Highlighters -Guerlain - Les Meteorites balls powder
jejkim 9/6/2010 5:40:00 PM
I finally caved and got the meteorites in Teint Dore, the darkest color that came out with the LE Summer edition. Beautiful packaging, and it does a good job of giving the skin a very natural illuminating glow/radiance. If you're having a hard time choosing a color, just brush them onto your hand or arm, then swipe it off with a tissue to see what the underlying colors are. Teint Dore is actually the best of the bunch and universally flattering. It's hard to overdo it with the formula. This is my first Guerlain purchase and I can see why people rave about it. It's a bit tricky to figure out how much to put on, but once you do, you're skin will look a lot better. This meteorites look best in low light, indoor or evening lighting. It's almost imperceptible to the eye, which is what Guerlain was aiming for with the formula. The smell is quite strong but it dissipates and you'll get used to it. If you're good with makeup, this will turn out to be a good staple product in your stash. It looks great on the neck, shoulders and decollete as well.

Bronzers -Guerlain - Terracotta Light Sheer Bronzing Powder-Blondes 01
jejkim 9/5/2010 11:41:00 AM

C'est magnifique!!! Got this on a rec from the MA at Neimans and I have to say, it's a great bronzer. I was skeptical since I generally use Nars Laguna or Chanel and both are great with different textures/formulas/color payoff. Also, the pink color in the mosaic made me hesitant. Wasn't sure how it would incorporate into the bronze color. This bronzer is very finely milled. It goes on a beautiful caramel color and even though I was afraid it swatched with almost no color, it's very buildable. Whatever brush you use, this bronzer applied well to the face: almost fool-proof. It has noticeable bits of gold glitter, but that's what imparts the luminous glow that you don't get with other bronzers. This color looks great on pale skin and I'll be using it into winter. The smell takes some getting used to: it's a nice scent but fairly strong and the packaging is very old French. I like it. This is a product I'm definitely keeping in my makeup lab. Thank you Guerlain for making a product that gives me back my skin from my early 20's, but better!

Polishes -Essie - Castaway

Perfect Barbie pink color: bright, cool toned and great for the summer. I find it a bit bright during the day, but it's the perfect shade of pink for evening looks. This is the only pink n/p color that guys actually compliment me on...so I think this is a keeper.

Gorgeous shimmery silver n/p that shines like brilliant diamonds. It looks best in direct daylight. The formula is good, but goes on a bit uneven and goopy so you need at least 2 coats. After that, you're good to go. I use this mainly as an accent color but it goes well on it's own. It's a cool tone color that looks good on all skintones.

Polishes -Essie - Van d'Go

I love this color. It's the perfect light pastel peach with a hint of pink for the ultimate coral color for summer. It does go on a bit streaky but at 2 thick coats, it's opaque. It's a warm color that should look good on all skin tones. I used this for a Kawaii nail look paired with Opi DS Coronation as a french tip and lined with rhinestones. Great weekend look.

Polishes -Essie - Playa Del Platinum

This is the squirrel grey color I was looking for. Beige/gray which is huge for this Fall. It's a better color than Deborah Lippmann's Waking up in Vegas color that Gaga is wearing on the 09 issue of Vanity Fair. You can check out the swatches online. The color is the it-color for the season and looks great alone or layered in other nail looks. I was hoping Rimmel's Steel Grey would be this color. Same great quality as with all Essie nail polishes.

Polishes -Rimmel - Lasting Finish Pro - Steel Grey
jejkim 8/24/2010 11:43:00 PM
This n/p is an interesting color: taupey/ever so purple tinged/grey. I was hoping it'd be a squirrel grey, matte light grey tinge. This color looks disgusting at night or in low light but during the day or in light, it's cute in a pug like way (ugly dog but cute, right? That's what I mean...). The formula is amazingly smooth and leaves a quick drying, high gloss finish. Love the flat, wide rounded brush. The quality is better than Chanel n/p which are exponentially more expensive. With that said, the color is definitely not for everyone. This color looks best on short nails. Overall, it's a great polish...but Rimmel...please bring back the Milk Chocolate color!

Shampoo -Batiste - Dry Shampoo
jejkim 8/23/2010 8:20:00 PM
I'd like to thank the person who invented this ingenous product, then also belledujournyc on YT who reviewed and raved about it. Never used a dry shampoo before but am about halfway through the can. It's packaged well, priced very reasonably (just look for it at specialty beauty supply stores or online for deals) and does a fantastic job of keeping my hair looking and feeling good in between washes. I have a super oily scalp so one day is enough time for major buildup, especially in the summer. This product cleans the oils quickly, smells great (got the original scent) and leaves my hair with more volume than I normally get after just washing my hair. I couldn't live without this product and am so glad I tried it. It's HG. Haven't tried the more expensive brands: there's countless of them now at Sephora and beauty boutiques but am not interested. Batiste is the bargain dry shampoo that does it all.

Eye Shadow -Wet 'n' Wild - Color Icon #252B Nutty
jejkim 8/23/2010 5:36:00 PM
I completely agree with all the good reviews of Nutty. First time trying a WnW eyeshadow and the color, consistency and price are amazing. This color, which is a dupe for MAC's Satin Taupe, is amazing. Without eye primer, it still lasts all day, no feathering, the product is buttery soft and color is a gorgeous, slightly shimmery taupe that's great for day or night. I'm looking forward to trying other colors.

Blush -Maybelline - Dream Mousse Blush in Peach Satin ] ] [DISCONTINUED]
jejkim 8/23/2010 5:00:00 PM
Saw a bad review for this product on YT but decided to try it out anyway. I love this blush. The consistency/texture makes it apply effortlessly and perfectly to skin. I didn't think I would be able to use/like this product because I have combo skin but, for the price (literally a steal at 40% off at RiteAid), quality of packaging (glass container) and color, it is fabulous! This is the first cream blush I've tried and am using and the color gives a very natural, glowy peach/pink color to cheeks. A little goes a long way with this product and its creamy texture glides on and blends well. Looks like you don't have any makeup on the cheeks. Try this blush out! I'm still stunned at the color, price and quality of this blush and like it so much I went back to the store and got the Pink Frosting color too.

Eye Shadow -Victoria's Secret - Lose Control
jejkim 8/16/2010 6:16:00 PM
Second fav VS eyeshadow color. This is a dark chocolate brown shadow with gold sparkle like other reviewers have mentioned. Goes on pigmented but you can sheer it out with blending. The quality of the eyeshadow is amazing and it's buttery soft. Packaging is good and the price is spot on. Not sure if it's a dupe for NARS Galapagos but will test it out.

Eye Shadow -Victoria's Secret - Private Beach
jejkim 8/16/2010 4:14:00 PM
This color looked great when I swatched it on my hand, but on my eyes, it's such a blah color. Although it's description says taupe brown, it's more of a pink/mauve shimmer shadow which stays on all day, but just has too muted a tone for my skin (ranges from NC20-NC40). This shadow color is a disappointment. Tried it with many different looks and it just looks so below ordinary. The only place I may wear this color is to the office. Packaging is good and the quality of the shadow is excellent, the only drawback is the color: gross brown/purple/pink.

Eye Shadow -Victoria's Secret - Silk Eyeshadow in Provocateur
jejkim 8/16/2010 4:09:00 PM
Like everyone else mentioned, this is a gorgeous color! My first purchase from VS makeup and will continue to purchase. The color is deceptive: it looks unassuming in the container but when you swatch it, and apply it, it's a beautiful peach/coral/pink color that works on every skintone. It's not too light, but not dark either, yet it'll give you a wonderful color payoff for either all over lid or highlight that lasts all day and doesn't crease. I generally stick to browns and neutrals and this is a one-of-a-kind color. I generally can't get away with this light a color as an all over lid color but this one works. It's the best color in the eyeshadow line, hands down. It is sparkly, as it's a sparkle shadow, but it's tame enough and not tacky, to wear to the office, or is a wonderful daytime color or night look if you layer it over darker colors. Great packaging and the consistency of the product is silky smooth. Very glad to have seen a rec for this shadow on YT from a makeup guru (Hollyannaeree).

Lipstick -MAC - Satin Lipstick - Myth
jejkim 7/6/2010 10:56:00 PM
Alright, so I bought into the hype and picked this up while browsing at MAC based on everyone else's reviews. I have more than enough nude lipsticks to last me for a lifetime. This is a really great nude color. Contrary to what you may think, this does swatch and apply with a different color payoff from Revlon's nude or NARS' Belle De Jour. They are all unique lipsticks. MAC's Myth feels midway creamy and hydrates and gives an extremely opaque payoff. If you want to tone it down, do one layer, or more layers for intensity. It's a neutral light beige color. On light skin, it looks pale, with no yellow or pink undertones. On darker skin, it will look light beige, but with no contrasting undertones. The color is very versatile either alone or mixed with other colors. If you're not an expert at color, don't reach for this, but if you're experimenting or know what you're doing, this is a great base color for use in your makeup wardrobe. It's legendary for a reason.

Lipstick -MAC - Viva Glam Gaga
jejkim 7/6/2010 10:41:00 PM
This is the perfect, beautiful light pink color. Not too warm, not too cool: it basically works on everyone. The SA pointed it out to me, while browsing for other colors of interest...I actually thought it was still sold out. Restocked, everyone! To my surprise, it's the perfect pink color for day and night looks. It's sheer with one coat, and you can build it up to a heavy opaque. I've been using it daily for a week and have fallen in love. It can do no wrong. Try it out: it's definitely a wearable color, more so than what you may think by looking at the campaign ad or swatching it. I'm glad I happened to find this color. It'll be a staple color for anyone.
