Mascara -Cover Girl - Lash Blast 24 HR Mascara
rated 5 of 5
Lexx13 12/28/2011 6:27:00 AM

I think this is one of the best mascaras out there. I have tried everything (practically) from diorshow to maybelline great lash. This mascara performs really really well. It holds curl like nothing I've ever used before. It makes my lashes look defined, really long and just beautiful. No clumping :) It does not budge for 24hr. It has lasted me through naps, a little crying and even rain and snow, without any smearing or flaking. The only bad thing is that it is almost impossible to remove completely. It pretty much stays on your lashes for 24 hr, even after using baby oil. I usually just remove it as best I can before bed, and then again when I get up. I am not a fan of any lash blast mascaras except this one, ( I have tried original lash blast, LB luxe, LB length and LB fusion.) it really impressed me and I highly recommend it.

Eye Shadow -Maybelline - Color Tattoo 24hr Cream Gel Shadow
rated 5 of 5

Wow - you need to try these! If you like MAC paint pots - these are just as good for less than half the price. They are creamy, and dry to a really nice satin finish. I mean aside from the packaging - I swear it's the same formula as MAC paint pots. I've been wearing mine for 10+ hours without a crease in sight! The color selection is good, I only wish there was a nude to use as a base. I got 'tough as taupe', it's so pretty! It has a cool tone and I used it all over the lid, with a purple shadow in the crease and it looks so awesome. I will be picking up more of these, I got mine for 8.99 at pharma plus but I just saw them at wal mart for 6.98 CAD! So cheap for such an awesome product - highly recommend! update: picked up another one yesterday in 'bold gold' and it's super shimmery gorgeousness! Perfect for the holidays. I'm totally hooked on these :) Also just added photos and swatches of both colors here: http://makeupormorte.blogspot.com/2011/12/maybelline-color-tattoo-24hr-cream-gel.html

Lip Treatments -eos - Smooth Sphere Organic Lip Balm in Honeysuckle Honeydew
rated 3 of 5
Lexx13 11/25/2011 5:55:00 PM

When I finally found this here in Canada I was stoked to try it out. I got it for around $5 at SDM. The packaging is unique, easy to find but not small enough to put in your pocket. The flavor/scent is really nice, I love honeydew anything and it smells real, not artificial or gross like some balms. I was really disappointed with the formula. It feels quite thick and waxy on my lips, and just sort of sits on the top layer. It doesn't penetrate so it really doesn't help with my dry cracking lips :( I had high hopes but it just doesn't moisturize well. It also wears off quickly. I will still use once and a while just because it smells good. If dry lips aren't an issue and you want something cute then get it but otherwise, I wouldn't recommend.

Mascara -Rimmel - Extra Wow Lash
rated 4 of 5
Lexx13 11/14/2011 2:30:00 AM

I bought this because it was $3.99 and I enjoy trying every new mascara I can get my hands on lol. For the price, this is really decent! I love the fact that you can layer it as much as you want and it doesn't clump up. It's quite wet and I find it works best after a week or two when it 'thickens' up. I get really great length and pretty decent volume using 2 coats. It doesn't weigh down my lashes much either which is a huge plus. The major downer is that it flakes a bit after a few hours of wear. Otherwise I'd give this a 5. I actually use lash accelerator over this now to keep it from flaking (that one doesn't flake on me) and I get really long thick lashes with this combo! not bad.

Fragrances -Lancome - Tresor midnight rose
rated 3 of 5
Lexx13 10/12/2011 5:13:00 PM

At first spritz I get the yummy black currant and vanilla notes... then a little rose. Then the rose just completely disappears and this ends up smelling just like a sweeter tresor. Extremely similar to the original, which I don't mind but I was expecting more rose in this :( Midnight rose is just not very modern or original. And yes, it really does resemble haute couture as well! (that I wore 12 years ago!) I am disappointed.

Liquid -Maybelline - Fit Me Foundation
rated 1 of 5
Lexx13 9/9/2011 12:10:00 AM

Only grabbed this since it was on sale for 6.99 which is so cheap for a foundation these days. I figured I'd try the lightest color and it matched alright, but not perfectly. Coverage was light, even after layering it did not cover blemishes or scars. The finish was nice and natural looking, but at the end of the day I looked so greasy it was disgusting. I set it with powder and it still did this, I don't even have oily skin! It just turns my face into a grease monster. It also clogged my pores after using for 2 days. Took it back. Maybelline foundations never work for me, and this will be the last time I ever try one from them. Sticking to Revlon colorstay!

Primer/ Corrector -MAC - Prep + Prime Line Filler
rated 2 of 5
Lexx13 8/20/2011 2:07:00 AM

I'm sorry but this is such a gimmicky product. It doesn't fill lines. It might slightly blur fine lines, but as for the hereditary deep grooves in my forehead-- this did nothing at all. I actually used this as a full face primer for a while because it has excellent antioxidants that are good for your skin. Funny I found that my skin looked a lot healthier and clearer after using it. It was hard to spread, and when I tried to 'fill in' any lines (after foundation) it would cake up and look flaky. Even though it isn't a horrible product, it just doesn't do what it's supposed to do. I wouldn't recommended it.

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Betsey Johnson
rated 4 of 5
Lexx13 7/8/2011 3:41:00 PM

First off, love love the packaging! Now I was about to purchase this because I had tested it before and I liked it. But I thought I'd try it again first. So I spritzed on some and let it settle in for a while. It's quite strong. I kept sniffing it and thinking I've smelled this recently..something similar. I left the store and thought about it all night. Then it dawned on me - this smells just like Halle by Halle berry! Very very similar. Betsey is just a couple notes off but they both have that warm musky amber and vanilla goodness. I already own Halle and I find it a bit heavy, so I didn't end up purchasing Bestsey. If you like Betsey I guarantee you will like Halle.

Treatments (Eye) -Promaxyl - Eyelash Renewal serum Rapidlash
rated 1 of 5
Lexx13 6/18/2011 3:57:00 AM

Update - one year after using rapidlash: I have been diagnosed with chronic dry eye and I will need to put in special eye drops for the rest of my life. It started as soon as I used rapidlash and never went away - even though I only used it for 2 weeks. I have had multiple people come forward and tell me they have the exact same problem after using this. I feel lucky I don't have any worse side effects from this. Please - STAY AWAY! original review (for the original rapidlash. It's since been reformulated) : I bought this because I had an accident with a fake shu curler that cut off some of my lashes. I only used rapidlash for 15 days and I saw results. My lashes were longer and a bit thicker, and the ones that were cut from the accident grew back in. From day one I suffered blood shot eyes, and they progressively got worse. After one week I developed red veins and bumps along my lash line. My eyes became swollen and painful. By day 15 my eyes hurt like hell, and I started to have stabbing pains on and off. I immediately stopped using it. I've since found out that this is NOT a safe product! You can read more info on my blog about it including all risk and possible side effects here (only if you are so inclined): http://makeupormorte.blogspot.com/2011/06/rapidlash-review-my-experience.html As a friend to my fellow MUAer's please use rapidlash with caution.

Liquid -L'Oreal - infallible never fail makeup
rated 3 of 5
Lexx13 6/10/2011 4:55:00 AM

I wanted to love this foundation. The best thing is the coverage, it's really good, just as good as MAC studio fix fluid. It goes on thin, it's quite liquidy- but you can layer it so it gives you that really flawless doll like look. I had a Clinique SA say my skin looks 'perfect' while I had this on, she was flabbergasted I was looking at acne products. Right now I am suffering a few breakouts and the last thing I would consider my skin being is anywhere near nice - let alone perfect! This also lasts pretty well in humidity and through hard work outs. I have a very physically demanding job and this stays put through my shift! Here is the bad.. I use the palest color (classic ivory) and it matches my skin very well until about an hour or so after I apply I've noticed my skin takes on an orange cast. This totally oxidizes on me :( I don't know if other shades would do this but it looks very obvious since I'm very pale. Now after using it for about a week my pores are getting a bit clogged, they are larger and I have a few new little bumps..dam I wish this was oil free! I really liked this but I'm going back to colorstay which doesn't clog my pores and also stays on all day.

Hair Color -L'Oreal - Sublime Mousse
rated 2 of 5
Lexx13 5/29/2011 3:25:00 AM

I am writing a review for the lightest shade, 90 pure light blonde. Before I colored it with sublime mousse my hair was bleached out with slightly visible brown roots, also the blonde was somewhat yellow because my toner washed out. I was pleasantly surprised the application went smoothly, I applied all over my roots first and then through the rest of my hair. I realized after the process that this mousse is capable of depositing color, and lifting maybe 1/2 a shade or so. It will not cover grey or dark roots. It will help blend it out but the deposited tone will wash out rather quickly. I would consider this demi-permanent. The end result was slightly lifted root color, and deeper neutral blonde on my already bleached length. It turned out nice! I loved it ... but sadly, it faded back to the color it was before within two weeks :( here is a photo of my end result: http://img.makeupalley.com/5/3/0/8/1980599.JPG I would not buy this product again, or recommend it to anyone.

Powder -New York Color - Smooth Skin Pressed Powder
rated 5 of 5
Lexx13 5/2/2011 3:19:00 AM

This review is long but I need to explain. I've wasted so much money on powders in the last year. Way too much! My favorite powder was clinique almost powder, because it concealed my pores and gave me a perfect matte finish over my foundation. Well it was getting too expensive to repurchase every few months ($30 CAD) so I started trying cheaper powders. I tried L'oreal true match powder (oxidized insanely!), Maybelline dream matte powder (ok but not great for dry skin), tons of different mineral powders (bare minerals, everyday minerals, MAC skinfinish etc.) which all broke me out. A few days ago I was going to grab MAC careblend pressed powder because I read good reviews. I went to MAC and saw it's $27.50 CAD and I just cringed. I don't want to spend so much money on a powder! Later that day I was walking through the makeup isle in W-mart when I came across the NYC powder. For $3 I thought I may as well just try it. Well holy **** this powder is better than anything I've used in the past year. Maybe ever. I have super dry skin and it works so well to set my foundation without making my skin look all dried up. It looks matte and fresh and hides my pores perfectly. My foundation stays on twice as long with this on. I am literally in shock that such a cheap product can be so great, but it's true. I am also extremely pale and the translucent shade is perfect because it doesn't add any funny orange or yellow tones to my face. It's perfect. The packaging slightly sucks but really for $3 you can't complain. This powder is awesome and I highly recommend trying it if you are looking for something to set your foundation with. I will never try another stupid expensive powder again.

Palettes -Kat Von D - Tattoo Chronicles Palette - Volume 1
rated 5 of 5
Lexx13 2/19/2011 12:21:00 AM

My oh my this palette is absolutely amazing! It is very uniquely designed and artistically aesthetic. It looks like a book and has a few pages of art and writing from Kat Von D herself. There are 3 sets of eyeshadows (12 in total) that can all be used for a very diverse range of looks, from neutral to super smokey. The quality is superb, all shadows are extremely pigmented and blend wonderfully. There are 3 mini primers in a nice variety of colors included, and they work very well. No creasing or fading when I use them. There is also a set of dramatic-looking false eyelashes but I haven't tried them yet so I can't really comment on them. Last but not least the eyeshadow insert pulls out to reveal a hidden part of the palette where the double ended perfume (saint and sinner) is housed. How creative! Both scents are nice depending on what mood you're in. Overall this palette is great to have for a range of looks and it's a nice way to try out Kat Von D makeup. I highly recommend it, it's a real steal for what you get. I can't wait to see what Volume 2 will be like! Update - I've done photos swatches and EOTD's with this palette, you can see it here: http://makeupormorte.blogspot.com/2011/02/kat-von-d-tattoo-chronicles-volume-1.html

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Claire's- Angel Rocker Perfume
rated 4 of 5
Lexx13 1/13/2011 2:47:00 PM

Hmmm this smells familiar. Like pink sugar, without that burnt toffee note. And a hint of something a bit sweeter, if that's even possible. It smells very juicy and syrupy. I smell cotton candy, vanilla, cream, tonka beans, caramel...and raspberry. Lasting power is surprisingly good, about 8-10 hours! The packaging is cute. I think the rollerball is stronger than the spray? I bought the rollerball and it smells a lot stronger than the spritz I tested from the bottle. Thinking maybe I'll pick up the bottle, but I'll probably get sick of the smell before I get the chance -just like I got sick of pink sugar.

Blush -Estee Lauder - Tender Blush - Peach Nuance
rated 5 of 5
Lexx13 1/13/2011 12:36:00 AM

I have to say just how amazing this blush is. I was skeptical to spend $27 CAD on a blush, but it is totally worth it. Peach nuance is incredibly natural looking on my ghostly pale (neutral) skin. It adds a flush of color that looks so pretty, very soft and brightens my whole face. It gives that 'lit from within' look, I swear I feel 5 years younger when I put this on. I actually use the little brush it comes with to apply, I find it grabs the perfect amount of color. The blush blends so beautifully and easily it's hard to mess up. I would describe the finish as exactly the same as MAC's beauty powders from venomous villains collection. They have very soft light reflecting pigments that create a natural looking glowy finish. I don't even care about finding ripe peach now, I'm very happy with peach nuance :) Just added: my FOTD wearing peach nuance http://img.makeupalley.com/5/3/0/8/1853902.JPG
