Polishes -L.A. Colors - Color Craze - Mega Watt NP403

I love this bargain polish shade so much I went and got a backup the next day! NC25 here and this is the perfect nude/sheer color I have been searching for. Right now I am wearing in a french style and it is absolutely gorgeous! (pic in my gallery) It is a warm nude with a hint of shimmer. For $1 and its outstanding quality, it is such a steal!
I'm NC25 for reference. This duo is a vivid true gold & matte dark purple. I would buy this again for the gold color alone. If you want your eyes to look like mayan gold treasure then this baby is for you. IT IS STUNNING!! Ive used it with eye primers and cream shadows as bases and each time the color just turns into this blazing non stop gold. Shimmery, metallic gorgeousness. As for the purple it is pretty boring standard matte shade I have several dupes of. But the gold...just WOW! ----Edit on the purple: Upon closer inspection, the dark purple has an ever so slight hint of shimmer.
I had used this stuff on my acrylic nails when I use to wear that junk in my 20s and then pretty much ditched using it since 2008. FF to now that I am a total polish junkie because of SV top coat. I have two toddlers. A 1 & 2 year old so I thought I had to give up my love for pretty nails because there was just no way my polish would dry in time before someone needed a diaper change or something. With SV I am able to have a decent manicure and look like I give a d*mn. I basically cannot wear any polish at all unless I use SV topcoat. The big thing I hate about it is that halfway thru the bottle is gets really thick and leaves big bubbles when applying. The bottle is a normal size .5 fl oz bottle but in reality you are really paying $10 for .25 oz. The amount that is actually useable before the formula turns to utter crap. I have to tip the bottle and glob it all over the brush to try to get to the other half. A total PITA. BUT because its lets me have pretty manis and pedis I will certainly buy this over and over again. My 2nd go - to top coat is from Sallys called RUSH 60 second tc which performs similar to SV but yet is somehow different. And its a massive 1 oz bottle for $7. SV and Rush are the bees knees. I cant live without them!
Eyeliner -Rimmel - Special Eyes Eyeliner pencil in "Black Magic"
IslandGirlSPN 6/21/2012 11:25:00 PM
I grabbed up two of these because they were a. cheap (like $2+ something) & b. i liked the name a lot! Well I should have chosen the regular black eyeliner. I realize now these are not a "kohl" that is smudgeable (and it doesnt say its a kohl....my mistake). Its a harder, stiffer formula that reminds me of how WnW liners use to be but they were .99 ea. Now WnW liners are better than these believe it or not! Disappointing. Ill keep them around for Halloween makeup pencils to draw cat whiskers with I guess. :-/ BTW - I did use it as a base to hold on a brown eyeshadow as a liner. It was nice to use for that but the formula is just too stiff & my skin is 34 years old so I dont feel good tugging on my eye skin to use this. Again...halloween makeup bin it goes!
Given as a gift to me from my hubby I would not have purchased this on my own (it looks boring in the bottle) but after wearing it finally I am in love with this color! NC25 here. I usually go for cream finish polished and this is some sort of glitter frost combo but without being chunky. It applies to the bottle in just two. I would have to describe this color as a glimmery golden pink. Its so flattering! I love loud colors on my toes so this is suitable just for my fingers imo. This is my first try at ChG polishes and I want more!
Eye Shadow -Maybelline - Expert Eyes Duo - Lasting Lilac
IslandGirlSPN 6/19/2012 2:19:00 PM
This purple duo is not very pigmented but that is just fine with me because it gives a fun pop of color to a day time look without being an in your face purple eye look. Ive used it with UDPP and also with MK eye primer so I do not know how it wears without a primer. I used the light purple all over my lid with a vanilla color as a highlight and the darker purple all over my lid with other highlight shades. Between the two I like the darker purple much better and wish that side of the duo was bigger. The light purple is 2/3 of the duo..(ill post my pic) :-/ These duo shadows are just ok...if I can get them for dirt cheap then sure Ill buy them again but I much prefer their color tattoos over these any day. NC25
I didnt give in to the hype of this mascara for the longest time then one day I had to trade in a bad eye liner for another product. I chose this but in waterproof version. I am so glad I did because it has become one of my two HG mascaras. It is perfection for my sparse stick straight lashes. I curl my lashes first then apply two coats. It separates, lengthens, thickens and volumizes for a classic look daytime look. (And because it applies so neatly I dont need to use my SK lash comb ever! Wow!) By the way I use The Falsies wp (my other hg) for a vampy look. This is perfection in a tube. I see that it has been around for a long time so now that I discovered it for myself I truly hope it stays around because I would just cry without it!
Polishes -Wet 'n' Wild - Wild Shine - Caribbean Frost 446B
IslandGirlSPN 6/18/2012 8:43:00 PM
NC25 here but this polish is so gorgeous that I am almost positive it will look pretty on anyone! This is my 2nd bottle so YES I will buy it again and again and again. This formula performs just as well as a pricier one. I top it off with Seche Vite and it wears just as well as my OPI colors. It applies like a dream (not streaky or too runny) and in only 2 coats to the bottle color. My sister got the Sally Hansen Xtreme wear shade (Marine Scene) that looks almost exactly like this in the bottle but when swatched side by side Caribbean Frost leans more green. I prefer WnW CF over all my other shades of Turquoise actually. Its a warmer turquoise for sure and I cant stop looking at my nails when i wear it! At .93 a bottle this is a must try!
Lipstick -Maybelline - color sensational high shine in pink freeze
IslandGirlSPN 6/18/2012 12:28:00 AM
I adore this shade of girly barbie pink on me as well as the formula. NC25 here. This color makes me feel incredibly girly & I just love it. I use NYX lip liner in Natural to give me a warm base then slather on this lip color right over it to give my lips incredible fullness and a neat play on color of warm and cool that I simply cant stop looking at in the mirror. I love love love it! The lipstick also leaves a nice stain behind to help with lasting power. The formula is slick like a balm and reminds me a lot like the popular Revlon lip butters but these have an orange creamsicle scent and a not so pleasant taste. These two things I loathe in lipsticks but I try to get past that because of the color and how it makes my lips look. I got a lip butter in similar pink called Sweet Tart but it doesnt give quite the same look at Maybelline Pink Freeze does. I also got Tuttie Frutti to try. They look similar except TF is warm.
UPDATE: I HAVE to lower the rating to a 3 from a perfect 5. Sadly after the first use of this eyeliner, its performance for the next several uses suffered greatly. I had flaking in the inner corners of my eyes. The deep black it first produced immediately turned into a grey. Application was splotchy and uneven. I had to work quickly before it dried to try to get an even opaque line. My initial use..... I was blown away by this as you can see by my original review so I have to apologize for not using this liner for a full week before reviewing. My first day of use was just so wonderful I had to review it right away. MY MISTAKE. In the end I will definitely not repurchase and am still un-amazed by anything from CG. ------------------------ORIGINAL REVIEW: I am not usually a fan of Cover Girl products but this eye liner is truly amazing! The formula is a bit runny but not impossible to control. I can create a precise cat eye with the fine felt tip. The color dries as a somewhat shiny but true black. I wore this from 11am until I washed it off around 10pm so I cannot say about its 24 hour claim but it stayed perfect and true to color during that time frame and that is just perfect to me. No flaking or smudging. I have such a horrible time with eye liner smudges even with my UD 24/7 pencils. This liquid liner didnt budge one bit. Cover Girl impressed me with this one. HG for as long as its around! I LOVE IT! ($6 or so @ Target but theres always coupons for $1 off so I paid less! So cheap and just an amazing eye liner!)
I have finally found my HG lip liner pencil! My old HG is an automatic pencil in Dusty Pink by Mary Kay and this is a very very close dupe of if for waaay less money and whats best is that I can just walk into Ulta to buy it. Mary Kay reps are just plain scary to deal with. So I am just thrilled to find a new HG pencil. NC25 here and this color works well to define my lip line to use with a variety of peach to pink lipsticks. Lately I have been using it with my favorite Revlon Lip Butter in Pink Truffle. I am not a big fan of NYX just yet but the lip liner color formula is just perfect!
Misc Beauty Tools -Revlon - Precision Lash Adhesive
IslandGirlSPN 6/16/2012 7:43:00 PM
The price is right ....$3 & change for this @ Walmart .17 oz tube with a wand/brush. LESS of a mess to use than my usual Duo lash glue. BUT it does dry up rather quickly packaged in this style. My Duo glue lasts 3 times longer than this. I feel that the hold of this formula is better than Duo AND the formula doesnt leave a fume that stings my eyes the way Duo does. I will repurchase this over Duo from now on!
I would get this again for the cool toned pinky purple. Its a pretty normal eye shadow and doesnt come across oozing with pigment as the name suggests but the color is stunning on my skin tone & eye color NC25. The darker purple is nice to use as a liner accent but its nothing amazing. Im definitely gaga over the pinky purple which flashes blue. Its gorgeous!! Blends well...I can apply it light or pack it on. Its just as pretty & unique as a UD eye shadow. Im going to get a back up for myself and I already got one as a gift for a friend because I love it that much!
Misc Beauty Tools -Olay - Professional Pro-X Advanced Cleansing System
IslandGirlSPN 6/15/2012 11:21:00 AM
I use this maybe once a week to give my skin a deeper cleaning. I use it with Aveeno Positively Ageless resurfacing scrub & or CVS brand Loreal Revitalift creamy cleanser knockoff. I get great results. My skin is soft, my makeup goes on better and the dry flakies are under control. I used this with their exfoliating renewal cleanser with similar granules to my favorite Aveeno PAR scrub BUT the formula for the Olay is really drying to my already dry skin.
I scored a 5 pc mani set @ BL for just $2.50 which had this shade Royal Purple as well as Berry Pink. The Royal Purple was so pretty I just had to have it and esp for that price ow could I pass it up. They are still dirt cheap full price $2 on the website. The bottle itself feels cheap in my hands..its the cap that is odd. I have to twist it more than I thought in order to secure the cap. Anyway the color....just gorgeous on me NC25. Its definitely a royal purple that would look amazing with gold as an accent. The formula was tricky to use but not impossible. It is thin and will pull if you dont wait for it to dry between coats. This needs 3 coats for sure to get the shade of the bottle. I also made the last coat a little thick. The formula evens out nicely. I topped it off with Seche Vite & it is gorgeous like I knew it would be. I did dishes 3 times and scrubbed my dog down in the tub before it got my first small chip on my thumbnail. That is actually very very impressive! (All that plus I chase my two small toddlers around all day long). Its not the best formula out there & is a little tricky to get right but like I said..it isnt impossible. Overall it is a good polish and I would buy this shade again. My first time using ELF polishes. Next up is the berry pink shade. :)
