Lipstick -MAC - Faux (satin)

I had to write a review for this as it's my new favourite lipstick. I tend to find some pinks quite difficult to wear, but this is a more neutral shade with a hint of mauve to it, and it's very flattering on my skin tone. For reference, I'm roughly an NC15-NC20 with grey eyes and darkest brown hair. In terms of finish and application, as it was a satin I was expecting it to be a tiny bit drying, but so far despite having a fairly matte appearance I have found it to be very pleasant to wear. I team it with a Kryolan lip liner, shade 125 which is described as "nude." I personally think the liner is a darker nude and has mauve undertones, so it pairs really well with Faux. I'd definitely recommend this lipstick if you're a lover of the nude lip, but are looking to inject a bit of colour without losing the sultry but subtle look. It also has great staying power, and I find that reapplying isn't as necessary with this shade as it is with some others. Despite being pale, I can apply this as liberally as I like and the result is never overbearing. Definitely in the same colour family as Blankety, but on my lips I can also draw strong comparisons to Modesty (a cremesheen finish), which I also love. Faux is more of a vintage glamour mauve/pink to me, whereas Modesty is more modern.

Eye Shadow -Lime Crime - Magic Dust [DISCONTINUED]

Despite being very impressed with the foundation primer and finishing powder from this line (both now sadly discontinued), I was largely unimpressed with these pigments. The first disappointment was the size of the jar, I believe I bought it before the increase in size, so I was more than a little shocked at how little product you get, particularly in comparison with other brands selling similar products (e.g. Fyrinnae). The second issue I have, as many others did, was the packaging. During transit one of the pots had leaked due to the lids not screwing on tight enough. This is a consistent problem and I have to keep these separate from all my other make up as they make an extraordinary mess! The sifters are awkward and it's basically a gamble as to whether or not you will end up not being able to get any product out efficiently, or end up looking like a tragic glitter bomb victim. I got three different shades, Nymph, Empress and Enchant. Nymph is by far my favourite, it's a lovely sheer highlighter with a nice colour pay off. Empress was the colour I was most excited about, it's a nice purple but not quite what I was looking for (I really wanted a deep, royal purple, which this isn't, but that's not really a fault of the product). Enchant is a very deep, blackened green and works well in the crease. Overall these weren't bad to use, but the difficulties with the packaging and the fact that the colours and products themselves are just *alright*, rather than being amazing, means that they've been largely relegated to the back of my train case. I think it's great that obviously the concerns of customers have been addressed, to an extent, in that the containers have very recently changed and the amount you get has now doubled. I am not sure if I would re-buy as I feel I can get exciting colours elsewhere. The real beauty of this company for me was in their foundation primer, but with that gone I have less reason to make repeat purchases. That said, as a self proclaimed lipstick addict I am curious to see reviews of the upcoming lipstick line. The colours are adventurous and if the advertising is to be believed, very opaque, so I'll wait to see what the verdict is before purchasing.

Primer/ Corrector -Lime Crime - Foundation Primer [DISCONTINUED]

I am so, so sad that this product has been discontinued. In my opinion it was the highest quality and best performing product on offer from Lime Crime. I only ever tried the matte version and it is fantastic. Regardless of your skin type I think this product can work wonders; I have used it on clients with dry skin and on my own fairly oily combination skin and the results are always good. It leaves the skin feeling silky smooth and creates a great base for other products, I definitely felt that it helped to increase the longevity of my foundation. Although it didn't totally counteract my oily skin, it did help to neutralise it a little, and people with dry skin reported that that it helped improve dry patches. It helped to minimise the visibility of fine lines, and didn't do a bad job with minimising pores, either! It's really hard for me to think of any minus points for this primer, other than the fact that although yes, a little does go a reasonably long way, this definitely applies better to bare skin--if you've moisturised (as I always do), even after giving your moisturiser plenty of time to sink in the application of the primer is definitely not as smooth and you need to use a little bit more. All in all I'm really sad this was discontinued at such short notice. The size of the jar it came in was a perfect size for travelling, too. I really hope that it is re-instated in the future.

Blush -MAC - Mineral Skinfinish-Sunny By Nature
spacedoll 10/14/2009 1:15:00 PM
Although not my favourite MSF by MAC, I decided to give this product a 5 because of its versatility and texture. As previously mentioned in other reviews, depending on how you apply it this shade can work for a variety of skin tones. I find that on darker skins it's a fantastic bronzer and gives a great healthy, flushed look to the cheeks, without being overly shimmery or glittery. I am very pale myself and originally balked at using it assuming it would be too dark, but when applied with a light hand it gives me a very pretty but subtle sun-kissed glow, and due to the minimal amount of shimmer can also be used for contouring (if you're careful!) I selected that I'd buy this again, but truthfully I doubt I will ever be able to use the whole thing, a little does go a really long way.

Polishes -OPI - Pretty at the Premiere

This is the nail polish that I keep coming back to. I rarely buy polish unless I am really bowled over, but this colour was just so beautiful that I couldn't pass it up. I am very pale with a slightly yellow undertone to my skin and it works really well on me. I also find this incredibly easy to apply, it goes on evenly and leaves a fantastic finish, even without a top coat. I wear it year round, but I think it's an exceptional winter-time colour, it's very festive. I'd describe it as a stunning candy apple red.
