Mascara -Canmake - Dolly Eye Lash Base
rated 3 of 5
Aniger86 6/19/2010 4:57:00 AM

Its a white mascara base with fibres in it. It doesn't hold a curl, does add volume and lengthens lashes as well. But beware of application tactic as it does clump, and this would affect the mascara you apply on this base. How I use this base: 1) I curl my lashes with a heated curler 2) apply Shiseido mascara base with a light coat 3) I only apply this a tiny bit on the ends of my lashes on top of the Shiseido mascara base so the fibres get on the ends and lengthens the lashes 4) Apply my mascara End result: Does lengthens lashes when used this way, but probably won't re-purchase.

Mascara -Bourjois - Yes to Volume No to Clumps
rated 4 of 5
Aniger86 6/19/2010 4:34:00 AM

I got this mascara as I wanted to try the comb applicator as I have yet to try it, and also as it was on close to 30% off on a special promotion I saw in the departmental store. I am glad I got it. A couple of things on it, it does hold a curl, which is very important for me, and its hard to find a mascara that actually does hold a curl. The formula is quite dry as opposed to wet as well, which I like as wetter formulas have trouble holding a curl well. The mascara doesn't clump which is good, and it lengthens lashes as well. However, it does NOT provide any volume at all, which is fine for me, but ladies looking for volume would definitely be disappointed. All in all, I did like the mascara and would re-purchase again, but I believe they have been pulled off the shelves, maybe discontinued or something. The one I currently have is finished and I thought of getting a new one, but couldn't seem to locate it in shops anymore. In the end, I got another mascara under the SANA brand, which I have already reviewed and love as well!

Mascara -Unlisted Brand - SANA Maiko-Han Mascara (Black)
rated 4 of 5
Aniger86 6/19/2010 4:07:00 AM

This is a mascara manufactured in Japan. Its got a pretty special wand, its this circular wand with a curved in mascara comb, as opposed to the normal mini comb some mascaras are featuring of late. The formula is not too wet, which I like as formulas that are too wet always weighs down my lashes and have trouble holding the curl of my lashes after I use an eyelash curler. However, I still blot the wand to remove excess before application to minimize clumping. This product 1) holds the curl of lashes, which is extremely important for me, and 2) lengthens the lases quite a fair bit as well, which I like, but this product is definitely NOT a volumizing mascara as it doesn't provide volume at not, which is fine for me as this is not what I am looking for in a mascara. One incredible thing about this mascara is that it actually creates longer and fuller lashes after you remove it. Before using this mascara, my lashes were pretty short and brittle from regular mascara usage, but after I used this mascara, I realised my lashes were becoming longer and fuller, I'm not sure what stimulates their growth, but I suspect it might be the camellia oil in it. I have heard that castor oil stimulates lashes growth although I have never tried it, and since the camellia in it is a form of oil as well, maybe it's what's that's making my lashes look better even au natural? I am pretty glad that I purchased this mascara, would probably re-purchase again. Update: I think my lashes were just growing better with the lash essence I was using, as after using the mascara for a longer period, I realised my lashes didn't seem to have grown as a result of the mascara. For me, this mascara lasted 3 months, I use it roughly five days a week. I think it is a pretty short time frame, my Bourjois mascara lasted 5 months.

Lip Gloss -Bourjois - Effet 3 D Lipgloss
rated 4 of 5
Aniger86 1/2/2010 2:10:00 AM

I purchased shade 47-Beige unic. Its a pale nude shimmery gloss, the kind of colour suitable for when you do a smokey eye look. I have used it several times and I find its a decent gloss - it is not sticky, in fact, it feels quite nice on the lips compared to some other glosses I have tried. As for the shimmery factor, it is more shimmery on the lips than what it looks in the tube. It also plumps up the lips and provides volume in a nice way. I have full lips which I prefer to down play, but this gloss makes them appear fuller, and in a way I find quite nicely, as opposed to making them overly plump in an unattractive manner. As for the brush of the gloss, its a small soft brush, which I like. All in all, I like the gloss and would re-purchase again. Update- The product breaks easily. Once, after dropping it on the floor, the cover cracked and I could not cover the tube properly so I ended up throwing it away! I also did purchase the same item in shade 18-transparent oniric, its a clear transparent gloss. I had to get it out of desperation as I was running out of clear gloss and could not find a replacement anywhere. In anycase, I use it to layer on my coloured glosses for a shiner look. But I find this gloss seems to spread after application, it doesn't hold itself well and goes everywhere, which was not the case with the previous shade I got. I think it might have something to do with the fact its a clear gloss so maybe the texture's different. It is not likely I would re-purchase this item in clear.

Mascara -Rimmel - Sexy Curves
rated 3 of 5
Aniger86 1/2/2010 1:52:00 AM

My first Rimmel mascara and product. Rimmel was just recently offered where I live, it was never sold before that. I had been wanting to get it for awhile as I wanted to try the rubber wand. I finally got around to purchasing it when it was on 20% off, and on top of that, I get a $2 off with a coupon I had. The wand is made up of 3 mini rubber balls, thus, on the space between the balls, its hard for the mascara to get your lashes. Also, some reviewers mentioned this mascara doesn't seem to pick up enough product on the wand, which is true, it does pick up minimal product, which is the way I like my mascara to be applied. So I won't recommend it to someone who likes more product on their wand. In fact, even though it picks up little product, I do wipe the wand with a tissue before application as I like coating my lashes slowly as opposed to applying a think layer as it weighs down my lashes. It does provide some curling effect, but its not substantial. However, please take note it does not provide volume, which does not bother me because I am more concerned about retaining the curl of lashes as well as making sure they separate properly as opposed to clumping, which this mascara does. The bottom line is this is a mascara that provides a little curl, separates lashes, but does not provide volume or give big fanciful lashes. Thus only buy it if you are looking more for a simple everyday look, as opposed to a more dramatic eyelash look.

Powder -Unlisted Brand - Silky Girl Silky White Lightening 2-Way Foundation SPF15 Oil Free
rated 4 of 5
Aniger86 7/4/2009 12:44:00 PM

I quite like this 2 way foundation, it application is not powdery like many others which I have used, and the base of the foundation is not too pink or yellow, which I find to be the problem of some other powders. I have repurchased before in 04 Sand shade. Its one of the darkest shade in the range and even then, its not that dark, more like a medium tone so I would say the range is more suited for fairer individuals than tanner skin tones. I would most probably repurchase in a slightly lighter shade again. I would say this foundation applies better and has a more neutral base tone compared to the other bigger names like Loreal. Definitely recommended!

Moisturizers -L'Oreal - White Perfect Night Re-Lightening Whitening
rated 3 of 5
Aniger86 7/4/2009 12:09:00 PM

I got this as I needed a heavier cream for drier areas of my face, and wanted a more affordable product as well. It looks quite heavy and creamy in the pot, but when applied, I was pleasantly surprised at how light it was, which I liked. I use it mainly on my eyes, as after purchasing it, my skin has changed to more oily than dry so I can't use it on my face anymore. It sort of sting my eyes a little, but other than that, I'm actually quite happy with the light yet moisturising texture. However, I don't think the lightening effect works as advertised, I don't think it lightens the face, just works as a good moisturizer that's all.

Lip Gloss -Bonne Bell - Lip D'Votion in Real Raspberry
rated 4 of 5
Aniger86 7/4/2009 11:49:00 AM

The name on my gloss says lip d'Votion Real Raspberry Framboise, but its not a hot pink as described by other reviewers here. My is a light pretty baby pink lip gloss in a transparent twist tube. When you apply the product on your lips, it goes on much lighter, almost looking like a nude lip colour, and I like the nice sweet scent of it too, I just wish it was in a simple squeeze tube as opposed to a twist one because its so troublesome as you have to twist it a couple of times before the product is being dispense, and then, there's the issue of over twisting and then there would be too much excess product on the brush. Other than this, I do like the colour, as well as the texture of the gloss, so I'm going to give it 4 lippies. But I probably won't repurchase because of the twist tube it comes in, I'll rather pick a more application friendly gloss.

Treatments (Eye) -L'Oreal - WHITE PERFECT double eye zone
rated 2 of 5
Aniger86 4/20/2009 10:40:00 PM

I have been using this product for weeks now so I can safely say it doesn't work. Basically, there's two parts to the product, the blue part on the left is a gel dispenser, and the silver part on the right is a white cream, which you are suppose to apply on top of the gel. Smart marketing gimmick I'll say, its the novelty of this that made me purchase the product. I use the same amount of product every time I apply, but the gel part of the product has since ran out a week or two ago, while the white cream part of the product is still able to dispense from the rectangular bottle. I actually do not like the mixing of the two gel and cream at the same time as it makes the texture runny and thus makeup does not apply well on the eye area. Probably will not repurchase since the product doesn't really work well, and neither is the price cheap.

Moisturizers -Garnier - Skin Naturals Light Moisturizing Cream SPF 15
rated 3 of 5
Aniger86 4/20/2009 10:22:00 PM

I needed a very moisturising mosturizer as my skin was very dry from the acne products I was using from my dermatologist. I was going to go for one from Nivea which I have repurchased twice and liked, but it wasen't oil free. I then considered this product as 1) I thought while moisturising my face, it can lighten it too. 2) Its suppose to be Singapore's best selling whitening cream as adverstised on the packaging. 3) I managed to locate a shop that was selling it for 40% off! So, I bought the cream and have been using it for days now. I have observed the following: It is OILY so I wouldn't recommand it for anyone who has oily skin. I have combination skin and wouldn't have liked this normally, but for my very dry skin now, this works well in moisturising it. Its however OIL FREE though, I have read the ingrediants on the product before purchase. I purchased in the pot version, and I understand some people have concerns about the hygiene, so I recommand the using of cotton buds when getting product out of the jar, I never use my fingers. As for the whitening effects, I have yet to see it, I shall update on it at a later time. Price- For 40% off its orginal price, I will repurchase, otherwise, I will give it a pass the next time. Final Verdit- This product is more for drier skin conditions, and will probably not suit people with oily/combi skins.

Eye Makeup Remover -Biore - Hydra Clear Makeup Remover
rated 3 of 5
Aniger86 4/20/2009 9:58:00 PM

I purchased this makeup remover as my Neutrogena oil free makeup remover was running out, and I couldn't find places that sold it at a good discounted price. Thus, I decided to settle for this since it advertises itself to be oil free, which I like. How do you use it? As per the instructions, do not spread product on a cotton pad and then clean makeup off like how you do with a conventional makeup remover. This product works more like a cleansing oil. You have to put the product on your dry hands and massage to work it into your face to remove the makeup. Does it perform as advertise? Yes, but to a certain extend. I have only used it a couple of times and it seems to remove makeup on the face well, with the exception of the eye area due to the curves of the eye as well as the product sipping into the eye and stinging it. Also, because the makeup at this area is harder to budge, there is quite a but of tagging involved if you were to use this makeup remover for the eye area. How much product is used to remove makeup effectively? On the instructions, it says a teaspoon/3ml is sufficient, but I would say I use this much for each side of the cheek, as well as the forehead, so that would be 9ml. Final Verdict: Its an ok product overall, but I feel I might prefer the conventional method of wiping makeup off using cotton pads as it cleans makeup more effectively and this method also takes longer. The thing that might tempt me into buying this product is that its oil free, a huge plus point for me. Update: I did repurchase in the end and would recommand this product as an alternative to cleansing oils for people who prefer oil free makeup removal.

Eye Makeup Remover -Neutrogena - Oil Free eye makeup remover
rated 3 of 5
Aniger86 4/2/2009 3:04:00 AM

I decided to give this a go for two reasons: 1) I needed an oil free makeup remover that actually removes waterproof sunscreen! I have tried many oil free ones that claim to remove waterproof makeup but they never work so I decided to give this a go. 2) There was a discount on it. Does this product works as advertised? I have used this to remove waterproof sunscreen and I don't think it completely takes them off. I use it for the eye area for removing concealer and it works good, it removes eye makeup easily enough, but we must remember the concealer I use around my eyes are not waterproof. Product Formulation: I am very curious what the oil like liquid that is floating on the second half of the bottle is. This product is suppose to be oil free, but the liquid on the top half looks suspicuoiuly like oil, so I am realy curious what ingrediants go into making that oil like substance. Comparisons with Lancome's & Clinique's makeup removers: I didn't quite like the one from Lancome (I can't remember its exact name), but this product is no competition for Clinique's Take The Day off. Overall satisfaction: In the end, I did purchase another bottle after I was finished with the first one, but only did so because it was on sale. The first bottle I purchased was on 20% off, and the second one was on a bigger sale where what I paid for a bottle could buy 2 and 1/2 bottles. I might repurchase if I can get this item at a good sale price, otherwise, I think I probably would give it a pass.

Sunscreen -Biore - UV Perfect Face Milk SPF 50+
rated 3 of 5
Aniger86 3/20/2009 2:29:00 AM

I have been purchasing samples of Sunplay sunscreen for usuage, but have not been completely statisfied with their products so I was reluctant to puchase the full sizes which retails at around SGD20. I decided to purchase this Biore product as its much less costly than Sunplay. Due to its price, I did not expect much from it. I have used it for two days now and so far, I am quite pleased with it. I have rated this product according to the below citerias: Application: Applies smoothly and very lightly, disappears into the skin upon application. I applied several layers and the product layered very well, without stickyness. As for the whistish cast very associated with sunscreens, the whitish cast caused by this sunscreen is quite minimal considering the amount of layers I applied. After Application Feeling on the Skin: It dries and sits quite comfortably on the skin, with no heavy feeling after drying. This distintly resemblems Kiss Me Sunkiller sunscreens, which I liked (but unfortunatly broke me out badly so I could not continue using it). How Makeup Applies on top of Product: I use power foundation on top of this sunscreen applied with a big powder brush, and liked how the powder 'sticks' onto my skin nicely instead of sitting thickly on my face like it usually does. I have yet to use liquid foundation with this product but I think this sunscreen might work better with powders as liquids might have problems with the blending process as liquids would most probably dry too quickly on top of this slightly powdery sunscreen texture. Oil Control: My face remains more shine free than were I to use other sunscreens. I didn't quite take note of the exact amount of oiliness controlled, but I think it shoud be about 1/3 better oil control compared to when I use other sunscreens. Breakouts: Have yet to occur and I hope it never will. Definately will repurchase if it doesn't break me out, AND continues to perform as well as it is currently working. Is This Product Worth Your Moolah? Yes, considering the very reasonable price and good quality. Performs better than a sunblock that costs 5 times its price. UPDATE: After having using the product several times now, I would like to include other feedback on it. Amongest my top complaints would be it did broke me out eventually, especially at the cheek area so I can't use it as often as I used to, which was everyday. For this, I would take a lippie off. In the end, I ended up purchasing a full size of Sunplay's sunscreen because it didn't broke me out.

Sunscreen -Shiseido - Gentle Sun Protection Lotion for Sensitive skin and Babies
rated 2 of 5
Aniger86 1/24/2009 9:07:00 AM

*Update: I've since went back to this product after stopping to use it for some time. I was facing the problem of dehydrated skin so I thought this oilier sunscreen would work better and I was right.* I used this for the first time very recently, and the follows are some of my observations- (1) The texture is liquidy, but not as light as textures from Sunkiller and Sunplay's sunscreens. Its more towards a thick liquidy texture as opposed to a light runny texture. However, because its quite a thick liquid, it covers the required areas with lesser layers of applications. (2) Application (I apply about 3 layers)- one must be careful to apply a light layer and layer on quickly so as not to let the initial layer dry off and cause problems with application of layers above the initial one. (3) I do find the sunscreen quite heavy feeling on the skin, as well as quite sticky. What I do is I apply my undereye concealer first while leaving the sunscreen to be absorbed and then taking a tissue paper afterwards to blot off any excess so the product won't feel as sticky on the skin. (4) This is my favourite part- Power foundation applies surprising well on this product. The powder looks *very* natural and light on the skin, making it look as if its a second skin as opposed to a put on foundation. I'm not sure for liquid foundations as I have yet to try. (5) It also controls oil on the face well, which I like. I wore it for 7-8 hrs, spending considerable time walking under humid weather, and my makeup held up quite well. (6) I blotted around the 6th hour of wearing the product, and I noticed my nose is not as oily as usual, I think I see a decrease of up to 65% in oil reduction. (7) Makeup's staying power- A little of the foundation on my nose did come off. The worse hit areas of makeup being dissolved by the oils on my face are the upper lip and chin. Other than that, I think the foundation stayed on well on the face, even on the forehead, an area that can get very oily for me, so I'm quite satisfied. (8) Removal- Having read the concerns of removal of this product on the reviews here, I took special note of this. When I purchased this item, the SA told me that this can be removed by regular makeup remover and would not require an oil based one, which is the reason why I bought it. I first removed the product using Kiss Me cleansing gel, a sunscreen and makeup remover. However, I don't think the product was completely taken off, so I used my oil based Loreal eye makeup remover, and with three tries, I think I removed the product as best as I can. My conclusion on removal is that an oil based product needs to be used to remove this product although the SAs claim otherwise. (9) After effects- I can't be sure yet if this product will break me out. I'll update if it does. But for now, I'm happy with this as it helps my foundation apply much better, as well as reduce the oiliness on my face well. UPDATE: After several times of having used this product, I have other comments I would like to add on to what I've said. - I felt most of the observations made when I used the product for the first time were inaccurate judgments of it. Below's comments are directed to what is already written above, the same no. bullet will indicate the same points that I've elaborated on earlier and my most recent thoughts about the points I've made. 2) Application: I find application of the product much harder than I first thought it to be. The sunscreen is sticky, so you need to work it in very carefully and it takes me some good 15-20mins to apply it, I nearly gave up on some mornings. Even with careful application, I have sometimes screwed up and that results with my makeup applying badly on top of the sunscreen. 3) Absorption of product: This product does not absorb at all, it just sits on the skin feeling sticky. More annoyingly, even after trying to blot of the stickiness, its still quite sticky feeling and makes my fringe quite icky, this is a real big pet peeve of my. 4) I have no idea what happened to it after my first time using the product. After that first time, my makeup doesn't apply as smoothly and it even appears cakey on top of the sunscreen sometimes. 5) Oil control- It wasen't as good as I first thought it was either. My face basically felt sticky and oily with the sunscreen on, it didn't help with controlling oiliness much. 9) After effects- It did break me out in the end. Conclusion: I think the sunscreen performed so well the first time I used it was because my skin really was just having a good day, and that the sunscreen itself doesn't deserve much praising as after several times of usage now, I know the product much better. As for the sun protection factor, I highly doubt its performance as well. When using it, I was generally indoors whole day, with the exception of two 10mins walk under the afternoon hot sun each day, and the sunscreen didn't seem to offer much benefit, making me darker even with limited sun exposure. I will not be repurchasing.

Moisturizers -L'Oreal - Hydrafresh Aquagel
rated 3 of 5
Aniger86 1/21/2009 3:58:00 AM

I went through two bottles of this. Its a nice lightweight cream/gel moisturizer that comes in a pump bottle which I like as its quite easy to control the amount you want to squeeze out. Its vaule for money too, not costly at all, and lasted me for quite awhile, though I have to admit I don't use it everyday, only as and when I need it. when applied on skin, it feels refreshing and light, with a lovely scent, but I find it does make the face appear quite shiny although the skin doesn't feel oily.
