Treatments -Revlon - Post Trauma Nail Treatment
rated 4 of 5
Melavia 10/11/2011 12:19:00 PM

I just started with this for about a week. After only one application, I noticed my nails look and feel harder. The top surface appears smoother. I am a life-long nail biter and my nails are in quite bad conditions. I like the light pink matte finish and i use it as a base coat. Although i think using it alone would almost give me a french manicure-like appearance. I will keep using it and see how effective it can be. But so far the experience has been quite positive. The bonus here is I bought it on sale for less than $5. Hopefully it wil help improve my nails. Update: After three months of irregular use, I still quite love it. I tried a few times using it alone and it gives a nice pink matte finish which almost look like a french manicure. But sometimes it can be streaky and hard to spread out evenly. Still, it treats my nails while giving it a nice color too. I also think a bottle will last me a long time. Definitely still loving it.

Polishes -Revlon - Plum Night
rated 3 of 5
Melavia 10/11/2011 11:59:00 AM

I bought this on sale. It is a dark, almost black deep purple color. Under natural daylight, it looks very close to eggplant or plum purple but it appears to be black indoors. The color is rich and shiny without any glitters. It is quite a nice color to wear during fall and winter. The duration is pretty good too. Update: I must have bought a bottle close to expiration or stored it improperly or something happened to the formula because after using it a handful of times, the formula becomes really sticky. When I put it on, it bubbles like no tomorrow no matter how many times I roll or shake it. I have not tried the thinner but the bubbling completely put me off. I threw it in the trash and downgrade this into a three. I love the color and I think I just had a bad luck with this bottle. I just bought another two in different shades and I will wait and see how they hold up.

Treatments (Eye) -Korres - Evening Primrose Eye Cream
rated 4 of 5
Melavia 4/25/2011 3:25:00 PM

I bought this after some research here in the forum. I was using the body shop elderflower eye gel for a few years now. As I become older, the gel does not work as effective as before. Although it is still quite hydrating and de-puffs rather well, it can no longer treat my evergrowing undereye dark circles and little fine lines. I have been using this prodcut for about a month. The texture is very creamy but feels light when applied. I do not have any irritated reaction to it at all(but then I hardly have any allergic action to any skin care products ever. When it comes to my face, my skin is extremely insensitive to all the ingredients most of the times). I followed the instruction and only applied it on the undereye areas all the way towards my temple. I have not realize any noticable difference for the fine lines but I can see my dark circles appear less in general. I can hardly smell anything which is something I would prefer. I cannot say a lot about hydration since I always add up a layer of my elderflower eye gel on top of this. Obviously it is very hydrating but I suspect it is not the work of this product alone. The tube is huge compare to other standard eye treatments and I have a feeling that it can last me a long time. Update 11/25/2011: I have been using this for a few months now. Since I finished my last jar of elderflower eye gel, I now apply Garnier anti-puffiness eyeroller before this. I still have no adverse reaction to this product. It keeps my dark circles at bay (maybe even decrease them a bit). But I did not notice much improvement for the very fine smiling lines. I also notice the puffiness has decreased though I am not sure if it is a combined results from both products. After all these months, I still have a lot left. It seems like the tube could last forever. Although, it is a bit pricy but it gives a total of 30ml instead of the usual 15ml.

Hair Color -Garnier - Nutrisse Permanent Creme Hair Color
rated 4 of 5
Melavia 4/25/2011 3:13:00 PM

I used the Roasted Coffee to cover up my roots from a previous dye. I have very dark brown to black natural hair color and used Belle Color to turn it into a medium golden reddish brown (which I love a lot). After some research here, I decided to purchase this product since it is said to be very nurishing for a hair color product. The Belle Color did a nice job to my hair but I noticed some dryness to the tips afterwards. With this product, it is very creamy and smells good too. The color turned out to be a little bit darker and less yellowish than the Belle Color. It hardly left my hair damaged at all. However, I feel the coverage is not as good as the other one and it fades quicker too. Although I worked pretty hard at my roots, some are still not covered completely and my greys are being left out a bit too. The color is more subtle than before and my hair is very soft. I would return to it if I want less damage and seek less dramatic look. The conditioner is loaded and very nourishing. 02/20/2012 Update: I used this product again last night. They seem to changed the packaging and name. The shade i used is 500 Soft Medium Brown. I have not colored my hair for over six months and it was in almost three shades with dark roots, medium brown middle and brassy yellowish tips. The formula is thinner than I remembered but still no dripping after i applied my whole head. one box is enough to cover my layered hair which reaches bra straps. The smell is much stronger and can be a bit overwhelming but it might just because i have not get near to this kind of product for quite some time. I left it on for about thirty minutes since my roots are very dark. I am quite happy with the end results. The color shows quite evenly. Now my hair is in one shade of medium brown(maybe a tiny bit darker than what shows on the box). It has a bit gold tint under indoor lights but nothing too dramatic. My hair does turn a bit drier after rinsing the dye out but the conditioner helps. Even my roots took the color quite nicely and I did not notice my tips to be much darker or anything. I just hope the color could stay longer. After two weeks the color stays well and I think my hair condition is actually better than before. I use the conditioner that comes with the box once a week. So far I love the end result and how it leaves my hair soft and shiny.

Treatments (Eye) -The Body Shop - Fragrance-Free Elderflower Eye Gel
rated 5 of 5
Melavia 3/7/2011 4:03:00 PM

I started using it when I was 16. This is a pretty good eye gel for starters as it is very light. It doesn't really have a strong smell so it never irritate my eyes. I use it mainly for prevention as it does a rather good job with puffiness. The moisture it provides is also not bad. I have not notice any difference in my ever increasing dark circles though. I plan to switch to a richer eye cream that treats dark circle and fine lines specifically as I find this to be too light for me now. I do think it will be a very good moisturize to apply on top of other richer eye creams as it seals moisture pretty well.

Skincare - Face -La Roche Posay - Thermal Spring Water
rated 5 of 5
Melavia 3/7/2011 3:57:00 PM

I tried thermal water from several brands including Vichy, Evian and this. This is my favorite out of all. I've already used several bottles already. During the past few years, I occasionally switch to other brands and eventually would come back to this. This is very soothing and calms my skin instantly. Unlike the one from Vichy, where the salt residuals would totally clog the sprinkler, this one runs all the way till the end.

Lip Treatments -Kiehls - Lip Balm #1
rated 5 of 5
Melavia 3/7/2011 3:52:00 PM

I've been using it for years and currently on my 4th or 5th tube. Absolutely love the moisture it gives me. I carry it with me in my bag everywhere. I use to apply it every night before I go to bed but my lips recovered now so I just use it whenever I need to. It can be runny under warm weather so application can become a bit messy. The tube design is better than a jar but sometimes when I squeeze it too hard, too much would come out. I find it to be pretty cost effective as one tube can go a long way. Although I know the main ingredient is petroleum, I prefer this one over Vaseline. I have both and I think vaseline is a better overnight treatment. But no matter how light i apply Vaseline, i always made it a mess. So this one is definitely my go to lip balm

Tinted Moisturizer -Shiseido - Tinted Moisture Protection SPF 20
rated 5 of 5
Melavia 3/7/2011 3:43:00 PM

I use it to replace foundations as I feel they are too heavy for me. I put it on top of my moisturizer and is quite satisfied with the coverage it provides. The SPF is not high, especially during the summer so I blend it with my Shiseido Extra Smooth Sunscreen and the problem is solved. Ever though I have oily to combination skin and do have breakouts as well, this does irritate my skin and it is quite light.

Mascara -Make Up For Ever - Aqua Smoky Lash - Extra Black
rated 4 of 5
Melavia 3/7/2011 3:33:00 PM

The curling and thickening effects are pretty good. But it does clumps a bit when I apply it. Overall, it is pretty good and it is waterproof too so that is a bonus.

Mascara -Lancome - Definicils Mascara
rated 5 of 5
Melavia 3/7/2011 3:31:00 PM

This is so far my favorite mascara. I've used Dior, Anna Sui, Maybellane and the others. This one really lengthens and curls my eye lushes without clumping them all together. The volumnizing effect is just right for me since I do not want thick lushes. Update: 11/30/11 Still my favorite mascara. I picked it up recently. I was actually thinking about picking up a drug store brand mascara to try out. Although I am sure there are some wonderful products there, after I put this on this morning, I totally abandoned the idea. It really gives me high definition that I hardly need a lash comb afterward at all.

Sunscreen -Shiseido - Extra Smooth Sun Protection Lotion SPF 33 PA++
rated 4 of 5
Melavia 3/7/2011 3:27:00 PM

It was recommanded by the Shiseido SA a few years ago. What I like about it is that it is super light but does it's job perfectly. It is almost liquid like and does not have the greesy feeling that other sunscreens usually carries. It does have the sunscreen smell to it but it is totally barable. I applied it over my face which has some blemishes but it did not make my breakout worse. Overall, it is one of the best sunscreens that I ever used.

Moisturizers -Murad - Skin Perfecting Lotion
rated 5 of 5
Melavia 3/7/2011 3:22:00 PM

I am on my 3rd or 4th tube now. This was recommanded by a Sephora SA a few years ago when my breakouts was at it worst. I was looking for a moisturizer that is rich enough without irritating my blemishes. I have to say the fact that I keep coming back to this product speaks for itself. I love the texture as it feels creamy but not greesy. It can be easily absorbed by my skin and gives me long lasting hydration. The tube packaging keeps it clean and makes application easier. Ever since I start using it, my skin improves significately. This is my HG moisturizer during the summer as it feels really light and smooth. During the winter time, I usually add up one more layer of another cream for protection since the winter here in Canada is really harsh.

Concealers -BeneFit Cosmetics - Boi-ing
rated 4 of 5
Melavia 3/7/2011 3:12:00 PM

I had this for a long time and I really like the old packaging which comes with the mirror. I mainly just use it to cover my under eye dark circles and some blemish marks so a little goes a long way. The coverage is pretty good for my blemishes but in terms of dark circles, the initial result seems pretty decent but after a few hours, it disappeared. Plus, I found the texture to be a bit greesy and oily. And because of this, I am kind of afraid to put too much over my blemish spots in fear of further breakouts. This is the first concealer that I ever used and from my experience, it was not bad. However, I do think that there are other products that suit me more.

Concealers -TheBalm - Time Balm
rated 4 of 5
Melavia 3/7/2011 3:03:00 PM

This was recommanded by a very friendly SA from Sephora. I was gonna get the makeup forever palatte but after she tried this on me, I decided to get it. The texture is nice, not too greesy or dry. I used to use Benefit's Boing and found it to be a bit too oily sometimes. Although it is quite light, the coverage is really nice. I got the fair/medium one and the color suits me nicely. At first I thought it might be too light but it blends in really well. The only thing that I do not like that much is the package, especially the tiny sponge that comes with it. I have no use of it as I use my finger tip and a brush to apply it. I always have a hard time trying to pick it out of the jar every time and it gets pretty annoying. Since I used to use the old version boing, that product is packed inside a sleek black case with a small mirror for application. Boing is not like that anymore, so aside from the sponge thing, everything is good. Update: Still using this and I use the sponge to blend after pat it on with my fingers. I realized the product might settle in my smile lines after a while although it is not too noticable. But still, it annoys me when i look at myself in the mirror a few hours after the application. Also, the color now seems a bit too dark and yellowish on me. I would like to think that is because my skin is lighter now. It still does a good job on my under eye dark circles but on my face, especially on my cheeks, I have to apply really lightly and blend a lot. Otherwise, it will look yellowish on me. This is more of a color match problem than a problem with the product itself though.
