Lipstick -Revlon - ColorBurst in 070 Soft Nude [DISCONTINUED]
Walhalla 6/16/2011 12:38:00 AM
This lipstick doesn't smell anything, which I LOVE. The consistency is creamy and it goes on sheer or opaque, depending on the look you're going for. It can easily be layered on top of other lipsticks too. Its staying power is decent, I guess, but I tend to constantly drink water, so I always have to reapply during the day. . It accentuates dry, flaky skin, though, so lips have to be well hydrated/exfoliated (as already stated by tons of people before me). Its shape is a bit weird and not very practical for application on the top lip, but it's not a big deal. . As for the color itself... When I bought this lipstick a few months ago, I was very fair, cool-toned (probably around NW10-15, I don't know my exact shade). The color made me look dead and appeared more yellow-ish than pink-ish on me. I always had to layer it with a pink lipgloss or lipstick. But now that summer is finally here, I'm more tanned and I can wear this lipstick by itself. It looks lovely (or so I think :D).

Eyeliner -Urban Decay - 24-7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero
Walhalla 6/11/2011 10:01:00 AM
I didn't really have high expectations for this eyeliner. I was looking for something that would stay put on my waterline (other than gel liners) and when I went to a conference in Boston back in early May, I figured I'd take this opportunity to buy whatever isn't easily accessible for me in Canada (especially considering there's no Sephora around here). I'm glad I didn't pay the Canadian price for this... . Don't get me wrong; it's a nice pencil. Smooth texture, great pigmentation, very black. It definitely feels like a product of high quality. Unfortunately, it slides off my waterline in less than 30 minutes. Now, if it were the only problem, I wouldn't mind (I never expected it to stay on my waterline), BUT it smudges everywhere else. It transfers from my upper lid through my lashes to my undereye region. It never happened with any other cheaper eyeliner I tried before. I don't even have oily lids and always use a primer... . I'll keep using it, but definitely won't repurchase.

Lipstick -MAC - Viva Glam Cyndi [DISCONTINUED]
Walhalla 5/18/2011 10:43:00 AM
I bought this lipstick months ago after reading reviews about it being a good red for people who are not comfortable wearing true reds. I love the texture, the smell is lovely and it's super easy to build color up to a deep raspberry shade. I, however, don't really wear it because it's still too red for me... I have pale skin with pink undertones and some redness around my nose and eyes. I feel like this color accentuates the overall redness of my face (which is not that bad to begin with), no matter how much concealer/foundation/powder I use, and it makes me look like, yes, *dramatic cue* a clownish whore who doesn't know how to apply makeup... Still! I totally recommend it if you think you can rock this shade (better try it in store first, though, if you have doubts -and if you can still find it- especially considering it's not cheap!).

Moisturizers -St. Ives - St. Ives Timeless Skin Collagen Elastin Facial Moisturizer
Walhalla 5/18/2011 10:01:00 AM
Indeed, this is a decent moisturizer, but doesn't work very well on dry skin. I have combination skin, but my dry areas are very... dry (yay for synonyms!), so this is not enough for me. I usually use it in the morning because it's definitely not thick enough as a night cream. The scent is fine and it sinks in relatively quickly into my skin, but I find that the texture becomes sticky (as in more viscous) after massaging for several seconds. This sticky feeling goes away after a few minutes, though, but I was a little surprised when I first used it. Not sure about the "timeless/ageless" properties of this product, but as a basic moisturizer, I suppose it would work best for people with oilier skin. I won't repurchase when I'll be done with it, which will take a while because the tube is huge.

Eye Primer -NYX - HD High Definition Eyeshadow Base
Walhalla 5/16/2011 2:07:00 PM
This primer definitely works! I've been using it for almost 2 months now (not everyday, though), alternating with UDPP. It's easy to apply and spread over and around the entire lid (a lot less thick and viscous than UDPP). It's a bit sticky, but eyeshadows are still very easy to apply and blend on the lid. I was a bit worried at first because I have red eyelids + visible red/blue veins and this primer is transparent when applied to the lids. It doesn't really even out skin tone either. However, any shadow applied on top becomes opaque and pigmented (unless it's supposed to be sheer), so I don't need to use concealer or anything like that between the primer and eyeshadows. It doesn't smooth out lines, or whatever else is claimed on the packaging, but it holds the eyeshadows in place until the next morning. I don't have oily eyelids, though, so it might be different for those who do. . EDIT: After using it throughout the summer, I noticed that on particularly hot and humid days, my eyeshadow would crease by the end of the day (same thing happens with UDPP for me). Still better than if I hadn't used any primer, but I removed one lippie.

Cleansers -Olay - Daily Facials Express- Sensitive Skin
Walhalla 5/4/2011 4:25:00 PM
I got those because they were on sale. They are not bad to remove makeup. I haven't used them for my eyes because they are very sensitive, but for light face makeup, these cloths are fine. But oh man, do they ever smell like ass! More specifically, they smell like garbage. Or, like a banana peel that's been sitting around for a few days... They kinda have the same texture too. They leave a weird, slippery film on the skin (and hands), but to be fair, it goes away when it dries after a few minutes. I just can't bring myself to give those more than 2/5 and definitely will not purchase again.

Mascara -L'Oreal - Voluminous mascara
Walhalla 4/21/2011 12:03:00 PM
It's an all right product. At first, I liked it a lot. I bought it 4 or 5 times so far, mostly in black. But it seems that over the years, their formula has become clumpier and clumpier. I have naturally long, curly lashes, so they often looked like a big clumpy mess when I couldn't get the application right. Even my boyfriend noticed, which says a LOT, haha. Aside from that, I've always thought its staying power was good, it didn't sting my eyes and it didn't really flake. I might try it again in a few months/years, but for now, I'll look for something else.

Eye Makeup Remover -Neutrogena - Eye Makeup Remover Lotion
Walhalla 4/18/2011 6:37:00 PM
This lotion adequately removes most of my makeup. I usually don't wear heavy, waterproof stuff, though. Aside from that, it stings like hell! I bought this to replace my previous makeup remover (from Nivea), which, by the way, also stung my eyes badly. Obviously won't purchase again.

Toners -Garnier - Fresh Toner
Walhalla 4/17/2011 11:44:00 PM
I'm not sure what this product is supposed to do. It smells nice and doesn't irritate my skin, but that's about it. It dries out my skin a little bit and removes makeup residue as well as water would... No skin tone evening, no brightening effect, no texture improvement. I don't see the necessity of adding this step in my skin care routine. I've only been using it for a month, though, so I'll edit this out if anything improves. But so far, not impressed.

Moisturizers -Olay - Age Defying Intensive Nourishing Night Cream
Walhalla 4/12/2011 11:01:00 AM
This is one of the worst night creams I've ever tried. I was so surprised to see all those positive reviews that I had to double-check the name on my jar to make sure I was reviewing the same thing. Good to know it works for some people, though (I guess >.>). I'm halfway done with the jar and I can't stand it anymore. I have combination skin, but it's mostly dry and dehydrated. A few points about this moisturizer: --- 1- Nice texture. It doesn't leave my skin too greasy. 2- But it's so lightweight that it actually doesn't moisturize at all. I can already see dry spots 5 minutes after application and my skin doesn't feel moisturized/hydrated. This is not thick enough for a night cream (not for me, at least). 3- It leaves the skin sticky after application. I applied it maybe 40-50 minutes ago, and it's still sticky! 4- I don't really like the scent, but whatever, I've smelled worse in terms of night creams. 5- Not sure it does anything to defy my age or improve texture, but I'll give it some more time... --- There. I'll finish the jar because I hate throwing unused product away, but I won't re-purchase.

Lipstick -L'Oreal - Color Riche - Made for me naturals NUDE
Walhalla 4/3/2011 10:24:00 AM
I originally wanted to try Fairest Nude, but sadly, like many other things, it is not available in Canada (or at least, not in Montreal). I got this "Made for me naturals" nude lipstick instead. I only wear this with a pinkish/nude lipgloss on top. Otherwise, it doesn't do much. The texture is creamy, but very "slippery". I have to apply many layers for it to show up decently. It doesn't dry my lips, but the lasting power isn't impressive. Yes, the smell is disturbing, but the taste bothers me a lot more, although I've seen worse (*cough*Rimmel*cough*). My mom used to wear L'Oreal lipsticks all the time when I was young, so it just reminds me of her (which is not a bad thing because she was a nice lady :D). Anyway, I'm fair with pinkish undertones and my lips are relatively pigmented. This color appears brown/mauve-ish on me, which is... meh. Not that bad, but not amazing either. As I said, I can use it topped with a lipgloss, but I will not repurchase.

Moisturizers -Garnier - Ultra lift pro deep wrinkle cream
Walhalla 4/1/2011 2:22:00 PM
I bought the "Night Cream" version of this and just finished the jar. I have yet to find a night cream that I really like... As others have pointed out before me, this has a heavy floral scent. I wouldn't say it's a bad smell, but it's definitely strong and lingers for a while after the application. It was OK as a moisturizer, but nothing more. I didn't notice any improvement on my wrinkles (granted, I don't have a lot) and I thought it was quite greasy. When I woke up in the morning, my face was always very oily/shiny. Blah.

Cleansers -Yves Rocher - Pure Calmille Cleansing Gel
Walhalla 3/24/2011 11:45:00 PM
This is all right, but nothing more. It's a decent face cleanser, but it didn't leave my skin soft, smooth, radiant or anything like that. I have relatively dry skin and didn't notice it getting worse (or better) after using this gel. I will not repurchase because I feel there's much better out there.

Scrubs -St. Ives - St. Ives Gentle Apricot Scrub
Walhalla 3/24/2011 11:35:00 PM
I actually got a tube of this years ago and just finished it! I've been using it once or twice a week for the past few months and I have to say it's pretty good. I don't really have sensitive skin, but it's always been dry, so I went for the gentle version. I'm pretty sure the normal version would've been too harsh for my skin. It smells good, leaves the skin soft and fresh and is easy to rinse. That's all I expect from a facial scrub.

Lip Gloss -NYX - Smokey Look
Walhalla 3/16/2011 9:09:00 AM
At first, I wasn't impressed with this lip gloss. The smell combined with the fact that it stung when I applied it on my lips made it look like a very cheap gloss that I would've bought when I was 14. However, the stinging feeling never appeared again and honestly, I don't mind the smell (more like cherry bubblegum to me). I like that it's matte and it looks very nice on top of a pinkish nude lipstick. The texture is excellent, but I rarely wear it by itself because I don't think it lasts very long. I'd like to try other colours, but those lip glosses are not available here in Montreal (that I know of), so I might have to wait until next time I go to the States.
