Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Lemon Juice
777designz 7/18/2011 6:11:00 PM
I'm reviewing using lemon juice on NAILS so I can't comment on how it works for skin problems or lightening hair etc.. I've read many comments on MUA and nail polish blogs saying that lemon juice will lighten staining caused from polish. Since Bubble White and whitening mouthwash didn't help I figured I'd give it a shot. 1st time I tried this I squeezed lemons in a cup and dunked my fingertips into it. After about 3 minutes my fingers began to burn so after 5 minutes I took my fingers out. I gently scrubbed my nails with a nail brush and soap to remove the lemon juice. I compared it to my left hand which I hadn't soaked yet and there was no difference at all. 2nd time I tried lemon juice I soaked cotton balls in lemon juice, placed it on my nails, and wrapped with foil pieces to hold the cotton balls on. I figured this way my nails can soak longer without hurting my skin. After 10 minutes I checked my nails and they looked the same color. After 15 minutes I still didn't see any less staining compared to my other hand so I gave up. When I washed my hands I noticed my nails were peeling up in strips! Uggh, I wish I never tried this, my nails are ruined. Not to mention not a bit whiter! *runs off and cries*

Polishes -Revlon - Matte Suede - Powder Puff
777designz 7/18/2011 5:46:00 PM
I really disliked this polish. The only reason I'm not rating it a 1 is because it is unique and probably would be lovely layered over a soft white. I've tried wearing this 2 times. The first time I wore it without topcoat which was a disaster because it never completely dried and I dented it and got sheetmarks about 14 hours later. Second time I applied 3 coats, topped with quick drying top coat (Seche Vite) and then applied a fourth coat of polish on top. This helped with the drying problem but it looks so odd matte as it's not very matte at all. It looks more like rubber and the shimmer is nearly invisible without topcoat. It is incredibly streaky and even at 4 coats had some very noticeable bald patches and streaks. So like I mentioned before I would avoid it unless you want to layer it over another color. I think it might be easier to use another polish with blue sparkles and top with a mattifying topcoat like Essie Matte About You.

Polishes -Revlon - Top Speed Nail Enamel - Royal

I love the color and the formula, but oh my goodness, that smell! It's like skunks and old cigarettes had a baby! It's really hard to get past the smell. As far as the formula it goes on thick and smooth, like a thicker version of the OPI Sorbets. At one coat it still looks somewhat jelly-like on the nail and like the bottle color but I couldn't get it to go on even enough in a single coat. At 2 coats it looks much darker than the bottle and is completely opaque, losing that lovely jelly quality I wanted. If you're looking for a deep navy polish you will love it. However if you're expecting a jelly you probably will be disappointed unless you add some clear to it.

Lip Treatments -eos - Lip Balm Sphere - Summer Fruit
777designz 7/3/2011 4:54:00 AM
I bought the Honeysuckle Honeydew and Summer Fruit when they were on sale 2/$5 at Ulta. I've heard so many people exclaiming how this is the best lip balm ever so I have been very eager to try this for a long time. I should have trusted my gut instict to avoid this since I've had such bad luck with EOS products in the past. Much like their shave cream this provides no moisture at all. After a few days of using it my lips started to get drier. Soon after I started using it I noticed the texture on the outside got kind of hard, making it difficult to apply. Maybe this is a nit-picky but the huge round shape bothers me.. It's so awkward to apply and takes up a ton of space. Forget about ever sticking it in your pocket! Makes me wonder, didn't anyone ever test this to see how functional a big round chapstick is to use?!

Hair Removal -eos - Shave Cream Ultra Moisturizing Pomegranate Raspberry
777designz 7/3/2011 4:27:00 AM
I recieved a sample of this through a promotion on their website. I've always been looking for my holy grail shave cream. Skintimate makes my legs itch after I shave...Gillette is nice and thick and doesn't irritate my skin, but I always wish it was a little more slippery and had better packaging. From their description, the EOS shave cream sounded like just what I needed. Unfortunately the consistency of this cream is completely wrong for shaving. I get that it's not a lathering cream, but it's so thin and not soapy at all; much more like shaving with lotion. It just isn't lubricating enough. I feel like I have to pile this stuff on so my razor will glide across my skin, but even then it still doesn't help much. I use an electric razor so I pretty much never nick myself shaving. Somehow my razor catches on my skin when I used this product. Not sure how that's even possible, but I've snagged my skin so bad it bled. It also is very hard to rinse off my razor. Normally when I shave my legs feel soft afterwards but they don't when I use this. Despite what they claim it isn't moisturizing at all. I highly suggest avoiding this product.

Makeup Brushes -E.L.F. - Defining/Angled Eye Brush

I found this brush to be too soft and fluffy for applying eyeshadow to the crease of my eyes. It seems to throw the eyeshadow all over and makes it hard to get enough color concentrated where I need it. They really need to make the bristles more dense.

Moisturizers -Clinique - Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion
777designz 6/28/2011 4:56:00 PM
I received a sample of this with as a free gift with a perfume purchase. I'm so glad I didn't pay for a bottle of this because it was pretty awful. It is very thin and didn't moisturize my face at all. Nope. All it did was make my face feel slimy and give me pimples (like I need more! thanks). I once tried it in the morning after washing my face and before applying my makeup. My foundation did not want to stick to my face at all. A few hours later when I was at school I noticed it looked like my makeup was melting off. Yuck! I really can't believe this stuff is so popular.

Polishes -New York Color - In a New York Minute Quick Dry Polish - Flat Iron Green
777designz 6/28/2011 4:46:00 PM
I guess I'm in the minority but I dislike this polish. I heard this is a dupe for Nars Zulu but it seems more yellow toned, which isn't flattering to me. What bothered me the most is the formula. At 2 coats it's still very thin and streaky, but it still looks green. It finally evens out at 3 coats but it looks black. I'm thinking of using this to franken with...maybe add a hint of a lighter green or maybe some clear to make it more jelly-like and less dark at 3 coats.

Misc Beauty Tools -Clean & Clear - Oil Absorbing Sheets
777designz 6/28/2011 4:39:00 PM
I love these! Unlike other blotting sheets that leave a powdery coating on your face, these are plastic with no powder. The plastic sheet absorbs any oil on your face. For me this is perfect because it leaves my face looking matte, like I just applied my makeup. If your face looks a little shiny then I'd recommend applying your own powder after blotting your face. This will help your powder go on without being blotchy and keep it from changing the texture of your makeup from your face oils. A few people have commented that it takes off some of their makeup. I've noticed this only happens if I use an oil-based product, or because my face was so oily and sweaty the oils already "shoved" the makeup away from my skin. So make sure you use oil-free makeup, and use the sheets when your face starts getting a little oily, not when your makeup is starting to come off your face.

Lip Treatments -New York Color - Lip Sliders Tinted Lip Balm ] ] [DISCONTINUED]
777designz 6/28/2011 3:22:00 PM
I found these on clearance at CVS so I believe they are now discontinued. I bought 3 colors - Sugar Baby (reddish jelly), Sugar Angel (peachy orange creme), and Sugar Fairy (light pink creme with barely visible pink shimmer). Sugar Baby adds a nice light cherry tint to my lips, similar to cherry chapstick. I was scared Sugar Angel might look really odd since it looks pretty bright orange, but on my lips it gives a nice warm almost peach color. It's very light and if you apply only one coat it's barely noticeable. Sugar Fairy was the only disappointment. Unlike the other 2 colors which are quite pigmented if you apply enough, Sugar Fairy has no color on my lips. The pretty pink shimmer disappears too. I like the formula on these. They have a thick, sticky texture that doesn't melt away too soon and feels smooth and moisturizing on my lips. The ingredients are mostly natural oils, so it really does make your lips softer. The only negative I could find is packaging. I really hate to use my fingers to apply the product. When I'm out and my hands aren't clean I can't reapply it unless I want to contaminate the whole package. Not to mention it leaves my finger all sticky. These are really perfect for summer to give a nice light hint of color to your lips, or with a sweep of lipstick over them to make a lighter, lip balm version of your favorite lipstick.

Masks -Unlisted Brand - Aspirin Mask
777designz 6/28/2011 2:56:00 PM
I have mixed feelings about the aspirin mask. It definitely has it's pluses and minuses, so I'll tell you my experience and how to use it best and let you come up with your own opinion if this is for you. I tried this mask hoping to help with my acne and the redness and scarring left from past acne. It does not help with whiteheads or regular acne at all. However I did notice it helps reduce some of the swelling in cystic acne, and make scars less visible. It won't eliminate cystic acne completely, but it's good for taking down the size a bit. Make sure you only use it every few day else it seems to aggravate acne even more. If you ever use it and it doesn't seem to do much or looks bigger that's a big sign the stage your pimple is at the mask won't help and may make it worse. When I first tried using it I applied it all over my face and rubbed it around like a scrub when I rinsed it off. I noticed I broke out in whiteheads a day or two later. I think it's because it has a coarse texture and is too abrasive on the skin. not exactly what I wanted when I'm trying to get rid of my pimples! Because of this I try to not rub it on my face and gently rinse it off when I remove it. I only rub on the spots that are acne scars. I tried mixing the aspirin with just water, and another time with face soap but in a couple minutes it starts flaking off. It almost got in my eyes from coming off my forehead. Even though I didn't apply it too close to my nostrils it got near my nose and made me sneeze uncontrollably! Because it can fall off and irritate your eyes and nose, and make you break out, I recommend using this as a spot treatment on acne, scars, and redness instead of putting it all over your face. I found mixing it with honey or a face mask keeps it from flaking off when it dries. Here's my recipe for aspirin mask: - Take a couple uncoated aspirin and gently run water over them for a few seconds. - As soon as you feel the slippery "coating" come off take them out of the water (if you don't it will start disintegrating and wash away!) - Set the aspirin on a hard clean surface like a granite counter top and let them soften up for a few minutes. - Now take the back of a spoon and mash it like you would a pestle and mortar. Slowly add one drop of water at a time as you mash it until you have a thick paste. - If it looks watery and runny take a napkin and gently put it on the top of the mask to absorb the excess water. - Next slowly add either honey or face mask (I love Queen Helene's Mint Julep Mask) and mix it until you have a nice paste. It should still look mostly like aspirin if you use honey. If using face mask it should have a gritty texture and you can still see some aspirin a little. If the mask seems mostly like honey or you can't notice the aspirin in your face mask, you've used too much and should add another aspirin. - After washing your face (especially after a shower when your pores are open!) apply spots of the mask on any acne. If you have scars you can gently rub in circular motions as you apply it. - Let it dry for about 20 minutes or until it starts flaking off. - If you used the mask on a pimple take warm water and splash it on your face to remove the mask. Don't rub! - If you have redness or scars, moisten your face and gently run your hands over the spots with a damp hand as you remove the mask. Make sure to avoid rubbing over any pimple you may have. Immediately after using the mask you face will feel very soft. Your acne or scars won't look any better right away though. The next day you will see any improvement to these blemishes. I find I see the most difference when I use the mask before bed. When I wake up the redness and swelling really seems to go away. I'm not sure why I don't see that as much when I do it during the day. *shrugs*

Loose Powders -Physicians Formula - Organic Wear Translucent Matte Finishing Veil Powder
777designz 6/27/2011 2:44:00 PM
I'm not really sure what to make of this powder. I got it in a kit with the organic loose powder and blush. I figured since it says it's a finishing veil I would use it after I apply my foundation. I tried that and it has a pearly finish to it so it looked kind of odd having it all over my face. Although it wasn't overly sparkly it almost made my face shiny due to it's sort of glowy finish. Maybe it would be nice on the top of your cheekbones as a very subtle highlighter? It has zero coverage and seemed to do nothing to help my face look better. I thought maybe I'm using it wrong; it came with the other powder so maybe it's the finishing step after the loose powder? So I tried setting my foundation with the loose powder and topping that with the finishing veil. I have to admit that made the loose powder look less fake and noticeable (probably because when the 2 blended it made the powder less opaque, matte, and yellow toned). But again it didn't help fine lines, pores etc become less noticeable like they claimed. Wearing this over powder definitely makes the pearly qualities seem unnoticeable. But I'm still left wondering since it doesn't seem to do anything what the real point is? If I'm using this wrong please tell me.

Fragrances -Bath and Body Works - Coconut Pineapple Fragrance Mist

Finally, and Bath & Body Works splash with a strong scent! Too bad it's almost overpowering and sickening! This has a very artificial pineapple smells to it that just kills it for me. I love tropical scents and was looking forward to this one, but it just too strong of a fake scent.

Gels/Soaps -Bath and Body Works - Hawaii Coconut Shower Gel
777designz 6/27/2011 2:12:00 PM
Much like the Bali Mango shower gel in this resort collection, this did not smell like I expected from sniffing the bottle. It also has some unexpected, added perfumy/floral notes to it. But unlike the Bali Mango, where it clashes and takes over the scent, the floral compliments the sweet coconut, making a delightful tropical blend. In the shower it takes on a strong fruity and floraly tropical scent that is hard to define what it smells like. It reminds me of a sweeter, more artificial version of Ile de Tahiti Coconut Vanille. After showering my skin is left with a soft, powdery coconut scent. If you liked the Ile de Tahiti / Passport Tahiti Coconut Vanilla you will enjoy this.
