Liquid -Revlon - Age Defying Light Makeup with Botafirm SPF30 [DISCONTINUED]

This is a product I keep going back to. I am always looking for something better, so will always be experimenting with new products. So far, this is the best moisture tint/foundation I have found, especially for the price. This may sound weird, but I use this as a base/primer for my mineral makeup. I adore Everyday Minerals, but sometimes find my 40+ year old skin needs a bit more moisture and coverage. I put on a thin layer of Revlon Age Defying, let it soak in a few minutes, then finish with mineral foundation and finishing dust. It really works well for my skin. The SPF is an added bonus, and the squeeze tube is the best. Will continue to buy this again and again.

Makeup Brushes -Aromaleigh - Silky Smooth Taklon Kabuki Brush [DISCONTINUED]
rated 3 of 5

I purchased this brush based on other MUA reviewer's recommendations, but was somewhat disappointed. Yes, it is silky soft, dense, and feels great on the skin. However, as a previous reviewer pointed out, the surface area is not that big, making it difficult to adequately spread the minerals over the entire face. I've gone back to my BE kabuki, which is not as soft as this one, but covers 100% better.

Moisturizers -Olay - Definity Deep Penetrating Foaming Moisturizer
rated 2 of 5

I usually like Olay products, not this one. Maybe it's me, but I do not like foam on my face. It does not absorb easily into the skin and it feels somewhat tacky/sticky. I have not been able to use it long enough to see if it has any benefit since I do not like the texture. Maybe a cream or lotion would be better.

Makeup Brushes -Bare Escentuals - Kabuki Brush
rated 5 of 5

Yes, the BE Kabuki is somewhat coarse and scratchy, and if you have sensitive skin, it might even be uncomfortable to use. I bought an Aromaleigh and EM kabuki which are much softer. For the coverage I prefer, I like the harder, more dense kabuki to spread the minerals and disperse them evenly, which is why I think the BE kabuki is superior. The soft brushes don't seem to buff the m/u as easily into the skin. Mine has never shed, at least not compared to the EM brush which sheds horribly. Seems like it is individual preference. Some people prefer the soft brushes, I like a harder brush. I still give the BE kabuki high ratings! Update: January 2008 - Sometimes I wonder if I received a different BE Kabuki than other reviewers. I have had my brush for over 1 year now and it remains my FAVORITE brush. It is rougher than other Kabukis I have purchased, but I have yet to find a brush that covers as well as this one. I love the new EM long handled Kabuki and their flat top brush, yet I cannot get the even coverage that I get with my BE Kabuki. The softer brushes don't come close to this one - I am debating over whether to buy another one or not. I received it in the Starter Kit, and don't really want to buy another for full price ($28) - I hope this one continues to last.

Hair Color -Clairol - Natural Instincts Hair Color
rated 5 of 5

I read lots of positive reviews about Natural Instincts. Since it's semi-permanent, I felt it would be low risk. I selected the closest color to my current shade which is "Pecan" (medium golden brown) according to the picture on the box. Even though my natural hair color is identical to the shade on the box, what I ended up with was a very dark brown, almost black, with no "golden" whatsoever. I was startled by the color at first because I have never had such a dark hair color, but people actually commented on how much they liked it. It faded over time, so I was relieved that I had used semi-permanent color. The next shade I tried was "Toasted Almond" (light golden brown). Interesting that the picture on the box is darker than "Pecan" even though it is a lighter shade. This came out more to my liking, although a tad on the dark side. After that color faded, I went to "Amber Shimmer" (lightest golden brown) and the result was perfect!!! I never would have started with this shade since it looks more blond than brown to me in the picture. Sometimes I use 1/2 Amber Shimmer with 1/2 Toasted Almond to go a tad darker. The lighter shades do tend to bring out the reds in my hair, so this is a consideration when you go lighter. This hair color is extremely gentle and leaves my hair in great condition. I love the conditioner which turned my hair to silk. I wish the color lastest a bit longer, but cannot complain for $6-7/box. Love how natural the color looks. My only advice is to NOT use the picture on the box as a color guide. The color you get looks nothing like the picture. Start lighter than you think you need to, and go darker, if necessary, until you get the perfect shade. Great product!!!

Bronzers -Bare Escentuals - Faux Tan all-over face color
rated 5 of 5
FastKitty99 8/20/2007 11:53:00 PM

I never expected to like this product. I got it in a BE kit and was disappointed at first when I first saw it because faux tan products usually don't look good on my fair porcelain skin. I do not care for the BE "warmth" product because it looks orange after you apply it. However, faux tan all-over face color actually looked great on my skin! I shake the teeniest amount of product into the lid, swirl-tap-buff it onto my cheeks and bridge of nose - it gives a great glow! I highly recommend...just don't use too much...

Powder -Bare Escentuals - bare Minerals Foundation #2/#3 & Mineral Veil
rated 3 of 5
FastKitty99 8/20/2007 11:36:00 PM

I started out really liking BE minerals, although I have never found a good color match. The yellow undertones don't look good with my complexion, but I used the mineral veil afterwards which toned it down a bit, so I was able to live with it. Once I started experimenting with the other mineral make-ups (Aromaleigh, Everyday Minerals), I realized there were much better products out there with better color selections. I never had problems with BE breaking out my skin like others have mentioned, but I just feel that this product is over-priced and over-hyped. For these reasons, I do not plan to re-purchase BE when it runs out.
