Eye Shadow -MAC - Paint Pot in Soft Ochre
jjay7381 6/22/2009 10:35:00 PM
Soft Ochre was my first paint pot and it's now a staple in my makeup bag! It works great for my skin color and really helps with evening out the color/hiding the veins on my eyelid and makes an awesome sticky base for eyeshadow. It applies as a cream and finishes super smooth like a powder. I usually just apply it with my finger but the MAC 217 brush does an awesome job of applying paint pots by using the belly of the brush. Soft Ochre does an awesome job blending and once it dries it won't smudge! It holds up beautifully, even up against my oily skin and the sweltering climate I live in! I still choose to use a primer (Benefit) underneath it, but lots of people use it instead of a primer and find that it works just as well and saves you the $$$ and time of using both! $16.50, but definitely a great buy!

Cleansers -Olay - Dual Action Cleanser + Pore Minimizing Scrub 2 in 1 Foaming Cleanser
jjay7381 6/21/2009 5:23:00 PM
This product is definitely NOT for anyone who's trying to get clearer skin. It does NOT help with acne whatsoever. It does make my skin soft and isn't irritating, but it hasn't done anything in terms of improving my skin. It hasn't made my skin worse, but it hasn't made it any better either. Overall it's a disappointment.

Lip Gloss -Victoria's Secret - Beauty Rush Soothing Lip Balm
jjay7381 6/11/2009 4:30:00 PM
I am definitely NOT a lip balm/gloss type of girl, but I absolutely love this stuff. I recently moved to the northwest for school from southern California and the weather was wreaking havoc on my lips so I needed to try something. VS was having a sale so I decided to give it a try. I bought it in clear and pink. I like the pink one because it's a very soft color that isn't too glossy so it doesn't get sloppy looking. I like the clear one because I can put it over another color or lipstick to make my lips look shiney (but not too wet/sticky). It comes in a kind of tin can which is great as long as you don't leave it in the heat. The only thing I don't like about this lip balm is the same thing I don't like about all lip balms and that's the minty taste/smell. That's just me though I guess. It doesn't tingle as much as other lip balms (another reason why I love it) but it still keeps my lips from getting chapped and disgusting. The VS website says it sells for $7, which isn't too bad considering there's a lot of it in the little cans it comes in and I think it will last a long time. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING ABOUT THIS LIP BALM IS THAT YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY APPLY IT WITH A LIP BRUSH! Otherwise, it'll leave your fingers really sticky and greasy! Yuck!

Powder -Flirt - Love & matteness Oil-Free Pressed Powder
jjay7381 6/11/2009 4:09:00 PM
First of all, this is NOT a heavy duty Powder like MAC. It's definitely not for getting glammed up and going out. I really use it more for casual outings like going to class or just to lightly go over liquid foundation to keep my face from looking cakey. For what I use it for, it's great and works well. Using heavy foundations like MAC everyday is not only bad for your skin, but it's way more of a heavy look than I think is needed for daytime use. Using this lets my skin breathe a little while still giving me enough coverage. This really isn't a make up for people with acne or bad skin though, even though it says oil-free. It still leaves my skin feeling a little greasy at the end of the day but for about $10 (though the website says it's $14 now, I guess I got it on sale at Kohls), it's a great powder for blending and just simple daytime make up for school or work that will give your face a break and make your expensive make up last way longer.

Liquid -Boots - No7 Intelligent Balance Foundation Mousse
jjay7381 6/11/2009 3:57:00 PM
I've been hunting around for a new foundation after using MAC for years now and seeing my skin get really bad because of it. I tried the liquid Revlon Colorstay and it looked good on, but it's so oily my skin just looked really greasy after a few hours and I wound up having my face break out like I've never seen before! So terrible! I got a gift card to Target so I thought I'd go look and see if I could try another foundation risk free since basically someone else was paying for it. Anyway, I saw this stuff and remembered that my best friend had tried No7 before a long time ago and really liked it so I decided to give it a try. The cool thing about No7 is that they have testers and mirrors in the store for ALL of their products so you can actually figure out your correct color and see what it looks like in the store before you buy it instead of trying to guess correctly, which for me is a pretty big challenge for some reason. For about $13 bucks, I decided to try this (only about $1 more than the Revlon Colorstay by the way). It's a SUPER light mousse foundation that gives excellent coverage and unlike MAC and Revlon, I don't feel or look like I have make up caked on my face. It looks really airbrushy and natural. No greasy feeling at all, which is great for someone who's dealing with breakouts because of the foundation they been using. It comes in a kind of a heavy-duty ceramic-type jar (so you can drop it and it won't break). You just spread it around with your fingers, so you won't get a brush dirty everytime you use it and it doesn't leave your fingers greasy either. I kinda like this cause I can just throw it in my purse and use it in a pinch without worrying about if I remembered to bring a brush or not. The color matches super well with my skin and blends really well.

Eye Makeup Remover -Victoria's Secret - Take It All Off Eye Makeup Remover
jjay7381 1/16/2009 2:46:00 AM
I absolutely LOVE this make up remover. It quickly and easily picks up EVERYTHING. You don't have to scrub hard and your face isn't left feeling oily afterwards. It's by far the best make up remover I've ever tried and whenever I get into Victoria's Secret I always buy at least two bottles. A lot of times it's completely sold out, so obviously I'm not the only fan of it out there. Whatever you think of VS make up, the remover is outstanding.

Mascara -Cover Girl - Fantastic Lash [DISCONTINUED]
jjay7381 1/10/2009 4:23:00 AM
I really like this mascara. I use Diorshow or Lash Blast when I go out, but for daytime wear I really like this mascara because it really does a great job of lengthening and separating my lashes. I have it in black brown and it really just makes my eyes look amazing without looking like I made myself up too much (nothing is more annoying than girls who cake on the make up just to go to the library!). For a cheaper product, it's everything I could possibly want and having a less expensive alternative for everyday daytime wear is really nice! The only reason I give it 4 instead of 5 is the my lashes are naturally really long, so I'm not sure if it people with shorter lashes will have the same experience with it as I did, if that makes sense...

Eyeliner -BeneFit Cosmetics - Babecake eyeliner [DISCONTINUED]
jjay7381 1/9/2009 4:42:00 AM
This is one of my FAVORITE eyeliners. Using a liner brush, it's literally like painting liner onto your eyes. It's great for getting the perfect winged look or really really fine lines (though it does require a very steady hand). Having both brown and black is great if you don't always want the drama of black eyeliner. At $22, it's fairly expensive but it seems to be lasting me a long long time. The packaging is great. I've dropped it a bunch of times and it's still in perfect condition. The product doesn't smear and lasts forever. You really don't even need to prime your eye if you're just using this because it just stays so well and the pigment is outstanding. Basically, I can't say enough good things about this eyeliner. It's amazing!

Eye Shadow -Coastal Scents - 28 Neutral Palette
jjay7381 1/7/2009 12:34:00 AM
Cheap product = poor quality. Shouldn't be a huge surprise. Don't even bother with it if you're not going to use a really good primer. The color will look weird, if it even sticks at all and your face will just look dirty. However, I could see this being good for someone who's just getting started with makeup and needs to practice a little before buying higher end products.

Blush -MAC - Mocha blush
jjay7381 1/7/2009 12:14:00 AM
Hands down my favorite MAC blush. It really compliments my C3 skin and looks great all year round. If you're willing and able to shell out $18 on blush, then you'll love this stuff.

Eyeliner -L'Oreal - HiP Color Truth Cream Eyeliner
jjay7381 1/7/2009 12:06:00 AM
I LOVE this stuff. It comes in a little glass jar with a little brush. The brush is so fine, I actually like it for a cheaper product. It's small, but a little goes a long long way so it'll last you for a while. It's easy to put on and great for creating really fine lines. It stays well and doesn't smear if you use a primer. It's also great for blending. It's not great for on-the-go, but if you don't love pencils and you don't like liquid liners (like I don't), then it's a really great product.

Eye Primer -BeneFit Cosmetics - F.Y. Eye [DISCONTINUED]
jjay7381 1/6/2009 10:43:00 PM
I just bought the Urban Decay primer because I keep hearing about it's magic, but I've been using Benefit F.Y. Eye primer for over a year now and I LOVE it. It's a cream that goes on really easily and I generally just use my finger to apply it. The color of my shadows look a million times better over this stuff and I've even fallen asleep with it on (I know, I know, BAD) and woken up the next morning with my eye makeup STILL looking perfect. It comes in a small glass jar, which I really liked about it (you don't have to cut the package to get the last bit of it). A very small amount goes a long way, so even though it's small, it lasts FOREVER and at $22 for each little jar, a broke college student like myself can really appreciate that!

Mascara -Cover Girl - Lash Blast
jjay7381 1/6/2009 10:30:00 PM
I LOVE this mascara. For those who don't want to shell out the money for Diorshow or some other expensive mascara, this is the holy grail for you. It makes my lashes so long and thick, people sometimes ask if they're fake and I get compliments on them all the time when I wear it. If you're an expensive mascara junkie, you should buy this anyway to keep as a less expensive alternative you can take out with you and not feel too bad if it gets lost. ***Update: It gets flakey very quickly, so you'll have to get new tubes pretty often. Still a good product though!

Makeup Brushes -Sephora - The Smokey Eye Kit
jjay7381 1/6/2009 10:23:00 PM
First of all, I love the case for this set. It's small enough to take on the go and sturdy enough that you don't have to worry about anything falling out of it. As someone who hasn't been able to perfect the smokey eye look yet, I'm looking forward to trying out the directions that come with the kit. The only thing I don't like about it is that Sephora is essentially trying to sell more of their products by making "suggestions" as to which of their eye shadows, liners, etc. to use, which I think is annoying. But, I'll live. The brushes are light and soft but very dense so they pick up color well with minimal fallout. You get 4 brushes, a lash comb/brush, and some Sephora brand mascara. You get a bigger tube of Mascara than I thought you would. It's a pretty generic mascara, so if you're used to Diorshow or Lash Blast or whatever, you're not going to be particularly impressed. I just plan on keeping it around as a just-in-case backup type of thing. I'm not sure. I have naturally thick long lashes so I don't really need a super good mascara for everyday use anyway. Overall, I'm really happy with this set. The quality is great and for the price, especially if you stack it up against MAC, you really should be pleased with this kit.
