioner, which I love just as much. Also, there's really not much scent that I notice, which is a refreshing change.

Mmm, this smells so good...and sexy. However, after reading reviews I'm feeling ancient. Please, oh please, reviewer below me, I turn 30 in July and apparently will fall into the "if you're older" category. Say it ain't so!

Blush -Tarte - Natural Swirl Full Blossom Cheek Stain
rated 5 of 5
jamiemp 4/17/2008 12:09:00 PM

WTF? What smell is everyone referring to? I'd ordered this, then read the reviews, and was TERRIFIED that it would be stinky. I truly cannot smell anything. Weird. Anyway, I like Tarte cheek stains a lot. This looks sweet and natural on my pale skin, like a real flush. I say I'd repurchase, but I think this will last me the rest of my life. It's a huge tube, like they always are.

Liquid -Tarte - Peaches and Cream Liquid Powder Foundation
rated 5 of 5
jamiemp 4/17/2008 12:06:00 PM

Fabulous foundation! It is a heavy, creamy product, so if you apply it heavily, it will look ridiculous and settle into your pores. Use just a tiny amount, and build your coverage as you need it. You'll find you don't need very much. Somehow this covers everything, yet still looks like real skin, not makeup. I absolutely love it. Of course, it's LE, as are all great products, just to mess with us.

Conditioner -Charles Worthington - Moisture Seal Leave-in
rated 5 of 5
jamiemp 4/16/2008 3:26:00 PM

This is fabulous! It really enhances and separates my curls, and holds them all day. The first time I used it, I used WAY too much of it. While you could tell I had too much product in, it wasn't all that bad. Now that I've worked out how much to use, it's fine. I tend to use this after clarifying, so I haven't played around with a variety of shampoos. Since I do rotate my hair stuff, I'll have to see if this would be too much moisture after a creamier shampoo...It could weigh me down in that case. As for the scent, I don't really notice it, and it doesn't hang around once your hair is dry.

Misc Beauty Tools -Everyday Minerals - Blotting Paper [DISCONTINUED]
rated 1 of 5
jamiemp 4/15/2008 9:48:00 PM

These suck. That's about here. If you think you want to try these, here's what I suggest: Go to your grocery store, buy a box of parchment paper, cut into squares, blot face. That's all these are! They do not absorb oil in any way, shape or form. I'll be sticking to Mary Kay sheets, which are perfect. EM screws me over again.

Foundations -Everyday Minerals - Pressed Powder-Fair Pink

Eh. That seems to be my general feeling about Everyday Minerals. While the color of this is okay for me, the application sucks, and the packaging is worse. HATE the stupid cardboard container that opens all the time in my purse. HATE the crappy little sponge they give you (DO NOT USE IT), and even with brush application, it makes my pores look ridiculously large. I gave it a 2 lippies, though, because the color really is perfect for my very pale face, which is a hard thing to find. I'll play with this a little more, with other brushes, to see what I can come up with. I want it to work!

Fragrances -Kenzo - Kenzo Jungle EDP

I got a decant of this from The Perfumed Court to see what I thought. I can't wait to buy a full-size. This is so, so good. One little spray and I'm set for the day (a miracle, for someone who never finds perfumes that last on my skin). Others have gone into the notes, the scent, etc, so I'll skip it because I'm bad at that. I will say, though, that the first time I wore it, I was complimented by my husband, a cashier at the grocery store, and then the ultimate...My mom came over to watch the kids and took the baby from me: "Oh my god, Lauren smells SO good. What are you wearing?!"

Fragrances -Yves Saint Laurent - Elle

I'm also surprised by such hostility over this. Holy cow, folks, it's a pefume! You act like it killed your grandma and you must avenge her or something. If you don't like it, say that, but the rage over it all is nuts! That being said, I received this as a free sample with a YSL order I placed. Since patchouli is listed in the notes, I would never, ever have bought this, as I hate patchouli and think it smells like ass. Still, I cannot pass up trying free perfume, as I'm a true addict, and tried a little of this. Now, I do smell the patchouli, though it's muted and not too bad, but I hated this upon initial spray. However, once it dried and settled, it smelled warm and spicy and nice. It also lasted all day long, something that pretty much no perfume does on me. I can't keep a scent to save my life. I probably wouldn't purchase, only because I have so many perfumes as it is, though I'll re-think that in the fall and winter (this isn't summery to me)...If it's still around. PS: I have had pet rats for years and 1. This smells nothing like a rat cage and 2. You shouldn't use cedar bedding in rat cages, as it's bad for them. That's all.

Not only is this useless, but I tried to use it during one of my pregnancies, and the smell made me vomit. Now, pregnancy isn't the best time to test scent-sensitivitiy, I know, but seriously, it's awful.

Foundations -Avon - Beyond Color Line Softening Mousse Foundation
rated 1 of 5
jamiemp 4/14/2008 10:32:00 AM

For me, the supposed "light coverage" was a positive, which is usually how mousse foundations work out on my skin. This, however, was far from light. It was very, very obvious, no matter how light a hand I used. It was streaky, and difficult to really work into my skin. When I finally got it passable, though not great, it made my skin look god-awful. I don't have terrible skin, but this emphasized every little imperfection, and made me feel dry. It just didn't work for me, and I hate the glass jar.

Fragrances -Laura Mercier - Neroli
rated 2 of 5
jamiemp 4/13/2008 10:25:00 PM

This smells like a slightly altered box of Froot Loops (the contents, not the box itself). Just a boring, sweet, fake-fruity scent. And at $65 for a bottle, that's outrageous! I'd rather spend twice as much and get something fabulous. Lately, Laura Mercier seems to piss me off with great regularity.
