Treatments -Phyto - Phytonectar

I will never live without this product. After coloring my hair for a year and half, I woke up one day to find it very dry and dull. After extensive research, I decided to shell out the cash for the nectar and the accompanying shampoo. I was not disappointed. I apply this nectar on my hair and scalp before I go to bed and then wash it out with the Phytonectar shampoo in the morning and surprise - beautiful soft hair. I've also used it for just a few hours, rather than the overnight, but I find it works best the longer it's applied. This product is also great to add a drop or two to dry hair after I've straightened it or on days when I let it air dry (long naturally curly/wavy porous hair), I'll add some to my dry hair to smooth the frizzies. Immediate shine unlike anything else I've used. It's my favorite hair care product - ever, period. UPDATE: I spoke to a PHYTO rep and she cautioned using this product too long or too often. If your hair isn't really dry, then it could actually cause dryness b/c it has so much protein. So use cautiously. Once your hair starts making a come back, it's probably wise to put this on the shelf and change to a different formula - like the H'uile de Ales.

Shampoo -Phyto - Phytonectar Shampoo

After coloring my hair at home for about a year and a half to cover my growing population of gray, I woke up one day to find my usually soft hair had turned dull and dry. After numerous weekly, sometimes, twice a week, treatments of Frederick Fekkai's shea butter hair mask, ceasing of blow drying altogether and using Sebastian's Potion 9 daily, and still finding very little relief, I set out to find some help. I read about how Phytonectar makes a big difference in a short amount of time and ordered some. Boy, it's true. Coupled with the nectar oil that you use a pretreatment (or even a little bit after a blow out), my hair has made a huge turnaround. It didn't weigh down my naturally curly hair, but just added a ton of softness and shine. It's not completely back to its original condition, but it gets better every time I use these products. I'm a believer and you bet your sweet bippy my next purchase will be the Phytobrush shampoo for days when I don't use the Phytonectar. This line seems to really do what it says. It's expensive, but worth it. The smell is awesome (oranges) and while the bottles are small, you don't need as much as you'd think. It's wonderful stuff! UPDATE: I spoke to a PHYTO rep and she cautioned using this product too long or too often. If your hair isn't really dry, then it could actually cause dryness b/c it has so much protein. So use cautiously. Once your hair starts making a come back, it's probably wise to put this on the shelf and change to a different formula.

Lip Gloss -MAC - Moonstone

This is a great color for layering over a base color. It's a bit too light for my fair complexion, but I always have it with me to gloss up my base lipsticks, such as Twig. It's a nice shade of pink with the perfect amount of shimmer. MAC Lipglasses are my favorite lip glosses b/c they are not too sticky, perfectly glossy, and they smell wonderful. Beware though, they often have limited editions and you'll fall in love with a shade only to find it's not available when you go back to refill. Always ask!

Mascara -Boots - Ultimate curl
jjtexasgirl 9/7/2007 3:08:00 PM
I set out to buy the mascara for length, but they were all out of black so I thought I'd try this. My lashes are naturally long, dark, but thin. This stuff does a good job of emphasizing my lashes, with very minimum clumping, if at all and it does a great job of not smudging. Even one coat seems adequate, when I'm used to applying two or more with other mascaras. However, it doesn't curl anymore or less than other mascaras. Kind of false advertising if you ask me, but it's a decent general mascara for every day use.

Mascara -L'Oreal - FeatherLash [DISCONTINUED]
jjtexasgirl 9/7/2007 3:05:00 PM
I've used this mascara religiously for about 7 years or so. I have naturally long, dark, but thin lashes and I really like the no-clump, but full and feathery look. This stuff fits the bill better than most expensive mascaras. HOWEVER, WHEN ITS A BRAND NEW TUBE, ITS TOO RUNNY. You can't tell you've put it on. It's too runny. I recommend when the tube is new, to blow on the wand a little bit before applying. This works great for me. My favorite time for this mascara is when it's a few weeks old. Then, no matter how many layers I apply for natural look or a bolder look, it won't clump. My lashes are so long, though, that I have to be careful not to get it on my eyelids. It's fluid enough, it will easily make a mess on my eyelids. Just takes a little getting used to, but it's still one of my favorites and I always get compliments on my eyelashes when I use this mascara.

Threw this away after about 5 days of use. I'm a pretty expert mascara put-er-on-er, but this stuff did nothing but clump. I have long, dark but thin lashes, but always love to add some extra ooph. This stuff did nothing but make a mess!

Loose Powders -Bare Escentuals - Mineral Veil
jjtexasgirl 9/7/2007 2:56:00 PM
I used to use Bare Escentuals mineral foundations, until I relocated to another area of the country and I suddenly realized it didn't work for me anymore. However, the Mineral Veil is still a favorite of mine. It's some of the finest milled I've ever used and even used on bare, moisturized skin, it's wonderful without leaving a super powdery look like some powders can. Even though I've moved on from Bare Escentuals, I still love the Mineral Veil and have converted some friends, too. Beware, however, I hear they have a new version out called Feather Light or something and it has sparkles in it. Just be aware when you're purchasing. The original Mineral Veil has no sparkles in it at all.

Lipstick -MAC - Satin Lipstick in Twig
jjtexasgirl 9/7/2007 2:49:00 PM
As anyone who knows me is painfully aware, I'm a lipstick nut. I NEVER go without lipstick. I bought this originally a number of years ago after reading in a magazine article that it's a great shade for just about anyone. Fail-safe. This is the only lipstick that I buy over and over again. It's similar to the shade of my natural lipcolor, only better. I'm fair with a slight yellow tone, freckled, brunette with brown eyes. This is my favorite everyday lipstick. I can gloss it up with lipglass or wear it plain for a more matte look. Smells good, too. Excellent product!
