Lipstick -Tarte - 24.7 Lip Sheer in Friday
rated 3 of 5
alissss 3/23/2008 11:47:00 AM

I like the lip sheers idea. For me the point is to be able to apply some color to my lips very quickly, without spending much time. This particular color is not great for that purpose because it's not very sheer and you do want to look in a mirror and make sure you don't end up with clown lips. I have used better sheer reds and berries for this purpose (e.g. Clinique almost lipstick) It is a bit drying for me, especially in winter. I gave it 4 stars however instead of 3 because these are so practical. I can keep this in my pocket as the only "touchup" item and make myself look presentable. The reason for this is, it can double as a cheek tint very easily. For this reason, i will probably buy these lip sheers again when I run out. EDITING: After using these for a while, I must say, they really are drying. Taking off a lippe...

Fragrances -Comme des Garcons - Red Series- Rose
rated 4 of 5
alissss 3/23/2008 11:42:00 AM

I am on a CdG testing phase (again). Rose was a pleasant surprise. As mentioned, it's not a sweet, oily rose but more like the smell of the whole plant - I definitely get the smell of the stems in this and I think this is a good thing. I'll wear this a few more times and might decide to invest in the bottle.

Fragrances -Comme des Garcons - Red Series- Sequoia
rated 4 of 5
alissss 3/23/2008 11:39:00 AM

There are few things as irresistable to me as the combination of 'sequoia' and 'comme des garcons'. I tried this several times at stores, each time thinking surely I should fall in love with this -- as the few days i spent hiking at Seqoia/kings canyon national park were one of the most unforgettable of my olfactory experiences in life! I like this, don't get me wrong. But to me, it does not take me to those wooded mountains. And that's what I wanted this fragrance to do... (Kyoto on the other hand, is a trip back to Japan in a bottle!) Editing to add: I've tried it a few more times and I like it more and more. I should add that this also stays on forever (at least on me).

Fragrances -Comme des Garcons - Incense Series Kyoto
rated 5 of 5
alissss 3/23/2008 11:36:00 AM

As a huge CdG fan, I am trying to find a perfume that works for me and Kyoto might be one. I love Japan and Kyoto. This is amazing in recreating the feel of a Japanese temple. I like it a lot more than Avignon, which stays the same church incense smell on me throughout. Whereas Kyoto starts with a freshly burning incense and then turns richer and somehow smells like the inside of a Japanese temple rather than just the incnese... I can smell the space, if you know what i mean... this might be a full bottle if I remain in love when my sample runs out...

Fragrances -Comme des Garcons - Incense Series Avignon
rated 4 of 5
alissss 3/23/2008 11:32:00 AM

How I wanted to love this!! I am huge CdG fan but their name and number perfumes don't work well for me. I like the series (red, incense) more. so i got some samples recently to try them more comfortably. I thought I would love Avignon based on reviews and the fact that Morrisey wears it... I am in awe of this scent and so is my husband. I can't believe the cathedral smell can come in a bottle. 4 lippies for that originality and vision... But I simply don't want to smell like this - I'm sure it's good for some people and it's an amazing fragrance. But not for me... (Kyoto on the other hand, yes!)

Moisturizers -Clinique - Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion
rated 1 of 5
alissss 3/13/2008 10:49:00 AM

I used to buy cliniqie skin products because I love their packaging, sleek and minimal... But even when I used Clinique, I was truly appalled at this 'moisturiser'. I have dry skin but I don't think this would even work if you did not need much moisture. Plus feels icky and like a thin sheet over your skin, pulling it somewhat. NO!

Treatments -Boots - no7 Protect and Perfect beauty serum

I have NO IDEA what this is supposed to do. What was the hype about? This did absolutely nothing for me. And I used it for weeks! I would think I did not even apply this at all except it annoys me after applicaiton. It absorbs quickly and then feels like there is an invisible sheet over your skin. But not one that does something like nourish and give you great skin in the morning. You put it on, then you know you put it on because your skin feels covered and 'pulled' somehwat.. and nothing happens. Doesn't matter if you repeat it for weeks. Not all 'hype' products are disappointing. This one just makes me baffled. What's it supposed to DO?

Treatments -Elizabeth Arden - Eight Hour Cream
rated 5 of 5

I must have this with me, especially if I am traveling and will be all dried out. Nothing and I mean nothing, has ever made such an improvement on my dry hands and cuticles. I also use it on dry parts of my face. The scent needs getting used to. I always buy it at Duty Free when I travel for about $14 and I think it more than pays for itself because nothing else works as well for my dry skin problems. (It heals hard, chapped, drying cuticles overnight!)

Lotions/ Creams -Elizabeth Arden - Eight Hour Cream Intensive Moisturizing Hand Treatment
rated 3 of 5
alissss 3/13/2008 9:47:00 AM

I bought this after being impressed by the regular version. It's OK but not nearly nourishing/moisturising enough for my needs... I buy them all at Duty Free which brings the costs down a little. I'll stick with the original next time...

Moisturizers -Shiseido - The Skincare Day Essential Moisturizer Light
rated 4 of 5
alissss 10/18/2006 5:18:00 AM

i am happy with this as a day moisturiser. spf creams usually are so heavy and even though my skin is so dry i need to deal with that with a good thick cream at night otherwise with spf i found i feel sticky all day. this one is the lightest moisturiser with spf i have tried. spf 10 is great for me as i live in london. i am not sure, most studies say no difference beyond 15 anyway just psychological. i got this at duty free at a great price and i love the packaging. will buy again as day moisturiser.

rated 4 of 5
alissss 12/25/2005 1:14:00 PM

i had the white Tubereuse candle. i lliked the scent on this one very much but it did not burn clean. i bought at the same time a Baies and that one burns clean and has amazing throw. best candle i've tried. so i am not giving up on diptyque at all. i might try this one again. maybe it was that one candle.

Blush -Tarte - Cheek Stain in Tipsy
rated 5 of 5
alissss 12/19/2005 2:31:00 AM

peaches and cream is a good description. i am light-skinned but not super-pale yet i didn't have a problem with this color showing on my skin. it is not a very obvious color, looks very natural. i wear this when i want to look like i don't have blush on at all. it is also great if i am wearing red lipstick and don't want other makeup to be heavy.
