Shampoo -John Frieda - Sheer Blonde Highlighting Shampoo

This definitely does make the hair blonder, and the tone of the blondeness quite nice, and not brassy or yellow. I notice the quality of my hair's colour improves significantly when I use this. It's comparable to clairol shimmer lights without the grandma smell, and in a much more attractive bottle. My hair texture has not improved nor gotten worse with this. The effect on the colour though definitely makes this a re-buy product.

Lip Liners -Rimmel - Exaggerate-063 Eastend Snob

I need to preface this by saying that I use lipliner for a plump effect just with lip gloss rather than matching it to lipsticks. For this purpose, the colour is excellent. I've used several lipliners that were reviewed as 'natural' colours, and none I would rebuy except this one. The others were overly brown or red, and this one is more on a pink side. I just use it on my cupids bow and below the center of my lower lip as I find it to be most natural looking in these places. I then usually put on some vaseline and touch it up a little. My lips look fuller and have a beautiful shape when I do this, all very naturally. UPDATE: I stopped purchasing this because it just does not last long enough.

Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Reversa UV Anti-Spot Lightening Cream
rated 4 of 5

This comes as a day cream or a night cream. I bought both as I was having major skin issues (poor tone, acne, and acne scars) that I was hoping this would help with. The night cream: really good. I notice my skin's texture and tone is great when I'm using this regularly. It is the perfect amount of moisture and doesn't break me out. I'd give this 5 lippies. Day cream: not such a fan. It is just too thick and I think it broke me out. Maybe the sunscreen it contains was the problem. I'd give it 2 lippies. So, I'd recommend the night cream!

Skincare - Body -The Body Shop - Exfoliating Gloves
rated 5 of 5

Body: I get major compliments on my skin's softness when I use these once a week (how often I usually use them-the rest of the time in the shower I just use a loofah) Face: I use these on my face too instead of a scrub, every other day. You have to be careful you use them fairly gently on the face as it might be a bit harsh for some people. I switched to these instead of a face scrub, and now, seriously, the skin on my face looks like plastic. Not in a bad way at all, but matte with a sheen. and my makeup goes on really smoothly. I recommend those who don't have sensitive skin try these on their face, and follow with a good moisturizer. UPDATE: I switched from this to a Salux washcloth. Check out the reviews.

Pressed Powders -Maybelline - Dream Matte Pressed Powder
rated 4 of 5
allymack 6/12/2009 11:12:00 PM

I bought this because I wanted an inexpensive powder to keep in my purse for touch ups as I can get quite shiny. This is natural-looking and has convenient, relatively attractive packaging. It serves my purposes. I'd buy it again.

Deodorants -Tom's of Maine - Natural Deodorant
rated 3 of 5

I have this in honeysuckle rose. It works relatively well. It does work less at the end of a day, but it hasn't been a problem, i.e. no b.o. It definitely works way better than kiss my face. I think I'll try a few other natural deodorants to see if I can find one with better staying power, but I'd buy this again. fyi I buy natural deodorants cause I can't stand the yellow stains ones with aluminum leave on my clothes. yech. EDIT: doesn't work after all.

Treatments -Desert Essence - Tea Tree Oil (100% Pure Australian)
rated 2 of 5
allymack 6/12/2009 11:04:00 PM

This is helping big time with my skin. I must say first of all my skin is apparently not sensitive in the least, as I've been putting this straight on my problem areas as a spot treatment topped with 5% bp, and I have had zero skin dryness or irritation. I've also added it to my bioderma sebio cleanser. My blackheads (among other types of blemishes, but those have been the hardest to get rid of) have noticeably diminished. I love the smell, too. EDIT: there is some evidence that tea tree oil is an endocrine disruptor. Unfortunate given its effectiveness, but I've stopped purchasing.

Eyeliner -L'Oreal - Line Intensifique in Earthen Rock
rated 5 of 5
allymack 6/12/2009 10:52:00 PM

I bought this product after being on hiatus from liquid liners for a few years, trying out different pencils. I used to use black mica of this product back when I used liquid, but this time I wanted a less harsh colour to wear everday. I am SO happy I bought this product again. The staying power is amazing, and it is insanely easy to apply (and I have the shakiest hands). Literally at the end of the day it has barely budged. Pencil eyeliners for me always need to be reapplied, and/or smear all around my eyes. As for this colour: It is less harsh than black, but it doesn't look brown per se. It just looks more natural.

Pressed Powders -MAC - Mineralize Skinfinish Natural - Medium
rated 3 of 5

This...just didn't blow my mind. For the price and reviews I was expecting something far, far better. The staying power and coverage was unimpressive, and it looked chalky on. nothing particularly special.

Eyeliner -L'Oreal - Line Intensifique in Black Mica
rated 5 of 5
allymack 5/29/2009 10:39:00 PM

Love this liquid liner. I recently tried the maybelline waterproof, but it didn't have anything on this one. The thin tip is key, especially with shaky hands like mine. The staying power is excellent. You can do it subtle or dramatic. The packaging is attractive. Just the best.

Shampoo -Burt's Bees - Burts Bees Baby Bee No Tear Shampoo and Wash
rated 3 of 5
allymack 5/29/2009 10:28:00 PM

I bought this because I wanted to switch to sulfate free shampoo, so this is my first one of that type. First of all, I love the smell and the packaging is adorable. The problems are twofold: 1. I don't know if this is a problem with sulfate-free 'poos in general, but it really doesn't lather well, so I have to use a lot to work it through all my hair and even then my roots felt oily, so I clearly hadn't washed all my hair properly 2. It's really pretty expensive for the amount that you get, especially considering how little it lathered, so the bottle doesn't last long. I think I will be trying another sulfate-free shampoo next time and see how that fares.

Masks -Queen Helene - Mint Julep Masque
rated 5 of 5
allymack 5/29/2009 10:22:00 PM

I've only owned this for a week, but my skin already seems to be improving. I had perfect skin in high school, but for some reason in my second year of college I started getting acne, and while I used benzoyl peroxide for my occasional breakouts in high school, it just hasn't been working as well. Anyways, I picked this up. I exfoliated my face in the shower, when I got out I put this on for 15 minutes, then when I washed it off it had raised a couple blackheads to the surface so I did some extractions (sorry for the yucky details) then I put on a thin layer of bp and then a thin layer of sudocreme, then went to bed. My blackheads are WAY less noticeable, and fewer in number, and my skin seems to be less oily during the day. The overall texture is just much better and less bumpy. I am going to try this routine every other day before bed. Hopefully the results will be cumulative.. UPDATE: this product gets great results when used regularly. It has parabens, and I'm making an effort to cut those out, but I'm torn on this because I have yet to find a clay mask without parabens that works this well.

Eyeliner -Maybelline - Lineworks Waterproof Liquid EyeLiner in Black
rated 3 of 5
allymack 5/29/2009 10:14:00 PM

The formulation did not seem too bad to me, nothing extraordinary but stayed on relatively well. The real problem was the brush, because of the way it is thick in the middle and then tapers again at the tip. I have used L'oreal's lineur intense/line intensifique for years and its thin tip works perfectly, but alas, with the maybelline's shape I was incapable of making a straight or shapely line. I'm sticking to my L'oreal.

Other -Unlisted Brand - Marvis Toothpaste Ginger Mint
rated 3 of 5
allymack 5/25/2009 11:40:00 PM

I bought this toothpaste because I liked the packaging, and hoped it would be a nice spicy ginger flavour. The packaging is truly gorgeous. The flavour, however, was really disappointing. It's not that I expected it to be that close to an actual ginger taste, but I literally cannot taste any ginger in this, just a mild minty flavour. Aside from the packaging it's just a typical toothpaste, because of the price I wouldn't buy again.
