Eye Primer -Too Faced - Shadow Insurance, Anti-Crease Eye Shadow Primer
melissap1 3/17/2008 2:08:00 PM
I have used UDPP for a while, and I have never liked it. It is powdery, flaky and dulls my eyeshadow colors. But it was the only thing out there that really worked to give shadows staying power. I had also tried the Beauticontrol primer in natural which was about the same. A couple of weeks ago I went to Sephora and asked the SA if there was a primer that was less heavy, lighter and kind of clear. All the SA's there were so enthusiastic about the Too Faced Shadow Insurance that I had to buy it. Of course they were out of it, so I ordered from Beauty.com. It is exactly what I wanted and needed. First of all, the packaging is greatly superior to UDPP. I'll bet it lasts twice as long for that factor alone. It goes on clear, and may be a little more moist than UDPP, but I have dry eyelids. It enhances the color of your eyeshadows rather than dulling them. It doesn't flake or get powdery at all and just feels like your actual skin, except eyeshadows last forever on them. My favorite thing is that it makes your shadow colors more intense and brings out the colors. Finally I found my HG primer. We spend too much money on nice eyeshadows to have them flake, disappear, smudge or travel. Highly recommended!

Eye Shadow -Givenchy - Prisme Again! Eye Shadow Quartet-Brown Caress
melissap1 3/14/2008 1:31:00 PM
I agree with the last reviewer on this item. It looks absolutely beautiful in the package. The colors are lovely and look rich and dreamy. However, after I purchased the item I was disappointed. The coral is ridiculous as an eyeshadow. Made me look like a clown. I tried it as a blush a few times, but that was just comical. The chocolate brown color came up looking a little purply, dreary and sad looking on me. It had average staying power, nothing special. The taupe was kind of uselss on me as you could not tell it was there. Blended into my skin tone exactly. The peachy/goldish color is just too weird to match to anything. Made my lids look heavy and garish. I think I would like to purchase these colors to paint and decorate my living room, but definitely not my eyes!

Eyeliner -Smashbox - Off Set Shadow Converter
melissap1 3/7/2008 10:40:00 AM
I don't know who the marketing genius at Smashbox was who decided to discontinue this product, but it is miraculous. Instantly increases your eyeliner stock to include every eyeshadow in your collection! This has great staying power on my eyes and stays intact all day and night. I wouldn't rub it, though, I think it would smudge. It does have one small problem. It kind of destroys your shadow after a while. It hardens it and makes it unusable for anything but using it as an eyeliner with this product, but that's okay with me. I have deep set eyes, so I just use a line of color along my upper lashline anyway. But this is a superb product. If you can take some shadow, nick a bit off and put it on a surface, then open this converter and dip your brush in it, then mix it with the shadow, you will save your shadow. I'm loving this, and have gotten two bottles so I won't run out any time soon.

Eye Shadow -Bobbi Brown - Eye Shadow - Grey 6
melissap1 2/25/2008 2:05:00 PM
This is my favorite Bobbi Brown eye color. I never thought I would wear grey, but even with my warm skin tone this adds just the right amount of dimension to my eye. It seems to go with everything. I use it as a crease color for daytime and I feel it makes my eyes look professional, mature and healthy. I have deep set eyes, so I use a light, semi-frosty shade on my lids and a matte shade like bone under my brows. With a charcoal liner it looks good. Who would have thought neutrals could make your eyes pop so much. Now people don't compliement me on my eye shadow, they compliment me on my eyes. A nice change.

Eye Shadow -Prescriptives - ColorScope Eye Color in Sable
melissap1 2/25/2008 1:07:00 PM
I have always loved this color since I first discovered it. I have a warm complexion, and this falls in the Prescriptives Y/O category. The name Sable might make you think of brown, but this is actually kind of a plum. Most plum colors make me look like someone punched me in the eye, and this is the only plum I've found that makes my eyes look bright and healthy. This is the perfect plum for warm-toned skin. The staying power is outstanding and you can layer it for more intensity. Two thumbs up for Prescriptives Sable Shadow.

Masks -Freeman - Facial Enzyme Mask Pineapple
melissap1 2/5/2008 1:07:00 PM
This was a surprise find at Wal-Mart of all places, and I've also purchased it at Ulta. I have used other products with fruit enzymes and really liked them, so I thought I'd try this. The price is wonderful. It exfoliates lightly and gently leaving you with silky, smooth, fresh skin that glows and it only takes 10 minutes. It makes my skin feel like I just had a facial. It is great for skin that is combination and sensitive. I don't like the clays because they are too drying, and the moisturizing masks don't really exfoliate. If you want a gentle, exfoliating, great-smelling mask with natural ingredients that makes your face look radiant and new, try this. It's an HG item for me.

Liquid -The Body Shop - Oil-Free foundation
melissap1 2/1/2008 4:04:00 PM
Okay, so the clerk at the Body Shop gave me a sample of this foundation and I tried it today. I have pretty oily skin and this is initially mattifying. However, as I went throughout the day this has turned out to be the worst foundation I've ever used, hands down. It's almost comical how terrible it is. I have tried most drug store and many high end foundations in my 25 years of foundation wearing and this is like putting pastel chalk on your face and watching the patches and creases move like shifting sands. I can't wait to wash it off! It is blotchy, uneven, and the oil on my facing is showing already. Stay away!

Makeup Brushes -Smashbox - Powder #1
melissap1 1/31/2008 1:18:00 PM
Powder brushes don't get much better than this. I have tried many brands of brushes and this is my favorite powder brush, in fact, Smashbox brushes are my favorite overall. I recently purchased their Beyond Beauty brush set, which is six lucite brushes with white bristles. They are heaven! I am getting ready to buy another backup set. I highly recommend Smashbox brushes overall. Very high quality, long-lasting and made for high end makeup.

Makeup Brushes -Smashbox - Foundation Brush
melissap1 1/31/2008 1:09:00 PM
This is a beautiful looking and feeling brush. It feels like silk and blends foundation wonderfully. I spray a little toner on the brush before using it to apply foundation and that seems to make everything blend and not get too thick. The toner sort of emulsifies the foundation and makes it look like real skin. The brush is fabulous and the best foundation brush I've tried.

Blush -Bobbi Brown - Ski Slopes
melissap1 1/31/2008 1:06:00 PM
I would have never picked this blush out for myself. I tend to like neutral blushes that kind of blend into the background. But the assistant at the Bobbi Brown counter introduced me to this and it made my face just come alive! I still use a more neutral blush for contouring and focus the Ski Slopes on the apples of my cheeks. Now I have a healthy glow and people are telling me how good I look.

Eye Shadow -Bobbi Brown - Cream Eye Shadow Sand Castle
melissap1 1/31/2008 1:04:00 PM
This is a beautiful, neutral color that would work well with almost any skin tone. It is a medium brownish, greyish, taupish color with a very faint shimmer. It blends right in with my skin tone. I use it on my lids and in the crease and then put Bobbi Brown Creme Eyeshadow in Bone near the brow as a highlighter. You can put a pop of the ivory in the very center of your lid to add some dimension. These are very good quality, blend well and stay on forever, even without a primer. This is a must have for me.

Cleansers -Caudalie - Cleansing Water
melissap1 1/18/2008 5:53:00 PM
I have very sensitive eyes, and most eye makeup removers irritate them badly and leave them red, even the next day. I have tried many different "health food" brands and they do not remove makeup any more than water. A Sephora associate introduced me to Caudalie Cleansing Water and I gave it a good test in the store. I put some waterproof mascara and eyeliner on the back of my hand and let it dry. Then I used the Caudalie CW and it seemed so light I had my doubts. However, it dissolved the makeup amazingly. My eyes are not irritated, it removes my eye makeup better than any other product I've ever tried, and I won't be without it.
