Fragrances -Calvin Klein - CK One

This is meant to be a unisex fragrance, but as the other reviewer pointed out, its really too sweet for men but its ok for women. Its a light, slightly sweet citrusy scent, perfect for summer wear, where you want a fresh fragrance rather than a light heavy scent. The bottle is a bit bulky and plain IMO, but I guess thats how it can be marketed towards both sexes. I've marked this as a possible repurchase, as I love fresh fragrances but I wouldnt purposely buy this in shops and would like a cheapo alternative

Blush -Shu Uemura - Glow On - Orange 55
rated 4 of 5
ihatespots 7/28/2009 11:18:00 AM

I have the P Orange 55, which has the pearl finish. I have read so many great reviews for Shu blushes so even when I didnt LOVE the swatches when I was at the counter, I still bought 2 of the blushes to see if it looks better on my cheeks. However, whilst the colour is very pretty - looks very bright and orange in the pan but gives a subtle hint of orange on the cheeks- I found that the colour is too subtle and when I do load it on, it looks too orangey. I like how Shu blushes gives a very light flushed look, but my cheeks are quite pink anyway so I like pigmented blushes that actually show up on my cheeks (thats why I like NARS much better). If I used a full coverage foundation (which covers all my redness), I would definately reach for this blush, as I like the subtle finish of it. But as I the foundation I use has light-med coverage, I hardly ever reach for Shu blushes.

Fragrances -Lancome - Miracle
rated 4 of 5

A floral scent, which at first is sweet but after a while is quite powdery. The smell lasts quite a while and is good for day and evening wear. The scent isnt powerful and is very feminine, suitable for the young and old. However, if I had this perfume when I was in school- under 18- I wouldnt have liked it, as its too feminine. If it wasnt that I RIS, I wouldnt have personally bought this in the shops, as I dont usually like powdery smells. So thats why I have put it as a no-repurchase. However, I like the simple design of the bottle - I have the mini version.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Eyeshadow in Modest Tone
rated 1 of 5
ihatespots 7/23/2009 4:20:00 PM

I didnt even know I had this eyeshadow until I was clearing out my makeup stash. In the pan, it was a very nice pale bone beige shade with no shimmers but not matte- satin finish. On my eyes, it applied very smoothly but no colour showed up at all, none whatsoever. It was as if I had nothing on, so I'm guessing its a base colour? But even when I want a base colour, I wouldnt reach for this as I could quite easily get a bit of loose powder or any cream shadow. I see absolutely no use for this eyeshadow at all.

Lip Gloss -Shu Uemura - Gloss Unlimited
rated 2 of 5
ihatespots 7/23/2009 4:16:00 PM

I only bought this to redeem a coupon or something from the Shu counter in HK. It was the cheapest product from the counter that I actually use. When I was swatching it, it wasnt too sticky and the colour- OR580N was a very nice neutral peachy pink with no apparent shimmers. However, when I got to using it, the colour doesnt last and it was slightly sticky and made my lips rather dry. The applicator was a bit weird too. Its a strange pointy shape that doesnt pickup gloss much. For an expensive gloss, it certainly didnt live up to my standards.

Makeup Brushes -Alima - Blush Brush 17
rated 1 of 5
ihatespots 7/18/2009 9:59:00 AM

I went through an Alima period and bought a lot of their products, which none seem to have worked out except for their foundation brush. I've not used mnay blush brushes but this by far is the worse one. Very disappointed by the quality of it. I prefer blush brushes to be either big and fluffy or countour/domed and fluffy but this Alima brush is floppy and limp, its very streaky on my face and just doesnt blend my blush into my contouring shade.

Polishes -China Glaze - VIII
rated 4 of 5
ihatespots 7/17/2009 10:24:00 AM

A few months ago, I swapped for this polish but it lost in the mail and I've been lemming for it ever since so I waited til a couple weeks ago before actually buying it on ebay. Its a lovely dark aubergine colour and is very true to the bottle colour. Its very easy to apply, no streaks and dried fairly quickly without the help of a drying top coat. The colours lasts a good few days before any major chips. Its a no repurchase for me, as I think its easy to find a cheaper substitute for this colour so up for swap it goes

Blush -Shu Uemura - Glow On M Pink 33E
rated 1 of 5
ihatespots 7/17/2009 8:13:00 AM

A natural matte pink colour with finely milled powder and a soft texture. But its so natural that the colour barely shows up on me (I'm nc25ish). Even when swatching the product, I need 3+ swipes for the colour to show on my arms which is lighter than my face. However, when I use plenty of the blush and load it on my cheeks, its too pink. It could be becasue my cheeks have a pink flush anyway so the pink colour doesnt show and when I put too much pink, it just looks red. I had a similar thing happening with the NARS orgasm too. Thus, I'm not keen on pink blushes anymore

Eyeliner -Aveda - Eyeliner
rated 1 of 5
ihatespots 7/17/2009 7:53:00 AM

Review for eye definer in black orchid I RIS this eye liner and when I tried it on it was a lovely true black colour and applied very easily, hence the 1 lippie. However, as others have commented it really does smear and smudge badly. I had a bad case when I used it for a big do and the pictures I took were terrible, as the liner on my top lash line were smudged onto my oily lids and near my bottom lash line so I ended up wth racoon eyes.

Masks -Unlisted Brand - Pinkey blackhead off and moisture face mask
rated 3 of 5
ihatespots 7/12/2009 8:25:00 PM

Taken from sasa.com Pinkey Blackhead off & Moisture Face Mask is a peel-off type skin purifying product. It thoroughly removes sebum and blackheads, tightens skin pores and keeps skin refreshed. how to use it After facial cleansing, apply Blackhead off & Moisture Face Mask on face and peel it off after 15-20 minutes. I am on a peel off face mask kick and after trying the Shiseido one (check out my review for that), I bought this Pinkey one. Its only available at sasa.com and whenever I come to place an order, its always out of stock, so I'm guessing its pretty popular so I'm suprised there werent many reviews on beauty blogs and on here. I've only used the mask once and its just average. Its priced at 1.30USD and its tiny- 30ml but fr that price, its extremely affordable. The mask itself is a black goop which can get messy. In comparison to the Shiseido peel off mask, Pinkey has a clean fresh scent, is easier to remove, tugs less on the skin, easier to wash off and waiting time is less, it dries up in less than 20minutes and its not as drying. However, same as the Shiseido one, whilst it does remove flakes, it doesnt remove any of my stubborn blackheads. Even though, I cant see any blackheads on the dried off mask, I will consider purchasing this mask again, but I might try other brands before making a repurhcase.

Lotions/ Creams -Jergens - Skin Firming Moisturizer
rated 2 of 5
ihatespots 7/12/2009 8:08:00 PM

Based on the reviews here, it seems as though the UK Jergens are slightly different from the US. Jergens was introduced into the UK this year and I first heard about it on a beauty blog. I have read many good reviews of the lotion and picked up the skin firmining lotion with pomegranate extract from Tescos and I'm not too impressed by it. The smell is gorgeous and I love that its in a tube with a flip top cap. However, it doesnt moisturise my skin well, doesnt absorb that quickly, too pricey (just under £4 for 200ml), I think at least 1/3 of it is gone after one week of usage and last of all, it doesnt do what it claims to. It actually says on the tube that a difference can be seen in 2 uses and yes, that is a lie as I cannot see a difference to my skin with a weeks usage. Skin isnt noticably firmer and cellulite is still here. It may be a bit early to say whether its effective but the fact that they actually write that there's a difference to the skin in 2 uses makes me think that I can get firmer skin in a few days. I'm going to use the lotion up and see if it works but I'll most probably not buy again as I can get cheaper lotions that actually moisturise my skin.

Moisturizers -Philosophy - Hope in a Jar - for all skin types
rated 2 of 5
ihatespots 7/8/2009 11:51:00 PM

Received a sample sachet of the moisturiser and have been using it on my neck for a few times but other than moisturising the skin, it doesnt firm or tighten my neck. The smell is awful, like burnt plastic and it lingers on too. After 5-6 hrs, I can still smell the odour so I cant imagine using it on my face.

Concealers -Sana - Make essence concealer
rated 3 of 5
ihatespots 7/6/2009 2:58:00 PM

I tested the product out in one of the dept stores in HK and it did seem to work wonders, as the dark circles seem to fade and it was so easy to apply. However, once ordering it on adambeauty.com and using it, my circles were still very visible. It does smooth out the fine lines I have and it says on that it works just like an eye cream, in that it has "good" ingredients but for my panda eyes, it works little.

Masks -Borghese - Fango Active Mud for Face and Body
rated 4 of 5
ihatespots 7/5/2009 9:12:00 PM

I felt like I needed a better deep cleaning clay mask other than the neutrogena one that I have, so after reading all the rave reviews here, I decided to try the tube version of the mask to test out. Even though its very expensive IMO, it turns out that its very good value for money, as the tube will last maybe 9 months-12months so the full sized tub of the mask will last over a year. The mask is a thick green mask which smells and feels cool and methol-y. It does sting my sensitive skin for maybe 30secs but after that, its fine. Its suggested that you should apply a tick layer of the mask and leave it on for 3-5 minutes. However, after doing this for the first couple of trys, it just doesnt do the job of deep cleaning into my pores. So, I left the mask on for 20 mins and not such a thick layer and this works for me, as it clears out the oils and impurites, makes my pores look smaller, softens and brightens my skin. I sometimes use it to spot treat overnight too and this does reduce the size of the pimples. I will definately continue to buy this mask as I think I can get it cheaper in HK.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Soba (Satin)
rated 3 of 5
ihatespots 7/4/2009 6:24:00 PM

I love neutrals as I think that they suit me best and its so simple to apply, cant go wrong with neutrals. Soba is a light warm brown with a few shimmers I read that its a good crease eyeshadow for nc25-35 by a beauty blogger but on me, it looks very orangey. I hate colours that are too warm, as it makes my eyes look too puffy and bulgy, and Soba does just that.
