Hair -Giovanni - 50/50 Balanced Shampoo

This was an ok product for me. It didn’t dry my hair, but it didn’t leave it feeling squeaky clean either. I alternate it with my clarifying shampoo. I do like the fact that it is natural, and not stripping. Fragrance is subtle and it doesn’t linger. I do think I’ll try Trader Joe’s one next, as it is similar in ingredients and it is half the price too. I’m not sure if I’ll repurchase this again once it’s out, as it did not impress me.

Gels/Soaps -Jason Natural Cosmetics - Satin Shower Body Wash - Tea Tree
rated 4 of 5
lexymiss 7/31/2008 10:28:00 PM

I really like this body wash. The first few times I used it, it felt a little different on my skin. A little prickly, almost like it irritated me a bit. But I continued using, and the uncomfortable feeling disappeared. I love it now. I doesn’t foam up as much as your other basic body washes, but it also doesn’t have all the chemicals those other washes have either, and that is a big plus. Two weeks ago I went on vacation out of state and used one of those little soaps that hotels give you, and boy….. did I notice a difference on my skin. My body was irritated, itchy, dry….you name it! As soon as I came back I used my Jason again, and my body felt relieved. It is really gentle and effective. Although it is pricier than others, the bottle does last a really long time so I can’t complain. The smell is really nice too, but it doesn’t last long on the body (I actually prefer that). I would definitely buy again. I'd like to try all the other scents! =)

Makeup Brushes -Bare Escentuals - Kabuki Brush
rated 1 of 5
lexymiss 7/31/2008 10:10:00 PM

This is a terrible brush. It scratched my skin awfully! All I ever got from this brush (and BE minerals really) was red, itchy, break out skin. Never again! Especially at this price. Do your skin a favor (and save some money along the way) and invest into EcoTools or Everyday Minerals brushes.

Samples -Everyday Minerals - Free Sample Makeup Kit [DISCONTINUED/REPLACED]
rated 5 of 5
lexymiss 7/22/2008 3:59:00 PM

Awesome service and great products. Can’t believe that they offer these little samples for free! Samples are seemingly small; however, they last a long time. You receive more than plenty of product to try it. I’ve used my foundation about six or seven different times, and still have plenty left. Some people have troubles finding their shade, but I was lucky enough to find the prefect one on the first try. I generally don’t go by description. Since I’m very pale, I got three different shades of the lightest foundations, and one was a great match. Yay! I am definitely returning and buying the regular size, along with some blushes and brushes. My skin is very sensitive, and this works like a charm. I’ve tried mineral make up before, and ended up regretting it, and I was very afraid to try this initially. After some research, I found how minimalistic their ingredients are (mostly zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, which agree with most skin types well, especially sensitive), and will not look elsewhere! I would not order another free sample, only because I’ve found a match and would feel like I was ripping the company off. The prices on their products are awesome, and they sell samples for more than reasonable price for me to go this route instead. All in all, awesome service and great product!

Blush -Everyday Minerals - tea time
rated 5 of 5
lexymiss 7/6/2008 1:49:00 AM

I like this color a lot. I’m very fair, prone to redness, so I shy away from blush colors that are pink or red. This is more natural, more like a light bronzer than a blush. But unlike bronzers (that usually look orangey and fake on my pale skin), this gives me a subtle definition and glow. Definitely recommend, especially for fair skin!

Makeup Brushes -Bare Escentuals - Maximum Coverage Concealer Brush
rated 4 of 5

Surprisingly, this is a very good brush. I got a starter kit a while ago, and while I quit using everything else, I did keep this brush. Unlike other BE brushes, this one is actually soft, does a great job, and it does not irritate my skin. A keeper. Everything else from the kit though ----> trash! I do think they run pricey though. I will try Everyday Minerals brushes next.

Tinted Moisturizer -Kiss My Face - Tinted Moisturizer [DISCONTINUED]
rated 2 of 5
lexymiss 6/12/2008 12:04:00 AM

Bought this on a whim, without consulting MUA. Should have known better! I love Kiss My Face products, but I was so dissapointed with this particular one. Went on globby, made my skin splotchy! It made all the lines of my face look a lot bigger and more noticalbe; deeper, and I don't have all that many to begin with. It also felt rather drying and I got some flakies too, even thoug I used my beloved Atopalm underneath. Went right back to Longs where I got it from! The search continues.......

Sunscreen -Neutrogena - Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 70
rated 2 of 5
lexymiss 6/11/2008 11:59:00 PM

Thank God I tried this on my arms first! It went on heavy and thick, but it did absorb eventually. Dried pretty good too (at least on the arms - have not tried it on the face). I love the high spf and ppd, but by the third day I had these tiny little bumps ALL OVER my arms!!! UGH....... It broke me out like crazy. Almost like allergic reaction!. It's been a few days since I stopped using it and the bumps are still here. Thanks Neutrogena! Crap....... Can you imagine if I put this on my face?!!!!

Treatments (Eye) -Kiss My Face - Eye Witness Eye Cream
rated 4 of 5
lexymiss 6/11/2008 12:17:00 PM

I got this on recommendation of one of the MUA users from the skin care board as a cheap but effective eye cream. Was not disappointed. It works great. Not too thick, not too thin. Applies nicely and absorbs well. Very moisturizing, yet gentle on my sensitive skin. Noticed a big difference in softening my very fine lines around the eyes. Ingredient list is wonderful! Great product and an even better price! I’m almost out so I will definitely repurchase (and I barely ever finish a product!!) Make sure to use it first, and then apply other creams/lotions over it. Great packaging too! Can't beat the price!

Shave Products -Kiss My Face - Moisture Shave
rated 5 of 5
lexymiss 6/11/2008 12:09:00 PM

I got this product when I ran out of my reg. shaving cream because of the rave reviews. Thank you ladies!!! This product is wonderful. I have sensitive skin, and had to be picky with the razors that I get, because almost everything irritates my skin, strips it, makes it bleed, breaks it out, etc. I know, it sucks. My ghost white legs even turn blotchy purple for half an hour after I shave! But then after I bought Moisture Shave, I realize it wasn’t the blades it was the shaving cream I was using (Skintimate-different flavors). With this, I can use any razor, single or up to four blades if I wanted to, no break outs, no irritation, no funky bumps. Just smooth skin with a close shave. What a difference! And what a relief! It doesn’t really foam up; soaponifies if you will – makes the skin slinky upon application. Needed to get used to it. I find that a little bit of product goes a long way too! I got one in vanilla, so the scent is just wonderful! Just repurchased a big pump bottle. HG for me!!!

Lip Treatments -Sally Hansen - Healing Butter for Lips
rated 5 of 5
lexymiss 6/11/2008 11:56:00 AM

Ok. Funny story. Decided to do some serious cleaning in my house. Moved all the furniture to steam clean the carpets, and guess what I found behind the night stand? Healing Butter for Lips from probably a year ago or so! Almost gone, but there was enough left for me to fall in love with it all over again. Even after all this time it works wonders! Scent is all gone (pooey), but it is a wonderful product. I use it at night before I go to bed, and in the morning before I split for work. My lips are soft, and most importantly I have NO DRY FLAKES when using this! Awesome!!! I’ve used some other products and do love a lot of them, but I have to admit that this is definitely (by far and large) the most effective! The only con I find with this product is the packaging. I wish it wasn’t a little jar, it is hard to get on your lips without using you fingers (and I hate sticking my fingers in it). Not too hygienic. But definitely worth the money!!!! Will repurchase as soon as this little bit is gone.

Shampoo -Paula's Choice - All Over Hair & Body Shampoo
rated 3 of 5
lexymiss 6/11/2008 11:48:00 AM

Have to admit I was disappointed with this one. I expected it to be very gentle yet effective. But the very second ingredient in it is SLS!!! Duh! It does work ok for me, but nothing spectacular, and for an “ok” result it is way too much money IMO. I do like the fact that it is fragrance free, so it doesn’t flake my scalp like some other shampoos do. But to be honest, I rarely ever reach for it…. Just sits in my shower….. I guess that means it won’t be a repurchase here! As for the gentleness, try Trader Joe’s shampoo if you’re really looking for SLS free product. Also, it costs about $10 cheaper than Paula’s Choice. Sorry Paula!

Treatments -Avene - Eluage Cream 30 ml
rated 5 of 5
lexymiss 5/14/2008 9:59:00 PM

I’ve started using this about two months ago. It is a retinol product (retinaldehyde, to be precise), so it will take some time for you to see the results. I did go through a phase where the area around my eyes looked WORSE, but I continued applying anyways. Other than this, I am happy to say that I had no other problems or reactions, no peeling nor redness and I am very thankful for that. (Granted, I did use Neutrogena’s retinol product prior to this, so this may have helped). I started applying every other night from the beginning, and still do so. The consistency is very heavy, rich and oily in a way, but that didn’t bother my skin like I was afraid it would. It does have some fragrance, but no irritation due to this either! And the fragrance wears of IMO. Also, the bottle lasted me almost two months, and I still have some left! Economical too! Overall, this is a wonderful product. I only wish I took the before and after pics. I had one deep, long, wrinkle across my forehead, and after using Eluage for almost two months, I can barely see it! Seriously! My original plan was to use Eluage, and than go on to stronger RX version of retinol products, but I’m not sure if I want to do that now. I think I’ll stick with Eluage for a year or so.

Eye Shadow -Revlon - Colorstay 12-Hour Eyeshadow Quad "Neutral Khakis"
rated 3 of 5
lexymiss 5/14/2008 9:46:00 PM

I bought a few of these quads (in other colors) as I really like the way some colors looked in it. Now that I’ve tried them, I’m kinda torn. The colors are beautiful, and the application is silky. They don’t crease. But the pigments are very, very light. What you see is not what you’ll get once you apply it on your skin. And my skin is very pale to begin with, you’d think at least on me they’d be visible!!!! I tried applying with wet brush, and that helped a little, but not that drastically. With this quad especially, you can't tell I wear make up! I will use these, but I’m not sure that I would repurchase again. The search continues!

Moisturizers -Eucerin - Extra Protective Moisture Lotion SPF30
rated 4 of 5
lexymiss 5/14/2008 9:36:00 PM

This is a great product from Eucerin. I have very sensitive skin, and bought this on recommendation on Dr. Baumann’s book for my skin type. And it delivers. It is not heavy nor greasy, and I don’t think it leaves too much of a white cast. It absorbs good, and most importantly to me, it doesn’t make my redness prone skin flush ~ quite the contrary! The consistancy is pretty good too, and allows for good application; no tugging nor pulling on your skin. I always keep this on hand, but because it doesn’t offer much UVA protection (one lippie off for that), I will be looking for another, European facial sunscreen. Still, if my skin ever flares up, I go *back to basics*, and this product is definitely one of those *basics*. UPDATE 2-13-09: I switched to Glycolix Elite spf 30 a few months ago and like it better. It is more stable and contains no chemical sunscreens. This is still a good option though.
