Eye Shadow -Black Opal - Eyeshadow-General
rated 4 of 5
nd1282 1/23/2005 7:56:00 AM

I bought 2 eyeshadow quads for $5 a pop in Manhattan. Pros: Gorgeous color combinations, silky application, and shimmery without being too glittery. Cons: Uneven quality in terms of pigmentation and lasting power- they MUST be applied with a base. That being said, both quads were lovely neutral color combinations that would be quite suitable for the office. Sepia Sunrise had three shimmery shadows (Plum-Gold-Dark Brown) and a beige matte color. Emerald Dusk was a quad with four shimmery eyeshadows (Rose-Navy-Moss-Silvery Brown) of which I had problems with the Rose and Brown shades showing up- but then again, I am a CCC. Lovely combinations, but I can buy other better quality eyeshadows in the same price range.

Eye Shadow -NYX - 3 Color Eyeshadow
rated 5 of 5

I love NYX eyeshadows! Silky, pigmented, super cheap, highly versatile, and availible in a wide range of colors, they are my favorite drugstore brand eyeshadow. One caveat: they are hard to find on the East Coast- I have to go to a Beauty Supply Store for them. But they are worth it! The ones I have so far: 1) Frosted Lilac/Pacific/Kiwi 2) Platinum Pink/Salmon/Jazzy Bronze 3) Sweet Lagoon/Aqua/Ocean 4) White Pearl/Silver/Charcoal 5) Purple/Deep Purple/Prune 6) Golden/Rust/Walnut Bronze And I'm definitely going to be collecting more!

Eye Shadow -Apt.5 Cosmetics - duo eyeshadow
rated 5 of 5
nd1282 12/28/2004 2:27:00 AM

Ladies, believe the hype! Apt. 5 eyeshadows are wonderful...great color combinations, long-lasting, well-pigmented, and inexpensive (~$4) as well. I have 11 duos and am seriously lemming for more! (FYI I am a CCC Neutral) To summarize: SD-02 Bronze Duo with toffee and coffee shimmer shadows. Lovely golden sheen to both- really brings out my brown eyes. SD-03 Basic but indispensible duo of matte cream and chocolate. Great neutrals for whenever. SD-04 Love this combo! Matte forest green plus shimmery light green. SD-05 Shimmery rose and lilac shadows. Less pigmented than my other duos, but better when applied wet. Perfect for the spring. SD-06 Shimmery lavender and pastel purple. Very pretty as a smoky eye. SD-07 Slightly shimmery dark blue and a shimmery sky blue. Perfect for people who don't like blue eyeshadows. SD-11 Champagne and caramel shimmer shadows. Lovely natural look for work. Subtle and polished looking. SD-15 Shimmery gunmetal gray and silver eyeshadows. Gorgeous smoky eye combo. SD-17 Matte plum and shimmery gold duo. Very classy. SD-18 Shimmery midnight blue plus silvery white. Scary in the pan, but on it is just stunning! Great for a dramatic look. SD-22 Sadly discontinued, this is my favorite. Shimmery golden bronze and cream. Beautiful combination.

Lip Gloss -Rimmel - Star Dazzlers - Splendid
rated 5 of 5
nd1282 12/21/2004 4:09:00 PM

Lovely, lovely, lovely! A peachy-pink shade in the tube, once applied it turns into a sheer rose w/ fine gold microglitter on the lips, just stunning! It makes my lips so luscious looking...however, the lasting power could be better. Considering the price($4) and the beautiful color, I won't mind reapplying it every half hour or so. An extra bonus: it leaves my lips so soft as well. Will definitely repurchase.

Eye Shadow -L'Oreal - eyeshadow
rated 3 of 5

L'oreal eyeshadows are a toss up, quality wise. Sometimes they are very pigmented and long-lasting; sometimes the quality is so atrocious (case in point: Enchanted Bouquet), you wonder why the line hasn't been discontinued. In general, the best ones to buy are the limited editions- I've found them to be of the highest quality and the best color combinations. I currently own the Fall 2004 LE Sumptuous Suedes Quad and the Ovarian CA Winter 2004 LE Bouquet Quad.

Lip Gloss -Rimmel - star dazzlers- brilliant
rated 4 of 5
nd1282 12/21/2004 3:39:00 PM

For $4, you get a nicely pigmented gloss. On my mauve lips it showed up a silvery champagne color. It has a thin consistency like the tube lipglosses, with about the same staying power. Lovely creamsicle scent, and slanted lip applicator is a plus. I would repurchase this if the staying power was more than 5 minutes.

Palettes -Pupa - Devil Kit
rated 5 of 5
nd1282 4/29/2004 10:42:00 PM

I seemed to be cursed w/ this kit. I ordered it two times from two different stores- on both occasions, the kit came to me with the bronzer crumbled up all over the makeup. The second store credited my account and let me keep the kit. I managed to salvaged most of it. The loss of the bronzer didn't affect me much-I'm Indian, so the bronzer was kind of superfluous to start with. Anyway, this kit contains: 4 eyeshadows (plum -periwinkle -pale lilac -pastel yellow), 2 Cream eyeshadows (maroon -gold), 1 red-orange lipstick, 1 pale pink lipgloss, 1 cream mauve blush, 1 bronzer, 1 eye pencil, and 1 eyeshadow applicator. The shadows are pigmented and last all day. The eye pencil is nice. The gloss provided essentially moisture; the lipstick is RED, but nice when applied very sheerly. The blush is pigmented and provides a lovely glow for my CCC neutral skin. This retails for $32USD/$25EUR, but I bought it on the cheap on Ebay for $20. I think for the money it's a great value.

Palettes -Pupa - Angel Kit
rated 5 of 5
nd1282 4/29/2004 10:30:00 PM

My first Pupa Kit! I love this little angel. It's so stylish and cute! The top half is hinged and is pulled back to reveal a mirror on the inside. The bottom half consists of three layers of makeup, with two swivel trays. The makeup is of good quality, and includes: 4 eyeshadows (light blue - pale lilac - dark blue - bone), 2 cream eyeshadows (medium pink - gold), 2 lipglosses (green w/ glitter - yellow w/ glitter), a translucent powder, a rosy pink blush, an eyeshadow applicator, and an eye pencil. The shadows are pigmented and last all day. The eye pencil is nice. The glosses are very glittery, they provide essentially moisture + glitter. The powder gives a luminous look to my skin, and the blush is pigmented and provides a lovely glow for my CCC neutral skin. This retails for $32USD/$25EUR, but I bought it on the cheap on Ebay for $20. I think for the money it's a great value.

Palettes -Revlon - Skinlights Custom Lip Colors in Topaz
rated 5 of 5
nd1282 4/29/2004 8:15:00 PM

Very nice. I bought this BOGOF, so for ~$5 I got a chic palette with 5 lip colors and a small two-sided brush. This set gives me the most gorgeous nude lips, and the lip possibilities are endless. The lip colors last a decent time, about average for a lipstick. Considering the portability, variety, stylishness, and cost of these palettes (about as much as I would have paid for a lipstick) I have already purchased the other two types of palettes- the Rose Quartz and Mother of Pearl- and I can't wait to try them out!

Makeup Brushes -Sonia Kashuk - Ultimate Brush Set
rated 5 of 5
nd1282 4/29/2004 8:08:00 PM

An awesome set! I bought this on sale for $20 (down from $30), and I consider it one of my best beauty related purchases EVER. A powder brush, blush brush, brow brush, three eyeshadow brushes, and a mirror in a hot pink zip up case. Amazing quality and value for the price. Buy this set, if you can- I had a raincheck for this for over a month, every time they got a new shipment in, this set would just fly off the shelf!

Palettes -Victoria's Secret - Very Sexy Starlet
rated 5 of 5
nd1282 4/29/2004 7:52:00 PM

One of my first VS makeup purchases, back in the day. After I wandered over from the, uh, apparel section...(Starts to sing "Memories" slightly off-key). But I digress. This in a black case covered with (What else?) lips in various shades of red and pink. It has a zipper and an interior mirror and came with three (dinky) lipsticks (These, I later found out, are actual regular sized lipsticks- ye gods!) two lipglosses, a lip liner, and a blush. All the products are of superb quality- which is something that, frankly, I didn't expect. The Flushed blush was silky and pigmented, but it looked odd on me (I'm a CCC neutral, but it was just too pink) and I gave it along with the Nude Brown lip liner (I don't use/need lip liners) to my PPP friend (They look wonderful on her). The glosses are nice and moisturizing- Crimson Slip gives my pigmented lips a nice red tint-but Pink Slip was too sheer to be noticeable. The lipsticks are amazing! Long-lasting and moisturizing, they feel wonderful on. The only problem I had was the selection of colors. The red one (Fire) turned fuchsia on me, while the mauve one (Mauvelous) was so pigmented that it had to be blotted repeatedly, something that I generally never have to do. In all fairness, it did leave a nice stain. The nude one, however, is a keeper. Dusk is a gorgeous bronzy nude, my HG nude in fact. This was a great intro for me to VS makeup, and lead to other VS makeup purchases that have never disappointed me in terms of value and quality.

Palettes -Victoria's Secret - Kiss and Make-Up Ruby Palette
rated 5 of 5
nd1282 4/29/2004 7:22:00 PM

VS palettes are seriously underrated. The ruby palette I purchased has 3 lipsticks, 2 lip glosses, 3 eyeshadows, mini brushes, and a mascara- all in a mirrored case for ~ $30! I consider that a great deal, especially when you consider the generous amount they provide for each product. Since groovynub has wonderfully summed up the palette below, I'll just add my comments. The lip products were creamy, pigmented, and moisturizing; however, the lipglosses were very sheer on my (pigmented) lips. The eyeshadows were silky and long-lasting, and the mascara was surprisingly good- it thickened and elongated my eyelashes without clumping. This was a holiday item, but if you can find it on Ebay (I bought the companion Copper palette there) I would definitely recommend buying this item. You won't be disappointed!

Scrubs -Neutrogena - Blackhead Eliminating Scrub
rated 5 of 5
nd1282 4/20/2004 6:14:00 PM

This is my HG scrub. I have combo skin that is prone to blackheads and pimples in the T-zone area, and this product has reduced them dramatically and given me some of my best skin days ever. The scrub particles can be abrasive, but as long as the pressure is light, they do an excellent job of exfoliating the face. This product isn't irritating to my face like some of the other cleansers that I have tried, and doesn't strip my face of moisture. A major rave from me!

Conditioner -Pantene - Daily Moisture Renewal Conditioner
rated 3 of 5
nd1282 4/20/2004 6:08:00 PM

Hmm... I have a love and hate relationship with this conditioner. I have wavy, thick shoulder-length parched hair. This conditioner weighs it down, naturally "straightening" it for me. However, it also makes my hair (which I wash every other day MAX) feel kind of greasy the same day - say, 15 hours later- which never happens with any other conditioner that I own. Also, it builds up relatively fast in my hair, initially giving a lovely sheen, but by the second or third shower my hair looks dull. On the plus side, it does moisturize well. However, considering the negatives, I don't think that I will be repurchasing this product.

Shampoo -Citre Shine - moisture burst
rated 5 of 5
nd1282 4/20/2004 6:00:00 PM

I use this once a week to clarify my hair of all the gunk put in it. This shampoo lathers wonderfully and rinses clean. It strips my hair of excess product w/out stripping it of moisture. I follow it up with the conditioner from the same line, and my hair comes out shiny, soft, and bouncy. A very nice, very cheap product. Major rave from me!
