Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Possets Terra Incognita

Five black musks, pink and black pepper, silk. Another great Possets musk blend. Not black musk, but the same clean slightly chocolate-y makeup musk in 301 with an onset of black pepper and a fade down with a fruity note that must be the pink pepper. Really nice, but fades within four hours. Later stages develop a BO note that I don't like, almost a cumin feeling, which is not my spice. Still, for most of the four hours, this is a good scent. Might work better on others who don't amp dirty spice notes.

Bourbon vanilla, incense smoke, caramel, incense and whiskey. I get Vanilla extract with ashy smoke, so actually quite like the description. The smoke note really smells like incense ash, vanilla incense ash. Interesting, and so far I'm liking it a lot. Nicely done
Seashore, lime bay rum, ships wax, skin musk, smoke note. On my skin, I get Chocolate musk, tobacco notes and citrus. Odd but strangle nice. The musk is lovely. Weird blending doesn't quite gel, but never clashes quite either, so it's an interesting story being told in fragrance.
Black Musk, black pepper, sweet pear, sage, dry narcissus. This is a wonderful dirty dry musk. Not a dark musk, but that nicely creamy musk Possets does so well, plus an almost saffron like dry note. I don't smell much sweet though there is the faintest suggestion of pear, and my skin amps sweet, so this is a nice balance. Lovely
Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Vagabond Prince Enchanted Forest

A new house by Bertrand Duchaufour, for those of you who know names. The fragrance Enchanted Forest was just released in 2012. Listed notes: pink pepper, aldehydes, sweet orange, flower cassis, blackcurrant leaf, hawthorn, effects of rum and wine, rosemary, davana, blackcurrant buds absolute, Russian coriander seed, honeysuckle, rose, carnation, vetiver, opoponax resinoid, Siam benzoin, amber, oakmoss, fir balsam absolute, Patchouli, castoreum absolute, cedar notes, vanilla, musk. Yeah, it's a lot of notes, but the overall effect is much more simple than would first appear. Out of the vial, the scent is strong and a little off-putting. I thought it would be too masculine and too harsh, but as soon as it hits skin, the lovely bitter purple of black currant blooms with green notes and a suggestion of forest loam. This settles to a boozy spice feeling and finally arrives at a gorgeous spiced amber with a touch of spiky carnation and rose to underline the spices and still a reminder of that dark black currant. A wonderful journey to take in winter and I'm enjoying it very much.
Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Soma Oh, My Gorgeous Passionate

Soma Oh, My Gorgeous Passionate - Listed notes: mandarin blossom, sheer gardenia and vanilla orchid amber and patchouli flower. On me: A light vanilla'd floral. Smells like a body splash from BBW. The florals are nice and sheer and the 'mandarin blossom' is more of a mandarin juice citrus, but the vanilla warms it up and adds a soft layer that robs the whole of sparkle. It is fairly typical of vanilla florals. Not my thing. In the end, I had to scrub because it got cloying, not unusual for sweet vanillas on me. Eh. I don't see the passion, personally.
Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Faberge Straw Hat vingtage

Originally released in 1938 and discontinued in 1976. Lemon, lavender and geranium, rose, violet, heliotrope, and patchouli, vanilla, musk and sandalwood. Definitely smells vintage, possibly because my sample is very old. Smells okay, rather nice and like someone else's memories. It has a definite vintage floral cologne feeling, while being more complex and fleshed out. Somehow it really does hark back to the 1970s. It isn't a scent I recognize myself from that era, but I can see this being a true HG for someone who remembers it with fond sentiment. Lasts well and wears easily.
Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Maurer and Wirtz 4711 Acqua Colonia Lemon Ginger

Smells like detergent from the get-go and doesn't get better. The worst of the Maurer Wirtz I've tried and just horrid, really. Didn't need to scrub but it wasn't nice. Detergent. I don't want to smell like I just crashed disastrously in the soap aisle at Walmart.
Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Maurer and Wirtz 4711 Acqua Colonia Lavender Thyme

Dunno about lavender and thyme. I got a strange herbal chemistry first on which dried to definite lemon and ginger that was okay. I wondered if my swap buddy had gotten the vials mixed up, but nope, I tried the lemon ginger and while it's awful, it's definitely lemon ginger. Hmmm. This one is a fail for me.
Listed notes: Vetiver, ginger, mace, coriander I love this. It smells of water and wood, with a faint hint of coriander. Unfortunately, it's sheer to the point of not being there. I wish it was a lot stronger. Still, it's as beautiful and peaceful as a Zen garden.
Maybe it's a chemistry thing: On me this was vile. I don't know what happened, but there were very marked dirty ashtray notes under the fresh bright flowers. Had to scrub. For reference, orientals often have this overflowing ashtray smell on me, so perhaps the base mix is more oriental than first appears. Still, was a total failure on me.
Great green crisp, almost masculine, but escapes that in being merely herbal. I truly like it a lot, but it lacks longevity. Still, a crispy, lovely herbal this clear and simple is perfect for hot weather.
Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Maurer and Wirtz 4711 Melissa and Verbena
tessture 12/21/2012 11:41:00 AM
Great green verbena. Not sure what Melissa smells like, but this is mostly lemon verbena, a lovely spring scent, light and fresh. Doesn't last long, but quite pretty while it does.
Listed notes: lemon, Nashi pear and cardamom, rose and orange blossom, sandalwood, tonka beans, vanilla and musk On me: Sparkly aldehydes, sharp pepper and grapefruit. Base hints of vanilla, but there's not much there besides a certain softness behind the bright grapefruit and peppery notes. Not my thing, but a zingy bright scent. Would be excellent for the hot days when most perfume is too cloying to bear.
Listed notes: Black Currant, yellow jasmine, musk. On Skin: Overall, it's rather nice. A watery fruited flower with a soft musk base, it manages to be somehow pink in feeling. It's pretty, but iss unremarkable. A good office scent, I'd say.
