Highlighters -MAC - Mineralize Skinfinish in Petticoat [DISCONTINUED]
ginny133 7/14/2010 7:38:00 PM
Boy how could you possibly resist this highlighter from Mac? I fell in love with it when I saw the collection launched and determined to try it at the store. The Mac lady dusted just a tiny bit on my cheek bone as it is highly pigmented. And the red/pink/white/gold colors make it pretty difficult to create an adequate look. Well but the Mac lady pulled it off and I loved it how I looked in the mirror so I bought it without a second thought. The next morning I tried to use the same technique by swirling around the pan and dusted on my face, and boy it just looked so orangy on me. I swiped it off with tissue and there is it, a perfect summer glow highlighter! So I guess if you have this highlighter make sure you don't apply to much because it'll turn out scary! Dust out the excess powder from the brush before gently applying it on the cheekbone to create that healthy summer look. This is such a beautiful yet tricky color soI'm still trying to play around with it to get a hand of it. Thought about returning it because it is not going to be an everyday color, but decided to keep it for the sake of it since it's a limited color. Surely it'll go out of stock pretty soon and you'll have to pay obscene money to get it at ebay!

Blush -MAC - Mineralize Blush - Happy Together
ginny133 7/14/2010 7:29:00 PM
This is one of the most natural and flattering cheek color I've used. I got it with Hang Loose from Mac In the Groove collection and I totally love it! This morning I put it on wanting to create a summer bronzing look, and it just worked out beautifully. It gives me the healthy glow and creates the sun-kissed look that I am looking for on a hot summer day. I was concerned it'll turn out dark because it looks pretty earthy tone from the pan, but once you mix it with a nice brush it just blends in pretty well. The color stays on all day and so natural! Highly recommended this color so go get it if you haven't already done so!

Blush -MAC - Mineralize Blush - Hang Loose
ginny133 7/14/2010 7:25:00 PM
I was a bit hesitant to try this color at the store, as I'm not sure how to put the purple color on my cheek. But when the Mac lady brushed some on the back of her hand and it just looked amazing! I ended up buying it without even trying it. I went home and put it on the next morning, and it just looked lovely. The purple didn't show up that much on my cheek, but it is there being very subtle. It brightened up my face to give it a healthy glow. It turned out to be my favorite cheek color among my arsenal! I guess don't let the purple color scare you away because once mixing it with the light pink it will turn out beautiful and flattering for everyone! Great summer look!

Eye Shadow -Urban Decay - Deluxe Shadow Box
ginny133 7/9/2010 6:05:00 PM
I absolutely love these colors from Urban Decay! They are so vivid but not overly shimmering, flattering but not too bold. This morning I put on "Peace", the sea blue color and it looked absolutely stunning on me! It's the most beautiful blue I've ever seen. And what's better the color stays on all day. I tried "Graffiti" the other day (a vivid peacock green) and it's just as lovely. I'm going to explore the rest of the colors and am sure I'll love them all!

Blush -TheBalm - Hot Mama
ginny133 6/21/2010 1:37:00 PM
This blush is too much shimmery. My face is all shiny after a few dusts. It's good that I tried it at the store so I know it's not going to work for my oily/combo skin.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Paint Pot in Painterly
ginny133 6/18/2010 3:20:00 PM
I had really high hope on this paint pot but it didn't work for me. It is way too drying even on my oily lids. I tried rubbing it on the pot to sort of warm it up before putting it on my lids but still too drying. It instantly creased on my lids and became cakey. I had hard time spreading it out. The worst part is, it has no color at all! I know it's supposed to be a really lightly tinted color for neutral tone, but I looked no different at all before and after I put it on. If I want a neutral color or base color a $4 dollar eye shadow from Revlon will do the same trick. I'm sorry but this one is definitely not for me and I have to return it.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Paint Pot in Coral Crepe
ginny133 6/17/2010 2:21:00 PM
This is such an amazing color! I rushed over to Mac store after reading so many rave reviews and was startled to see the salmon/coral color at the pot, unsure if it'll look good on me. See I'm an Asian with yellow undertone so I have to be very careful doing coral color. I dabbed a bit on my eyelids and they turned out to be gorgeous on me! My entire face is brought back alive with my facial feature popping out! It doesn't make my eyes look swollen as some of the red/coral eye shadows do on me. In fact I think the color enhances the yellow tone on me and makes it a healthy glow. I bought it without a doubt and put it on the first time at work this morning. My coworker instantly noticed it and complimented how pretty I looked! The coral crepe paint pot is highly pigmented. A little dab and rub on the eye lids will do the trick. I think this will be my everyday eye color from now on and I'm so glad I could still find it (they are sold out at Mac website). If you can find it in your area BUY it!

Lipstick -MAC - Viva Glam Cyndi [DISCONTINUED]
ginny133 6/15/2010 5:53:00 PM
I'm an Asian with yellow tone so when I first tried the new Viva Glam Cyndi at the Mac counter I was hesitated, feeling sure it won't look good on me. But surprisingly it didn't look as bold as it looked from the tube and totally enhanced my facial feature! It is a color between bright coral and fuchsia which is usually what I would avoid, as it darkens my face. But the result is astonishing! It popped out my entire face and I definitely looked more alive. Now it is a tricky color to apply because in my opinion it is a highly pigmented lipstick. So the way I do it is to apply a thin coat on my lips then gradually layering it to the degree I like. It can be pretty bold the first application in the morning, but as the day goes on the color wears off and I have no problem reapply it. It can be worn for everyday at the office as well as going out for dinner/party. I think this lip shade will look flattering on every girl! Highly recommended!

Cleansers -Trilogy - Balancing Gel Cleanser
ginny133 4/29/2010 9:09:00 PM
You can't go wrong with Trilogy. I've tried quite a few of their products and none has disappointed me so far. Their products truly stand out with simple yet effective ingredients, giving you consistent performance and does what it says. I've been avoiding gel cleanser ever since I'm over 32 as they tend to dry out my face, even though I'm an oily/combo skin. I've been using a few good organic cream cleansers and am happy with them. But since summer is around the corner in Southern Cal, I want to have some lighter cleanser for the season. I bought Trilogy Gel Cleanser from a sale and tried it tonight the first time. Again it does not let me down. The gel cleanser comes in a watery/creamy texture upon releasing on my palm. I used a quarter size for my entire face. It foams up quickly and very gentle, not stripping your face as gel cleanser tends to do. It cleansed my face very well, with the Trilogy trademark scent. very soothing and yet deep cleaning. I rinsed my face with lukewarm water and there it is, a squeaky clean face in the mirror, not drying at at all! Another good product from Trilogy I have to say. The packaging is in a convenient tube which you get whatever amount you want and good for travel. The tube is huge with about 200ml. I think it'll probably last me for a year if I only use it at night. An excellent cleanser and a good deal!

Moisturizers -Bobbi Brown - Vitamin Enriched Face Base
ginny133 4/7/2010 12:48:00 PM
I have a mixed feeling about this cream. Don't get me wrong, as I really like it and enjoy putting it on my face. I just don't know how to incorporate it into my daily skincare routine. I prefer a day cream/lotion with SPF, which this "face base" doesn't have. I don't feel like it's a "moisturizer" but a primer per se. And if I put this on in the morning, I'll have to apply sunblock which tends to make my face too oily to put on any makeup. At night, I prefer using some night cream with anti aging or repairing effects, or some really good hydrating cream, which then again the face base does not exactly do that. I love how it glides on my face, its fresh scent, and everything else about this cream but I just don't know when to use it! It feels redundant to my daily regimen, even though I do like it. So in the end I just returned it to the store and kept the hydrating cream from BB as well. But I'm sure I'll still purchase it when BB has this 25% off deal at their website, just to stock up the item!

Moisturizers -Bobbi Brown - Hydrating Face Cream
ginny133 4/7/2010 12:35:00 PM
I can't say for the bad reviews here but I am surprised to see so many of them! I finally had a chance to try this hydrating cream from BB and I really love it! It is not greasy to start with which caters to my need, as my face can be oily and yet as I enter into my 30s my face tends to get dry sometimes so I still need some good moisturizer which can provide enough hydration with light texture. I think this one does a pretty good job in providing moisture to my face. What draws me into it is its soothing scent. It makes me look forward to putting it on every night, even though I have other brand name facial creams sitting there. This is how good this hydrating cream is! Sometimes you simply want to use a certain products not because they provide any astonishing results but you just look forward to incorporating them into your daily regimen. All in all, the cream is a fairly good moisturizer, with reasonable price as well. But I don't think it has any anti aging effect so if you are looking for one with anti aging this might not be a good candidate. Or you can do like I do to put an anti aging serum prior to applying this cream.

Treatments -Christian Dior - Capture Totale One Essential Skin Boosting Super Serum
ginny133 4/7/2010 12:22:00 PM
I bought the Dior One Essential Serum last X'mas and have been using it since (yes it lasts pretty long!). I am a serum believer and am drawn to all kinds of anti-aging/multi-functional serum and this one falls into the category. I feel that every woman should have one really good serum in her daily regimen. So when this one came out I didn't hesitate at all and went straight and bought it. I'm not going to evaluate bullet by bullet of its miraculous claims on the packaging, as they all have millions of fancy selling points. What I do see is the serum makes my face smooth and even toned, makes it a good base for my following moisturizer and makeup application. My face does brighten a bit after putting the serum on, but the effect is just temporary. But it does enliven my face and serve a good pick-me-up kind of serum/elixir. Yes, you can feel the instant smoothness on your face after one application, but like the previous reviewer said, it does not draw toxins like a vacuum as it claims it should, as I still have this black head on my nose and still break out a bit. But overall, this is a fairly good facial serum to kick start your day, as it brightens, smoothes out, and enlivens my face. As to anti aging, I'm not sure if I can justify its effect as I have put on other treatments at night so really can't single out. But I do believe the serum helps smooth out my laughing line without aggravating any existing ones. So I think this serum is worth a try if you are a serum user. I know the price is ridiculous but once in a while you gotta try a superstar product like this.

Cleansers -Dermalogica - PreCleanse
ginny133 4/1/2010 12:31:00 AM
I bought the cleansing oil and tried it tonight the first time, and decided I love it! My facialist has been using Dermalogica for over 10 years and this is what she uses to take off my makeup before each facial treatment. Therefore when I used it tonight it reminded me of the relaxing facial experience. And it really did cleanse well when it comes to oil cleanser, without being too greasy as other cleansing oils out there. It took out my makeup well and left a good clean feel afterwards. I think I'll be sticking with this cleansing oil for a while and recommend to others!

Cleansers -Yes To Carrots - C is for Clean Gentle Exfoliating Facial Cleanser
ginny133 3/27/2010 12:35:00 AM
The best exfoliating cleanser I've used, ever. The exfoliating beads are very fine and yet doing a great job in exfoliating my face. I usually use it in the morning when I feel my face is a bit rough and dull, and I always have a squeaky clean face after using it. I also love how it smells too. This is great and mild enough for a daily exfoliator for people with combo/oily skin like me. Whenever I travel my face tends get oilier and build up more black heads. This cleanser definitely exfoliates away my dead skin and evens out the complexion. Love it!
