Eye Shadow -MAC - Mulch eyeshadow
rated 5 of 5

MAC Mulch is one of my favorite eyeshadows I own! SO pretty. It's a deep coppery brown with a velvet shimmer, that I believe has a very slight shimmer to it - not overbearing, but gives an absolute POP! Mulch is definitely one of those little suckers that can be unpredictable. It will look beautiful on some features, and too orange and muddy on others. All you can do is try it out! I have auburn hair and blue eyes, with neutral fair skin. Though I love coppers, 99% of the time they turn out too red on me. Well, Mulch is that little 1% for me. I love wearing this in the crease or lower lash line. It is perfect for blue eyes. It's pigmentation is unbelievable, and blends flawlessly. And another point, I LOVE using this with MAC Patina on the lid. These two together are like that perfect couple that you secretly envy. They're just absolutely gorgeous. They can be very natural and light, or turned into a sultry smokey eye. Definitely my go-to look everyday (or night)!

Eye Shadow -Hourglass - Exhibition
rated 5 of 5
kathrynannferrel 1/27/2013 10:28:00 PM

Simply ravishing is how I would describe this eyeshadow duo! Just a glimpse at Exhibition and you already know you have a winner. The casing is just gorgeous. These purples come in a sleek compact, with a 360 swivel mirror and a fine quality brush (and may I say absolutely fine quality! The brush that comes with this duo is better than some of the regular eyeshadow brushes I own!), perfect for on the go! These two purple hues are some of the prettiest colors I own. Normally I stick with neutrals and don't venture out to highly colored eyeshadows, but when I saw this Hourglass product at Sephora, I knew I had to have my hands on it. The lighter purple is a plum-my lavender shade, which I generally prefer to blend out on the lid on its own. If you want that nighttime drama, add the dark burgundy for complete appeal! The colors are so smooth and easily blend able, its almost hard to believe. But believe it ladies! Yes, it is a bit expensive, but the pigment and overall beauty of these shadows is worth every penny.

Tinted Moisturizer -Smashbox - Sheer Focus Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15
rated 2 of 5
kathrynannferrel 1/27/2013 10:17:00 PM

Just not that great - or at least for me. I bought this Smashbox product in luminous, and have just finished the tube, and I do not plan on picking this up ever again. For my fair, neutral-toned skin, I felt this tinted moisturizer has too much of a yellow undertone to it, and made me look a shade of orange in some areas of my face... Which leads me to another problem, I didn't find this to apply very evenly. On my T-Zone it often looked like I had applied too much, and on my cheeks it was spotty. Definitely was too oily, and I believe it lead to some breakouts on my skin. I tried to like it but I just can't. Looks like I'm on the hunt for a better tinted moisturizer for me.

Eye Shadow -MAC - MAC Orb Eyeshadow
rated 4 of 5
kathrynannferrel 1/27/2013 10:08:00 PM

Something all fair skinned ladies must buy! This shadow is a matte, peachy beige that is the perfect match for my light skin. I love to use Orb as a base, highlight, or an 'eraser' for any mistakes I make with eyeshadow. If I want to go a very natural route, I'll pat this all over the eyelids for a subtle color. It doesn't go on chalky, and though I wouldn't say this is the most pigmented shadow I've bought from MAC, it does gather enough to do the trick. I will repurchase, but I haven't hit the pan yet and I've had my first Orb for more than a year now. Orb sure lasts!

Eye Shadow -Maybelline - Expert Wear Eyeshadow Trios - Almond Satin
rated 2 of 5
kathrynannferrel 1/4/2013 11:05:00 AM

I was so excited to try these shades once I saw them in store. They looked like very pretty taupes/brown-grays, but hardly any of that came out onto the lid. I've had pretty good luck with Maybelline shadows, but not this one. Almond Satin may be one of the worst pigmented shadows I've tried. I feel like I have to scrape the pan to get something, and when I do, it just looks chalky and is worn off in just hours even with primer. Don't let the colors deceive you, the product is not good!

Eye Shadow -MAC - Espresso
rated 5 of 5
kathrynannferrel 1/4/2013 10:54:00 AM

Definitely one of MAC's staples. It is the universal brown for everyone, even for us fair ladies in the crease or as liner. Espresso is as matte as matte gets I know it looks boring in the pan, but translates to beauty once near the eye. If you're a lover of brown eyeshadow, then I would suggest adding this shade to your collection.

Eye Shadow -Maybelline - ExpertWear Eyeshadow Quad in Chai Latte
rated 3 of 5
kathrynannferrel 1/4/2013 10:48:00 AM

I've heard so many raves and even labels as "best drugstore eyeshadow palette" for Chai Latte, so I figured I may as well try it, especially for the price. I am a sucker for neutral eyeshadows, but this product just doesn't do it for me. The shadows look nice in the packaging, but on my lids they're "meh" at best. The pigmentation is decent and stays on for a good work day, but overall these are the wrong colors for my hair and skin tone. I think it'd look great on medium tones and darker features.

Eye Shadow -Maybelline - Expert Wear Eye Trio in Chocolate Mousse
rated 4 of 5
kathrynannferrel 1/4/2013 10:42:00 AM

One of the best trios I have ever used! With my hair and skin color, often I find even neutral eyeshadows to pull orange or just look too dull on me. But with the lovely Chocolate Mousse trio here, I get an all around soft and beautiful look for a great price! The lid color is light brown beige with subtle shimmers, and has a sort of mauve undertone to it. It isn't the most pigmented color, but it is good for those looking for a more natural look. I adore the crease color! I always have thought I should avoid red-brown colors, but this one has taught me otherwise! It blends so perfectly and is a perfect match with the lid color. The highlighter/base color is your everyday matte cream shade. Nice staying powder, and not too chalky. However, I did take a lipstick off because I prefer the old trio design to the new. The original version is like the one pictured above, where all the colors come in the same amount, and I even find their quality to be a bit better than that of the newer design. The current version refers to the highlight color as a base now, and is twice the size of the lid and crease color. Fortunately I still own one of the older palettes, but I'm begging Maybelline, PLEASE return to the original design for this trio. I love it so much more!

Eye Shadow -MAC - Naked Lunch
rated 4 of 5
kathrynannferrel 1/4/2013 10:26:00 AM

A simple, yet very pretty eyeshadow by MAC. Described as a pink champagne frost, it is the exact color of my fair skin tone, so I really like to wear this as an all over color for a natural look. It is very shimmery, which for me can go on either beautifully or patch-y. Very pigmented and a little goes a long way - I really only need a swipe or two of this on my brush and voila! Instant glam!

Eyeliner -Revlon - Colorstay Eyeliner
rated 5 of 5
kathrynannferrel 12/25/2012 6:39:00 PM

This is one of the first eyeliners that I have ever purchased in my days of make up, and boy did I pick a good one! This colorstay eyeliner is like a gel pencil. I use either black brown or black, depending if I'm going natural or more dramatic, and each glides on smoothly with precision. Doesn't run or smudge, and stays on all day long. I also love how this liner comes with its own sharpener. So very nice!

Eye Primer -Urban Decay - Eyeshadow Primer Potion - Original (UDPP)
rated 5 of 5
kathrynannferrel 12/25/2012 6:29:00 PM

I think it's pretty obvious that this is an awesome primer. I've never had an eyeshadow that's creased or look uneven over UDPP. Simply one of the best primers on the market!

Mascara -Cover Girl - Lash Perfection Volumizing Mascara
rated 5 of 5
kathrynannferrel 12/25/2012 6:22:00 PM

Of all the mascaras I have tried (which I have tried A LOT), I always come back to Covergirl's Lash Perfection. It truly is the best mascara I've used, and what's even better, one of the least expensive! I always get a little excited when it's time to do my lashes for my daily routine. (I find joy in the littlest of things). With this little number, all I need is 2-3 coats to beautifully lengthen and thicken my eye lashes. The good Lord didn't bless me with the greatest of lashes - they're rather short and look invisible without mascara. But you wouldn't know that with this product! Lash perfection gives me the lashes I have always dreamed of. I like the packaging, but packaging never really affects my ratings (unless it's one of those unsightly Maybelline bottles! Yuck!). The silver design is simple yet chic, and the brush is pretty basic but easy-to-use. As long as Covergirl keeps making this mascara, I will keep buying!

Eye Shadow -MAC - Patina (Frost)
rated 5 of 5
kathrynannferrel 12/25/2012 6:02:00 PM

MAC Patina: my love and life. This color is absolutely one of the best eyeshadow colors I have ever purchased! A broad generalization of this color is considered a medium taupe brown, but it is so much more than that. Oh so much more. With a closer look, Patina casts a subtle golden shimmer with plum-y undertones as well. Such a gorgeous color, and so unique, it is almost indescribable! This color is not too light nor too dark. I would almost consider Patina to be more of a satin or velvet than a frost - there is a slight shimmer but looks so smooth and luxe on the eye lid. I have naturally red-auburn hair, blue eyes, and fair "peaches and cream" skin tone. I am always drawn to brown eyeshadows as I love a good brown smokey eye, but unfortunately browns can look either too red or too gray on me. But not Patina! This lovely little gem molds perfectly to my appearance. It glows so beautifully with my hair color and accentuates my blue eyes. Patina is soft but gives enough definition for any way I wear it. I typically sweep Patina all over the lid over a primer, and blend for a simply sexy look. I love pairing MAC Charcoal Brown into the crease along with this. For more intense drama, I'll add a little bit of MAC Mulch into the crease; this pair is raved about all over every blog and review I have read, and I understand why - GORGEOUS. Also, this shadow is so beautiful as a crease color with Mac Omega on my lid for my coloring. This combination is so sexy but natural. Love it! I do believe that MAC's Patina is one of their best eye shadows created, and consider myself to be very blessed to have found this beauty! Patina is forever mine.
