Eye Primer -MAC - Prep + Prime Eye
Boxerface 12/30/2012 7:16:00 PM
Disappointed. : *( I have hooded eyelids and eye shadow tends to crease easily on me. Add to this I do not have a lot of property around my eye lids. This means with little hooded eye lids I need to keep it simple. I need a primer to keep the eye shadow where it needs to stay. This did not work for me. Crease CITY!!! And worse with the creases came flakey-ness and an ugly mess. I tried this with my Urban Decay NAKED 2. And found the UD shadow works best without any primer. This primer made the eye make up too heavy. Not for me. I do not want creases. Maybe it works better for the dry eyelid lady with lots of area to shadow.

Mascara -Lancome - Hypnose Drama
Boxerface 12/30/2012 7:07:00 PM
If you can afford Lancome or are lucky enough to get Sephora points grab this mascara. It rocks! I have thin, frazzled, ugly and practically bald lashes. I need all the help I can get. I need thickness, volume and definition. And wow this does the trick. And it does not clump or dry out. It does not smear or wear off. I love the wand. It has an S shape that is smooth on one side or a portion of the wand and the other to fluff your eye lashes. The mascara stays put in it's creamy lengthing fashion. Love it. I also have super sensitive eyes. Some mascaras can create red havoc with my eyes. Not so with Lancome's Hypnose. It is made with B vitamins and gentle waxes that work with my eyes. I have tried Hypnose Drama and regular Hypnose. If you do not like the S curved wand you might like regular Hypnose. Drama is going to be more dramatic. Enjoy!

Shampoo -Dove - Nutritive Therapy Nourishing Oil Care Shampoo
Boxerface 12/30/2012 6:47:00 PM
This was a surprise. I always wind up being conned into buying a pricey goldwell shampoos after I get my hair cut and colored. However, while shopping at Target, I needed shampoo for the guest bathroom. I thought I would just try it out. And wow, it really makes my hair feel soft. So, I kept it in my bathroom. Love it! Do you have dry brittle hair? You will love this stuff. It will make your hair super soft and shiny again. My hair tends toward the heavy thick side mostly straight with a slight wave to the ends. I color my hair. Foil highlights and full on color to cover the gray. Treatments at least every 6 weeks. I do not always use a hair dryer because of all the damage from color. I used to be on the oily side but age has made my hair more dry and course with the gray. And being winter time my hair is even more dry. I was skeptical of using any type of oil based shampoo on my hair. Oil would make me oily. Right? Not so. This stuff works and at an amazing price. There is a subtle elegant almond oil scent. I plan to try the nourishing leave in oil cream.

Lipstick -Christian Dior - Rouge Dior 999 Celebrity Red
Boxerface 12/29/2012 8:47:00 AM
Dior is the best if you want a rich red lipstick for yellow base skin tones. I am a nc20 or linen in ELDW. The formula is amazing! I honestly have never found a drug store dupe for Dior lipsticks. Something about the formula creates a bold color that lasts. EXPENSIVE but worth it. Dior Rouge is not super moisturzing. Okay this is winter and my lips are really dry but in the summer this would be super moist. The pigmentation is perfection. I choose ARA RED 999 (Maybe this is an updated version of ROUGHE DIOR 999 CELEBRITY RED) I love the ARA RED 999 and am reviewing this one. You do need a lipliner. I recommend one by Dior. It does not plump but I have yet to find a lipstick that really plumps the way they claim. I needed something that I could have in a pinch to dress up. This the kind of red you wear with a pale face, mascara only and no eye shadow. The Classic elegant French look. A white t-shirt, jeans and light make up. Gawd, I wish I were 25 again. Perfect for the young and naturally beautiful. I love this red lipstick. It lasts and makes my lips look Gorgoeus. Thank you Dior.

Eye Shadow -Urban Decay - Naked 2 Palette
Boxerface 12/29/2012 8:34:00 AM
A fantastic Eye Shadow pack that feels buttery soft to the eye lid. The pigmentation is natural or rather naked. Think soft browns, taupes, grays and medium browns. Natural! Goes on gently, no pulling or rough texture to the sensitive eye area. I do not like using an eye shadow primer. I have hooded lids with very little space. I need simple! Otherwise my eyes look like a drunken gypsy tarot card reader who needs a shower. I do not need a primer with these shades. I wanted something simple, good blendable colors that would not give a lady in her 40s an over done look. Creating classic, elegant eyes without looking over done. THIS IS IT!!! My HG everyday work eye shadow. These colors are great for the golden, brown, or hazel green eyes with fair skin. Gosh, they might be fine with other eye colors too but for my fair NC20-NC25 skin tone and my red brown hair this works nicely. The taupes are perfect. And Lord knows I can never find a good taupe in eye shadows. The colors in this palette are all gorgeous neutrals that blend into the colors of a natural (okay NAKED) look. It is like you are not wearing eye shadow.

BB Cream -Omorovicza - Complexion Perfector BB Cream SPF 20
Boxerface 12/29/2012 8:17:00 AM
Let me start by saying I did not buy this. It is far too pricey for me. $125. dollars. But I borrowed this from my sister. She said try it out for a few days over the holidays while I was with her. It is AWESOME!!! Too expensive for me but wow this really is a great product. She got this becuse it has no silicone. My sister now has great skin. Not always but now that she is using this her skin has improved dramatically. She is closer to 50 and I am in my mid 40s. This is not a heavy cream like other BBs I have tried this is very light. The coverage is not super like ELDW foundation but this is because it is not a foundation. A tiny dollop can cover your face. And it stays moist all day. BUT, it does not cover blemishes or acne scars or dots that you may have. I have mild roseaca and it did make me look less red and I think with long term use it would improve the texture of my skin. If you are oily? I am not sure if this is for you. I think this is better for dry skin ladies. I ave no idea how it would work for the super slick girl with acne. I am no longer an oily person. I have dry areas that just soaked up this cream. I recommend this for a dry skinned girl or normal combo lady. Did it last? Well, thats the thing. I do not think it lasts as well as some say. My skin felt great all day. Imagine a really great hand cream. You might need to reapply during the day. That is how I felt with this BB cream. A few places needed touch ups. Again I need to get into the mind set that this is NOT a foundation. I am learning more about BB creams. A foundation would be something you want to last all day. A BB cream is there to improve your skin. Once you get this concept, I guess you could say it lasts long. Keep in mind a little goes a long way. If you try to add more it is going to emphasize pores and lines. Dab and smooth over do not fill and cover. My complaint is that it does not come in various shades. For me I am pale so this was perfect but for darker skinned ladies this is a shame that it does not come darker. I have heard some use bronzers or powders to add some color. Will I buy this again? I did not buy this for myself but if I win the lottery I am buying this to wear daily.

Foundations -Clarins - extra firming foundation
Boxerface 12/16/2012 7:16:00 PM
This is a great foundation. Let me start with the PROs... - no breakouts on my sensitive skin - light enough shade (I used Bone ELDW, NC20 in Mac)I bought shade Cream 104 (I think 107 is a better match now weeks later) - pump dispenser is fantastic - you get more for your dollar. The price is $36 for 1.5 fl oz but for ELDW you pay $36 for only 1.0 fl oz. - gives a dewy glow kind of finish. Not matte and not flat. It covers nicely with a creamy finish that feels soft to the skin. -covers my mild roseaca well but did not cover acne at all. Any oily spots, I needed a concealor. CONs. -i do not like the heavy baby powdered scent. Think Love's Baby soft perfume from the early 80. The cloying scent can drive you to distraction. It does not fade, but you do start to ignore the scent as you go about your day. -I wish this would last as long as EL Doublewear. Be aware that ELDW gives off a matte finish which perhaps is why is lasts longer. Clarins gives off a dewy more natural glow kind of appearance. -Does not last very long. I can put this on my face at 6am and it is starting to fade by noon time. -I tried this for almost a month. I did not see it effecting my skin tone, texture, elasticity or wrinkles. NOthing. NAda, NOpe ... Did it firm? Not at all. Dry Sensitive Over 40? You might love this. Because it is not a matte finish it will not emphasize your wrinkles and blends nicely into your skin. Under 30 super oily acne prone???? You might find this makeup to rich, creamy and possibly breakout prone. MAC studio sculpt is so similar to Calrins Extra Firming. The only difference is the scent. And maybe ingredients. MAC SS has the same creamy feeling and gives off the same kind of dewy glow. MAC is cheaper but MAC has been known to break some people out. Both did not last more than a few hours. Will I buy this again? I am torn. Yes but this is not my HG. If it would last a bit longer than 4 hours I would definitely buy this again . For now I am still on my quest for foundation that feels likes this, smells nicer and lasts longer.

Mascara -L'Oreal - Voluminous Million Lashes
Boxerface 12/2/2012 12:56:00 PM
This is a great all around mascara that does not iritate my eyes. It separates and lengthens. The wand is designed to keep only a certain amount of mascara on each bristle making the application process perfect. The color I chose was black. I will buy this again. A great basic mascara that works for me. Pros Smudge proof Clump proof Ophthalmologist and allergy tested. Suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers. (love this) Cleans up easily ( no redness on eyes from rubbing ) Cons After two weeks it started to dry out and flake a bit (time for a replacement I guess)

Other -Unlisted Brand - Baking Soda
Boxerface 12/2/2012 12:46:00 PM
Make up alley taught me what a treasure trove baking soda can be. Sodium Bicarbonate, is safe and natural to use. Well that is if you are safe to have sodium. Check with your doctor if you have health issues. I love this as a faial scrub. I usually just mix it with a bit of water. If I have acne patches I actually mix it with my bp cream and gently massage the area that is breaking out. I recommend you be very gentle with your skin. It could be so easy to be rough with baking soda. If you feel tingling or burning you need to rinse this off as you might be hurting yourself. Pat dry softly. I have sensitive skin, mild rosecea and mild acne, so I do not use this daily or even weekly. Maybe two times a month. I find that after using this my skin is incredibly smooth. However I think this can be too drying for those with dry patches. One option for those who are dry is to try mixing it with Aloe Vera gel. It will still provide a scrub but be more gentle for the dry areas. Love this and recommend everyone have a supply on hand.

Lipstick -MAC - Vegas Volt
Boxerface 12/1/2012 8:18:00 AM
Vibrant Fun Color! It is an Orange Coral that looks super on everyone. I was afraid to get an organge lipstick, imagining the tacky orange look of the character Magda in the movie Something about Mary... this is so far from that look. If you are looking for a creamy intensely pigmented color that brightens your skin this is it. I bought this last spring and I still love it. Vegas Volt is one of those lipsticks that make the rest of your skin just gorgeous. You could wear just this lipstick and no other cosmetic and you would look perfect. It is a full coverage lipstick that pops with color. Every lady needs a coral lipstick in their collection that is a last minute go to. This is it. It is moisturising and stays put. I find some of the more moisturizing lipsticks don't last but this Mac one lasted 3-4 hours for me. The color is vibrant without being tacky. Get one for someone's holiday stocking or a surprise birthday gift. She will love it!!!!!!!!!! my skin is NC20, ELDW Bone/Linen. Clarins 104 my daughter who has this lipstick too has NW15, ELDW Bone, LORAC Porcelain 1, and Covergirl Ivory

Liquid -LORAC - Breakthrough Performance Oil Free Anti-aging with sms complex spf 14
Boxerface 11/30/2012 6:04:00 PM
A kind salesgirl at Sephora suggested we try LORAC Breakthrough Performance Oil Free Anti Aging foundation. My daughter was suffering with super dry sensitive skin from some medication she was on. The SA at Sephora suggested LORAC, 1 because it came in the lightest shade. She is porcelain white and needed makeup in that shade. And 2 it works great on dry skin. It does not make your skin more dry. In fact for anyone on the boards askinig for a foundation for dry skin, Hands down this is the best if you suffer with dry flaky itchy sensitive skin. It was wonderfful for her. If you are looking for a foundation that blends nicely and does not look like you are wearing make up.... this is it. It does not cover acne or scars super well. It tends to cover lightly. If you want a heavy coverage avoid this one. It is not for you. This is a light foundation with a powder soft finish. It goes on fairly smooth and takes a few minutes to really dry. Not fast drying like Revlons Colors Stay or fast like ELDW. Recently while doing my own new search for a new foundation, I tried this Lorac. The shade 1 porcelain is a little too light for me. I normally wear NC20, Bone in ELDW and 104 in Clarins. I need to pick up the next shade up maybe 2 or 3. Undertone yellow. Does it last? Not the way some cosmetics do, but it is great on skin. It make my skin feel healthy. I am in my 40s and I need all the moisture and gentleness I can find. This foundation is great if your skin is healthy on the dry side and needing that extra moisture. It is not for girls who are oily or combo skin. It is not going to last on people with lots of oil producing glands.. In fact I would say your foundation will just slide right off your face. One negative is that the shade options are very limited. If you are multi racial, latina or asian you might be frustrated with the 7 shade options. It is not cheap. I guess it is one of the more healthy foundation it is probably worth the $40 a bottle. The pump dispenser is perfect. I plan to get this in the darker shade. Is it my HG? No still searching for the elusive HG.

Fragrances -Christian Dior - Miss Dior Cherie
Boxerface 11/29/2012 6:07:00 PM
"Miss Dior Cherie" perfume has been renamed just "Miss Dior". I love the first name better but at least DIOR kept the beautiful scent. The first scent that comes to my mind when I smell Miss Dior (Cherie) is apricots. Wait... let me think again maybe strawberries and apricots. But there are no apricots or strawberries that I know of in this. I think it is actually mandarin oranges. Delicate tiny mandarin oranges that are the base for this sensual blend of Egyptian jasmine, maybe Neroli (not sure) and patchouli. Patchouli used to be popular in the 60s. Trust me this is not a 60s scent. This perfume has a nice balance of modern and fruity. I want this for Christmas but it really is a spring scent. Although I mentioned fruitiness it really is not overpowering. This is not a sexy provocative scent more of a flirty delicate intimate elegant scent with a hint fun. Perfume that makes you feel happy and gives off positive energy. It makes me think of beauty and youth. Does it last? No. I found it last about an hour or two. However, this is without layering the scent the way most recommend. If you can carry a small bottle with you in your purse you can always freshen up. But prior to this your scent needs to start in the shower with a gel or soap. Then layer with Dior Miss Cherie moisturizer and of course sprinkle a bit in the air walk through the spritz and viola you're scented. All this might help to retain the scent.

Loose Powders -Dermablend - Setting Powder (loose & pressed)
Boxerface 11/28/2012 8:01:00 PM
I bought this product for my daughter. My daugher had this horrific case of eczema and general rashes. She was in middle school and suffered from the raw red look on her inner arms. After getting the right medication she still had some mild flare ups and some skin that was discolored. Because she is a cheerleader she was embarrassed to go out in public during a game without some kind of body makeup. The dermablend sales women at Macy's in Boston were amazing. They helped my daughter get her confidence back. She no longer needs to use dermablend to cover these areas. She no longer has this awful rash or scarred tissue. Her skin is back to normal and she is doing fantastic. But this stuff is amazing. Honestly I am beyond thankful that there is a company that makes products for people with scars, rashes, blemishes, birthmarks... God Bless Dermablend. So,now you know the history let me tell you a little about this powder. I do not know what is in it but it lasts. I have tried this powder on top of all my foundations on days that oily ones and this powder really sets the foundation. It is really meant for the dermablend products but it works for me. I do not use this every day. In fact more like once a month on those pms times of slick skin. At first when the sales lady added this to our pile of dermablend products I thought, oh this is just some overpriced powder. No, seriously it is pretty good stuff. Powder does not work the same. I am not sure what is in it, but it works. It truly sets and helps the foundation to last. I have in in the lightest skin tone color, clear and white. All works wonders. If you have truly oily skin but you love the way your foundation works. I recommend you try this dermablend powder on top of your foundation. Go on line, u-tube or visit Dermablend to understand how to use it. It can really help your foundation last 12 hours. Why did I give it 4? Becareful that it does not break you out. Be sure to really remove the powder. I also do not know the ingredients and wonder what else is in it.

BB Cream -L'Oreal - Youth Code BB Cream Illuminator
Boxerface 11/28/2012 7:48:00 PM
Let me first start this review by saying I am not sure why people use BB creams. I am not sure what they are for? I thought they were in place of a foundation. I assumed (wrongly) I guess that all foundations should be kind, gentle and healthy for our skin. I realize this is wishful thinking on my part. I am still confused about BB creams. Are they for those wanting a foundation with coverage or are they more like Neosporin. A cure all for acne, dry skin and bumps? My skin is getting drier. I am at my Mid-40s and the elasticity and resilience I once had is gone with the youth of 28. I needed something that is not going to emphasize wrinkles but rather care for them. I thought this Youth Code BB was going to be the answer. Something to nurish, even my skin tone and make my skin feel beautiful. I am not asking for a miracle. I just want moisture added to my face since I am battling drier skin. This is not it. But, wait! This might be fine for the girl under 35 but not for those who are looking to battle aging with everything we can find. I find the texture to be heavy and I almost fear it would break me out. I did not use this for very long. Less than one week. It goes on nicely has a scent (all L'Oreal products seem too) but does not last the way a foundation might. That again is my second problem with BB creams . Why bother? I want a foundation that is going to last through board meetings and power lunches not disappear before I have my first cup of coffee. Youth code BB did not last for me. My personal opinion it is too expensive for what you are getting. $18 for a glorified hand cream. Don't waste your money.

Bronzers -Estee Lauder - bronzer-goddess
Boxerface 11/28/2012 7:31:00 PM
I have been using Bronze Goddess by EL for 10 years... Maybe longer. I have used the loose and the pressed. I stick with the pressed to use as an option for blush on my face during winter months. My skin is fair but warm based so this blends wonderfully with my skin tone. During the summer the loose powder is fantastic on my arms and upper chest area when I don't want to get a tan the natural way. I like the gentle glow and it stays on me not on my clothes. Well... lets just say I do not put this on while wearing a white top. EL is pricey that would be my only con everything is great in this bronzer. Pros Works great with my now dry skin (i used to have oily combo skin and this worked fine then too) does not change color. Some bronzers turn yellow orange when they mixes with the oils in your skin. This does not. Stays true to color. Colors lasts (I would say it is almost an extended wear of color)
