I prob. wouldn't wear this myself, but one of my coworkers wears it a lot and I am always asking her what it is, and this is what she says it is -- but I find it hard to believe! I've smelled it in the bottle but on her it's a totally different scent. It smells GREAT in her, like a fig fragrance... L'artisan Premier Figuer or Diptyque Philosykos. Creamy, figgy etc. Maybe it's the melon, somehow? It has none of the same notes, but it smells figgy on her! Why? I don't know! Must be her chemistry. Go Fig-ure! :-)

OK, I'm wondering what is the story with body chemistry and perfume... I tried POTL one evening and LOVED it, my DH loved it too! He said "black cherries", and it stayed black cherries for several hours. I was really enjoying it. I woke up the next day and reapplied. NO CHERRIES. just a pasty, playdoh smell. Not yummy at all, bland blech. I thought, maybe it's just my perception, I'm in a different mood or someting, so I asked DH. Nope, he didn't like it. I said, "But it's the same one I had on yesterday" He said "No it isn't!" I said "Yes, really -- its the same one." He said "No cherries???" I'm curious, how can the same perfume smell so different from one day to the next on the same person? Am I a weirdo? What gives? Does anyone understand this that could explain it to me? :-) TIA. UPDATE: while I can't seem to find the cherries anymore, I do want to note that the drydown has a nice incensey thing going on that I like. It has grown on me as a comforting scent. Love to layer it with Tam Dao.

TOOOO SWEEEET.... No, no, no, I find it too sweet. And fake. Did I mention it was sweet? It's not a gardenia scent at all to me. Gardenias smell fresh, creamy and spicy at the same time. This just smells like bubblegum or something. It's like a fake candle scent. Or like snorting a package of powdered Kool-Aide. Time to wash it off.

Man, I wish this smelled like gardenia, nag champa, coconut or anything but what it does smell like on me: a wimpy fake-lilly- of-the-valley-baby-powderey-mess. No creamy, no soft, no suntan lotion, no tropical, no gardenia, just yuck. Bummer. Oh well, on to the next.

Loose Powders -Revlon - Skinlights Face Illuminator [DISCONTINUED]

OK, I will admit that I use this, and very effective it is, I might add. I am very fair and wear the "natural light" shade. It seems cheesy to wear glitter, I know, but this is what I do with it: dip the brush gently in the powder, then blow almost every trace of the powder off the brush, cause it's WAY too much to use. When the brush looks empty just put a sweep underneath each eye to cancel out the dark circles, That's it! Once I have dipped the brush I won't have to dip it again for about 10 applications. A little goes a long, LONG way. You don't want to look like a disco queen, just more refreshed and awake and "soft focus lens". Lots of comliments when I wear this product.

Fragrances -L'Artisan Fragrances - Passage d-Enfer

Man, I've gotta stop smelling these things, now I want to buy this one too! Yet another L'Artisan that I love and could wear all the time! Yes, I was raised Catholic... but who cares if I smell like church if it smells so GOOD! Frankincense and Myrrh, dry subtle and serious, a little bit smoky. Natural, mysterious and lovely. I'm starting to see that in general, I like spicy and incensey scents, (or florals), so for me, this one is great. BTW, I think they need to change the name. This is NOT a passage through hell... (Now "Bandit" on the other hand... THAT's a passage through hell!) Maybe it refers to Rimbaud's, "Une Saison en Enfer"?

Eau d'cat excrement. Fecal, burnt, foul, bitter, fetid, rotting, are you getting the idea? I don't like it. I think the castoreum is a particularly nasty bitter smell. Civet is not for me either. My husband did like it, but too bad! I don't want to smell like the cat's litter box. How could the same person who made this have made the wonderful Fracas? Weird.

I am adoring this! Like with the L'Artisan, I love that fig note. I've never tried a fig. Who knew figs smelled so good? Wow it smells so yummy. I need this AND Premier Figuier Extreme. Why both? It's hard to explain. I wore Philosykos to church on Christmas Eve and I kept thinking, "What is that beautiful incense they are using? Maybe nag champa"? But no, it was my wrist! I kept thinking "Damn I smell good!" ;-) It was very distracting. Sad, but true. My life it ruled by scent! :-)

Fragrances -Parfums De Nicolai - Eau D ete
Kate123 12/29/2003 10:14:00 AM
I have to laugh as I read the reviews, some have described this as "clean", "like my grandmother's house" and "like a dentist's office" -- Not to me! To me, this is SEXY. I mean it! ;-) It just shows how we perceive fragrances so differently and they are also so different on each person's skin. This smells like summer to me, warm, sensual, fresh, waking up in the arms of someone I love. Like the cool air that comes in the window in the morning across your naked body, and it feels so good. You know it will be hot later, but right now it's blissfully cool. But you know it can't last...This smells DIVINE. However, I am only giving it 4 lippies b/c it vanishes almost as soon as I put it on. Either it evaporates, or I smell it so much that I vacume up all the scent molecules b/c I keep smelling this and smelling this. LOL. If I were a cat, this would be my catnip! Meow! UPDATE: Ordered a bottle from Aedes and sprayed it on liberally, it stayed all day!!!!! I am thrilled. I am upping it to 5 lippies. This is my ideal summer scent, and in sub-zero temps right now, it's pretty appealling to have "scent of summer" too! :-) One more thing I want to add, this perfume helped me to understand what "well balanced" means in a scent. Not just that the notes blend well, but that each note is in balance with the others in a way that compiments them all. Jasmine is the key to this scent for me. In some perfumes, jasmine takes on a bright, harsh quality. With this scent, the uplifting citrus opening negates and possibility of that. As the jasmine emerges, in contrast to the citrus, it seems so ethereal, so tender, so soft and lovely, it's intoxicating. I can now see why jasmine is considered an aphrodisiac. This jasmine is like the scent of a real living, breathing flower, not a perfume. As it drys down it blends with my skin so perfectly that I feel like my own scent is perfumed. The hint of cinnamon warms it slighly to the best possible "skin scent". I feel so sexy in this. I love it.

Yummy! Sooooooo delicious! I adore sandalwood and this is exactly what I have been looking for. What a fabulous scent! So creamy, dreamy and rich. The drydown is melting into my skin in the most beautiful way. I def. smell nag champa under the sandalwood, what an incredible combination, smooth and warm. I am so loving it. Lasts a few hours, so I have to reapply -- but it's very worth it. This is my ideal winter scent, makes me feel relaxed, calm and secure. Just the way I've always wanted to smell! :-) UPDATE: if at all possible, I crave this more and more... Love to wear it to bed. very cozy. Try it with a tiny dab of hypnotic poison or POTL underneath. WOW>. Another good combo is Tam Dao with a spritz of Passage d'Enfer, (another fav. of mine.) UPDATE: I'm quickly coming to the end of my first bottle of this. This will be the first perfume I have used up and am now buying another bottle. This is the most "me" of all the perfumes I own. Can't imagine not having this in my collection, ever.

Insipid. Watery and bland, lasts about 1 hour. Can't see the point. UPDATE: I sprayed this on in a store on a whim, it smelled totally different that the sample I originally tried. It is much better! I liked it a lot. I never really believed the whole "sprayed is different than dabbed" thing before, but now I do. This is a nice floral. :-)

Yum, now this is a "foody" scent I could really love! Who doesn't love lemons? It's a true, juicy, ripe, sweet lemon scent... like a lemon you just sliced in half and it squirted at you! Also has a zesty zing of lemon peel. Wouldn't it be lovely to smell like this all summer? I don't smell the cedar in this, just lemons. BUT, and this is a big but, I cannot justify spending any money on this b/c it is gone as soon as I put it on, within minutes! Totally gone. It's like putting lemon juice on your wrist and calling it perfume! Such a shame! I wish there were a way to make it last, but it's too expensive to put on every two minutes all day! Ha. For those who find this scent lasts, you are so lucky! If anyone finds a way to make this last let me know. Maybe adding it to unscented body lotion? A thought. It is a great smell!

I find this fascinating. I keep trying to figure it out. I knew someone who wore this scent in my childhood, (or a scent very similar) but who? I keep smelling it and smelling it. It's right on the edge of my brain... oh well. Anyway, the opening is a powerful slightly bitter, bracing, masculine, sharp citrus scent -- and does anyone else smell a cedar note under the neroli? I like it, but it's a little intense. It quickly dries down and becomes more feminine and floral, more sweetly orange blossom. For a few minutes it's divine! Then it fades. Overall, it's unique and refreshing and invigorating. Something to put on when you get out of the shower on a hot sticky summer day, to wake up and keep a clean fresh feeling. BUT it doesn't last on me, or if it does, it's so faint it's hardly worth it. Ah well, on to the next scent.
