Styling Products -Paul Mitchell - Extra-Body Finishing Spray
rated 2 of 5

I used this hairspray for months and even got my husband using it (it was the first hairspray that he ever purposely told me he liked!). However, they must have changed the formula because there is no where near the hold it used to provide. Even my Hubby is upset that his hair is flyaway after just a few short hours. I sadly returned my bulk purchase and am on the hunt for a new HG.

Loose Powders -Prescriptives - Magic Liquid Powder
rated 2 of 5

I'm generally a Prescriptives fan, but this product was a toughie. The "wet" feel is cool, but difficult to apply. You either get nothing or too much on the brush. [ASIDE: I did a side-by-side test in the store between Magic powder and lotion, but the lotion was too irridescent for me. The powder seemed more subtle.] I agree that the powder gave my already-pale skin a strange whitish tint. I'm pale enough for heaven's sake! The worst part is that I started breaking out on my chin after about a week of use. After a few days of non-use, my skin is feeling better, so I'm afraid this nocomedogenic powder gave me pimples. Too bad on this one.

Styling Products -Alberto Vo5 - Red Styling Mousse - Curvaceous Curls
rated 4 of 5
macompanick 7/18/2006 9:59:00 PM

To clarify, the package is red, not the mousse itself. I'm on my third can, so I guess I really like it! The can is a bit on the chubby side, which can be difficult for travel, but for a dirt cheap product that works, I'm willing to forego that technicality. The sent is mild and the mousse works well by itself or in conjunction with other styling products. A staple styling product at a price that can't be beat!

Concealers -Prescriptives - Flawless Skin Total Protection Concealer
rated 5 of 5
macompanick 7/18/2006 9:53:00 PM

I've been using Flawless concealer (level 2) for about a week and a half. I adore the SPF 25 (being fair and blond and all) and the coverage is super. No caking halfway through the day, no emphasis on dry spots (the way BE Bisque did). Overall, I'm most pleased! Px Traceless used to be my HG, but this provides more coverage (I apply with my ring finger under my eyes, not to cover my occasional blemishes. I'm not convinced any product or any application technique will do that). The price is a bit steep, but a high quality product (particularly with a high SPF) is worth it! A little goes a long way, so I hope to have this delightful silver compact for months and months. Another winner from Prescriptives!

Styling Products -Sebastian - Potion 9
rated 2 of 5
macompanick 7/18/2006 9:47:00 PM

I used Potion 9 years ago and couldn't remember why I stopped, so I recently tried it again, based on other positive reviews from curly-haired gals. Now I remember! This lovely-smelling cream made my hair stringy and crunchy. Totally anti-curl!! I returned it 2 days after I bought it.

Concealers -Bare Escentuals - Bisque
rated 3 of 5
macompanick 7/10/2006 8:50:00 PM

I bought the Bisque and Maximum Coverage Concealer Brush set from QVC. Bisque is okay, but the coverage is too light. And I don't consider myself to have dark circles! However, the unsung hero of the duo is the brush - I just started using it w/Prescriptives Flawless concealer and it's bee-yoo-tee-ful!

Loose Powders -Bare Escentuals - Mineral Veil
rated 2 of 5
macompanick 7/10/2006 8:47:00 PM

I finished a pot I received for Christmas, but would not purchase this again - at least not in the summer anyway. I'm so shiny mid-day that I might as well use nothing at all in the morning. I really did like BE there for a while, but maybe it's just a winter thing.

Powder -Bare Escentuals - Bare Minerals in 1.2, fairly light
rated 3 of 5
macompanick 7/10/2006 8:44:00 PM

I finished the pot I got in my Trial Kit from Ulta and then I purchased a full size, but I decided that it's too much work to buff, buff, buff the minerals into my skin to get the coverage I want.

Pressed Powders -L'Oreal - True Match Super-Blendable Powder
rated 5 of 5
macompanick 7/10/2006 8:40:00 PM

This is my HG pressed powder. Try as I might to find something better in a more upscale brand, I haven't been able to do it. I use N1 over my foundation (applied with the Bare Escentuals Flawless Application brush) and it sets it all day without caking, showing dry spots, breaking me out, or most importantly, leaving me shiny mid-day. I'm puzzled by the other negative reviews, but I'm a fish who tends to swim against the stream. 9:o

Liquid -Revlon - ColorStay Active Light Makeup SPF 25 ] [DISCONTINUED]
rated 2 of 5
macompanick 7/10/2006 8:34:00 PM

I bought this in Buff (second lightest color) and while I liked the color and the staying power, it made me break out in about 2 days, so I returned it to CVS. I think you have to scrub really hard to get this foundation off a night, and my 32-year-old skin just can't take it!

Liquid -Prescriptives - Virtual Skin
rated 4 of 5
macompanick 7/10/2006 8:24:00 PM

I've been using this for about a week and am very happy with the results. I'm color Real Rose and although I've been fighting my rosy undertones my whole make-up life, I'm pleased with the coverage and with the color match. I had used Revlon Color Stay Light right before this and it made me break out in a matter of 2 days (despite the oil-free claim). I think it was so long lasting that I wasn't getting it all off my face at night. Virtual Skin gives a natural finish - I tend to have a heavy hand, so I like that it's buildable. I apply w/Prescriptives foundation brush and my skin looks great all day - and very little mid-day shine, which is a huge plus for me (I do use L'Oreal True Match powder in N1 to set in the a.m.)! I can make it through the entire work day without a mid-day powder touch up. And it's summer in NJ! If I can stay with this foundation for a few more weeks, I'll bump it up to 5 lippies. The packaging is a bit clunky, but it's what's inside that counts!

Mascara -Vincent Longo - Volume Riche Mascara
rated 5 of 5
macompanick 6/14/2006 5:14:00 PM

Quality-wise, this is the best mascara I've tried. I've been searching for a HG for years and I daresay this is it! My eyes are sensitive and this has caused no irritation; it lasts all day without clumping/running/flaking; most importantly - it gives the best volume ever. One coat gives me "oomph" (more than two coats of any other mascara I've tried - from CG to Lancome). Two coats gives me the totally vampy lashes I like so well. The tube is a bit small and a lot of product tends to come out on the brush, so I feel like I might be wasting it, but I'll pay any price for a fantastic product. This is IT!
