Blush -NARS - Sin

I have medium brown hair and dark brown eyes. My skin is somewhat oily. I had been using the same 2 Estee Lauder blushes for years as they seemed to be the only colors that showed up and lasted on me. But I was needing a change and I made my first trip to a Sephora store. The sales assistant there went straight for this color on, good pigmentation, and even though it is shimmery, it is not overpowering. This is my holy grail blush. Whether I am being creative or in a rush, it works well with most of what I wear. And a little goes a long way, it will be years before I can use it up, but I don't think I'll ever be bored.

Palettes -Stila - Bouquet du Jour Look Book – Jade Blossom
crzyqlt 9/20/2003 3:47:00 PM
I have brown hair and brown eyes and realized that I had gotten into an eye shadow rut. Neutrals and purple/plums were all I was wearing and I wanted more variety. At the recommendation of MUAers on the boards, I ordered the Jade Blossom bouquet. This was great for me, precoordinated eye shadow colors, and 3 of them green, all at one price. The shades seem to be a great mix of cool and warm tones. Very wearable. And the gold highlighter is subtle enough even for daytime. I was most surprised to find that I could even wear the blush shades, they didn't turn orange on me at all. I had given up wearing warmer blushes for that reason. And the 2 work great as a blush and contour as well.

Palettes -Stila - Bouquet du Jour Look Book - Crème Bouquet

I am new to Stila, and this was one of my first purchases. I love getting color coordinated palettes, it just takes the guess work out of matching eye shadows and blushes. The shades of purples and pinks in this palette are wonderful. And because of this palette I have found that Stila blushes are wonderful. They seem to be the right amount of pigment and never change color on me. Get this one while you can.

Makeup Brushes -Sonia Kashuk - Contour Brush (14)
crzyqlt 9/20/2003 3:39:00 PM
If you have ever gotten any of the Stila look books, with 2 small blushes and 4 eye shadows, this brush is great. I got the Jade Bouquet book, and thought the 2 blush shades would work well as a blush and contour. The shape and size of this contour brush fit nicely into the smaller sized pans and the result was just what I wanted. For the price, this brush is a must have.

Makeup Brushes -Sonia Kashuk - Cosmetic Brushes Set (5-pc.)
crzyqlt 9/20/2003 3:31:00 PM
I bought this thinking I would give it as a present to my teen daughter. Instead I kept the first set. The brow brush is great, but the best part is the small blush brush. It is the perfect size to use in the Stila look books, the ones with the smaller than usual blush and eye shadows. It perfectly fits in the blush and picks up enough color to blend onto my cheeks. Larger blush brushes would swirl into the other shades and pick up some of those colors. This works great. The larger of the 2 eye shadow brushes I use, the smaller one I passed on. Would make a great stocking stuffer.

I love this brush, I don't use it as an eye shadow brush as much as I use it with MAC's Brown Down veluxe eye shadow to fill in my eyebrows, for that, its terrific.

Pressed Powders -New York Color - Pressed Face Powder
crzyqlt 9/20/2003 3:23:00 PM
I bought this after reading a few reviews of and found it be ok. But I would have to reapply it a few times on my fairly oily skin. And the color of it would lighten my foundation color. I prefer MAC blot powder, I usually only need to reapply it once, and the color works better for me.

Crème -Cover Girl - AquaSmooth SPF15 Make-up
crzyqlt 9/20/2003 3:02:00 PM
When I first started looking for a new foundation, I tried this based on a review in a cosmetic book. It applies nicely, but only lasted half a day on my oily skin. But it didn't overly emphasize my fine lines. The big drawback is that the color was not a great match. At least Cover Girl is wise enough to provide foundation sample packets to try 3 different shades. I just didn't find a close enough match.

Eye Shadow -Urban Decay - Acid Rain Eyeshadow
crzyqlt 9/20/2003 2:56:00 PM
I love the shimmery shadows from Urban Decay. They are soft as silk, blend well, last well. I have to hide them from my teenage daughters. I got this in a face case, and it is one of the shadows I will have to buy full sized, since between my daughters and I, this will be used up quickly.

Concealers -Estee Lauder - Double Wear Stay-in-Place Concealer
crzyqlt 9/20/2003 2:51:00 PM
I am in the search for a holy grail under eye concealer. I have hereditary dark eye circles and need something that will neutralize them. This product does do that fairly effectively. But I also have the start of fine lines and unfortunately, this does emphasize them. I am putting yes on repurchasing this, but that's if I don't find something better.

Concealers -Revlon - Skinlights Illusion Wand [DISCONTINUED]
crzyqlt 9/20/2003 2:48:00 PM
Since this is supposed to be an illuminator as wellas a concealer, I decided to try it, as I have very dark eye circles. It did do a good job of covering my under eye circles, and even reflected light from them so it brightened my eye area up as well. However it did settle into my fine lines. But so far everything I have tried does that, so I am beginning to think that's just the way life is going to be. I would buy this again.

Highlighters -Revlon - Skinlights Illusion wand in Luminous Touch
crzyqlt 9/20/2003 2:41:00 PM
I have hereditary dark eye circles, and wear glasses, so sometimes it just looks like I have black eyes. So I wanted something I could use in the corner of my eyes, and along the upper sides of my nose to reflect light and pop my eyes more. This pale pinkish cream does the job, and at a reasonable price. I blend it in over my foundation and it really helps lighten those dark areas so I don't look like I've been staying up all night. A definite rebuy for me.

Powder -MAC - Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation
crzyqlt 9/20/2003 2:36:00 PM
for years I used Garden Botanika's powder plus foundation and loved it. Then they went to being a web based business only, changed their color names, and lost my business. This past summer I decided to try looking for a new powder foundation. I got a great color match with MAC. And it gave a light coverage. But I don't think I can use powder foundation anymore. I have fairly oily skin, worse in warm or humid weather. But as I approach 40, I am also getting fine lines. And I just found that under those circumstances, Studio Fix would get cakey looking on me after a few hours. However, this was good for the week I stayed in the hospital while my 7 yr old recovered from an emergency appendectomy. I could wash my face, zip this on, and at least feel my unmade up face was covered and not looking as bad as not sleeping through nights was making it. So I hang onto it for those days when a quick make up is what I need before I have to run out of the house for errands that only require evening out my skin tone.

Pressed Powders -MAC - Blot Powder
crzyqlt 9/20/2003 2:27:00 PM
I tried the NYC powder first, but in the summer it was too light for my skin, so I bought the MAC blot powder in medium. I like this much better. I set my Paula Dorf oil free foundation with this in the morning, and all I need is some blot papers later in the day, and I don't look like an oil slick. It also doesn't get cakey looking if reapply it on more humid days when I oil through more. Its a winner for me.

Mascara -Prescriptives - False Eyelashes Plush Mascara
crzyqlt 9/20/2003 2:24:00 PM
This was my first purchase of a department store mascara. It will also be my last, I think. This simply was not better than Maybelline's Full n Soft or L'Oreal's Lash Out mascaras. And I found that I had to always wipe excess mascara off of the brush, or I'd get clumpy lashes. Why spend $17 when a $7 product works as well, if not better?
