Shampoo -Matrix - Shade Memory-Vivid Reds
Lynsi01 11/25/2007 5:26:00 PM
I've been using this system as a whole for about a week. I have a terrible time keeping red in my hair. My neighbor is licensed and did a lovely strawberry color with blonde highlights for me about a week ago, and suggested I try this line. I've been very pleased with the line in its entirety. Here is what I have to say about the shampoo: First of all, the scent is rather intoxicating. If you're sensitive to fragrance, be sure to sniff test this before you try it. I was hesitant when I went to try the shampoo because it's one of those pearlescent formulas. Usually that's a (pardon the pun) RED flag for me since I have fine hair that tends to get greasy by the end of the day. I often compromise moisture in order to prevent that from happening. This is a relatively low-lather shampoo, but surprisingly enough, my hair feels pretty darn clean afterwards. Moisturized, but not heavy at all. If anything it actually feels lighter. I tend to use a lot of styling aids recently (I discovered hot rollers and hairspray) and this shampoo does a great job of getting my hair clean without stripping. And I believe it's done a terrific job at preventing color fading. Not sure if it's credit to the shampoo or the conditioner, or both, but my hair is also MAJORLY shiny now. I've been blessed with healthy hair that withstands a lot without losing natural shine, but I'm talking REALLY shiny! I have a feeling this will remain in my shower for a long time. Edit: red still faded like mad after a while anyway. Won't repurchase.

Treatments -Sally Hansen - Maximum Growth Cuticle & Nail Moisture Treatment Pen
Lynsi01 11/12/2007 7:55:00 PM
***HOLY GRAIL ALERT*** I picked this up because I'm a chronic nail and cuticle biter and my nails always are dry and look like crap. I figure, ok, pen version would be easier to use while at work, AND it's hard for me to find an oil that doesn't have any nut oils in it. TA DA!!! This stuff is amazing. It smells amazing, absorbs amazingly fast, makes my nails look like I spent oodles of money on a manicure, and it's a fix for when I would usually bite. I've gotten all my coworkers hooked on it. LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PRODUCT!!!

Powder -L'Oreal - Bare Naturale Powdered Mineral Foundation
Lynsi01 10/13/2007 11:29:00 AM
just picked this up from walgreens along with the concealer. it seems the more DS brands put out mineral makeup, the better quality it gets. I find that this mineral is similar to Laura Mercier's. Doesn't really give you the soft glow that hers does, but the coverage is similar. I haven't had any problems with caking. And at first, the coverage is very matte, but it seems as the day progresses and my skin pumps out oil that it becomes a nice satin finish. I didn't have problems with the brush at all, but it's be nice if there was some smaller packaging that was mu bag friendly. Edit: still a decent d/s mineral, but I've fallen in love with BE. It has much better coverage than this stuff.

Scrubs -Soap and Glory - The Scrub of Your Life
Lynsi01 9/29/2007 9:14:00 PM
FINALLY!! A BODY SCRUB THAT DOES NOT CONTAIN NUT OILS!!! I'm allergic to nuts and can never find a nice scrub that's safe for me. This scrub is terrific, it foams up while you use it but the little scrubbies in it don't go away or break down. I use it before I shave and it's terrific. I love the smell, and so far I love this entire line!!!

Skincare - Body -Soap and Glory - Creamy Clarifying Shower Gel
Lynsi01 9/29/2007 9:09:00 PM
this is my new HG bodywash. it smells divine, easy to dispense in the shower thanks to the pump container, and best of all it leaves my skin very soft AND free of breakouts! i was using neutrogena clear skin body wash, which didn't do an amazing job of clearing my shoulders and back up and left my skin parched. this bodywash does it all, it's truly clarifying and softening. i've gotten hooked on the entire line!!!

Hair Styling Tools -Conair - Infiniti Tourmaline Hair Designer
Lynsi01 9/23/2007 4:56:00 PM
this is for the hot air brush style of infiniti hair designer. i picked this up at target for about $40.00. My hair is shoulder length, way, fine but dense, and color treated. it's usually flat as a pancake and gets oily from my forehead throughout the day. I'm hesitant to try these brush type stylers because my hair tangles horribly and then breaks, etc. Well, this is totally different. It took some practice, but by the third time I used this I was a whiz at it. I use it on my towel dried hair and I go up underneath my hair to create volume. My hair usually is fairly straight after a blowdry but it's not very smooth and there's that bit of a wave in it that just won't go away. After using this though, I can't see a way to live without it. It gives me THE MOST AMAZING VOLUME EVER and it keeps it in ALL DAY. it leaves my hair super smooth and shiny, never static-y. I love this thing. I don't see how well it would work for thicker hair though. And the one thing that could be done to improve it is to create some sort of lift off thing from the brush to clean it off of the loose hairs that get in there. it doesn't take me any longer to dry my hair with this, in fact, I think it's sped up my morning routine. i love it and think it's worth a shot if you have my hair type!! Update: I've had to buy 2 more of these because they keep breaking! I quit!

Liquid -Christian Dior - DiorSkin Forever Extreme Wear Flawless Makeup SPF
Lynsi01 9/8/2007 8:49:00 PM
bought this last night after a 'special event' makeover. It makes my skin look absolutely flawless. I had been using LM mineral powder, and found I wanted a bit more...something...it seemed the minerals just disappeared over the course of the day. this stuff sticks, even in STL humidity! and it stays fresh and semi matte the entire day! it's fabulous, and a little bit goes a loooooong way. **update 12/16/07. So, apparently this DOES tend to migrate on me throughout the day, especially around my glasses and mouth. I think I'll stick to minerals because they're easy to reapply throughout the day and don't look obvious. Also, it seems like I break out a little more with this and it seems to get heavy feeling throughout the day.

Powder -Laura Mercier - Mineral Powder SPF 15
Lynsi01 4/7/2007 11:16:00 PM
ok I got this yesterday so I used it the first time today. WHERE HAS THIS BEEN MY WHOLE LIFE?!?!?! I don't know if I've ever been wowed by a product like this before. I bought it in Real Sand and it's the perfect color (not bad for ordering online! Sephora does a great job at describing the color). I've used just about all the MMU, from BE, Cory, Neutrogena, Philosophy, UD, AR, etc. More recently I've been using AR because it was clearanced out on sephora.com and I've been having good skin days. AR is somewhat sheer but buildable. I've been wanting just a touch more coverage and shine control. LM totally delivers. Rather than shiny mica for that 'hey I'm trying to look glowy' shine, LM uses pearl powder. Totally different. I have a glow and not a shine. I applied it with a kabuki brush and a retractable brush so I could narrow down on a zit that cropped up overnight. This stuff is so unbelievably natural looking! It covers what I want covered without any cakiness or dryness. And it's sort of a semi matte finish, but not dry. It kept my skin soft all day and it wasn't nearly as shiny as it usually gets. I even took a nap with it on and when I woke up it was still perfect! I love how someone finally came up with the idea to add that twist top so that you can seal off the shaker holes and make it more portable. I touched up just a little before we went out for dinner, and it layers impeccably. YOU NEED TO HAVE THIS IN YOUR MAKEUP BAG!!! worth every penny, I would pay triple digits to have this stuff but I'll settle at $35 :) This really deserves like 10 lippies!

Primer/ Corrector -Clarins - Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch

this stuff is really nice, I have to say. It very much hydrates my skin and smoothes everything out without feeling heavy or oily. However, be sure to test it with your foundation. It works great with minerals, but my Dior AirFlash doesn't work well with it. I feel I use half the jar for one application though. I wound up going thru this in like a month and a half!

Cleansers -Garnier - Nutritioniste Nutri-Pure Detoxifying Cream Cleanser Oil Free
Lynsi01 2/16/2007 9:32:00 PM
ok, this very well may be my holy grail. This is a very soothing cleanser, non foaming, that does a great job of removing all my makeup but not leaving my skin feeling like it's going to crack. the second ingredient is glycerin, which could be why. it's very refreshing, with grape, peppermint leaf, vitamin E and B5. granted I wind up rinsing all those ingredients away, but my skin is very calm since I've been using this. I usually use it with my Clarisonic, and it works much better than the clarisonic cleanser. If you do have the clarisonic definintely give this a try. I really hope garnier doesn't discontinue any of this line. It's very impressive.

Powder -Jane - Be Pure Mineral Makeup
Lynsi01 2/16/2007 9:25:00 PM
got this in the brush packaging. The makeup itself isn't bad, not a ton of coverage, but just enough. I do like that the brush is retractable, because I can retract it and condense the bristles for more spot coverage for under my eyes. However, the quality of the brush is crap. it's those plastic-y feeling bristles that shed really badly, and they don't disperse the powder well. if they upped the price by like a dollar they could've probably used a sable brush or something. Unfortunately I can't quite figure out how to pry into the brush to get to the powder and use a different brush, but it still works well enough for touchups and good skin days :)

Misc Beauty Tools -Clarisonic - Pro Skincare Brush
Lynsi01 2/10/2007 11:50:00 AM
preliminary review: I've been using this for 2 days, morning and night. I chose to purchase it because after trying several masks, cleansers, and treatments my skin always looked congested. Cons: The series of beeps and whistles sure is difficult to decipher! I've had to read the booklet like 20 times now! They definitely need to work on making that easier. Also, with taking it into the shower it's sort of impractical to not have the charging base in the bathroom. But I don't have that much space on my countertop for it, and it's a bit of an eyesore. Plus I'm afraid my husband will knock it over someday. I wish it could be used to take of eye makeup so I did't have to bother with another product. My old cleanser just pretty much did everything. I wish they had some sort of waterproof caddy thing to temporarily store it while you're in the shower. I'm afraid it'll slip off the edge of my tub and break on the floor. Pros: I do enjoy using it in the shower. It definitely does what it claims as far as cleansing goes! After two uses my pores looked dramatically smaller, which no other product, even microdermabrasion, has ever done for me. Even on my nose, which is a constant source of clogged pores, was seriously clear. It removes my face makeup completely. When I use a toner afterwards there isn't a drop of dirt/oil/skin cells on the cotton pad. I have experienced just a few small breakouts since I started, but that could definintely be a combination of things. My skin doesn't like Vit. C, and it's an ingredient in both the cleanser and serum that came with it. I don't believe it's from the deep cleansing action of the brush. I'll probably use the cleanser and serum for another week to see if it continues. The serum, by the way, feels delightful. I haven't seen much difference in my skin because of it but it does make it feel silky. So far so good. I don't want to get my hopes up because I did shell out money for the Zeno and returned it after a week because it did nothing for me. I'll keep my fingers crossed! ****update 5/23/07**** I've been using this for a few months now, and the difference in my skin is unbelievable. I don't think I've had a cystic pimple since I started. I don't use the cleanser or serum anymore as I seemed to have more tiny milia like zits from them. I switch back and forth between the brush heads, but find my skin likes the delicate head the best. seriously, I don't even have to use my benzaclin anymore!! that saves me $25 a month!!!! every woman with skin issues needs this!

Foundations -Urban Decay - Surreal Skin Mineral Makeup
Lynsi01 4/17/2006 4:30:00 PM
i've tried BE, Cory, Neutrogena, Philosophy, a lot of mineral makeup. The shade was never right, and it left me shiny and clotty. This stuff, however, is a totally different story. I didn't have problems getting it to come thru the puff like others did. I just don't like the fact that I have to smack myself in the face with the puff to apply it. But, once I do get it on, it has awesome coverage that looks completely natural. Not shiny or dry at all, and it actually covers my blemishes like mineral makeup is supposed to. I got the shade illusion, which is the lightest. Lately I've been afraid of using the lightest shade for fear of looking too pale, but this shade is an exact match for me. I really enjoy this product. However, I keep looking at the cap for a mirror like philosophy had. That would help a little. UPDATE: skin is in a dry spell, and this seemed to emphasize it. And I wasn't getting the coverage that I need anymore. So it's up for swap!

Cleansers -Basis - Basis Cleaner Clean Face Wash
Lynsi01 12/7/2005 11:38:00 PM
I've been searching for a new cleanser for a while. I have combo skin with a lot of surface dryness due to BenzaClin(I-Skin takes care of it along with Lancome Impactive Moisturizer). I wanted a cleanser that was inexpensive, gentle, and got rid of greasies without making my face feel like it would crack. And of course, no breakouts. This cleanser is it! It has a lot of botanicals I look for in a cleanser--aloe, chamomile, lavender, with a spring of lemongrass to remove oil. It gets ALL my makeup, even mascara and she-laqued e/s off and my skin doesn't feel stripped afterwards, just soft and refreshingly clean. I can't rave enough!
