Top/Base Coats -Seche Vite - Dry Fast Top Coat

I’m surprised at how view reviews there are for this product, as it seems to be raved about. I got my recommendation from the Vogue Forum (Australia) but like some other reviewers, I wasn’t impressed with the thick consistency of the product. It seems by its consistency that it’s already 3 years old when you open it! It does provide mirror shine to nails but the disappointment for me is that it peels too easily which is not a good look when you want a long-lasting pedicure. I don’t think I’ll repurchase.

Hair -John Frieda - Sheer Blonde Instant Conditioner
rated 5 of 5

This is a thick conditioner and may be too heavy for really fine hair. I don’t put it near my roots but it is great on the lengths and ends of my long, blonde frizz-prone locks. It adds back moisture without weighing my hair down and smells good, too. I have already repurchased.

I find this gently cleanses my hair and adds back some moisture. I usually only use salon products so for a drugstore offering this is very good. I have already repurchased.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Aquadisiac
rated 4 of 5
Eleven 10/11/2007 6:39:00 PM

I was lucky enough to get this as in the goodie bag from Rosemount Australian Fashion Week this week, as I’d been tempted to buy this colour several times. I’d call this a true green aqua as opposed to a blue aqua. I’m C2, PPP with blue eyes and blonde hair and this is a great fun summer colour. I imagine it would work well on more tanned and/or olive girls as well. It’s not exactly a subtle shade but it’s not too OTT as the shimmer particles hardly show up on my lids. If you apply lightly you can have a sheer wash of colour and if you’re a bit more heavy-handed you can get a nice look with this, too.

Lip Gloss -MAC - Touchpoint 3D Glass
rated 4 of 5
Eleven 10/8/2007 10:59:00 PM

In the tube, Touchpoint is a pretty cool-toned pink with blue micro-shimmer that also flashes green. I agree it’s a cousin of Palatial, which I also use. It has a really nice texture and feels cushioning on the lips. The disappointment to me is that it’s incredibly sheer and my lips are naturally so pale that I don’t like to wear this on its own and for this I’ve knocked off a lippie. However, over lipstick or liner this is very good. I also find the brush doesn’t pick up much gloss. I’ve never has this problem with a MAC gloss before and it’s annoying.

Conditioner -L'Oreal - Lumino Colour
rated 5 of 5

This is a thick conditioner that helps to deeply nourish hair. This range is designed to add radiance to coloured hair. I’m not sure how it can actually do that but it works to add moisture to my hair and help tame frizz and fly aways. I tend to leave it on my long, fine, blonde hair for about 5 minutes in the shower before rinsing out. A little bit goes a long way. I would repurchase.

Shampoo -L'Oreal - Lumino Colour
rated 4 of 5

This shampoo is designed to keep coloured hair radiant. The Kerastase equivalent is the Bain Miroir. I find the Kerastase to be gentler on my hair. That said, the Lumino Colour is a reasonable shampoo. It’s not high on lather and is clear, not creamy. It smells sweet, as most L’Oreal Professionnel products do.

Polishes -OPI - An Affair in Red Square
rated 5 of 5
Eleven 9/23/2007 9:54:00 PM

Along with the other two reviewers, this is quite similar to I’m Not Really A Waitress in that it’s a highly sophisticated deep blue-based red with subtle red shimmer. It’s a really strong red that is tasteful and I imagine would work well with a variety of skin tones. I’m super pale and on my toes the elegant red is a lovely contrast to my white feet. This is a real winner from OPI – and such a cute name typical of OPI!

Lotions/ Creams -Molton Brown - Ultrasmooth Coco de Mer Body Lotion
rated 4 of 5
Eleven 9/12/2007 10:06:00 PM

This has a very subtle fragrance and lightly moisturises without any greasy residue. It’s a nice moisturiser but I can’t justify the price because it doesn’t smell super wonderful and/or have any remarkable moisturising properties so you can buy other products that are just as good for less than half the price. Nevertheless, a lovely luxury product.

Lip Gloss -Nivea - Nivea Lipcare Caregloss and Shine
rated 4 of 5
Eleven 9/12/2007 9:58:00 PM

For something that’s under 5AUD this quite good. I bought Pink Shimmer. It’s a pale shimmery pink that has enough pigment that it’s like a lipgloss in colour, as it’s not overly sheer. It works well alone as a lipgloss and over lipstick while it moisturises your lips like a balm. The consistency is a little thinner than the type of glosses I’d usually go for (MAC is my fave) but I bought it more as a balm than a gloss so that’s okay. It just means I need to reapply it fairly regularly but at the price who cares? The packaging is convenient and the taste and smell is pleasant without being overpowering. I will repurchase as it’s a bargain.

Cleansers -Nivea - Re-Hydrating Wash Cream
rated 1 of 5
Eleven 8/26/2007 8:06:00 PM

This is designed for mature skins and even though I’m in my 20s my skin was rather dry this unusually cold winter so I thought I’d give this a go. Yuck, yuck, yuck! This is so strongly fragranced it couldn’t be good for sensitive skin or noses. I’m not sure if it is the fragrance or one of the ingredients but it stung my skin the two times I used it so it was promptly thrown in the bin. And because it’s so full of so-called hydrating ingredients it left my skin feeling greasy and not clean at all. I thought products designed for mature skins would be kind and gentle but Nivea hasn’t delivered the goods with this one. I don’t recommend this at all.

Lip Gloss -MAC - Electro-Lush Lipglass
rated 5 of 5
Eleven 8/10/2007 12:04:00 AM

MAC describes this as a creamy blue pink. In the tube it looks like a light berry shade and on my naturally pale lips (cool-toned PPP, blue eyes, blonde hair for reference) it seems to be a reddy-pink that suits my complexion. It definitely seems to add redness to my lips which I wasn’t expecting but isn’t a bad thing. I like that this is a cream gloss with no shimmer. It’s semi-sheer, wears well, moisturises my lips and wears off evenly. It’s a really nice winter colour. Once again, MAC has produced a superior lipgloss.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Mineralize Eyeshadow in Mercurial
rated 5 of 5
Eleven 8/9/2007 11:58:00 PM

This is part of the Flashtronic collection and although I had promised myself not to be tempted, this eye shadow got me as it looks gorgeous in the pan with its different veins of shimmery colour. I’m a cool-toned PPP with blue eyes and blonde hair and on my lids it’s a shimmery wash of a golden taupe. It’s subtle applied dry so I prefer to apply it wet to increase the intensity a bit, and even then it’s not OTT for day as it’s a sheer wash. I do like this but I don’t love it, which I expected I would so even though it’s LE I won’t buy a back up (also, the pot is a large 2.2g so it’ll last for ages).

Mascara -Clinique - Lash Curling Mascara
rated 1 of 5
Eleven 8/9/2007 6:47:00 PM

This mascara hasn’t inspired me to change my mind on Clinique mascaras. There is one word for it: yuck. Perhaps the wand does help to give and hold curl, although I’m not convinced, but it doesn’t thicken or do anything for my long but thin lashes. It barely even defines them nicely. It was a GWP so I didn’t pay for this rubbish and definitely wouldn’t recommend.

Mascara -Clinique - high definition lashes
rated 1 of 5
Eleven 8/9/2007 6:42:00 PM

I am yet to find a Clinique mascara I like. This is no exception. The comb part of the wand picks up way too much product and gives clumpy, spidery lashes. The brush part of the wand is the opposite: it doesn’t pick up enough product and barely makes a difference to your lashes. I have found a good use for the brush part of the wand, though: I use it on my bottom lashes where I want very simple definition. On my top lashes I need more drama without clumps. Luckily I got this as a GWP and didn’t have to pay for this rubbish. I definitely wouldn’t recommend.
