Fragrances -Lolita Lempicka - L de Lolita Lempicka

During the dry down, the harsh spicy note goes away, and what's left smells very much like Pink Sugar on me. It's ok but I tend to prefer lighter scents.

I took a long time making my mind up about this perfume. I rec'd it in a package sent by a dear MUA-er who sends me items she can't use any more...I thought the packaging, especially the gorgeous heft of the glass bottle, to be spectacular. I wanted so much to like this perfume. However, I sprayed it into the air and almost gagged. There's some strong top note I cannot place my finger on but it's completely overpowering and grandmotherly. It also gave me an awful headache! I kept reading reviews that cited the vanilla and musk notes (I love sophisticated vanilla and musk notes) in this fragrance, so just today I tried it again--on my knee :-))) so that it wasn't too close to my nose. (I didn't want to get another headache.) Lo and behold, the fragrance warmed up on my skin and turned into something elegant, soothing, even welcoming. No headaches, either. I still can't place the notes in this fragrance, but I am happy to say that I really do like this one, finally!

Polishes -OPI - Pistol Packin Pink
rated 4 of 5
Sammy311 9/1/2007 9:45:00 PM

I've been wearing this shade off and on for several years. It's a muted milky pinky-beige, not terribly pink at all. Some other reviewers seemed to see rather wild colors in the bottle--mauve?! lavender?! I have to wonder if they are looking at the right color name here (or possibly have been sniffing the polish fumes?). At any rate, this is a good "office" color for pale skinned women. I teach at a university and wear it on my short nails so that I don't look like a dragon lady.

Hair Color -Clairol - Nice 'n Easy - Root Touch Up
rated 4 of 5
Sammy311 7/23/2007 2:16:00 PM

First of all, I am so glad I found this product. Yes, it's expensive, and yes, you have to leave it on longer than the package states if you have the godawful kind of gray roots that I have, but this is saving my life in so many other ways. Used to be, I'd pay $130--150 for highlights for an Aveda stylist every 8 weeks...then it was every 6 weeks...and now I need touch ups every three weeks...but with this product (in straight up medium brown, no frills), I can touch up my roots myself every TWO WEEKS (yippee!) and I don't feel so self conscious about those damned gray roots peeking through. Also, it's less costly if you use half of it at a time...so glad I dared to use this product, because now I don't know how I ever lived without it. :-)))

Treatments -Avon - ANEW RETROACTIVE Skin Optimizer [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5
Sammy311 5/7/2007 1:01:00 AM

My boyfriend told me I had great skin the other day, and it might be due to this product. I bought a spate of Avon products off ebay the other day, and this one seems to be the most effective at making my skin look luminous. At least I *think* this is the product that is making my skin look good! Gawd, it is hard to tell sometimes, isn't it? I think most of the stuff we put on our face is hogwash but we keep hoping...:-)

Treatments -Avon - ANEW CLINICAL Deep Crease Concentrate
rated 4 of 5
Sammy311 5/7/2007 12:56:00 AM

I bought this off ebay after reading the reviews here, and it *seems* to be working--a little. It's hard to tell, of course. The lines on my forehead and between my eyes were never that bad to begin with but do seem to have lessened slightly. Nothing dramatic, though. I'll use up the bottle, although it will take forever since I only use a tiny bit at a time, and then see if I want to buy more.

Styling Products -Aveda - Pure Abundance Hair Potion
rated 5 of 5
Sammy311 4/28/2007 10:59:00 PM

I had my hair colored today at an Aveda salon, and my stylist used this product on my long, fine-but-very-thick hair, and I must say that it's brilliant stuff. Stylists can never get as much oomph in my hair as I need, but this actually did the trick--I had Hollywood hair all day, and it still looks damn good. Of course, this stuff is horrendously overpriced, as you only get a tiny bottle for $20+, but they told me at the salon that I could get 60 or so uses out of this, so maybe it will be worth it after all. I never rate hair products but had to write a glowing report on this one.

Blush -New York Color - Color Wheel Mosaic Powder Pink Cheek Glow
rated 5 of 5
Sammy311 3/6/2007 7:42:00 PM

Bought it for $2 at Big Lots, and it's better than I thought it would be. Gives the sweetest flush and looks very natural, with no trace of chalkiness. Seems that it would work better on pale skin, though (which is what I have). I really am surprised by this product.

Eh. Yet another example of a sucky Revlon product.

Liquid -Revlon - ColorStay Makeup
rated 5 of 5
Sammy311 3/3/2007 1:05:00 AM

I scored 3 ($4 each) of these tonight at Big Lots and was very happy about it. I like this version better than the Softflex version, for sure, which is a bit more watery and which also annoys me with that silly reference to something called "comfort technology." (Revlon must think women are totally brainless to buy all that.) So, now I am drowning in Revlon Colorstay foundation and couldn't be happier. I have tried all sorts of top brands and this is the one I like best...go figure. :-)

Lip Gloss -Baby Pink - Lipgloss in Peach
rated 4 of 5
Sammy311 2/19/2007 4:03:00 PM

I seem to have this in Peach, but the tube is not marked with a color name. However, my gloss is a peachy pink, more peachy than anything, with little sparkles that look silver in some lights, gold in others. When I tried it on I was surprised at how much pigment it had...it is really cute! Cap leaks, though, which is sucky.

Lip Gloss -Sally Girl - Sally Girl lipglosses
rated 4 of 5
Sammy311 1/22/2007 4:07:00 PM

I use So Disco to top off my Sally Girl mini lipstick in Unity. Very pretty and feminine! So Disco is a light sheer peach with a hint of pink. These don't have a lot of pigment but So Disco does make my lips look full and juicy. :-)

Lipstick -Sally Girl - Sally Girl lipstick in Unity
rated 4 of 5
Sammy311 1/21/2007 3:45:00 PM

Beautiful! This lipstick is a light peachy pink. It goes on slightly dry but the color is so pretty, so feminine, that I just top it off with some gloss and I'm good to go. And these are dinky little things, just .99 each. The packaging is made of that cheap brittle plastic, kind of like Wet and Wild's godawful packaging, but still and all, this is a wonderful color.

Polishes -Sally Girl - Sally Girl - Nail Color - general
rated 5 of 5

I have this in "Shy," which is the most heavenly pinky beige color. I have bought at least 10 of these and will have to take Xanax if they ever discontinue it!
