Moisturizers -Cetaphil - Moisturizing Lotion
Safin 7/19/2009 2:58:00 PM
This is again a hyped product from Cetaphil and highly over rated. It is defined as non-comedogenic, non-greasy, mild and non-irritating. I have oily sensitive skin and this lotion made my face very oily and it burned on my skin. I think because of the macademia oil and the (benzyl) alcohol. Maybe okay when your skin is dry and not sensitive.

Cleansers -Cetaphil - Gentle Skin Cleanser
Safin 7/19/2009 2:49:00 PM
I really don't onderstand the fuss about this cleanser, there are so many better gentle cleansers out there (Body Shop Aloe, Toleriane, Avene). This cleanser is gentle, but cleanses very badly. When you try to remove your mascara with it, the mascara mixes with the cleanser and than sticks to your face, the same counts for sunscreen. So maybe okay for cleansing in the morning, but some water does the same job.

CD/Books/Movies -Paula's Choice - Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me 6th Edition

As a cosmetics junky I enjoyed this book very much, the problem with the reviews is that they become out dated very quick. And I don't agree with Paula on everything she writes.

CD/Books/Movies -Paula's Choice - Beauty Bible 2nd edition
Safin 7/19/2009 2:34:00 PM
I think that everybody that is on Make Up Alley, is a kind of cosmetics junky. There are not a lot of books for cosmetics junkies, so this one is a good option. There is a chapter for every imaginary skinproblem. What I don't like is that Paula sticks to her opinion about some issues (I do not agree with her about them), she writes: - Everybody has to and can use BHA - All products have to be loaded with antioxidants - You have to wear sunscreen all year round - All natural is not a good option - SLS and SLES are not bad for skin - Mineral Oil is not bad for skin - Functional cleansers (example with BHA) are a waste - Silicones are good for hair and skin

Gels/Soaps -Avalon Organics Botanicals - Lavender Bath and Shower Gel
Safin 7/19/2009 1:49:00 PM
A lovely body wash that doesn't irritate my sensitive skin. The smell is very nice. I tried it on my face also, but that was not a smart experiment (too drying).

Skincare - Body -Avalon Organics Botanicals - Lavender Hand & body Lotion
Safin 7/19/2009 1:43:00 PM
I like the smell of the Lavender Conditioner and Body Wash of Avalon, but the Bodylotion smells too chemical. It does a good job, but for a handcream it is too light (when your hands need a repair). It comes in a pump bottle, which is a good thing.

Conditioner -Avalon Organics Botanicals - Rosemary Conditioner
Safin 7/19/2009 1:39:00 PM
I bought this conditioner because it gets a reasonable rating on the cosmeticsdatabase (a 3). I would prefer a complete fragrance free one, but a good one is hard to find. The Rosemary is the volume version, and it gives a little bit volume. I like the smell of the Lavender more. I have fine hair that is shoulder length, I wash my hair every other day. This conditioner does not make my hair limp, oily or dry. But it does not give much of shine. So all together not a bad one, but not very good either.

Moisturizers -The Body Shop - Aloe Vera Moisturizing Day Cream
Safin 7/19/2009 1:25:00 PM
This moisturizer is a little lighter than the night moisturizer, but still too heavy for oily skin. I like the Aloe Vera line from the Body Shop, because the ingredientslist is very safe, but I miss a light moisturizer for oily skin. And the creams are better off in a tube instead of a jar.

Moisturizers -The Body Shop - Aloe Vera soothing rich night cream

This can be a very good moisturizer for someone with dry skin, for me it was way too heavy. I have oily skin. The ingredients are very safe. Would have been better in a tube instead of a jar.

Skincare - Face -The Body Shop - Aloe Vera Facial Wash
Safin 7/19/2009 1:11:00 PM
I have mixed feelings about the foaming cleanser from the Body Shop line. I am normally using the cream version, but in summer my face is more oily and I am using mineral sunscreen now and than, so I wanted to try the foaming one. First of all, the bottle will not last a long time, I think about a month. The foam does not dry out my skin, but there is SLES in it and I have the feeling that this is irritating my eyes. To remove sunscreen you have to use a lot of the product. I will stick to the cream version.

Moisturizers -Avene - skin recovery cream (US name: cream for intolerant skin)
Safin 7/19/2009 12:58:00 PM
I have used this cream for a very long time (2 years) and it didn't irriate my rosacea acne prone skin. But the P&P kept comming and my seb derm flared up now and than. Than I found out that this was because of the mineral oil in the Recovery Cream. So maybe I will use it again when I am older and my face is less oily.

Sunscreen -Avene - extreme sunblock cream spf 50
Safin 7/19/2009 12:46:00 PM
This is a review of the Avene Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50. I have used this sunscreen last year on my holiday to Kos. It didn't blend in at all! They called me the ghost. I didn't burn that is the only pro...

Moisturizers -La Roche Posay - Toleriane Soothing Protective Facial Cream
Safin 7/19/2009 12:40:00 PM
I am not very lucky with the Toleriane products. Where I live (in Holland) they don't sell the Toleriane Fluide, the cream was way too heavy for my oily sensitive skin.

Conditioner -Paula's Choice - Smooth Finish Conditioner
Safin 7/19/2009 12:31:00 PM
I like the fact that you can buy samples at the Paula's Choice site. So you can test if your skin can tolerate the product. I bought a sample because this conditioner is fragrance free, the sample gave good results so I bought the bottle. But after a few weeks my hair became more and more limp and frizzy (too many silicones?). So I will not buy again.
