Misc Beauty Tools -Shiseido - Eyelash Curler
dpkelly 7/25/2003 2:52:00 PM
Lately I've noticed that my lashes only seem half curled and when I try to correct this problem I end up pinching my lid. So I picked up the Shiseido and it is the best!!!!! It fits my eye perfectly, I get ALL my lashes and I don't need to clamp down (like I was doing with my drugstore curler) to get the curl I want. The best thing about it is it gives a natural curl. My crimpy days are gone. And oh how they last and last and last (the whole day). Whoopeeeeee! I'm in love.

Polishes -Rimmel - Lasting Finish Nail Polish in Mirage
dpkelly 7/23/2003 1:02:00 AM
I don't normally use nail polish but on occasion (a weekend getaway with a girlfriend .... no kids, no DH) I get inspired. Especially when I look down at my friend's professionally pedicured twinkle toes. Anyway, Mirage is a very cute champagne beige with lots of sparkle. It's like wearing MAC's Shroom on your nails. It's easy to apply, doesn't streak and isn't thick and goopy. It's a little early to comment about its lasting power but will update in a week. Right now I'm wearing it with Revlon's Always On Topcoat. Update (July 29,03: This started to chip on my right hand on day 5. My left hand remained chip free and fresh looking up until the day I took it off ....day 6)

Mascara -MAC - Mascara X
dpkelly 6/27/2003 2:55:00 PM
I have never been much of a mascara person cuz they either never did anything for my notoriously sparse and short asian lashes or they gave me that heavy "I am wearing mascara look" which I hated. But this stuff is amazing. I can now see my lashes! They're thick, long and have great definition (ie. no clumps!) My eyes have never looked prettier. The packaging is great too... sleek, sexy and understated.

Sunscreen -Neutrogena - Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF45

After reading the review below me, I decided to get clarification from the company itself regarding the exclusion of "Parsol 1789" in the medicinal ingredient list. I was told due to Canadian legislation, up to 4 active ingredients are allowed to appear in this list. The company got around that by listing the fifth one (Parsol 1789) on the front of the product. Hence the difference between the American and Canadian packaging. Now, that's out of the way....this is an excellent product. It goes on sheer without that nasty white residue and leaves a semi matte finish on the face. I've used it for 2 weeks without incident (No breakouts. Yay!) I usually use it on top of my moisturizer and underneath a light dusting of powder. Beautiful and protected.

Eyeliner -Rimmel - Exaggerate Full Colour Eye Definer (all colours)
dpkelly 5/24/2003 4:41:00 PM
OMG! I have found my HG!!! Lately, I've been in the market for an eyeliner that has a powdery finish (in other words the look of lining with an eyeshadow without the fuss). Tried MAC's Powerpoints... didn't like the application. Tried Marcelle's Waterproof eyeliner .... better but had raccoon eyes by the end of the day. RETURN! I've had this one on since 7 am and have gone out through this misty damp weather and shopping through the pouring rain and it is now 4:30 pm and it is still on like I first applied it. Very easy to take off as well. Love, love, love the powdery finish. There is a cute sharpener at the end of the pencil so you can be as precise or as dramatic as you want. Glides on EASILY with NO TUGGING. I have mine in Aubergine which is a pretty purple. When I tried it on my hand, I thought it was a "very out there kind of colour" but on, it's very flattering and makes my eyes pop. I ran back to get Sable (brown). At $5.98 a pop, this is the best. And there you have it. I have my HGs in everything from my brushes, eyeshadows, liquid liner, powder liner, cheek and lip tint, lip gloss, balm and foundation. My last purchase for a long long time. Unless I see something extraordinary :)

Eyeliner -MAC - MAC Powerpoint eyeliner
dpkelly 5/21/2003 11:09:00 PM
I must be the only one that hated these pencils. I picked mine up in Bordeauxline yesterday and promptly returned it today. When I test drove these on my hand I was not impressed with their consistency but decided to give it a chance after seeing all the raves on MUA. As well as being waterproof, it's also touted as being a powderliner pencil (making the smokey eye easy without all the fuss) and I wanted a change from my tried and true Revlon liquid liner that was running out fast. My main problem with this eyeliner was that it wasn't very pigmented. It took me at least 5 or 6 times to get ANY colour down and then once it was on, it was hard to remove and I usually don't have a problem removing makeup with my regular cleanser. This pencil was supposed to save time not ADD to it! I AM done with these eyeliners.

Eye Shadow -Quo - Eye Shadows
dpkelly 5/21/2003 12:30:00 AM
I bought this in Dusk cuz it was touted as a look-a-like to Stila's Grace which everyone seems to be raving about. At first I was disappointed to see that in the pan, it is practically indistinguishable from MAC's Satin Taupe. But on, Dusk is a true shimmery taupe with lavender undertones. Satin Taupe is a frosty brown with plummy undertones. Huge difference even though it's not apparent in the pan. As usual, Quo shadows go on smooth, in general are not as frosty as MAC's (more shimmery than frost) have good staying power and are crease resistant (at least on me). Love this one. Probably my last e/s review for a long while since I have enuf (8 is a huge number for me)to last a long time.

Makeup Brushes -L'Oreal - L'Oreal eye shadow brush
dpkelly 5/21/2003 12:18:00 AM
I agree with Kealoha. This brush DOES rival some of MAC's brushes. Specifically #217. Made of natural hairs this brush is stiff enuf for blending lines and small enuf so that you don't end up blending all the shadows together. Mine doesn't shed and it comes packaged in a durable plastic sleeve. Picked this up for only $7.95 instead of $19 for #217. Great find.

Makeup Brushes -MAC - #213 Fluff Brush
dpkelly 5/21/2003 12:12:00 AM
Cute little brush. Perfect size for applying e/s to the lid and so soft. However, a little too soft to act as a blending brush. For this I use L'Oreal's all over shadow brush.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Eye Shadow
dpkelly 5/15/2003 12:32:00 AM
MAC eye shadows IMO are the best. Not only do they have a vast colour selection but they are a great value for being high end. I tried Stila today (at the counter cuz I couldn't will myself to spend $26 on an eyeshadow that is the size of a blush pan). While not as smooth and blendable as Stila's they come in a close second and IMHO Stila isn't worth the extra $$$! Plus, I find MAC's colour selection unique and a little more interesting. They resist creasing and stay on a decent amount of time. Thank you MAC for bringing quality, price point and trend setting into one jewel of a line.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Satin Taupe
dpkelly 4/30/2003 10:14:00 PM
I agree with the reviewer below me. This is gorgeous!!!! I usually stay clear of browns cuz they either make me look muddy and dirty (like I just put dirt on my eyes) or they just don't show up on my asian MMM skin making me look blah blah blah. This one is different cuz of the plummy undertone making it a cool brown as opposed to the more common warm (coppery, bronzey) browns. As another reviewer noticed it goes on a taupey brown but wears to a plummy brown by the end of the day. This is great on days when I feel like the brown doe eyed look. It's very natural and beautiful. I highly recommend this one.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Blackberry Eyeshadow
dpkelly 4/30/2003 9:46:00 PM
This was my very first MAC shade when my makeup artist used it on my wedding day. I still love it cuz it makes my brown eyes pop in a subtle way. It's a plummy brown shade with berry undertones that is so versatile. I use it wet as an eyeliner which brings out the berry tones. Yet it's not too dark to use on the lid or crease. I recently got to the bottom of the pan and repurchased.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Early Morning Satin Eyeshadow
dpkelly 4/24/2003 3:27:00 PM
I have to say that I wasn't quite sure about this shadow when I saw it. Greys usually look blah on my MMM skin but when used in the crease, Sleepy as a base, and any dark brown shadow in the outer corners,it looks stunning. I also like to use it with Shroom as a base when I want a more neutral look.

Eye Shadow -MAC - sleepy shadow
dpkelly 4/24/2003 3:22:00 PM
I finally went to check out this shade before it's gone forever and I love it. In the pot, it's an off white colour with slight pink undertones (enough so that when it goes on it doesn't look chalky). I'm an MMM and when I use it as a base, it brightens my eyes and brings out the hint of blue of Early Morning in the crease. Love this colour.

Lip Treatments -Neutrogena - Lip Moisturizer
dpkelly 4/16/2003 10:50:00 PM
I looooooove this stuff. It applies smooth, is not waxy and REALLY moisturizes your lips. It also has great lasting power. The best ever lip balm....my holy grail. I like it much better than my Burt's Bees beeswax lip balm which feels good while it's on but makes my lips feel even drier than when I started.
